Catalonia Grand Costa Mujeres: Amazing resort!

The resort is beautiful! It’s fairly new hotel and room was very nice. We had an amazing time. Service is very good, staff is super friendly. Food was also very good. Lots of selection and multiple restaurants to choose from. Beach was also beautiful!

Catalonia Yucatan: Great resort

I was pleasantly surprised , very clean , stuff was very friendly and fun , specially the entertainment stuff Emilio and Dalmy who were involved in yoga , aqua gym and shows Breakfast buffet was amazing and the location was great near a very cute town with restaurants and shops right by dolphin yacht club , very safe Really enjoyed the stay

Catalonia Royal Tulum: Pretty, Unique Adults Only Property

The arrival transfer: this was the biggest letdown. They had a van that seated 8 people plus the driver, and they put 8 people plus the driver in it. They originally tried to put my partner and I upfront and I was too tall to fit without my legs being smushed against the gear shift and dashboard. Eventually another couple with a shorter woman offered to sit up front, and afterwards even she said that it was tight for her. She was about 5'2". Anyways, we got there in one piece. We had a direc [... read more]t transfer from the airport to our hotel, which was nice. It took about an hour and 10 minutes from the airport. I informed the Transat rep the next day, as it was definitely a safety concern. Our transfer back had no issues fitting everyone in, though it was still full. On the resort: A very beautiful and unique small property! The checkin was friendly and efficient, our room was ready when we arrived around 2pm. Originally they offered us a room on the ground floor, but we prefer an upper floor room and they were able to accommodate us. We were offered the Privilege upgrade at checkin for 30 USD (per person per night) for a minimum of three nights and we chose not to take it. The only nice thing about it would have been access to 24 hour food for us to make it worthwhile. We were in room 2205, a Premium room, which was nicely appointed. The amenities in the room included a mini fridge (water, soda and beer), snacks (chips, oreos and nuts), toiletries, as well as refillable shampoo and body wash. The bed was nice and comfy. Showers were nice with lots of hot water, and there was a rainfall shower head and a handheld shower head, both with separate taps. The towels, hand towels, and face cloths provided were in good condition and nice and fluffy. They will only change the towels and sheets if you indicate you'd like them changed, which saves on energy and water waste. Our beach towel was in the room on arrival. There is no towel exchange by the beach, you will have to have the towel exchanged at the end of the day for a fresh one as the cart comes by your room (assuming you are, indeed, in your room when they come around offering to exchange towels). The stone pathway from the lobby to the beach area is a little uneven and there are no elevators in the room blocks, which could make it a difficult resort for those with mobility issues (or if you've had one too may cocktails or even if you're just wearing flip-flops). The pool is on the smaller side, and finding consistent shade throughout the day can be a bit of a chore. Some of the umbrellas needed to be replaced. There's no umbrellas or palapas on the beach, only palms. There's better shade everywhere in the afternoon. We are not sun-tanners and found that we had to move around rather frequently to avoid being in full sun. The pool can be quite loud during they day (music, entertainment, other guests). There's lot of daytime activities to participate in. The beach is absolutely beautiful, soft white sand and gorgeous clear water. We did not have any issues with seaweed while we were there. There does seem to be more smoking than I expected on a resort in a country where smoking in public areas is now prohibited. People also smoked on their balconies, which was a shame. The clientele was largely European, though there were a fair number of Americans and fellow Canadians as well. The entertainment staff spoke in Spanish, Italian and English during the daytime games/activities and during the evening entertainment. The buffet is small, but has a lot of variety. We had no issues ever finding anything to eat, but during peak times (ie. breakfast) you would sometimes have to wait for a table. The buffet is open for breakfast and lunch only, except Saturdays for the Mexican buffet evening. The a la cartes are by reservation online (you're given access to the website on check-in). The Terrace was the most popular due to the ambiance. The vegetarian meatballs there were very tasty! Portions at the a la cartes are small, especially at the Italian. The Mexican was interesting, more of an 'elevated" style of Mexican with unique taste combinations. The food in the a la cartes were good. Rauxa has a dinner and circus show, but we did not eat there. We also didn't try the grill, as we were only there 5 nights. The BLoved is exclusive to Privilege guests and it's the only 24 hour restaurant. If people like larger meals/a snack before bed it might be prudent to book an early seating at one restaurant and a late seating at the tapas or even Rauxa. There is early entertainment in the lobby at 7:30 pm. We found that it was limited and only for an hour or so, and it was a lot of musicians who sort of walk from table to table to play requests. There was one gentleman who set up on the little stage and actually played music, he was a big hit. The evening shows (that we saw) were good but they don't start until 9:45pm and there's no actual stage, so it could be hard to see sometimes. The Mexican night had fun games and a mechanical bull. There was karaoke one night as well. This is not a party resort by any means, but the pool bar (not the swim up) is open until 2am and the entertainment staff work really hard to make sure everyone is having a fun time. There are lots of animals onsite. Highly suggest that you do not keep snacks in your bags while you're at the pool, as the coatis will steal whole bags and run off. People were unfortunately feeding the animals, which encourages this behaviour. If you don't want the animals in your bags while you're at the pool, keep the snacks in your rooms. Also ensure that your room sliding door is closed and locked. We opened a bag of nuts while the screen door was open, and we looked out and had a small flock of birds and a coati ready to join us for a snack. Some people complained that coatis had entered their rooms. If you have an early morning transfer, lights in the hallways and stairwells are still off, making it difficult to see which could be dangerous. No food was open before 7am, but there was coffee and croissants in the lobby. All the staff that we interacted with were amazing! They have really great people working here, from the front desk, the bar tenders, the waiters, and the entertainment staff. 10/10 for the staff. :) All in all, we enjoyed our stay and would consider returning. We've never returned to the same hotel twice, so that's saying something. :) We booked one excursion through the Transat Rep. We had booked a full day Tulum/Coba combo tour, but on the day of we were unable to travel to Tulum due to a road closure for the forthcoming "Mayan Train" (they say it will be open "soon" lol). We went to see Muyil instead which was actually more interesting as they are still in the process of doing excavations. We only had 45 minutes at Coba by the time we got through the entrance, making renting a bike or cycle taxi necessary to see the large site...it's not super expensive (5 dollars for a bike, 7 dollars for a cycle taxi). The food at the included Mayan Village was not great at all (I've been on maybe 4 similar excursions in the Mayan Riviera and this was by far the worst) and the cenote was underwhelming. It looked like it was a newer establishment, and they gave us an hour and a half (!!) there which seemed like way too much time. We would have preferred an extra half hour at Coba. The tourist tax: we did pay it at the airport while leaving and saw that some folks had paid it before arriving. However: no one asked to see proof of it, and my understanding is that it's not enforced at all. I'm sure lots of people didn't bother paying, but this may be changing in the future.

Catalonia Riviera Maya: Decent accomodation, lovely old-style resort

While we still enjoyed our enjoyed our time here, and the room was clean, and fresh, we were disappointed in the location of our Privilege room, due to the path beside had alot of traffic from the staff rolling carts in the wee hours waking us up at 5am. The theater entertainment was NOK. There is not much beach area to speak of. Pools were too cold. Food was great where ever we ate. Distance from the airport was a bit further than expected, and transport was brutal. You can walk to the  [... read more]shops and a marina, which was nice.

Catalonia Royal Bavaro: Catalonia Royal Bavaro is indeed an amazing resort to stay at.

Hi Victoria, Thanks again for helping me to book my vacation in Punta Cana. I had just a few things that was of concern, which was ( the shower water in my room was cold, the internet was weak and beach keep collecting moss). The staff is great, the atmosphere is great and the food is great as well. Apart from the few negatives, I had a good time and will go back next year. Patrick

Catalonia Riviera Maya: Solid Mexican experience

Beach-Snorkeling in the bay was great. Beach was good although the entrance to the water is rocky but that is happening all down the coast with the erosion of the beaches. Food -was pretty good at the buffet, the bloved restaurant was very good (only available for privileged guests). Steak house was great. We didn't try the other a la cartes due to reviews. Entertainment- staff is amazing and the evening shows are quite good. maybe not for everyone, but we liked them. Rooms- traditional and [... read more] comfortable. Nothing fancy but Im coming to mexico and expect the workmanship to be a little rough. Gym - decent with enough machines for the size of the resort. Water sports - not a lot to offer here. Some kayaks but you can't really go anywhere too interesting. You can explore the inside bay, which is fun enough for an hour.Beach volley ball and other games were great and well organized by the staff. You wont be bored if you want to participate in the arranged activities.

Catalonia Riviera Maya: Very nice place!

Grounds are wonderful, staff very friendly, food excellent, SPA - super, entertainment amazing. But - access to the water - not very easy. Would highly recommend having water shoes. Beach is not very big, but it was enough for us. Pools are very nice too. Also -rooms could be better decorated,, they seem plain. We have been in this resort twice, both times with the privileged packages and we wish we understand why we were not placed in the villas clearly marked " privileged" .....

Catalonia Riviera Maya: Great resort!

Second time at Cstalonia. Great food, veriaty of restaurants, food tracks and bars. Small beach but grounds are amazing. Located within secluded residential complex with stores and more bars and restaurants. Also in the center of this complex you can swim , play or watch dolphins.the resort staff is great.

Catalonia Royal La Romana: Great resort - terrible entertainment.

Everything at this resort was perfect or near perfect - beaches, rooms, pools, food, restaurant selection, etc.....except the nightly entertainment which was simply terrible! For starters, you could not trust the advertised programming on the resort app, both for times and activity. For example, our first night was supposed to have karaoke but there was simply someone singing, which was most nights. The entertainers were not loud and the tempo was such that I felt I was at a resort for senior ci [... read more]tizens, not an adults only. And everything ended by about 10:30 PM! At an adults only resort! I know kids that go to bed later! And there is no discotheque or music bar to runaway to. After a couple of nights we realized - by pure chance - that there was a theatre at the sister family resort next door. We were not given a schedule or app for this programming but found something on a wall while walking around. We took in a few of the shows put on - including the typical Michael Jackson (been there, done that, but awesome in the face of absolute boredom) and one circus show that was good considering where we were, and what we'd been exposed to (or not). We also felt the activities at the beach were lacking. No drink testing, no beach volleyball (admittedly the beach is not very flat and wide for this), etc. There were dance lessons but frankly they were annoying being right next to lounging area if you were trying to read or sleep under the sun. All in all, a beautiful place that is in great shape, but completely bored by the lack of fun activities and entertainment.

Catalonia Royal La Romana: Very pleased with our stay!!

We found the grounds to be very nice featuring mature landscaping, nice palm trees, stone work, pools and adult lobby/ hotel and restaurants area. The rooms outside of the newly built building,I found that they are backlogged on keeping up with the maintenance items for the rooms; although I found that they are nice suites that are well thought out in design and functionality. Sand around the single loungers needs to be sifted, not just racked. Things I would change is adding fresh s [... read more]heets daily to the beds at the beach and a bigger towel service section. This should increase. Overall I see an effort to improve visible common area upgrades and maintenance crews working hard which demonstrates that Catalonia Hotel Resorts really take care of their properties. I was pleased with the staff and service workers. Beach is amazing!! Food was great! Entertainment was great as well! Overall 4.7* out of 5.

Catalonia Yucatan: A wonderful vacation

Hi everyone, Just got back last night. Here is my review of the resort: We stayed for 7 days on the Yucatan side, no privilege upgrade, just the basic package. With this said, I think this hotel is excellent value for money. The room was older and outdated, but it had a new smart TV and it was very clean. I wish we had brought a Fire stick or Roku to stream shows, because all the channels were in Spanish and I couldn't find the English subtitles. Not the end of the world. The beds were comfor [... read more]table but the pillows were a bit strange and lumpy. That being said, we found the room very comfortable and big points for the HVAC (air conditioner) being very fresh and working well. I am normally very sensitive to any kind of mold in air con units and this one was really clean. Our room was cleaned daily and water was always restocked. We mostly frequented the buffets (El Mercado, La Brisa) and booked the Mexican restaurant one night. The Mexican restaurant was great. I had a salad, which was incredible, and the chicken mole enchiladas (very good though a tad sweet). Overall, both my 7 year old and I really liked the food at the buffet. I enjoyed the fresh fruit, fresh salads, Mexican foods and spicy salsas. I put them on everything. Special shout out to the omelet lady, who has omelet-making down to a fine art! We also frequented the creperie (delicious) and the hotdog stand (usually hotdogs aren't my thing but the all-dressed was good!). The decor in the buffets and restaurants is updated and pretty chic! Temper your expectations around the beach. Its not a typical long stretch of white sand with turquoise water. The beach small and rocky in parts, so bring water shoes. Also bring your snorkel and mask because the water is very calm thanks to the berm separating it from the open water, and there are lots of fish to see! We didn't spend a ton of time at the beach because my son doesn't like the salt water. For having small kids, I think this beach is actually really ideal because there aren't huge waves or rips to worry about (plus the fish are cool). It was nearly impossible to get a beach chair due to people "reserving" them for the day then not bothering to use them for hours on end. Very frustrating and inconsiderate. This happened at the pool too. Guest services tried to address the issue with little success. We spent a lot of time at the main pool on the Yucatan side. We liked it because it was relatively quiet and there were 2 round shallow sections within the pool for kids to play in. It was nice being in a smaller resort because kids could meet and play together while parents chatted. It was so easy to run back to my room to use the washroom or to grab a forgotten item. There were a lot of umbrellas for shade as well (if you managed to snag a chair)! Wifi worked very well throughout the resort. The grounds of the hotel were beautifully landscaped, with palm trees, coconuts, flowering bushes and lots of animals (birds, iguanas, and "Mayan hamsters"). I also noticed that the staff made a good effort to keep the grounds very clean, including the pool. My favourite part of the day was getting up at 6:30, grabbing a coffee from the pool bar, and watching the sun rise over the ocean. Spectacular! The service at the resort was fantastic. From the bellhops who greeted us, to the easy check-in, to the maid service, bartenders and servers - everyone really went out of their way to give good service. I really appreciated how friendly and professional the staff were. I hope this is a sign that management is treating them well. I think that it's important to tip generously and would encourage others to do the same as the staff work very hard. We didn't check out the kids club but saw them on the beach doing activities, which looked nice. We didn't catch much of the entertainment, but we did go to the sports bar to play air hockey and pool (both were free). We watched the Moana show, which was AMAZING! My only comment is that some of the kids programming (including the Moana show), started at 9:30 pm which was way past our bedtime (and why we didn't see much of the entertainment). Another cool thing about this resort is that it's easy to leave and go walk around Puerto Aventuras. Its nice seeing people walking around and kids riding their bikes. It felt safe. The marina area is quite lovely, with some shops and waterfront restaurants. You can swim with dolphins and manatees, or just watch them from the promenade or restaurants while you eat. We also took a private tour and saw the Tulum ruins, swam in a cenote and swam with sea turtles in Akumal. This part of Mexico has so much to offer, so make sure you get out and explore! I think it would be easy to rent a car and tour yourself around if you're comfortable driving on highways. What else can I say? We had a wonderful vacation. This is not a luxury resort, but I'd say it's a solid 4 star, with loads of character, good vibes and great service to round it out. Grounds were nice and well kept disappointed with the workers hardly any spoke English when we tried to have a conversation they would look at us no reply in the dining area some acted like we were bothering them not sure if we would recommend because of the language barrier not the best beach

We were originally in the comfort room, which was hugely disappointing. The door lock didn’t work, it was outdated, and looked nothing like the photos. We had to upgrade because the room was unacceptable. The upgraded room was lovely.

Catalonia Riviera Maya: Aweful resort

The stay was an absolute nightmare — cockroaches and ladybugs in the room, zero water pressure in the shower, and noises from the hallway and people getting busy in neighboring rooms. As for the amenities, restaurants, and bars, they were a complete joke. The food lacked flavor, had bad quality, and to add insult to injury, they recycled leftovers like toasting old bread to use as croutons in salads. Everything shut down at 11 PM, and you couldn't even get a drink afterward. Room service of [... read more]fered a laughable three items after 6 PM. The disco club and sports areas reeked of rotten humidity, making it nearly impossible to breathe. To top it all off, the place seemed to be infested with some rat/squirrel hybrid creature. They were everywhere—on the beach, in the lobby, in the corridors, between rooms... This was a disastrous experience. My advice: STAY AWAY

Catalonia Bavaro Resort: Okay resort

Resort is huge! Nothing is close by. The grounds are well kept and clean. Wish they would spend time taking care of the rooms as they do the grounds. The buffet offered a variety of foods, which was good. But everything was very salty. The ala carte restaurants was good, except Terrace. Not recommended! Staff at the resort needs to be given some training in being friendly and inviting. Found the staff preferred not to speak English and pretended they could not understand what was being said. Roo [... read more]ms in the family section if the resort is less desirable. The toilets do not flush, the water in the face sink does not drain, the stand up shower gets flooded while showering. There are not enough towels in the rooms and housekeeping cleans only what the eye can see. Our washroom mirror had stains all over and was never cleaned. My headboard was made of rattan and was filled with dust. The linens was not being changed so I had to leave a note for housekeeping to change it. The fridge in the room is a waste if time, it was not keeping anything cold. The pool is ok but do not expect pool towels. Be careful using the cups at the pool. The bar people basically dipped the cups in water and called rhat washing it. I got "washed" cups with lipstick stains. We went 2 days without pool towels and was skeptical to use our room towels because we were not sure if we'll get new ones. The beach is awful. Full with seaweed. No one day we could've use the beach. Be very careful of the West Jet tour guide for Saona Island. We took this tour and he actually took off leaving 8 people on the beach. Just by chance someone saw him with some of the people leaving we had to hurriedly gather our stuff and run to catch up with him. In the weekend the resort is taken over by the locals, who got preferred treatment. Was there anything good i can say about this resort.....the grounds were well kept. This vacation I was counting the days I had to leave and get back home.

Catalonia Bavaro Resort: Hotel Nightmare

This hotel rooms needs revamping and the staff needs training on how to accommodate the guest. Upper management needs to be more responsible for handling the staff working under their leadership. We did a day trip via the West Jet agent and they forgot to tell us they were leaving. Thank God one of the girls noticed and ran for about 10 mins to catch up with the guide to let him know we’re were coming. Catalonia Bravo resort is not what I expected. Would like to get back my money. Poor service and room was deplorable. Bathroom area too small. Had to beg for them to change towels. Door key would not work. Keep having to go to front desk to get another 😒

Catalonia Bavaro Resort: NOT an amazing hotel

The rooms were very poor furniture damaged. AC leaking water all day. Safe rusty and not working. Shower flooding drain not clearing water. Tub large duty stain. Did not use it. There was a large crab like bug in closet. I was stressed and fustrated .It took 1.15 mins for someone to come. I used a tiwel at the door to block and bugs.They egnored me when I asked to be move. Food good. I would like my money back or a % of it

Catalonia Bavaro Resort: Dated resort rooms need upgrading

Worst vacation ever, shout out to Kenia, very pleasant hostess, made you feel welcome with her smile and warm hug. Ask for 2 beds, got a king size and a cot. When my sister ask for another bed, associate at check in said none was available , but it's ok because he can fit on the cot. Beach towels was a no show if you got there after 11am. Some food items was good, but some too salty. Melencia at the bar was very pleasant, always had a smile on her face. Beach was ok. Catalonia Riviera Maya: Perfect Vacation Resort

We upgraded our room to the Privilege Suite with the private pool and it was the best! What a wonderful resort, staff were so friendly and accommodating, food was delicious with so much variety. I would recommend this resort to anyone looking to have a safe and relaxing vacation.
