Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Great family vacation and kiteboarding
Stayed here Jan 5-12, the temperature dropped to 24 the day before we arrived, and Jan is a windy month, but lucky for us, we were there to kiteboard. And the kiteboarding was amazing! I was charged 30cuc just to get my kiteboard bag from the airport to the resort, a bit of a cash grab considering It didn’t cost anything to fly the gear here all the way from Canada, but it cost $45Cdn to but it on a bus for a 1/2hr drive, maybe it was an AirTransit thing as I’ve never paid this fee the past [... read more]5 trips, but this was the first time flying with them.
After the first night we moved to a room on the east side of the resort, right beside the pool, ground floor. This was a perfect location for us, we used the patio door all week, steps to the pool and close to the beach. The staff was happy and helpful, daily they would come around the pool and take drink orders, they were serving donuts each day, chopping open fresh coconuts. We even had special coffees delivered right to our patio in the morning. We would tip, but we didn’t tip everyone every time, and it certainly didn’t effect the attitude or service of the staff. We ate at all the restaurants and a-la-cartes. The food was really good for a remote area of Cuba. We were comfortable letting our two sons stay up late as the resort is small enough that it feels very cozy and safe. A couple nights they came home at 3-4 in the morning, having met friends their ages (16 & 19). Only complaints were that it was not super hot, but it is January and you can’t control the weather, the there was some bugs, but we were the ground floor and our patio door was open a lot of the time.
Kiteboarded 6 out of 7 days, I did pay the 25cuc, which is supposed to pay for the rescue guys, but they never came back the rest of the week. So basically I paid to use the ocean. Cash grab. Although it is a great place to teach, both my sons got up and we’re riding. So happy to see, it was worth the cost of the trip right there.
Low tide is a fun time to walk way out on the sandbars, great for photos
Over all it was amazing and would return but maybe in April when it’s a little warmer

Hotel Camino del Mar: Worst Resort in Cuba
Terrible hotel doesn't even have the basic amenities figured out. No Running water, No A/C, bed bugs, problems with lack of batteries for the in-room safes. Drinking water promised every day to be provided in the room, didn't get a bottle once even after asking multiple times. Way below even standards in Cuba. An entire building block had no running water while we stayed there. Some rooms are infested with bed bugs, we were unfortunate enough to start with one of those rooms. There was some good[... read more]; beach was gorgeous, food was okay - extremely over salted but decent selection. After 3 terrible days in this supposed 4 star resort we were finally moved 2 resorts down to the Grand Imperial Muthu from MGM. We'll never book a vacation in another Melia run hotel. The Air Transat Rep for the Hotel (Frank) is possibly the worst rep we've ever encountered, argumentative, arrogant and accuses customers of lying when you bring concerns up. Tours organized by Frank are terrible and not worth purchasing. Any problems that arise he dissolves himself of accountability.

Hotel Camino del Mar: Just alright
This resort was having major water and a/c issues. Although, it affected us minimally (room 2308), others had no hot water or a/c.
As always, the staff and beach are fabulous. The food was ok. The public spaces were kept very nice. Unfortunately, the women's bathroom near the pool had no running water. Couldn't flush. The poor lady had to keep dumping water with a bucket down to keep them clean.
We enjoyed ourselves, but would try somewhere else next time and not recommend to people with high[... read more] expectations.

Hotel Playa Coco: Happy Vacationers
We were at Hotel Playa Coco 7 years ago. Our daughter actually met her husband there who was also vacationing with his family. So we decided to all go back including their 9 month old son. We had a very nice time. Tripcentral did a great job with their requests (crib). We had connecting rooms making it easy for us grandparents to babysit. The rooms were very large with balcony, clean, and we could see the ocean. The food was good, the pizza was the best, fish and fries...delicious! The b[... read more]uffet was well equipped...like we say always something to find that is good to eat. Yes and as always the staff were kind, accommodating, and very friendly. The young ones met some great people over the week and even ran into old friends. The drinks were delicious, coffees, Spanish coffee..yummy. The weather was ok...always had some sun, a bit windy but January is unpredictable. The beaches are spectacular, the smaller pool kept us happy the whole week, thanks to Tammy at the bar. No nit picking for us...great place, great deal! Special thanks to Jenn Black from Tripcentral and coworker for assisting us in a mistake on the passports....Tripcentral you went the extra mile, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
And Thank you to Hotel Playa Coco...Happy Vacationers

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Great Resort
Check in went smooth.
Welcome drink upon arrival.
Room clean and spacious.
Food good and plentiful.
Coffee and tea good and hot at Bars and Beans Cafe.
Great ice cream
Beach nice and sandy and shallow
24 hour bar had good pizza's.
One day we did have warm shower water
Staff and grounds great
This was our second trip to Melia Cayo Coco and we were not disappointed! I love the complete service that is found at the resort. It is clean, spacious, right on a white sand beach with a beautiful pool option as well. There are activities on the beach and around the pool all day if you want to be active or you can choose to just lounge. A number of restaurants providing great food and one 24 hour restaurant so it doesn't matter what time you arrive you can eat. The a la Carte restaurants [... read more](3 choices) provide scrumptious food (you must book a reservation). The Buffet is open for breakfast, lunch and supper with a wide variety of tasty foods. We will go back, actually many of the people we met there have returned year after year to this resort!

Gran Muthu Imperial: Great Resort
For Cuba this is cream of the crop. The rooms are upgraded and spotless. The food was the best ive had out of the 3 times ive been to Cuba. The drinks were amazing. Pools are stunning and clean. The beach sucks. If youre look to spend lots of time in the sand and ocean this isnt the resort for you.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Mid-range, at best
Grounds were well laid out, and common areas were lovely. Rooms were ok, but bathroom, namely toilet, was terrible ( afraid to use toilet seat-not good!). Gave the impression that cleanup after hurricane was rushed? Public toilets were horrific. Buffet was way too small for the number of seats in dining room, and having staff to slice deli meat, cheese and fruit to order was a pointless waste of time- more staff for omelettes, pancakes, ala carte meat/fish etc would have made more sense. Tabl[... read more]es were slow to be reset, and cutlery cleanliness was suspect. The beach, however was gorgeous and wide, with plenty of chairs

Melia Costa Rey: Beautiful Property!
Stayed 7 nights in early January 2020. The rooms are modern and housekeeping did a great job to maintain a clean and tidy atmosphere during our stay. The grounds are beautiful and also well maintained. We were able to eat at all 4 a la carte restaurants which was a nice treat to get away from the buffet those nights. I was warned about the food choices in cuba being very limited and bland but that wasn’t the case here...the food was much better than I was expecting. Overall we had a great[... read more] stay and were always treated well by the staff and locals, I would definitely return to this resort and recommend it to anyone looking for top shelf accommodations in Cuba.

Melia Costa Rey: Very nice resort away from all the commotion.
Considering the hotel went thru a hurricane 2 years ago they have done a good job getting it re-opened. Enjoyed the food with good variety. Enjoyed the nightly shows and the service was beyond expectation. Hopefully within a year the resort will be back to where it was before all the damage.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Great Resort
It was the perfect size. The facilities were clean and pleasant. The food was good and always a lot to choose from. Beautiful rooms with great service. My only complaint is that the gym opened at 9:00 am it would have been preferable to be open at 6:30 or 7:00 am.

Iberostar Origin Playa Pilar: Great Place for Family Vacation
We were a party of 12 for a friends and family vacation. This was our first trip to Cuba, and it won't be our last. We were very happy with the resort - not too big, and not too small. The grounds were well-kept, pool was sparkling clean, and rooms were clean and comfortable, even though a bit dated. No one in our party had any issues with their rooms - all was in good working order.
The a-la-carte restaurants were very nice - The Tapenyaki (Japan) restaurant was by far the favourite with o[... read more]ur group. The'beach' area we actually were very happy with, even though there is only a small portion of actual beach that goes directly into the water. The rest of the beach area is covered with a dock, with steps directly into the water. Our party actually preferred the dock area - this way we weren't getting sand where it didn't belong. The steps from the dock into the water were in need of repair - a couple steps missing and one that was only half attached - but certainly not a deal-breaker! The ocean was gorgeous! The water was so clear and the bottom was soft sand. We could see many different starfish and conch shells in the water. The snorkeling was great too! Just down from our resort was Pilar Beach - it truly is one of the most beautiful beaches!
The buffet restaurant was ok..... We were told that the food wasn't great, however we found that there was always something to eat, and never went hungry - even the picky eaters in our group were ok with the food.
We will be back to Cuba, and would like to go back to this resort. The staff were so friendly! Thanks for a wonderful vacation!

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Nice resort with poor service and food
The hotel and the pools with the beach are fantastic. The bars and bartenders are great but the food was very poor in diversity at the buffet, difficult to get your 3 meals à la carte as availability is limited and the service ( coffee, water, soft drinks...) was lacking.
We were there from January 3-10 and we had only 3 days of good weather. Not many activities or things to do in Cayo Coco.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Never again
Memories was so much different then 5 years ago. The staff was rude and we had upgraded to Diamond club and paid the extra $
Our bed sheets smelled like mould. We Couldn’t even book à la cart for the first few days the diamond club restaurant was awful. The diamond club beach Loungers were broken. They ran out of food they ran out of ketchup, they ran out of french fries they ran out of hotdogs. The only good thing I can say about this hotel was where it was situated on the ocean. It was ve[... read more]ry disappointing my daughter had to sleep with a T-shirt over her pillow so she didn’t smell that dank smell. Everyone we spoke to was very disappointed with the hotel staff and the hotel amenities and the overall hotel Atmosphere. It’s unfortunate that the stop was overworked and they all seemed like the head of their life. Nobody was helpful and no one made us feel like our well earned money was put to good use

Melia Jardines del Rey: Lovely Resort
I thought the hotel itself, rooms, entertainment and bar service were very good. The ground keeping was very well maintained and the beach was stellar!
My only complaint was the food service. Because this hotel is so large and caters to so many people, we found the breakfast and dinner buffet service very, very, very chaotic and busy. At times you could not get a plate or a bowl for ice cream or a glass for the fruit smoothies. It was a long wait to get though the special food lines like made[... read more] to order chicken or fish even the french toast very very slow. The food also was very repetitive and we ate the same things for 10 days.
The exception to this was on New Years eve. Because tables were pre-booked it worked well and the spread was a 10/10 including lobster and shrimp. They did a fab job here.
This all being said we would return to this Melia resort as we felt comfortable there.

Melia Cayo Coco: Terrific vacation over Christmas
Family vacation with our 21 yr old son and 19 yr old daughter. The resort was perfect! The resort is on the quiet side and was perfect for relaxing. On the flip side, the kids always had something to do and had fun in the evenings at the billiards bar and disco. Loved that the resort was only 20 minutes from the airport.
Highlights: Live music at the pool for an hour at 9:00am and 5:00pm every day, champagne and oj in the lobby every morning, foam pool party one afternoon, evening entert[... read more]ainment in the lobby, and Christmas Eve champagne toast in the lobby, and dinner.
Overall: The beach is spectacular and the staff is amazing - some of the nicest, friendliest people I've come across. The food was really good and there was a lot of variety. The a la cart restaurants were good too. On our last night we ate at the Mediterranean restaurant and for a small upcharge I ordered the lobster and it was well worth it. The Mediterranean restaurant was our favorite.
We stayed in the older part of the resort and our bathroom was really dated. We only had warm, not hot, water most mornings (maybe the resort was at capacity?). That said, we always had hot water in late afternoon when we were getting ready to go out for the evening. Beds were comfortable. The location of our building was terrific! Right in between the beach and the pool and close to everything, so it was perfect for us. I would prefer to stay there again based on the location alone.
There were a lot of activities to do throughout the day, but for the most part we just chilled at the beach or the pool. It was the perfect vacation for our family and we would go back there again.
