Occidental Papagayo: Not the adult only youd expect.

Pool bar closed at 5pm, next to no entertainment, disco was a 30 by 20 room which bad sound system. Pool music started at 7am, Bar doesnt open until 9am. Buffet was small but nice! A la cartes were ok. Resort was clean and well taken care of. Lisbeth in the buffet was EXTREMELY helpful with my food allergies and she made sure everyday i was taken care of during breakfast and lunch. The dinner host Manwell (not completely sure of his name) wasnt pleasant and didnt go through the buffet with  [... read more]me. He just said oh you cant eat anything and then walked away. (I am gluten adnd dairy free.) The Air transat rep Benoit was ok but did NOT explain the excursions well and he convinced us to go through him to rent a car at a whopping 73$USD a day. We should have shopped around but he was very persuasive. He also offered us a discount on the excursion but then did not honour it. I have been disappointed twice with Barcelo resorts. Also the wifi wasnt free (but free for air transat customers) and was horrible service expect for in the lobby when and if it worked. I also asked the front dest to move rooms because the pool was SOOO loud and they couldnt accomodate.

Occidental Punta Cana: Beautiful Location but poor customer service

We paid a significant amount to upgrade to First Club and were expecting special check-in and other premiere services. We didn't find out about all of the extra services until day 5 of our vacation. Not sure if we were talking to an inexperienced person or someone that just didn't care about customer service. Because of this, we were sitting in over-crowded areas, waiting forever for poor quality drinks and getting poor customer service whenever eating. The room we eventually got was very nice a [... read more]nd up to date. The beach and grounds are gorgeous but the constant swarming local vendors drove us away from the beach. I wouldn't rate this hotel as a 4 star until they sort out there customer service issues. You definitely need to pay the extra money to upgrade to get the 4th star.

Allegro Cozumel: 3 star

We had a seemless check in and the staff were pleasant upon arrival. The grounds are beautiful and the pools were as well. The majority of the staff were very nice and quite friendly. The manager, Elvis, was less than helpful. I found he was not willing to make any exceptions at all. We approached him when it was literally raining in our room. We spent a few hours cleaning up the mess and moving things around. We let the front desk know and the next day we spoke with Elvis. We requested we wer [... read more]e given a late check out as we spend time on our vacation cleaning up their mess. He would not budge at all. We were given absolutely nothing for the trouble. I just found this a little perplexing as our room was soaked, our luggage was wet, our bed was wet etc. Housekeeping did come and change our bedding however there was a significant inconvenience and it wasn't acknowledged. The other aspects of the hotel: the pool and beach are just amazing. The staff in the restaurants were fabulous. The food in the a la carts I found to be quite good. I liked the menu and the quality of the food. The buffet however was tired. They need to update the food options and improve on the quality. I need to say that I am not a picky person however there were aspects of this resort that were disappointing. I hope that management make improvements to this resort as it would be difficult for me to recommend this resort based on my experience. I am also surprised that Sunwing isn't aware of these concerns based on the number of people that expressed concerns that were on our flight, there had to be previous concerns noted.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Nice family resort

The resort was very clean and service was great. The maid service was fantastic. The play area for toddlers was just fantastic. Our little granddaughter just had so much fun. I think though the internet should be included in the room.

Occidental Cozumel: Beautiful Resort,very calm.

The personnel is warm and very helpful, always welcoming. The grounds are very well maintained. Our room was the best one I have had in a long time while traveling in the Caribbean, in terms of cleanliness and having all the necessary items available, everything worked well (toilet, shower, air conditioning), the bed was very comfortable. We used the back balcony a few times. It is very close to the forest, we saw or heard many birds singing. There was not many mosquitoes when we were there.  [... read more] There was always 1 or two persons near the lobby wanting to sell you time share, but after a while you know who they are and after having asked a couple time they let you be. The snorkeling was very near the hotel and other places further, the water was great, (quite strong water current on the first day we got there, the other days were better for the current) nice sandy bottom at the beach. Food was good, a nice variety, the a la carte...Mediterranean restaurant was a great choice, very well done. The food near the pool always had something for every taste. We didn't get to see many night time shows, but we saw the one where three persons were doing figures with torches of fire... We enjoyed it very much. Even if the environment is very small for the shows and in the open air, it gives it a homey feeling. For me the calmness of the place, the discovery of the little animals around, the walk on the beach and the good company made it all a very good time. I would go back. pcg0311

Barcelo Gran Faro Los Cabos: A relaxing, peaceful week in the sun

My friend and I Had the holiday we were looking for. The rooms were clean and very quite. The beds were comfortable, with 4 lovely pillows. We slept great. The food was good. The staff were pleasant. The grabbing of the best spots with umbrellas at 5 in the morning, for the whole day is a liitle annoying. Everyone is in on the game. Other than that, we had a great stay.

Occidental Cozumel: Great Resort (except for the food)

Everything except the food would bring us back to this resort. The food selection was limited. The food quality was “fair” at best and not up to the rating of the hotel. This also applies to the three restaurants on site. The beach, the service and amenities were all very good.

Occidental Caribe: Great Time !!

Just returned from this resort and all was good ! My husband and I went with 2 other couples and there were no real complaints. Pools are clean & nice, the pool with the pool bar has all the entertainment and is louder and the other pool is quite large and is quiet. This offers good options, if you just feel like relaxing or if you want to party it up your choice. Staff are friendly. food is good. All of us upgraded to a Superior oceanfront room, view was excellent.. Some rooms are located near  [... read more]the buffet which can be quite loud during breakfast and dinner, but once they are done clean up noise dies down. French leCart was the best but all others were good as well.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Great family resort

The Barcelo Maya Colonial Beach is great for families. Pools kept clean and very enjoyable. No pool entertainment on the Colonial side although entertainment every day on the Tropical side. Large resort, lots to do and see. Dolphinaris on site 5 minutes from our rooms, was a great place to watch the dolphins in action... and no need to leave the resort to swim with them! Beach overall great, but tons of seaweed (workers said it’s a bad time of year for it). Food was great, lots of options for  [... read more]breakfast lunch and dinner. A la cartes were all very good (steak house and Japanese were our favourites). Rooms very humid, all power is motion activated in rooms. A/C turns off when at the beach or pools all day. Overall we had a great experience, top 2 resorts we’ve been to!

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Awesome Resort

My husband and I traveled the first week of March and stayed for 7 nights. We found the hotel personnel to be very friendly and accommodating. We rarely had to wait for anything when it came to service. I did find that some of the bars were understaffed for the amount of people that were there. At times there was only 1 bartender, and one waitress. The grounds were nice and clean, the beach was amazing for walking. There were a couple nice areas for swimming, but a lot of areas are coral ( [... read more]which is ideal for snorkeling). I don't know if this was due to some windy days, but there was an abundance of "seaweed" in the water and washed up on shore, personally was not bothered by this, but it seemed many others were. The food was good, I cannot complain as I found something to eat and was satisfied-I am a very picky eater, and do not eat seafood. There were many small bonuses to this resort, such as having its own Dolphin water park, shopping mall, casino, and sports area. It also appears to be very kid oriented with many theme parks for the youngsters. Our overall experience was very good.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Good family resort

Good family resort. Lots of pools, beach has a lot of seaweed wouldn’t go here for the beach. Very nice grounds. Lots of activities on site. Food was decent, steak house was the best. Rooms were nice nothing special, very humid and musty at times as AC doesn’t stay running when you leave the room. Bartenders were friendly and made night life fun. Would go back with family.

Allegro Playacar: GOOD VALUE

The resort was kept very clean, the rooms could do with a bit of repair. Our room for the first 4 nights had weak Air Conditioning and wouldn't go below 24 degrees, after 2 days of the resort telling us it was going to be fixed, they finally moved us. Room #2 was very well Air Conditioned but had water issues, the shower stall leaked(not a big deal it had tiled floors). But after it rained the floor in the living room had puddles from the roof leaking. The food was adequate, the reservations f [... read more]or the Ala carte Restaurants were not very accommodating(had to be booked no more then day before). Didn't have any meals this way. All the waiting staff and cleaners were very helpful and friendly. We requested a late check out because of a late flight time and were told there were no vacancies and that we were welcome to wait in the lobby for 6 hours , but were welcome to use the facilties. It rained so we sat in the lobby for 6 hours, waiting to go to the airport. Over all good value for what we paid. Would try a different place next time..

Royal Hideaway Playacar: Truly a five star !

What a gorgeous resort - quiet restful and well-appointed. Food was gourmet and service fabulous ! A little older crowd and no partying ! Wonderful vacation ! Would highly recommend it - worth the extra money !

Barcelo Karmina: Nice Resort March 1st - March 8th 2018

I have been to this hotel a few times and sad to say in my opinion it has dropped down to a 4 star at most.Staff were friendly,food ok. I believe my star ratings below are fair. One example i can give you is if your not into doing the stairs try to get a room down low, elevators have been unreliable and i mean unreliable.

Occidental Punta Cana: Improved conditions

Rooms greatly improved and very nice. Main desk very poor service. Example second day it rained no umbrella in room told main desk and concierge both said they would take care of it, never happened. Inroom fridge did not work took two days to get one that barly worked. Food not the best and every night at dinner was cold.

Occidental Punta Cana: Wonderful resort

My sister, brother and sister-in-law just got back from a week at this great resort. Beautifully kept grounds, short walk from rooms to the beach or lobby, not too big, no problems getting chairs at the beach or pools, and the meals were fantastic. We loved our meals at every one of the five à la carte restaurants, the buffets were great - we spent most of our days at the beach so often enjoyed the buffet at La Caracole (hello Ana and Felipe!) so you ate by the ocean, though more variety at th [... read more]e main buffet. The room and bathroom were clean, great size patio, and the beds and pillows were so comfortable - everyone remarked on them! All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Lots of shopping available on the resort if so inclined. We did a couple of excursions and there were two days when too windy to swim in the ocean, but we spent most of our days walking the amazing, sandy Bavaro beach - you could walk for miles! First time in the DR but we would not hesitate to come back - lovely, friendly people.

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: GREAT RESORT

Lovely grounds, well kept. 2 great pools, one with a swim up bar, and 1 for quiet swimming etc. The resort is very well maintained. Great beach chairs, lots of them, and lots of beach space, so you are not sitting right on top of your "neighbour". Lots of stores in the resort for shopping, ranging from Gucci to your normal T-shirt and gift shop. Great restaurants and a casino in the resort and a coffee bar to just sit and relax after supper, if you wish. Entertainment every night which i [... read more]s very good, but it starts at 10pm, which is not the best, if you have kids with you. Also, this resort is only 25 minutes from the airport, so you are not on the bus long.

Barcelo Maya Palace: Great resort with a few flaws.

This hotel was beautiful, clean and very well groomed grounds. The service staff were very attentive, friendly and polite. The specialty restaurants provided excellent food and selection. On the negative side, we were very disappointed with: 1.) The buffet food. Although there was a good variety for both breakfast and lunch, any foods that were not specifically ordered and cooked on a grill were cold, when they should have been hot. 2.) The beach. We loved the fact that we could  [... read more]snorkel from the beach and that it contained coral reefs, however, the shore was stony and following a windy day with wave action, there was a great deal of weed on the beach which was not cleared for several days. 3.) Adult only pool was wonderful but often didn't have enough chairs for the guest demand. 4.) It was unfortunate that the entertainment did not commence until after 10:00 p.m. which we found late after a full day of activities in the sun.

Barcelo Huatulco: Great people, great service and great weather.

Overall I would rate the experience a 9 out of ten and the only reason for not getting a 10 out of 10 is due to the fact that the exclusive or alacart restaurants were not that good. Service again excellent but the food quality was disappointing. We went to the Mexican and Japanese restaurants and it was not good at all which doesn't make any sense. We also went to the Italian which was very good. This then made our decision to venture out into town for dinners which were awesome. Barcelo Huatulco: Wonderful Resort!

The Barceló Huatulco was a great resort that 32 of our family travelled to recently. The staff is extremely friendly, providing great service at all times. The swimming pools are perfect, as they have an adults pool, a middle pool for teens, and a kids pool with waterslides. The food was great at the breakfast and lunch buffets. Our room was an Oceanview which was the best view we have ever had on any of our vacations. My wife took part in the Garra Rufa fish treatment at the outdoor spa and en [... read more]joyed it a lot! Albino and Martha were very nice and provided us with lots of additional information about Huatulco and the resort/surroundings. I would definitely return to this resort.
