This is the second year in a row that we’ve visited the Pullman over New Year’s. We had such a good time last year, we had to do it again. The best things about the resort are the staff, the beach, and the fact that they really know how to throw a New Year’s party. The buffet is pretty decent, and the a la carte restaurants are very good, especially the French and Italian restaurants. The airport is very close, which means you don’t spend an inordinate amount of time commuting to and fro[... read more]m at each end of your stay. The rooms are nice enough, nothing fancy, but comfortable. The one negative is the wifi, if that matters. It is expensive, slow, and unreliable. That said, we’d go back again!

Hotel Playa Coco: Excellent Value Continues
This was my 8th visit to Hotel Playa Coco, the 7th consecutive year going for two or three weeks in December. This duration was 14 days, at a very reasonable cost of $1207. The excursion was arranged through Trip Central, with Hola Sun as the tour operator. Both were excellent, as was the airline, Air Transat: on time, and a pleasant, comfortable flight, both ways.
The room was spacious and clean, with ample water pressure and warm water. A new bottle of water was provided daily, and the maid[... read more], Irma, did an excellent job. The AC worked well, when needed. A digital safe was provided, free of charge. The 110 volt outlet in the bathroom worked fine. There was an excellent quality mattress.
The grounds were kept in good shape, and both pools seemed clean. Too much noise [overly loud music] around the large pool, but the small pool was quiet, with a well-equipped pool bar, operated mainly by the congenial Tammy.
The beach, per usual, was lovely: beautiful white sand, and aqua water. Ample shades and chairs were available. It was too noisy around the beach bar, but quiet enough, if you moved further east along the beach front. An attendant was available to help with beach chairs.
The buffet was quite good, generally speaking. The new food manager, Yailen Cancanon Arvelo, did a superb job overseeing breakfast and lunch. For breakfast, there was always plenty of yogurt [strawberry or natural], fresh fruit [papaya, melon, orange slices, watermelon, guava] and a lovely selection of cheeses [imported from Europe]. On 4 or 5 occasions, there was delicious whole wheat bread, and the white bread was quite good. The butter is excellent. Of course, one can order fried eggs or omelettes, at the cooking station. Freshly grilled meats and fish were available at lunch and supper.
At breakfast and lunch, servers Kirenia and Mercedes provided excellent service. I'm sure that the other servers were equally as pleasant and helpful.
There is a pizza restaurant by the beach, behind which is a 24 hour snack bar, featuring burgers, fries, hot dogs, etc. It's a new, nicely decorated, enclosed room, with outdoor seating as well. Bartenders Juvi and Jorge do a fine job.
The Lobby Bar is open 24/7, and the newer Beer Lounge was open from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and featured air conditioned comfort, and bottled or canned beer.
The Ice Cream Parlour is open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
WiFi service was quite good, at a cost of one CUC for an hour. The Lobby Staff was polite and helpful, as was the Public Relations staff.
There was a variety of nightly entertainment, with a newly constructed amphitheater.
The buildings are older, and could use some upgrades, but as indicated, my room was fine.
One might complain about the currency exchange [13 to 14 CUC's for $20 Canadian], but I suspect this is a main way the Cuban government derives income, in valid currency, in order to purchase supplies for the resorts. Other than tipping, what are you going to buy??
And please do tip the workers: such helps them immensely. Gifts are also appreciated greatly.
I'm happy to, once again, recommend Hotel Playa Coco.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Not what we expected
We were surprised by how run down the rooms were but the staff and the beach made up for it. We were happy that we brought our own catsup and mustard with us to have on the burgers and with other foods. Unfortunately our children don't like sea food so it took them a couple of days to figure out what they could eat.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Great resort, very mediocre service
Beach, accommodations, pool, etc were all fantastic! All new and kept in great shape.
The service on the resort was very sub par. There was an expectation of tips for any type of service (ie. taking your order at the snack bar, dusting off a beach chair, etc.)
Food is as expected in Cuba, not great but still good variety at the buffet.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Lovely Time!
We enjoyed our stay at Memories Caribe. The first room we were given was leaking and smelled very bad and so after asking 4 times, we were finally moved to an upgraded room. The upgraded rooms have doors on the toilet area but not on the shower area (we brought a shower curtain along as it was a friend and myself). The drinks are not the greatest. We got a few bug bites but some people had quite a few bites and said it's the worse they have seen in bites in 8 years. The food was good but nothing[... read more] special. The beach was nice as well. I would say diamond club was worth it as we received an extra ala carte meal and upgraded alcohol, which I'm not sure we actually received all the time and a special area on the beach. I did not find the staff overly friendly. The resort is small and everything is in walking distance but I would try somewhere else next time.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: The worst resort experience so far
Ok, you can't expect perfection in Cuba resort, 4 stars or not. This metal tube in bathroom, that falls down and hit your back, toilets, that are clogged all the time... And cards for the door - We have to reprogram them every day! "Don't place them near your cells phone!" We didn't placed near cellphones, near computer, near tv, near cooler :) - still needs to be replaced every 24 hours. "You know - they are magnetic!" My explanation that all hundreds of hotels, that I have visited use the same[... read more] magnetic keys, but works properly, - no this argument never works.
When weather is not good, there is nothing to do - if you expect club with ping pong or billiard tables - nothing! You can only entertain you with paid internet in main hotel lobby - you don't have it in rooms.
And this 'representative' - shows one time at the beginning. I've ordered my excursion through other guys.
Kind of dissapointment

Melia Jardines del Rey: Great Beach
We spent a week from December 23rd to the 30th 2019. The beach was gorgeous! Water was warm with soft sand. Staff were friendly. Our room was ready for us when we arrived. Rooms were clean but run down for a fairly new resort. We have been to Cuba 6 times prior to this stay so we are well aware that their resources are somewhat limited. Upon arrival our sliding door did not lock, it was however fixed within a few hours. The entire east side of the resort was shutdown. The pools were closed as w[... read more]ell as many of the a la carte restaurants and only certain ones were open on certain days and they were all located in the same room. The walkways were very dark be sure to take a flashlight with you! The phone in our room didn't work either...we were told it was a problem on the entire resort. My husband ended up with a double ear infection (which I believe was from the dirty pool) but was treated well at the medical clinic. The entertaiment was average and the overall cleanliness in the common areas was poor. There always seemed to be a shortage of toilet paper and soap in all the shared washrooms.

Melia Cayo Coco: We'll have to stay longer next time!
We returned to Melia Cayo Coco (w/ friends) for 9 days (Dec 18-27) and were wowed! Improvements all around!
The food was excellent – tasty & fresh. Smaller portions greatly minimized the amount of food waste we have seen at other resorts. The quality of the food throughout was well above par.
We enjoyed live music every night in the lobby bar. The musicianship was incredible. We relished the fact that these artists were not forced to compete with other entertainment but in fact preceded [... read more]and complemented it.
As for our clean room, we enjoyed a comfortable King-sized mattress & pillows, brand new a/c, hot water and fresh towels & sheets daily. Our request for more tv channels was addressed promptly and to our satisfaction. Also, a lighting issue we had taken note of was corrected before we even took a moment to call about it!
We celebrated my boyfriend's birthday at the International Restaurant and were delighted with the attention to detail that the friendly and caring staff showed us.
The grounds were beautiful; the beach, expansive. To help preserve it all we bring Bubba Mugs for our drinks. We would definitely encourage others to bring reusable containers like these to help preserve this amazing space from being littered with disposable plastic cups and straws.
We really love the adult-only aspect of MCC and the more mature, laid-back vibe that comes with that: it is not a party resort. All efforts by staff really show and are felt – it’s a special place we are SO grateful to enjoy!

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: A hit and miss
Bottom line: this could be a great resort, but too bad that the shortcuts the management takes and the fact that they tolerate bad service can ruin your vacation.
The good:
- excellent front desk support
- good and clean rooms.
- nice beach
- relatively good food (for Cuba)
- good service at the buffet and at some a la carte restaurants
- excellent bar service at the beach, Juan and Victor, always busy but always having a great attitude.
The indifferent:
- compact resort; everythin[... read more]g is close
- grounds ok for a relatively new resort
- buffet layout results in crowded food area
The bad:
- very rude bartenders in the evening shift at the lobby bar; they make so much tip that they no longer care about the service they are supposed to provide to you. For context, this was my 10th + time in Cuba, and this was the worst bar service I had (I do tip well for good services). The worst behaving bartender did not even bother to wear a name tag like any other employee, so complaints could not be specifically made. After complaining, we were wondering if our drinks were what they are supposed to be (a cappuccino coffee had 3 expressos purred in, as a pay back!).
- the lobby bar officially closes at 11pm; of course, that is when the bartenders have the willingness to stay that long; most of the time they close when they want, before 11, and the management is turning a closed eye
- the level of rudeness at the lobby bar was so high one evening that we complained to the customer service rep (their table is next to the lobby bar), only to see that the rep has no authority whatsoever; we escalated to the manager. He did his PR routine, like "he understands", "he is so sorry", etc. from 10.55 to 11:05 (I am a patient person), then I told him that everything is cool, just help us with that glass of wine we wanted at 10:50. The funny part was when he responded that he is sorry, but the bar closed at 11 and now is 11:05. He was not kidding... Too bad, that would have been a good joke. So I had to listen to his non-sense explanations for 5 more minutes.
- I know Cuba and the Cuban service, and when I am on vacation I am not looking at the empty half of the glass; rather, I want to relax and avoid negative energy. If something bothered me that bad that I need to mention to the customer service, that problem would be solved at other resorts. Not at GMG. After a couple of days I noticed that my fridge has not been replenished with the 2 beers we were supposed to have in the fridge for the 2 adults in the room. Not a big deal, but I mentioned it to the manager when he "apologized" for the bad lobby bar service, and to the customer service rep, with no success: there was no beer in my fridge for many days after. I saw resort employees enjoying some of those Bucanero cans between the buildings... good for them, but was that the beer I was supposed to have in the fridge?!
- Sea food restaurant: good food, but the deplorable service we got from the restaurant boss right from the beginning, made the entire evening a write-off.
- there is a parallel business everywhere there is shortage of something: the beach buffet/restaurant (not really on the beach or with view of the beach) serves pizza by the order; good luck waiting for it unless you paid someone at the restaurant to hold it for you ahead of time; you can imagine the frustration of folks seeing someone who just came in getting their pizza, when the other guys were there for more than an hour. Kids or teens alone were completely ignored for hours (our kids were there from 1pm, when it opened, and were served at 2:50 only after we complained for them) – well, we know that they tend to not tip...
- night shows are ok, but the performers waiting at the exit at the end of the shows asking for tips is something I saw for the first time; I guess there is a first for everything.
- after 11pm, there is nothing open other than the snack bar, which is nothing to write home about. No disco, no dancing place, no music in the background anywhere, not even a drink in the lobby while enjoying a chat with your friends. It feels like MGM is offering the minimum they can get by with, which is substandard for a 4+ or 5 star hotel they claim they are.
- you need to deposit 15 CUC per beach towel, which you get back when you return the towel at the end of your stay. You exchange your money (45 CAD for 30 CUC), but if you don't have time to spend the CUC at the end, you will get less than 40 CUC back at the airport exchange. Be aware, you are no longer allowed to cross the border control in Cuba with CUC, and at the airport you cannot buy anything with your CUC, so you need to exchange them at a loss. If I were to trust the management's desire for improvement at GM, I would suggest them to accept other currencies for towel deposits (give CAD, Euro etc for deposit, get them back at the end), but, based on what I have seen, I am afraid I am wasting my time...

Melia Cayo Coco: Great resort
Nice room. Great pool. Good food selection at the buffet but limited at the à -la-carte restaurants. The food quality and service were good in all of them, especially the buffet. The weather was nice most of the time, with the exception of some rain and high winds (the reception roof leaked in a few spots). The beach was OK but just a few people got into the water. Sea weeds were all over the beach.
In general, the experience was great, and the people were friendly and helpful.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Great resort
The resort was amazing Christmas Eve the decorations and food was great
The staff where very attentive
Pools and pool area great but not much of a beach
Cuban night great shows
Best service in Lobby bar by The staff
I would definitely go back
The resort was very nice. The grounds were spacious, well laid out and well kept. The buildings were new, rooms fairly spacious and the balconies had poolside or ocean views. The pools and lounge chairs had great unobstructed views of the ocean. The hotel's beach was off to the right side of the property and extended for kilometers towards the other hotels.
The activities included: poolside games for kids & adults , tennis & basketball courts, sailing, windsurfing, and volley ball.
The dr[... read more]inks and service at the bars were great.
The food was buffet, snack bar or you could book full service at specialty restaurants. The selection was fresh; fruits, seafood and daily baked goods. The taste and preparation is what you would expect for Cuba.
This was a group company family vacation of 13 adults, 2 teenagers and 3 kids. We all had a great time at the hotel/ beach and on our two- 1 day excursions. We went on a jeep safari and sailing on a 40ft catamaran. We drove jeeps over the causeway to a farm for horseback riding, to a local farm and had lunch at a lakeside restaurant. The sailing including snorkeling, swimming at the offshore beach shoals, swimming and pictures with dolphins and lobster lunch. On other days some of us went / learned Scuba diving, kite sailing lessons, swimming a the pool and at the beach. We bought lots of rum, cigars, honey and the souvenirs were hand made leather and jewelry items.
We had a great time took lots of photos and would go back and recommend to friends.

Hotel Playa Coco: Caya coco and beautiful beaches
Playa coco has a nice beach and friendly staff, food is good too for a 3 star hotel. I was thinking I am going to a 4 star hotel. Our room was dated and some of appliances were not working I was in building 19 bunglow. I request to move to other buildings but, I end up going to another hotel. There grounds keeping was not so good. Garbage was around. Out side lights on walk way were all off, so you need to have a flash light. Our clothes hangers were all rusty could not hang our clothes. Gran Muthu Imperial: Love Gran Muthu Imperial
We very much enjoyed our stay. The staff are outstanding and committed to giving guests the best experience they can. The hotel itself is very new and the rooms are lovely and the grounds are beautiful and very well maintained. The swimming pools are also gorgeous and the beach is excellent too with lots of loungers and palapas. The food was the best we've had at an all inclusive in Cuba by far. Evening entertainment was very professional and the live music was outstanding. Once day was "C[... read more]uban Day" and they put on a spectacular event with traditional food, drink and entertainment. We also did a "romantic dinner" which was very nice. The spa was gorgeous and we enjoyed a massage there and they also have sauna and hot tub for clients to use. My only suggestions for improvement would be for the animation staff to not use microphones - super annoying. Also, being able to charge spa and gift shop purchases to the room would make things easier. We really like this hotel and look forward to returning.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Amazing stay!
This was my first time in Cuba and I absolutely loved it!
Everything about my trip was solely a positive experience: booking with tripcentral.ca was very easy and all the communications from them were timely and helpful, like our confirmations, tips for the trip and follow-ups. The flight was on time. The hotel transfer was very pleasant and fun.
The hotel is new and the rooms are big and stylish. The hotel territory is vast and has beautiful landscaping. The beach is amazing, very long.
Th[... read more]e staff is very friendly, they really do their best to make your stay comfortable and fun. There are 8 restaurants in total. We went to the Seafood restaurant, Indian and Italian and it was an incredibly positive experience. The food was great and served very fast.
In general, the food is good and there is a great variety of options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The animation team (Hosee, Helena, Lukas) is amazing. I attended morning stretching, Zumba and game time. They are doing a great job entertaining 'lazy folks'. Do not hesitate to check out the activities offered by them. The kids club was great. Also kudos to the animation team. They are so great with kids and their activities are super.
could go on and on, but I just recommend to make this hotel your next vacation destination and you will be able to experience it yourself! Enjoy!
Thank you tripcentral.ca and Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: It's OK for what we pay
everything would be fine, but the The fact that we got numerous bites suggests that you are not struggling like other hotels with this. A la carte restaurants are not attractive and do not offer anything special. The staff is very friendly and always ready to help. The area looks great. Clean and well maintained. Everything else was good. Thanks!
