Riu Guanacaste: All you could ask for

It is a large well appointed hotel with everything you could want. Our first time to CR but not our last. The grounds were very well kept, the staff very friendly, overall very clean, the pool is huge and well designed and the beach a little steep at high tide and a bit rocky but it is a volcanic region so that is common. It was hot and we never saw a cloud for a week, except over the hills on the distant horizon which is where the volcano is in the national park.

Riu Reggae: Riu Reggae not worth the time or money

It was awful. The highly acclaimed entertainment staff was the worst I have ever had! Sure they talked to everyone in the morning but with the exact same banter everyday to everyone. They had no skills to talk about. None. I had better entertainment at a high school musical. The worst part is that there is no music - not even at night. No dancing unless you can stay up long enough to trek down to the other resort after 11pm. Their shows only start at 10:00 pm. Imagine waiting three hours f [... read more]or a long drawn out show! They do have a live band by one pool for about an hour each day. It was uninviting. The pool they played at seemed exclusive to a hand full of guests. The other pool seemed to have more guests enjoying it, but I noticed no one ever used the washrooms - very gross. The foam party was a flop. The machine did not produce any foam. They didn' t even try to fix it. We had to ask why we could not get coffee or drinks at the buffet. We would sit there as long as possible and then most of the time get up and take coffee from the pots sitting at the waiting stations. A few times we got service. Let me make this clear - we spent a fortune on tips as we always do. The bar staff at the beach were trying their best to accommodate. However, the alcohol served is worse than in Cuba. The beach is probably the worst part of this resort. It's man made murky and lifeless. The rooms are okay. The food was okay. Book somewhere else - I am sure it will be better than this place.

Riu Palace Paradise Island: Great resort!

The hotel rooms are very nice. Service was always good. Hard to get into some restaurants but the food was good. Close to everything. Golfing very expensive but reef fishing was fun! Overall 4.8 stars holiday

Riu Palace Antillas: Great Resort

The hotel, amenities, food and drinks were great. The cafeteria and restaurants were very good and service was great. Our room door card scanner wasn’t working properly the last couple of days and we had issues trying to fix it. Other than that we were disappointed that we did not have the type of room that Susan told us we had.

Riu Flamingos: Great resort

I loved this resort . I have stayed there several times. I like the fact that it is an easy walk to the beach . There is lots of shade and beach chairs . The staff are amazing. The Italian restaurant was not as good this time... salad bar was empty, chicken was burnt, not as good a selection ..., but the Japanese restaurant was wonderful. We had a great time!

Riu Palace Paradise Island: Great Resort

Did a 4 day 3 night weekend. It was perfect. Quick flight from Toronto, and we were at resort before lunch. Food was amazing and bar service was great. Make sure you have the jerk Chicken. Visit Atlantis after 6 and see the aquarium and stop by to see the yaughts a girl can dream right. Room was lovely, but bring your own shampoo

Riu Palace Paradise Island: Excellent resort

Very clean, friendly and welcoming staff, amazing food. Great amenities and customer service. I enjoyed the excursions available and the overall accommodations provided. I highly recommend staying here!

Riu Republica: really good resort great for adults

very clean rooms, beautiful grounds & beach areas, friendly staff. Food not outstanding but acceptable. Entertainment such as pools parties, etc bar service really good. no shortage of things to do both on site and other riu location

Riu Flamingos: Had a great time.

We just got back from a week at the Riu Jalisco. This was our third time to this particular Resort and the first time since it had been renovated. The last several times we've been to Nayarit, we've stayed at the Riu Vallarta and were a little hesitant to come back to the Jalisco after reading some of the reviews. I usually take reviews with a grain of salt as I realize there is always going to be someone that just can't be pleased, but we made the right choice. I was very pleased with our  [... read more]stay. Check in went smoothly. I can't say I'm a fan of the purply modern décor in the lobby but that's a matter of taste. One thing that was a pleasant surprise is that WIFI is available - for free - throughout the entire resort and in your room for up to two devices. We even had a good signal on the beach. This is not the case at the Vallarta so this was very nice. Our room had been renovated and while there still isn't a "door" to the bathroom area (except for the toilet), they have added a glass block partition. This may not be perfect if sharing the room with someone you are not comfortable changing in front of but worked fine for us. Our room was clean, the bed was comfortable (although it looks like not all of the beds have been upgraded as we had friends on another floor and they still had the two doubles pushed together to make a king) and the air conditioning worked fine. The cleaning staff did a great job and our beer fridge was restocked regularly. The only "complaint" I can think of is that our room was on the 6th floor at the other end of the building from the elevators which meant a hike, but close to the stairs so we ended up getting our "steps" in on a daily basis whether we liked it or not! Elevators are located in the middle of the building only so if you have mobility issues, ask for a room close to the elevators. The food was excellent and if you can't find something to eat, you may be way too fussy. We ate at the buffet everyday for breakfast and a couple of times for dinner. We also tried the Steakhouse and the Italian and Asian restaurants. We were a group of 10 and the longest we ever had to wait to get in to one of the a la Carts was about half an hour. I've waited longer, for a smaller group, back home. The wait time always ended up being less then what they told us it would be. The pool area and beach area were both clean and had plenty of chairs. We sometimes didn't make it down until after 9 or 10 and were still able to find chairs which was not ever the case at the Vallarta. We did take our group over to the Vallarta (as you are allowed to use their pool too), so they could compare and we actually liked the pool area at the Jalisco better as it felt more spread out and less crowded. Only difference here is that they don't have bar service. You have to get your own drinks at the pool bar but the staff there works hard to keep every one happy. There were some complaints about kids in the adult pool at the Jalisco but honestly when we went to visit to Vallarta, we saw several kids in the adult pool there too. I would like to say though, if you insist on taking your kids into the adult pool - WATCH THEM! It's not up to others to keep an eye on your kids while you party. Even if they have a lifejacket on. There are lifeguards but they can only watch so many at a time. I could not believe how many parents are not in the pool with their kids but instead on a lounger on their phone or reading a book. The entertainment staff in the pool area was excellent and the Saturday Foam Party was a huge hit even if it did attract more kids then usual. And the occasional iguana jumping in the pool to cool off was fun to watch. All in all, we were pleased with this resort for what we paid. Taking a quick survey on the bus to the airport when we were leaving, it seems like most people were happy with it. Again, you can't please everyone and we aren't super fussy but we were quite satisfied.

Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas: good last minute spot

sunwing was great with arranging transport to and from the airport. The food overall was great (the steak house had too many of us returning our steaks as they were tough and not cook right but all else was good). The RIU beside us was very noisy and because our room was on that side we were kept awake a few nights. Staff were fantastic and the complex was kept spotless. Too bad you can't swim in the ocean out front but it is only a 20 minute walk to a beach that you can swim at. Riu Guanacaste: Amazing Resort

OMGosh this resort is amazing, very clean and all staff are friendly, I will definitely go back, being an animal lover I loved that you could walk out the back/the jungle side and see Howler monkey's in the trees as well as Iguana's on the grounds, I mean where else can you go and look up in the trees at monkey's and almost trip over and Iguana (hehe loved it), but don't worry they are not in abundance in the open and they won't hurt you, if you try to get close they will back away and hide, did [... read more]n't care for the Sanctuary, the animals look as though they were taken care of but I don't like to see animals in cages so unfortunately I wouldn't visit that again, However! loved that you could walk along the beach and there is a section they call the Monkey bar where the Capuchin monkey's are in the trees and there you can feed them, they came down to eat a banana and watermelon from my hand But be forewarned they don't like grapefruit as I tried to give them a piece, Oh sure they took it out of my hand then threw it back at me hahaha and they are so cute and so gentle when they take the fruit from your hands, the beach was great not white sands but I didn't care it was still better than being in -30 degree weather, the water was refreshingly cool and it was sunny everyday, never a cloud in the sky and if you aren't a beach person there was the beautiful pools with music and entertainment Oh my what else can I say, you won't be disappointing, the only con I had was the buffets were very bland but a ton of selection and the meals at the resort restaurants was very good and also a lot of choices, what else can I say except that I will definitely be back :-).

Riu Emerald Bay: Great Vacation once again

Third visit to this resort and still love it..great location a fifteen minute walk to flea markets and restaurants .several pools to choose from.The food was great and plentiful..we had a beach party one nigt with BBQ and entertainment right on the beach..I have nothing bad to say about this resort.

Riu Palace Las Americas: Beautiful,clean and friendly resort!!!

This is my 5th Riu hotel I have stayed at but this adult’s only resort is by far the best! The hotel itself is very clean and all the staff are extremely friendly, helpful and professional. The Buffett food is great- I don’t know what people expect from buffet but you must keep in mind that they do get repetitive but was great. I actually had salads and fresh veggies and thankfully enough I did not get sick. The black and white steak house was the best and their lobster was delishhhhh!!! The beach was clean and able to see your feet! The left side of the beach is better for swimmimg.If you want to get away from kids this is the place- ADULTS ONLY!!! Also the location is super!! You can walk out of the hotel and safely walk on the streets filled with souvenir shops, malls,restaurants , clubs and a huge supermarket. It is very safe to take their public bus for 12 pesos !! This is our fourth trip to Cancun and we feel very safe walking on the streets and taking their bus. I would highly recommend this resort!

Riu Republica: GREAT RESORT

Hotel was great food was great like that WiFi was everywhere on the resort big plus in my books found night shows wasn't a 5 star maybe 3 star in my books. Pools where well maintained and services was great. Was a bit disappoints on our room had a smell to it like sewage at times. And our sheets were damp had to air out the room every day

Riu Flamingos: great resort

food was great, shows were good we thought 2 of the shows were fantastic!! would be great to see servers go around the pool area with cocktails. Very nice to be able to go to the Riu Vallarta to swim and have lunch. Would definitely recommend this hotel to friends.

Riu Flamingos: Relax and enjoy

Wonderful trip. Flights were on time and the resort was well run. Friendly staff and clean rooms. We would stay at the Riu again. Three different restaurants to choose from. The Asian restaurant was the best kept secret.

Riu Palace Riviera Maya: Fabulous stay at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya!

My husband and I had a great stay at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya in February! The food was delicious, the beach was beautiful, rooms and customer service was wonderful, and the resort was very easy to get around. We have been to the Mayan Riviera and Cancun many times. This is now one of our favourite resorts. Don’t hesitate. Book your stay!

Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas: Ok, not the best

Grounds beautiful, food ok a la Cartes suck nice views noisy rooms no tubs need more bathrooms near pools. Liquor dispenser hard to reach, no fans in bathrooms. Enjoyed the Santa February pool better palace pools too salty.

Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas: Awesome resort with spectacular views ,staff, food and pools.

This resort was wonderful , the views from our balcony and most of the restaurants and bars were spectacular,looking out on The Arch ,lovers beach and whale watching were just amazing. We found a great selection of food which was always good ( seafood,meats, vegetables,gluten free,and desserts to die for) . The staff were very helpful and friendly everywhere, the bar service great and Top shelf liquor available upon request. Our rooms were very clean and service was great , I did miss the person [... read more]al touch of towel animals from other resorts we had stayed at ,but not something to complain about. The gardens and landscaping was breath taking . My only recommendation for someone thinking about coming is bring paper straws if you like frozen blended drinks ( resort is gone eco friendly,which I think is great) and bring your own tea if you like orange pekoe . As for Sunwing ,staff were helpful but we did experience a major delay and had to be rerouted because of weather( plane didn’t have food,liquor or dutyfree items available) I would have thought Sunwing would have tried to compensate us better. All in all it was a great vacation, Judy was extremely helpful booking our trip and next year we will be calling on her again.

Riu Republica: Amazing resort !

Beautiful area and beach with lots of big pools! Love the staff and food was good! Lots of options, great for all ages! Because the resort is so big and spaced out, you can pick the crowd you want to be around! “Starlin” at the buffet for a waiter was amazing and “Hanearo” at the Latin pool bar was so great!!! Would definitely recommend to go, and we would for sure return!!
