Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Would Go Again!

Terrific resort with many amenities. We stayed on the Plus side and found it to be well worth it. Pools, bars and restaurants were all very clean and the service staff were fantastic. Less than an hour from the airport, it's worth the drive. Rooms were modern and clean. VIP bar was great when looking for a few additional choices of drink... bartender was amazing! Brisas Covarrubias: Think again before going here

The good points. The staff are very pleasant and friendly, the beach is very nice white sand, the ocean a wonderful turquoise blue, drinks are not watered down, the resort is well laid out and the gardens are groomed daily. The a la carte restaurant food was quite good considering. The bad points. Too many mosquitoes and sand flies especially at night time, hard to watch the nightly entertainment due to this problem. Las Tunas the closest town is very polluted and many of the people were very drunk. Food is basic and usually cold. The rooms are OK but the mattresses are old and very uncomfortable. Only 1 a la carte. The so called tour guide from the airport was interested in talking to his girlfriend than telling us anything about the history of the area, and still expected a tip. Most of the washrooms were not clean and toilets often full of non-flushed feces. Cubans were coming in for the day, they were loud and very obnoxious, crowding the long-time vacations so they had no other recourse than to move. We were delayed at the airport in Holguin for approximately 6 hours, we got no explanation, there was no rep to be found, all we got was a 10CUC voucher for a stale ham and cheese and soggy fries and a soft drink. I will think twice before booking with Sunwing again, they are batting 0% for 3 trips so far with me.

Playa Pesquero: Nice Resort.

My family visited this resort from December 24 till January 1, 2018. The resort was very busy for the Christmas Season. It is a clean resort and my family was happy with food and services. Helpful and friendly staff. It was very difficult to book a restaurant for dinner. We tried the first morning but most of the restaurants were fully booked. We could only make reservations to a few and not till 9 pm which was a little too late for big dinner. Otherwise we enjoyed the food. Beach was  [... read more]clean, however it was impossible to get a chair if we got to the beach after 8:30 AM ! This resort needs more beach chairs. Our room had a broken sliding door, and in the bath tub a broken faucet but it got repaired fairly quickly ( the next day). We were not able to lock our patio door, but we did not worry about it that much since we stayed on the second floor. All these things would be nice in good working condition. Our shampoo and body wash did not get refilled unless we asked the housekeeping ( we left the tips every day:) This resort was supposed to be 5 star but unfortunately we would not give it 5 stars. Overall, it is fairly large and nice resort but we do not think we would go there again.

Sol Turquesa Beach: not recommended

Just got back, too many stairs, so no good for elderly, or young children, we were told that property just got purchased by new owners, so property is not up to par. I do not recommend right now.... lacking in Food, "not the taste" the lack of food, buffet should be plenty everywhere, at this hotel, the wait to serve yourself was insane...only 3 stations. I have been to Cuba, and never disappointed...

Playa Costa Verde: Fourth visit to this resort. I still find it the best value.

Having stayed at several resorts in Cuba, I find Playa Costa Verde to be the best value. Excellent service, friendly staff, relatively quiet resort, snorkeling straight from the beach. The lagoon near the beach is a nice touch of nature with numerous species of birds. If you want a high end resort, I recommend nearby Paradius De Oro. Tip: For fast and attentive service, try getting your drinks in the evening at the Cigar Lounge.

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: Great resort, fantastic people, excellent beach.

This is our second visit in five years. The grounds are well maintained. The beach is excellent with ample room, facilities and towel exchange. The staff are excellent, very gracious, attentive, helpful, accommodating and for the most part very hospitable. We never felt that we were simply a tourist with a dollar sign. The food was good with plenty of variety. New salad bar and Espresso bar are welcome additions! Incredible talent! The main "cafeteria" could use some "ventilation" improvements. Often smoky, sitting outside on the "patio potion" was a welcome alternative. The rooms are very tired and in dire need for some refurbishment. This is the only negative detail of the resort. Pricing of the resort for this time of the year seemed excessive, as was the case for all locations over the Post Christmas-New Year's time frame.

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: Great resort

This was our 13 th visit to Luna L Mars hotel. We have never had a bad experience at this hotel. The food is excellent with good verify at buffet and a la carte restaurants. The Management and staff are very friendly and professional. You have the best of two hotels luna and Mares, pools, bars, resturants and entertainment. We have stayed at many four and five star hotels in Cuba and Sol Rio de Luna Y Mars is our favorite for pleaser and at a very reasonable price.

Playa Costa Verde: Good value for your money

An older small resort. Nice grounds. Helpful front desk. Beach area is not wide but plenty of chairs and umbrellas. Lots oif water sports nice pool areas. Nice front lobby area with lots of tables and chairs and 24 hour bar with an excellent coffee machine . Japanese restaurant is wonderful. Otherwise the buffet has lots of choice. Cuban restaurant js right off beach and is open at lunch . Rooms are very basic but water pressure is good.

Brisas Covarrubias: So relaxing with amazing ocean views from the room!

The resort is a smaller, less busy, very relaxing resort. Being older adults we appreciated the quiet, less crowded and noisy resort. The beach and ocean views from the oceanview rooms are the best we've ever experienced. The buffet offers freshly grilled meats every night as well as an omelet bar (breakfast) and spaghetti bar (lunch/supper) which were nice options. At times the locals seemed to be a bit overbearing with bringing their own music to the pool or not waiting their turn in a food line.The 5 bar options were very enjoyable. The wine at the Rancheron-beach bar/restaurant had the best, whereas I'd recommend only ordering the white at the buffet, if wine is your beverage of choice. Take time to book your a la carte restaurant dinner. The public relations staff is only there until 11:30 am and she is in and out during that time, so take time to wait. The dinner and entertainment is fabulous. We had a seafood meal, which they rotate with two other types of dinners: American & Cuban, throughout the week. The mosquitoes weren't bad but they were there a couple days. Just bring your bug spray and bite ointment, just in case. Although the drive was 1.75 hrs, you certainly gained an in-site to the communities and life of the cuban people. Having an English speaking driver/guide would have made the drive a very educational excursion. The staff was very friendly. I found there were quite a few return couples and young families due to their relaxing, less stressful atmosphere. The resort really took time to show appreciation to their guests, especially their return guests with a special a la carte dinner and other perks, which we hope to enjoy with our next visit.

Playa Pesquero: Very Large Beautiful Hotel

Playa Pesquero Hotel, it is a lovely, resort, great for family and singles, doesn’t matter, all kinds of activities for young and old, the kids had a great time. The choice of restaurants were numerous, just book in advance, and remember to bring slacks for dining out. It’s a half day trip for young  [... read more]and old, very magical. Then for the older kids a catarmaran (all day excursion) with dancing and snorkeling at two different locations, wonderful. Your choice of beach or pool. This year has been quite wet with the hurricane season in the fall, rain at night and standing water, so we had a lot of sand fleas, small mosquitos and no seeums. So bring lots of after bite, and my preference Benadryl spray for bites, Off etc. The bites can drive you just a bit crazy. Drink only bottled water, the resort does provide bottled water.

Playa Pesquero: Really enjoyable place

Playa Pesquero in Holguin provides the environment for a beautiful holiday for young and older alike. We ranged in age from 7-70 years. Many positives: Lush white sand on a crystal clear beach with snorkelling, catamarans and kayaking included. Saw really cool fish right off the beach and had a guided tour of the bay in a catamaran. We really felt that the food was quite good with many options for the pickiest of eaters. Loved the Mohijto bar for lunch, La Pipa Beergarden and the ice-cream stand. The buffets were decent and ample. Only had two a la carte restaurants, the Italian one (La Gondola) which had great service and food. The Grill restaurant had good food (my daughter loved the grilled chicken) but it took far to long for dinner (2.5 hours) so the kids were too hungry and tired to make it worthwhile. The rooms were spacious,clean and the beds were relatively comfortable. The mini-bar was always refilled with water, pop and beer as required. The pools were huge so even if the hotel was full, you could find a quieter, shady place with the kids if you so desired. Only used the kids club for one afternoon but I felt I could trust the staff and my daughter had fun. She also enjoyed the kids show in the early evening in the big theatre. What I caught of the adult geared shows were somewhat cheesy and lack lustre but I think that it just wasn't my thing. Between us we went on three tours which we all found highly enjoyable in their own right. The trip to the farm was interesting and eye opening for what Cuban life is like and we loved swimming with the dolphin, especially because we went on a day that wasn't busy. The lobby was usually packed with people so sometimes hard to find a place but not entirely impossible to socialize and play cards with some impromptu entertainment at times. My daughter had to visit a doctor when we were there and service was quick, thorough and professional. One of my criticisms would be that people would just park their towels for what seemed like for days on the chairs at the beach but be no where to be found so it was difficult to find a chair or shade. That's more of a criticism of the guests than the hotel. We didn't really participate in activities at the hotel so I can't comment on them other than to say that I saw some people doing aqua fit at the beach and it looked like fun. Some words of advice though. If you have mobility issues Playa Pesquero is not for you. I love walking so it's not a problem but the grounds albeit gorgeous are expansive so everything can be a trek. Also, the airport is a zoo. I recommend buying the VIP package to use the VIP lounge at the airport and get priority check in. Well worth the money. It didn't hurt that during our stay the weather was lovely and you can't put a price on that.

Playa Pesquero: Good

This was as expected. Very large so a lot of walk. Food was okay, I could always find something to eat. Breach was nice. Pools were good. Rooms are quite run down, but as long as you don’t plan on spending a lot of time in them you will be fine.

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: Resort was amazing 15 years ago not any more need general "face lift"

I have been so many times but, I Know for sure i will never go back to Luna&Mares Specially will never use sun wing as a carrier, very poor service never on time,wait 3 h for suitcases,horrible specially in the middle of the night.

Rooms were large and clean but old. We had issues with the electricity in our room and it also went out a couple times over the resort while we were there. We were able to switch rooms the second day but we had to visit front desk numerous times before they agreed to move us. Pools were nice for kids with shallow areas in the main pool so we didn't have to hang out at the kids pool all week. Definitely lots of missing tiles in the pool which I had read in the other reviews. They were making some [... read more] repairs while we were there but had lots of tiles to replace. Food was fine, its Cuba! But they didn't have orange juice for breakfast all week. The water to our room smelled really bad if you ran the tap. We think they were serving tap water at buffet and made coffee with same water. I usually love the coffee but couldn't drink it all week because, to me, it tasted the same as it smelt running the water in our room. My youngest (3 yrs) was ill the second night we got there and through most of the trip. I think it was the water from the buffet. But we tipped the guy who delivered water to the buildings for the maids and he gave us cases of water. So we brought bottles with us everywhere the rest of the trip. I didn't care for the beach. Definitely had better vacations at other Cuban resorts.

Playa Pesquero: Fantastic family friendly resort

We visited during the Christmas break and truly enjoyed the experience. The resort is large and thus we never felt like it was over crowded. It waas easy to find a place by the pool or the beach. Very clean with spacious rooms. Staff were a highlight and great with our kids. Food was better than expected with a really nice spread on new years eve. We would be happy to visit the resort again.

Playa Costa Verde: Pretty Good

This resort offered good food and a friendly wait staff. The room was very clean and was looked after daily. The beach was okay as there is a lot of coral that you need to swim/walk over before getting to the san of the beach. It was still good. there was no problem getting beach chairs and the beach was never packed. I wouldn't return simply for the fact that I always change resorts for variety.

Playa Pesquero: Playa Pesquero

We had a great time here for a week. Weather was great, rooms good, food abundant with good selection and variety. Facilities and amenities all good except internet which is limited and not free. Staff friendly and helpful and most had adequate English that communication not a problem

Playa Costa Verde: Great vacation

This was our tenth time back to P.V.C., we have seen many upgrades to the resort. Rooms have been refreshed, new mattresses. The grounds are still well taken care of. Upgrades to the Lobby bar, and pool bar. The buffet is still very good, some days could be better. Always something to eat, sometimes you have to stand in line at the cooking stations but well worth the wait. Recommend water shoes for entering the ocean, sand from storms have exposed coral. Playa Pesquero: Playa Pequero

This is our 11th visit to Playa Pesquero. We love it there. The people are friendly and accommodations are wonderful. The excursions are a great time to meet and mingle with people. We took the catarmaran, lobster lunch and swimming with the dolphins tour and also took the Holguin tour. A great time!
