Occidental Costa Cancun: Stay at Occidental Costa Cancun

Just stayed at the Occidental Costa Cancun, and had a good time. It’s a very small resort, the rooms, pool, restaurants, and beach are all in a small area. The pool was nice, lots of chairs available. The food was so-so, nothing special there. You could only make reservations for a la carts in the mornings, getting into the Italian was a pain, with a huge line-up at 7am to get in for dinner. The beach was nice, if small, with lots of water traffic in front of the resort and a small area where  [... read more]swimming was allowed. No snorkelling at the resort. The ferry over to Isla Mujeres was right at the resort, as well as the Jolly Roger pirate ship excursion which was convenient. Lots of seaweed on the beach, even though they rake it every morning there was always seaweed at the water line. No free wifi, you have to pay to use it and it’s not good at all, always cutting in and out and the prices for everything seem to change day to day. The rooms were okay, clean but nothing special. The air conditioning in my room was turned off when I got there, didn’t have it for a few days until I called. When they actually turned it on it was leaking but worked. Daily shows by the pool and always entertainment at night. Wouldn’t go back but didn’t have a horrible time. Still enjoyed the sunshine and relaxation at the beach or pool.

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Fab resort

All areas were fantastic........except our room! It was in need of a makeover,so we spent another $2300.00CAD to upgrade to the Premier section The new room was great. We would have had a depressing stay had we stayed in the first room allotted. The resort was great. All staff were very helpful. I would recommend to a friend with the caveat that they book Premier as the regular class of rooms just don’t fit the bill for an expensive holiday.

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Barcelo Beach resort

Very good overall--excellent maintenance on grounds, pools, beach. Food very good, coffee a bit of burnt taste. Many staff have very limited English skills, but most friendly and make attempts to communicate. Room very good in all features except floor cleaning--always grit left as if floor was not swept. Dirt on floor in corners, under desk, etc. Otherwise well cleaned daily.

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: What no Corona extra

The Hotel is very beautiful The Lagoon needs major help it stinks and they were working on it all the time The beach salt water pool was closed just about every day and they were running the compressor while they were working on it We loved the grounds and the Pools The Rooms were big and clean The Restaurants were amazing Beautify presented Plates and great food Well done The Grill was our favourite We pretty much skipped the Buffet not good The food there was cold We went to the beach buffet  [... read more]for Breakfast We also enjoyed the Snack Bar They had chicken wings Only part of the time we could get a Corona Extra

Barcelo Huatulco: Great Vacation

This is a great hotel resort. Staff were wonderful and caring. Made sure all our needs were looked after. Unfortunately there was never enough beach loungers with shade. Seems one would have to get up at 6am and head to the beach in order to secure a shady area. Even placing portable Beach Umbrellas would work. Pool was very nice. We enjoyed the smaller resort atmosphere. Overall, great vacation.

Occidental Cozumel: Beautiful Resort

We were a little apprehensive when reading some of the reviews about the timeshare and the food, but found we didn't need to be. First off the timeshare people don't harass you, just say no and they will not bother you. The food was very good. You will not go hungry at all. We ate at the Seafood, Mediterranean and the Mexican ala cartes and they were all delicious. The buffet could be a bit better but we never went hungry. The rooms are very nice, comfortable and clean with a large washroom, we never had an issue with water, towels or the cleaning staff. The fridge was restocked daily. The gardeners and cleaners all always busy. It really was a great stay and we would definitely go back. This is our 4th stay on Cozumel and this is the first resort that I have said I'd go back to. ALL the staff were super friendly and helpful. The only negative is there is no free Wi-Fi.

Barcelo Huatulco: Fun and games

Set your alarm to watch the amazing sun rise. Down to grab your towel to claim your spot in an already sea of cranberry towels. Grab a cafe and sweet in lobby. Don't forget your book as you join the crowd forming at guest services to make dinner reservations. Be patient amigos the bar opens at 10. These are the games they don't tell you about. Not FUN. If you can fix these issues I will definitely be back

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: large resort in a jungle setting

We arrived at the Occidental in the late evening, they gave us a quick overview and a map of the resort. The resort shuttled us to our building where our room was. Our room was a very nice room, but damp and moldy. If you want to watch tv, good luck as it was hit and miss everyday whether there was reception and my partner wanted to watch the superbowl. We got tv on the last 10 seconds of the game. The first morning we had to find our way through a maze of trails to the buffet on the beach. The [... read more] food was limited and cold, but very tasty. We found the lobby buffet for lunch through the maze of trails and pathways. The buffet was amazing for lunch and dinner. The lunch buffet at the pool is also very tasty and a great variety. There are no signs to help you find your way around saying which way was what so you are always asking for assistance. This is a very large resort area. It took 3 days to figure out which way to go to find our way around. The resort is beautiful with all the wildlife and beautiful plants throughout. The resort is shared with monkeys, birds and land creatures. There are signs telling you not to feed the animals, but no information of what these animals are. Many people were confused on which way to go to find the buildings and where everything was located. Signage would help not to waste time to help find your way around. We got moved from the first floor to the third. I went outside on the balcony, closed the door and realized I was locked out. I lifted the patio door and was released from the balcony as there was no one to help get me back into the room. So the sliding doors are not break in proof. Dont close the patio door if you go out on the balcony. The staff, food and resort is amazing. There is an area near the lobby with a few $$ shops on, so you dont need to leave the resort unless you need anything from a pharmacy. A small pharmacy would be of assistance for sure. As I said the food is amazing and there is no waiting. The steak house, chinese and mexican restraunt is very nice with a limited menu. The menus dont change so you know what to expect each day. A lot of walking though. The resort is clean and the staff works very hard to keep it that way. The staff is very friendly and there is a lot of staff asking you to go on the tour to join their resort club, dont bother wasting your time to get the free bottle of tequila. The resort has daily activities and nightly entertainment. We had fun joining in on the activities around the fantastic pool area and the nitely entertainment is very good, we made a lot of friends. Most of the guests are middle age. It is a quiet, respectful resort with no drunk unruly guests. The area near the ocean is quite a walk from nearly all the rooms. The beach club is quiet in the lagoon and another small walk takes you to the ocean. The area at the ocean is not for swimming. There are rocks and a strong current. Old mayan ruins are still on site and it is very picturesque. Would I recommend the Occidental at Xcaret? If the price is right .... possibly now that we know our way around.

Occidental Punta Cana: Beautiful Grounds

This resort is beautiful! The grounds and pool are very well maintained. Entertainment in the stage is very good but not much for entertainment in the main lobby bar. Food selection was not great but not too bad. Our biggest complaint would be water in the bathroom for showering. In the afternoon there was little to zero water ... seemed to be a regular occurrence. Overall, I'd rate this hotel a 4.0 / 5.0

Occidental Tucancun: Great Place, Fantastic Staff!

From check in to getting introduced to the resort then having freedom to be as slow or busy as we wanted, it was great. The lobby bar in the evening was manned by Alex Palma, a very happy and efficient bartender who strives to make folks happy and relaxed. The restaurants food selection was great, my wife thoroughly enjoyed the Italian restaurant with its made on the spot pasta selections. Wait staff: Erick Xeque and Eulalia Torres were outstanding amongst a top notch crew of wait staff in all [... read more] venues. Everybody did their utmost to ensure you were looked after. The hardest folks to name are the maids. You never really get to meet them but they do great work and deserve many thanks for making our sanctuary clean and comfortable. This is an annual trek to the Caribbean for us and the first time here, we will be back.

Occidental Punta Cana: Good Resort

We were happy with the room, pool and beach. We asked for the phone to be connected but it never happened. We drink diet coke and it had limited availability. Our friends had questionable service from their section (11) concierge but section 22 for us, the young man was very accommodating. Overall we enjoyed ourselves.

Palma Real: Amazing hotel

Great location , great service, spacious rooms. Very flose to the beach. Food was good, lotscof options availablem The A la carte Itqlian restaurant La Piazza offered great menu. We tried Lasagne qland fish filet both excellent.

Palma Real: Not amazing resort

We were at this resort 2 years ago, and since then they have had a hurricane. There is a lot of mold damage in the rooms. It made some of us sick. It was on the walls, and the curtains, and came out of the AC. The water in the bathroom is a hit or miss if you get water, and if it is hot or cold. 3 days I had no hot water, and 1 day no water in the morning. by late afternoon there was hot water or warm water. The common bathrooms were a problem too. No toilet paper or paper towels. the t [... read more]oilet in building 1 backed up, and there was a lot of water on the floor. It didn’t get cleaned till the next day. On the positive side, there are lots of pools to sit around or swim, There was plenty of choices of food. The staff were nice. The entertainment was good.

Palma Real: Awesome food

I thought the resort had huge potential. Food was great for Cuba. The brach house lacked staffing. Waited for service way too long. My biggest disappointment was the fact that i was in a resort full of french canadians and it really did not allow me to feel comfortable to socialize.

Barcelo Gran Faro Los Cabos: Average

We found that this resort is just an average resort. Clean, but very dated. Staff was friendly enough and tended to our needs. Bed was horrible, sloped with springs poking you. Any issues we had upon arrival were tended to in a timely manner. Food was good, with a lot variety. Snack bar was in need of quality control. We had chicken wings with feathers still on them. Was going to send picture but not sure where to post it. In general it was at best okay!

Palma Real: Wanted to leave the day we arrived....

The only thing that was good about this resort is the location since its close to the main street in Varadero. I've travelled quite a bit in Cuba, Dominican, Mexico and I'm not the type to complain but this hotel was BAD. The food was disgusting and everyone on the resort got sick. The beds and pillows are stained with pee and blood. Guests that were leaving were running at their airport shuttle screaming "hell is finally over". Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Awesome Resort!

The Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe is amazing! My adult children and I stayed in the junior suite oceanfront room..fabulous! I especially loved the outdoor jacuzzi with oceanfront view. The grounds we’re immaculate. A really nice touch is the relaxing music playing throughout the day from “rock shaped”speakers along the path. The beach was kept clean, chairs in good condition. Beach volleyball and dancing if you wanted. Lots of water activities. My family and I loved the mini golf and bowlin [... read more]g. The evening shows were amazing. Lots of great food, we especially loved the Japanese a la carte. Lots of shops from decent price to the more expensive. The bus pick ups for excursions were always on time and good fun. We enjoyed swimming in the pool and the ocean. We enjoyed room service a couple of times. Our room was kept clean and the turn down service was a nice touch. Friendly and helpful staff. Definitely choose premium level. We would absolutely come here again.

Occidental Caribe: Service sucked

The service sucked at this hotel... I've been to 3 star hotels that have better staff and service then this hotel. Also the afternoon events were lacking ...no bingo and Zumba dancing. I would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone and I will not be returning there.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Perfect location - would recommend this hotel again

I recently went by myself to this resort as a last minute gift to myself. I booked 12hrs before taking off :) I was on a restricted budget but knew I wanted a 4 star resort. I really enjoyed my stay here. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The pool is big and cleaned every morning. The beach was great and groomed as well... The rooms are dated but totally functional and I appreciated having English TV in my room and a patio overlooking the ocean. What I appreciated the most was that I felt safe there - as a woman travelling alone, I was never treated inappropriately by any of the staff, and I soon befriended the waiter working on the beach who always made sure I had a drink (or two) in my hand :) The food is good - I enjoyed my meals there even with the limited selection. I always went to the grill for fresh meat, fish and good egg omelets in the morning. One of the definite perks is in its location in Varadero. The weather was not great during my visit but being able to walk around Varadero definitely helped me get through the rainy overcast days. The city is friendly and once again, I never felt unsafe being alone. I would definitely would go back to this resort and would recommend it.
