Resonance Blu Varadero: Second time and the last time.
I was here 3 years ago and nothing has changed. But the price. I didn't have an issue with the food. I ate mainly at the foood stations. The bed wasn't t an issue. The staff were great. No one was bothering me for trips. I left my housekeeper something everyday.
There doesn't seem to have any money invested into the resort. Some lights in the staircases were out or missing all together. Som psthjways were porphyry light.
I paid for the Diamond Club upgrade and was given everything I sa[... read more]id I would get. But the extra i paid this year, i don think it was worth it.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Great Resort
First time in Cayo Coco and I loved it. The beach was absolutely amazing and lots of loungers no matter what time you went down at. The pools well were pools same thing lots of loungers. The grounds were kept very clean and the washrooms as well. The food had to be one of the best I have had so far in Cuba and I have been to Cuba 4 times. Rooms well they were kept clean and our maid Sonia did a great job. We did a Jeep on tour which I thought was just loads of fun and the best bang for you[... read more]r buck. Drinks were good and overall the resort was nice. Like some of the other reviews did not find and bed bugs or sand flees. Overall had a great relaxing time in Cayo Coco.

Grand Memories Varadero: Big time== mixed feelings
I visited Grand Memories from the 08 Apr to the 15th Apr'17. After we got through all the congestion in the main Lobby we checked in at the Diamond club desk. Rooms were not ready as our flight was early. We did a tour around then went for lunch in the main dining area. This area was also very crowded and noisy with people trying to get their meal. This is a large as well as and old resort. The facility is in bad need of a face lift, repairs and a good cleaning. When we got our rooms later in t[... read more]he pm part of our party had to request a different room as theirs smelt like sewer. My room did not smell bad but the dresser doors were damaged, the toilet was not secure to the floor and the door was just plain dirty. The swimming pools were not maintained very well and the standing water in the decorative water ways around the grounds were very dirty. I feel that I payed the Diamond Club price but I did not see what the advantage was for this. I payed ($1565.00) for my week which was far too much. On a positive note we had a great little maid that looked after us and we fresh linens to use each day, the la a carte meals were good, the entertainment was fair and the weather was beautiful.

Grand Memories Santa Maria: Great Resort...Great people
Memories Sanctuary resort
Check in at arrival was effortless well prepared on resort staff end
Grounds, pool, gardens and walk ways all very nicely kept and clean
Beach was stunning and a major draw for all
Room and building #60 was perfect and the staff were great especially Leon and Carlo our building managers
Also a big thanks to Yarisdy(spelling?) our room chambermaid who also made sure we were comfortable each day.
If someone forced me to find a negative point to the resort, th[... read more]e only one thing was the holding and pre booking of Cabanas for hours upon hours with no one using them . Guests paying beach and pool staff to hold theses cabanas while others (me) baked in the scorching sun and only to be asked to not use a cabana cause it was being held for someone.
All other aspects of the resort are great and will be better with stronger WiFi in the future and ATM bank machines

Sol Turquesa Beach: Our 2nd time at Memories
We flew to Holguin with Cubana Airlines. The flight departed on time to Cuba, and arrived back in Toronto on time, no waiting or delays, very efficient. The in-flight light lunch was nothing to write home about, so bring your own snacks for the flight. Memories resort is very beautiful, being built on a hill, the views are stunning. The pools are built on the actual hill which is spectacular. We've been to many resorts in Cuba, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, and this resort tops most with s[... read more]cenic beauty. The beach has nice white sand, the water turquoise, but shallow for about a 100m. Nothing to see while snorkelling, you'll have to arrange to be taken to a snorkelling or Scuba site, which is a 10min cab ride. The food was fresh and healthy. Don't expect T-bone steaks and lobster in the buffet. Fresh fish, chicken, pork and some beef dishes are your meats, along with fresh vegetables and fruits. A variety of cheeses and pasta dishes are also available. Steak, lobster and shrimp skewers are available at an additional cost. My teenage boys enjoyed the disco while I enjoyed the cigar lounge with the friendly staff and other vacationers.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Great value, great beach!
The resort is huge, the food options plentiful and very good. You hear about the food in Cuba as being less than desirable, but here the food really is tasty, and you can be sure that all ages will find things they like.
The pools are fabulous, the beach is extraordinary.
This resort stands out for it's service and people. They are amazing. The shows are worth paying for, but they're all included!
The rooms are not so fabulous. They are clean, but plumbing is an issue. Check your room out a[... read more]nd insist on a room change if the plumbing doesn't work well or if any minor thing is broken (toilet paper holder hanging off wall, etc).
Some of these things are in the hotels power to fix and maintain and they to be held accountable to do so.
Some other things, like plumbing that works but not well, is out of their control. Remember where you are, Cuba struggles to provide what we find minimum standards. Reset your expectations and settle for clean and working rather than clean and perfect.
You will find that the only thing this resort can't offer is great plumbing. Everything else is there and more than makes up for it.
You will enjoy this resort.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Good Resort
We enjoyed our week in Varadero at the Sanctuary at Grand Memories. The resort was clean, for the most part, but we did have some issues with our room - the stand-up shower drained so slowly that if you tried to use it, you flooded the bathroom and hallway - this was how we started morning one. Luckily there is a shower in the large soaker tub we used for the remainder of the week. The food was quite good, especially the Gala dinner. We also enjoyed the Asian and Gourmet restaurants on the GM si[... read more]de. We went to the buffet on the GM side once - dirty tables set with clean cutlery, missing tongs/spoons to pick up food, cold food, etc. Breakfast at the Sanctuary restaurant was YUMMY, although sometimes slow. Once suggestion - they need more shade available at the pool especially. The towel game was nasty - if you wanted a palapa in the Sanctuary section at the beach, or shade at the pool you had to be there before 7 am to mark it with your towels. We had Diamond Club and enjoyed top shelf liquor, 1 hr free wifi per day, and the poolside dinner. Our butler Hannoy was great. The room could have been much cleaner and bottled water was not always easy to get - we often didn't get the 2L/day as promised. My guess is this was an "off" week as many reviews for this place are fantastic. We likely won't return, but only because we like to visit different places in our travels.

Resonance Blu Varadero: 1st time to Cuba
This was our first time to Cuba.
Resort:
Nice well kept landscaping at the resort. Lots of flowers and trees. Don't book this resort if you are not able to walk long distance. Our room was close the beach and it took us close to 6min to get to the Lobby/Restaurant area.
Pools/Beach:
We did not use the pools, for simple fact we are not pool people. We however did go to the beach many times. The beach was absolutely beautiful and was always clean. There are plenty of lounge chairst. Ther[... read more]e is beach volleyball and dancing on the beach everyday. If you want to relax and don't want any noise, it is easy enough to go to the farther side of the beach and no one will bother you.
Room:
We stayed in 31 building and on ground floor. Our room was clean and no smell at all. Bathroom was nicely modern and updated with a great hot shower at any time of the day. Unfortunately the shower curtain was missing so the floor got wet every time we showered. The beds were ok. We had a king bed with a cot in there. The bed was hard, but still manageable.
Food:
As for the buffet we were quite pleased with the selection for Breakfast and Supper. The only drawback are the birds in the dinning room. They fly deep and try to eat with you from your plate. That can create may be some health issuses. From the á la carte restaurants we tried the Cuban and the Italian Restaurant. Both were quite nice and tastefull.
Public Bathrooms :
We really don't understand why there are no locks at the doors, what is the big deal to put a lock on it. Also they need to be better cleaned and they should put a light in it too.
Checkin:
We arrived in the middle of the night. The first impression you get when entering the lobby is the noise level. It was so loud we could not understand a word. So it was very tricky to get the right information about your room and all the other things.
Check out:
Was easy and conviniend. Having to check out at noon was not a big deal. You can leave your bags in that room off to the side. The only drawback was to take a shower at the spa that day. There were no extra towels, the shower had only cold water, there were no shampoo and shower gel bottles and no fans.
Entertainment:
The entertainment was great. There was a different show every night at the theater. The music from the live bands were great too.
Staff:
You can tell some are happy and some just are not ( or maybe it very well could be a language barrier) but you get that at any job.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Great family vacation
The beach was nice, food and drinks were good and service was amazing. The hotel is a good size, no bungalow is too far away from anything but it isn't too small. The staff work very hard to keep the rooms and grounds clean, and keep you happy. Great place to stay for families.

Grand Memories Varadero: Not recommended
The hotel needed some upgrading. No coffee makers in the room. If you had a coffee maker, you were told you needed to bring your own coffee. ran out of stuff all the time. One of the pools was half closed for over 3 days. The wait staff were unpleasant and you had to wait for any kind of service in the restaurants. The bar staff were pretty pleasant most of the time. Beach was beautiful.

Grand Memories Santa Maria: Grand Memories Santa Maria Awesome Resort
I read a lot of reviews before booking our trip to Grand Memories,Santa Maria. I want to thank Jenn Black from Tripcentral she answered all my questions and made my booking very easy.
So upon getting to Grand Memories with very low expectations, we were greeted by an adorable Concierge by the name of Luis Milian, He was very professional and welcoming. He took us to our room and what a surprise the room was beautiful, he made sure our room was cool and clean. We had the Pool View(Should have b[... read more]ooked the Ocean View)
Our maid was Aleida and she was wonderful, she left us a swan made out of Blankets and fresh flowers everyday(I left her some gifts as well) The bar on the beach was ultimately the BEST Lisandra the bartender was so sweet I couldn't get enough of her, she made me laugh everyday!!!!!!!! We met so many new friends there it was unreal, the hour and 30 minute bus ride was a killer, but the drinks made up for it when we arrived at the hotel. The A La Carte dinners were good, the Buffet was very bland and seemed to be the same food everyday- I kinda starved because I didn't like the taste of the food!!!!
*******On a side note---Don't forget Peanut Butter, Jam and Hot sauce. OH AND SPF 60 yes 60 the Sun is sooo strong I burnt severely on the first full day and had to go to the Clinic..*******The pool is Beautiful and the Entertainment around the Pool was Awesome big shout out to Yanet.
We are already planning next years vacation and will be at the Grand Memories Santa Maria & will be booking with Jenn Black again...
The only downfall with the trip was it was too short, we will go for 10 days next year.
Manager Estaban was a total sweetheart!!!! Luis Milian was too!!!! My favorite person there was Lisandra Beach Bar- Cant wait to go back and see her !!!!!!!!!
The People that work at this resort are so sweet and welcoming, they should be congratulated !!!!!

Grand Memories Varadero: Not the Cleanest !!!
Was at this resort when it was the RIU it was great, not so much now. Did the upgrade to Diamond Club which I was very disappointed in and don't feel like we received much for the extra $. Our first room had a very Septic type odor it was gross especially where we paid to have SUPERIOR ROOMS HAHA. 2 rooms later and half the day wasted we got a room that didn't smell too bad. Our friends that we met there paid for Superior Room only no Diamond Club and their room was fine. TV didn't work no c[... read more]offee maker (which is a huge thing for me), toilet didn't flush half the time, hair dryer didn't work, phone didn't work, took a few more days to get everything fixed. Food was normal CUBA food, buffet was cold most of the time. The grounds were pretty good, but the Pool however was not cleaned, I specifically watched all week as our room overlooked the pool. Drinks were still sitting in the same place from the day before not cleaned up. One night the Resort had a Beach Party that could be heard in a large portion of the resort where the rooms were went well past midnight no sleep that night. The beach was nice, and the Al A Cartes were not bad. We made the best of it but was very disappointed in the quality of the Grand Memories, and especially where we paid for Diamond Club was a complete waste of $. A lot of the people we spoke with all felt the same way were very disappointed.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Amazing beach!
This was our first trip to Cuba. We are a family of 5- kids are 12,10,8.
We did a lot of research as we were nervous about the food and some of the inconsistencies we had heard when visiting Cuba. Flying into Cayo Coco was good. The best part was 20 mins to the hotel. Check in was good and my requests ahead of time via Facebook were accommodated. The grounds were nice it was dry so it took its toll on the grass but that's the weather! Some observations was that there was occasional debris aroun[... read more]d the back of building or fence lines but not a major issue just casual observance. The pool area was great lots of chairs coming early (by 9:00) helps to secure spots. Most beautiful beach I have ever seen. Lots of cabanas and chairs. Apparently more are being added- for additional shade. The walk to the point is well worth it! Beautiful view and secluded. Night entertainment was very good! Michal Jackson show a must but I thought they were all good. We are mostly at the buffet. If you like something eat it that day! It's not always available as is the way for an island. Smoothies and omelets in the am, steak chicken or pizza for lunch. Have some made to order pasta for supper. Want to add more to the grill? Get it from the buffet and they'll add it! Very humble grateful people. Lobby bar made excellent espresso, lattes and capucinos add some baileys or Cuban equivalent for a kick! Live music, prelude to the show in the afternoon to raise excitement. Ate at the Cuban restaurant but preferred the variety of the buffet. The snack bar made some pizza almost daily and offered sit down options and some take away items from the chaffing dishes. Great if you want a quick bite. They had ketchup but not at every meal. We brought toilet paper, peanuts butter and our own ketchup. Lots of ice cream. Room was clean, service was good. There's not abundant amount of extra beer and pop for fridge but adequate. We brought our own inexpensive towels and just left behind. You can use hotel room towels but we didn't want to misplace them. We did horseback riding along the beach for 45 minutes for 10 CUCs about $13.00. A great time spent. I think if you can go with the flow, be flexible and understand everything isn't always shiny but it is clean, you'll be well suited for Cuba. It's a family resort so if you want some day time swimming and a little night entertainment this is a great spot. The people were kind and very hospitable. Such a beautiful place!
