Riu Palace Mexico: brilliant hotel

could do with elevators at the pool side area up to the rooms as there are a lot of older people who struggle up the stairs and more toilets especially near beach its a long walk to the dining room washroom

Hyatt Vivid Playa Del Carmen: Great resort!!

I would definitely go to this resort again. It is very nice. The food is good, and it's so close to fifth avenue.You can go walk the strip every night if you wanted to. The only thing I didn't like is everything shuts down a bit early at the hotel.

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Fantastic resort, best we’ve had in 6 years of visiting Mexico.

There’s a lot to say about the Barcelo maya beach. We booked early to save price as we are also going to Asia for 2 weeks in August (Taiwan) . The resort was great from the reception desk onwards, check in was quick with friendly staff, no issues checking in, room was in the Uxmul building which is perfect for being central to everything, we were in room 3319 facing the Barcelo maya Caribe. Staff are amazing and always upbeat, there’s no pool music booming all day like the resort next door to us providing the option to do both. We have 4 resorts where we have full access to visit, drink and eat at all 4. Smoking on the property is fine, there are ashtrays all over the grounds and an ashtray on your balcony or patio. Buffet servers were fantastic ,we had 2 that stood out, Joel Rodriquez for breakfast, and Armando Reyes for dinner, both were amazing.

Hotel was overall great. Room and hotel very clean, good supply of towels. Room service awesome, daily stock of mini fridge and if you wanted more we just called and they brought to you. Room service food was poor always cold and little choices. Didn’t like the hassal of trying to convince us to upgrade and become prime members. Spa services were good. Many restaurant choices at this resort the drawback was not being able to get reservations when you wanted. Beach is not good, too much seaweed o [... read more]n beach even though they cleaned up by mid morning was just the same. Very windy area. Food choices at buffet was excellent, a lot of variety and quality was good. Staff very nice, entertainment was good. Check-in was great and fast. Did not like checkout was not given enough information the night before. Overall I give it an 8 out of 10.

Paradisus Playa del Carmen: Westjet Vacations to Paradisius Playa del Carmen

Lovely naturally landscaped grounds with many pools and activities for our grandchildren who travelled on a different package. While we concerned at checkin that our different package meant that we couldnt have our meals together, everything worked out well in the end as we did not need the Family Concierge services. Westjet was more problematic, particularly the long waits for luggage and checkin at Cancun airport.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Outstanding resort!

First off, the staff are personable, attentive and work hard to please. The variety of restaurants is excellent. We had no problem booking them online. To no fault of the resort, there was a lot of seaweed on the beach however they had workers raking and removing it daily, as best as they could. We go here every year and it’s not always this bad. The pools are maintained and lovely, We stayed in a premier room and loved the upgrades.

Grand Palladium Colonial: Amazing resort!

The grounds were beautiful the wildlife exciting Staff so friendly and helpful food was great rooms clean and everything works The shows were excellant! Check in was timely. I really liked the bracket and. It having to worry about a key. The bartenders at the adult pool were great!

Grand Palladium Colonial: Absolutely beautiful resort

The rooms were amazing, the food was great something for everyone. The staff were always so friendly and willing to help. Always lots of pool towels. Cute little shops to purchase gifts and great entertainment. Even got to witness 4 weddings. The grounds were very well kept, someone was always busy. Our mini fridge wasn’t working and within hours it had been repaired!

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: First rate

We especially liked the hospitality of the staff. The grounds were extremely well kept. The food was very good. The housekeeping was excellent. The pools were lovely. The beach was a bit of a disappointment. The restroom for the beach was far away for anyone with mobility issues. Overall we had a wonderful week at the Fives.

Akumal Bay Beach and Spa Resort: Always a amazing stay

Fourth time visit to Akumal Bay Beach & Spa resort. Love the beach - is calm and protected. Snorkeling is always good in front of the resort. We like the small size and the proximity to the beach. Food was very good - appreciate you don’t have to book reservations. We will be back again.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Great for nature lovers

This resort is good value for the cost. The grounds are gorgeous, the wildlife is delightful, and the staff are helpful and never pass without saying hello. Our room was modern, everything worked, and it was kept/restocked every day. There is so much to do, that you don't feel the need to do excursions. The beach is not the greatest, but it is sandy and we didn't need to fight for lounge chairs which is refreshing. The pool was very busy, so we avoided it. The nightly shows were a pleasant surprise. We attended them all and enjoyed every one. Food is where this place falls short. You have to set an alarm at midnight to book a la carte meals, or take your chances. The buffet doesn't have multiple stations, so it just becomes a long line. While the food is adequate and you can always find things you like, your potatoes and vegetables are cold by the time you get to the meat. It simply comes down to poor design. My check in/out was at fortunate times, but it was easy to see that with only 2 staff working the desk, bus loads would take substantial time. This resort is not extravagant, but for those who love to wander, explore nature and make the best of things, you can thoroughly enjoy your stay.

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Barcelo Tropical

This resort was beautiful and took care of most of our needs. Staff were very friendly, professional and always helpful. There was always something to do or see on the resort! like the theatre shows which were performed very well and entertaining. The clean up crew for the beach did an amazing job clearing the seaweed daily. We will definitely be back! Ps. The only negative was trying to get lounge chairs for the pool and beach as most were taken very early in the morning. Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Sandos eco resort March break

The resort is beautiful. If you do not have the upgrade to the elite it is VERY challenging to get into an a la cart restaurant. The beach is very rocky in the water but the sand on the beach is soft. There was good availability of chairs on the beach. The food in the buffet was often cold. Unfortunately I did get sick with GI illness 2 days into the trip. The cinnote was close for the duration of time we were there. There was no hot water for the first 4 days in superior family eco room. A pipe [... read more] leaked on our last night and we were moved to a pool side room that we encountered a few cockroaches. The theatre and shows were absolutely incredible. The pools were clean. The water park was amazing for the kids. The room service was great and the bar fridge was stocked every day.

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: Beautiful nature resort

3rd time at Occidental Xcaret. Missing slippers had to ask 3 times to get them and no face cloths in the room on 2 days. Miss the Disney musical show from 2017. Enjoyed the Mayan ruins, nature paths, animals, birds, ocean views, beach and amazing park next door. Circus, Mexican and Mayan shows were great and activities - archery, beach zumba, trivia etc. Staff were always friendly- Hugo omelet chef, Paola, Leo, Santiago, and room housekeepers! Thank you!

Barcelo Maya Riviera: Great resort

Barcelo Maya Riviera is a great resort. Checking in was easy and the room was in great shape with all modern conveniences. There was a bit of a damp smell in the room sometimes but I believe that this has to do with the weather and not the maintenance of the resort. Everything was very clean and the landscaping is beautiful. The food was great at all the à la carte restaurants and this was the nicest buffet I have ever experienced. We had a great time!

El Dorado Seaside Palms: Excellent service , very tropical

Rooms are a little dated so if you’re a princess don’t go. Rooms are very clean and comfortable thought. Over all the grounds are very well kept and staff work daily to insure this. Restaurants with reservations can be tricky because all the bookings start on the Friday for the following week, although if you are a late eater say 900pm most let you in without a reservation. If you love to swim in the Ocean may not be for you lots of see weed every morning but staff work endlessly to clean it and [... read more] water is shallow inside the break wall. Pools are very nice and all have swim up bars. Food was very good but small portions so don’t be shy to order two entrees. I would rate the over all experience a 8/10 and would recommend this resort

El Dorado Seaside Suites: Our best choice!

The view, the rooms, the food, the employees, the atmosphere, everything was perfect! The only things that were less than ideal were the weather, the sargassum, not bringing slippers and small enough peso bills but these are all out the control of the resort.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Fun times at Coba

I just returned from a three family trip with 5 adults and 5 “kids” ranging in age from 13 to 21. We were there from March 16-23 and here is my review. I will start with the bad and move to the good and luckily there are more positives than negatives to report . 1. Check-in. We arrived very late and there were a few families they knew were arriving at midnight and there was only one person at the desk and it was so slow - even without any unique requests it took hours and even though we had  [... read more]called, emailed, had our travel agent reach out regarding linking our reservations together our room was at the opposite end of the resort for our kids and the bed arrangements were all wrong. A bellman dropped everyone off in the rain at 2:00 am with no help to get into the rooms. The next day it took almost the whole day to get one room changed and it was incredibly frustrating. It was such a horrible start to our holiday but luckily service in all other aspects were great. They have to put more staff on at night when they expect a bus full of people to arrive with kids tired and needing to check in and sleep. 2. Food - the buffet had great service, lots of selection and the snack bar was great too when the buffet was closed. It was very hard to book à la cartes and impossible to link reservations across rooms for our family but the ones we did book were terrific. The signage at the buffet was always wrong and things are in weird locations and sometimes they would run out of items early but there was so much variety you could always have a great meal and the wait staff Thomas brought us trays of cappuccinos for breakfast with a huge welcoming smile - so nice! 3. Grounds and pools - Clean, lots of activities, well lit, interesting wildlife and I thought the size of the resort would be a problem but the trolleys run constantly and it’s actually easy and fun to use them to get around. It’s confusing to orient among the different resorts based on maps and not easy to understand what is and isn’t Coba but one adjusts! They kick everyone out of the pools at 6 sharp which might bother some people. I wonder if those hours are longer in the summer months when the sun goes down later. 4. Beach - I was so worried from the reviews that it was small and rocky or choked with seaweed and this was a pleasant surprise because the snorkeling off the beach was the best I have ever seen in Mexico. We could always find loungers and there was both towel and bar service at the beach and convenient bathrooms nearby. It might not have been as beautiful as some beaches in the area and you needed a trolley to get there but we loved it. Bring snorkel gear and water shoes and you will not believe your eyes! Schools of fish, coral, rays and gorgeous tropical fish - far better than excursions I have paid for in the past. We may return just for the snorkeling! 5. Entertainment was a bit quiet for our older kids but they loved it all the same and enjoyed paying 10$ extra to visit the nightclub next door at the adults only. There was certainly no need to upgrade to a better bracelet to access the other resorts in the complex. We didn’t have little ones but the ones we saw seemed so happy. Karaoke was fun and the kids liked the option to play pool and use the arcade (extra $ though) 6. Rooms smelled a bit musty when we arrived but we brought dryer sheets and misted them with essential oil and once the AC came on it was all fine. The rooms are dated but large and comfy and the hot water and shower pressure was great. I know some people found the beds too firm but not us and the wifi was strong and reliable so we could work a bit. 7. While normally I prefer a smaller beachfront resort this place was ideal for our huge group with different needs and I was pleasantly surprised once I was done dealing with the front desk!
