Location and resort facilities top notch. Food and variety of food options suited everyone in our group. Staff very pleasant and helpful. The rooms and service was excellent. We would return to this resort.

Bahia Principe Explore Tulum: Bahia Principe Grand Tulum - Great Spot, 4 Stars
My family enjoyed a one-week vacation over New Years 2025/26. Overall, the hotel, service level, and grounds/beach/pool are very good.
Pros:
The beach is fantastic. It is a nice strip of beach several hundred meters long that is all walkable. There is a bar/restaurant along with many rentals along the strip.
Snorkeling and SUP boarding was common there (bring your own equipment). The snorkeling from shore was very good with lots of marine life to see (fish, rays).
Our room was only 50 me[... read more]ters from the beach. There were plenty of parasols and beach chairs for everyone.
The pool areas were fantastic, and daily entertainment was organized and busy.
The New Year's celebration was incredible. It was well organized with lots of champagne flowing.
Selection of premium liquor was good. Lineups for drinks during the day was reasonable.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Cons:
The a-la-carte restaurants were all booked up after the second day. We were able to get into 2 for the week as a family of five but some people we spoke to were not able to book any restaurants.
The buffet was okay but got tiresome by week's end.
There were many "extra" costs including a hotel tax we found out about upon arrival. Some of the extras were more Mexico related than hotel specific (for example, the "exit" tax, the cost to see Tulum was exorbitant and the process was painful). The local transit was very reasonable at 20 pesos each way per person for the 20-minute drive to Tulum.
Some of the costs at the hotel were a little out of hand (examples: exchange rates, CAD 19 for a bag of chips, USD 233 for golf). It is advisable to get Pesos in smaller denominations before arriving in Mexico. Tipping was common and appeared to be expected (20 pesos is less than CAD 2).
The rooms had a weird layout with separate shower and toilet area and a sink in the main room. We had three in one room, so it made it a little dysfunctional at times.
The hotel is a long drive from Cancun airport to the hotel (~1.5 hours)

Bahia Principe Explore Esmeralda: Mixed Feelings
One of the main reasons I picked this resort was because it advertised that it has tennis and pickleball courts. Unfortunately, the tennis courts are in terrible shape, almost unplayable, and even dangerous because of the uneven surface, poor repairs, and improper surface paint. The pickleball court isn't much better. On the other hand, the food was very good and as was the service staff. Entertainment was also a bit disappointing: always a solo performer with an overladen set of pre-recorde[... read more]d backing tracks. An actual duo or trio would have been much preferred. A final comment: The departure at Punta Cana airport was a disaster, very poorly organized, as we had to stand in various lines (an hour and a half for an Air Canada bag drop) and another thirty minutes for security and customs.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: A perfect holiday
Loved this hotel… it was our second visit there.
The staff was friendly and helpful.
The food was amazing.
Golf was a bit expensive but our golfers enjoyed the course.
Check in was terrible! It was a full hour and a half before we were checked in and there were only 6 people on our shuttle.
Spent a lot of time at the quiet pool which was perfect for our group.
We learned after we arrived there that we could have booked our a La carte restaurants before we left home. That would have been[... read more] helpful to know!
There was NO WestJet rep available at any time for us. We had to figure out getting to airport on our own with some help from the staff at guest experience.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Good resort
the new rooms were amazing. We have been to the resort multiple times and in our experience the buffet was far better in the past, as far as choices and mostly the temperature of the food. The food was ALWAYS COLD!!! The heating system they have implemented is NOT working! We were thinking of taking our adult children and spouses in late 2026, but this may be a deal breaker!

Bahia Principe Escape Ambar: Great resort but not for everyone
Resort had great food and amenities. Beaches are very nice and a great place for most people. Disappointed with the noise at night and the party atmosphere which wasn’t for everyone, especially when you have a nice swim out near the pool and it was too loud during the day and a few nights to sit outside and enjoy due to the music. The music choice was fine but volume was like a March break atmosphere. Not for us but everything else eas great

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Good resort, so sorry service
We enjoyed the resort itself-the pools, waterpark. But the beach was far away. In order to have access to other resorts and use their bars, pools, waterparks and restaurants, we had to pay extra. We enjoyed the grounds. Staff were not helpful. Lots of confusion. Sometimes we had to ask several times, if you tip, you get better service. Guest services were often not available. We got more information from other people. Even though we loved the food, the entertainment, the animals-I would not go t[... read more]here again due to poor service and attitude.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Great resort!
The hotel was clean, well maintained and kept. The staff work super hard, they are very friendly and always willing to help. There was a decent amount of food options if you don’t have dietary restrictions (e.g., meat or dairy). Because I have a meat and dairy allergy the food was very challenging for me. Although they had options for me to eat they did not separate veggie options from the meat or dairy products. This resulted in tongs being used in the dairy and meat products. Due to my allergi[... read more]es I had to avoid most dishes on the menu. When the chefs were available they would prepare something special for me in the kitchen which I was always grateful for. With so many allergies around it would be safer to separate certain products with the correct labels for guests.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: A horrible resort that ruined Christmas!
This resort is an absolute nightmare! It took almost an hour to check us in, and then we were told to wait for a trolley to take us to our room. After waiting 30 minutes we ended up walking to the room with all of our luggage. The resort wasn’t busy and had very few travellers.
Got a room with absolutely NO hot water and when we went to the front desk they were no help. We were unable to shower the entire trip and denied a room change. The front desk said they would send a supervisor to come [... read more]check our room, and at 1AM we heard a knock on our door. We didn’t answer because we were trying to sleep. We felt that it was an inappropriate time to be coming to our room, but the staff didn’t seem to care which was a common theme amongst the entire staff.
Room service stood outside our door every morning and had loud conversations at 8am, and if we didn’t leave the room by 8:30am, we would receive a wake up call from staff to wake us up. They wanted access so they could clean it, so we were not allowed to sleep past 8am. On the third day I had to unplug the phone and lock the door because they would just enter even when we were sleeping. They didn’t care.
The food service is also pathetic. You can sit in a restaurant for over 30 minutes without getting served. They got upset when I got up and served myself some water because I was needing a drink and couldn’t wait any longer. There was only one other table with people so they weren’t busy. We even tip staff 50-100 pesos and still the horrible service. After 30 minutes waiting to give our order, it was another 30 minutes for them to make a ham and cheese sandwich. The chef was so mad one day he had to make a sandwich, he smashed the bread so hard until it was in pieces and totally squished.
The room was absolutely FREEZING because the AC was broken so temp was 17.5 all day and night, and there were no blankets on the bed. Only a very thin sheet and almost froze to death the first night and woke up very stuffy. We had to ask for 2 blankets from front desk.
At 5pm on Monday a four wheeler would drive around and fumigate around pool. A big thick grey cloud would surround the entire resort and make it smell like diesel fumes for the entire evening. The next day you would find dead cockroaches in your room and all over the resort.
Ala cart meals were nonexistent. It was just the buffet food but with service. An employee named Luis would give our table away constantly and make us wait longer. They would always bring the wrong drinks, and they would pretend to be cleaning so they don’t have to serve. We watched 3 of them wipe down a table for 30 minutes while people sat waiting for drinks.
Cockroaches in room, alive and dead. They would be everywhere! We wouldn’t leave out sandles on floor because there would be one in there in the morning! Spider webs were covering the hot tub. It hadn’t been cleaned in a very long time too. There was lots of hair at the bottom when I removed the cover.
There was a very strong smell of feces between the ala cart restaurant and pool restaurant the entire week we were there. It was a very pungent odor and made you feel sick to your stomach when you walked by.
It was extremely loud from 10am-5pm around the entire resort. The Mexican entertainment staff would be screaming on loud speaker and have music blaring at top volume. We tried to have a nap but the volume of noise in the room was unbearable and we couldn’t get any rest. It was constant party, party, party!
The attitude from staff was pathetic. They didn’t want to be there and it showed. They were rude to you, they ignored any requests, and threw together food and events without even considering the guests first. They just wanted your money.
The transport from hotel to hotel was painful. Jam packed trolleys that they would squish 3 to a seat when it only fits 2. They were always late, would circle around the resort until it’s full, and hit speed bumps with speed that would send you flying in the air. It also hurts your butt and back when you landed.
They would constantly scam money from you. Taxi would over charge by a lot and shops would mark up prices 3x what it would be off the resort. A bag of chips was $30! Constant harassment from time share people when relaxing or walking back to room. They were all over the resort, and they would FOLLOW YOU!
Poor food options. Raw and undercooked food was always at the buffet. No plates, no butter, and no condiments were also a regular thing at the buffets. There was a lot of seafood and dead fish carcasses all around the buffet.
Coatis and raccoons were all around the resort and they were chased by staff and hit with net on a stick, as well as the birds. They were quite cruel to the animals in the area. The hotel even boasts that they are a nature preserve but it didn’t feel that way when they were abusing the local wildlife.
Uneven and rough sidewalk made it difficult to walk around. They put Christmas and new years decorations on the path so tourists would stop for photos. This meant you were waiting to go by for 10 minutes while people were taking photos on the pathway.
Charging extra for food and festivities during Christmas and new years to get extra money from tourists. They shut down parts of the hotel which we had already paid for so they could charge more for a party. It was constant money grabbing. “How can we get more from the tourists”…by scamming them into thinking we are giving them more when really it’s only what they have already paid for.
It’s absolutely insane how long you wait for at this resort. Especially when they were not even busy. I have attached pictures to show some of the things in this review. I would STAY CLEAR OF THIS RESORT! Waste of money!

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Wonderful FamilyTrip
Before leaving for the trip we were a little concerned by some of the negative reviews we read, however we were pleasantly surprised. The rooms were a little dated and could use some fixing up but the entertainment and food made up for it. The fact that it was not on the beach was irrelevant as the shuttles made it very easy to get there and we never had trouble finding chairs, the line for the bar was always long so we just brought drinks with us.
The New Years dinner and party was beyond[... read more] our expectations!
The resort is very clean, the grounds are absolutely beautiful and the people who work there are so happy, friendly and so helpful.
After touring the entire complex of resorts we will definitely be back to try out either the Tequila or the Tulum resorts for no other reason then the Coba is geared to families and small kids which we do not have.

The grounds were always clean. Very nice resort! Rooms were big and very comfortable. Concierge were there if you needed anything extra. Maids were super sweet and appreciative. Pools were great! Always found seats. Beach was nice, but I recommend water shoes for the water. Staff were very friendly! Service at buffet was slow for me and my son but everything else was great. Bahia Principe Escape Ambar: Incredible stay at a beautiful resort
We loved our stay at the Bahia Principe Ambar. The beach was the highlight for me - miles of gorgeous smooth sand that we walked for hours on end. The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. The pool is beautiful and a very comfortable temperature. Although the resort was "at capacity", there were always loungers available at the pool and the beach.
The rooms are huge and beautiful. Open bathroom/shower concept so just be forewarned if that's not your thing. Our young adult kids (ma[... read more]le and female) were sharing a room and that took a bit of scheduling for privacy.
The restaurants were beautiful and the food was pretty good. The main buffet was very plentiful and if you don't love eating from communal supplies, there was always menu items you could get made to order - eggs, fish, pasta, etc.
We had an amazing stay at Bahia Principe Grand Samaná and couldn’t have chosen a better resort for a peaceful getaway. A special thanks to Colleen, who helped us pick this resort — it was absolutely the perfect choice for what we were looking for.
The resort is quiet, relaxing, and very well maintained, ideal for couples or anyone wanting to disconnect from busy, crowded resorts. The private beach is beautiful, clean, and never overcrowded. You can always find a quiet spot to sit, listen to t[... read more]he waves, and truly relax.
The food exceeded our expectations. There was a great variety at every meal, with fresh ingredients and flavorful options. The à la carte restaurants were excellent, and even the buffet felt well-curated rather than repetitive. We especially enjoyed the fresh seafood and desserts.
Staff throughout the resort were friendly, professional, and genuinely helpful, making the stay feel welcoming from start to finish. The rooms were spacious, clean, and offered stunning ocean views that made mornings and evenings extra special.
Overall, Bahia Principe Grand Samaná is a hidden gem — peaceful, scenic, and perfect for a relaxing vacation.

Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Great resort plenty to do beautiful location
Very nice and well maintained resort with an excellent staff. The food is good with plenty of choice. The beach is very pleasant but the surf can get rough at times. There were plenty of people snorkeling but I don't so can't comment on how good the view is. Lot's of entertainment and activities and kids seemed to be having lots of fun. The pavilion that acts as reception and lobby is beautiful and a very pleasant place to just sit and do nothing out of the sun.

Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine: Overall good resort
Bahia principe Aquamarine is part of a complex of resorts. The buffet was largely catered to the US cuisine with fresh eggs counter at breakfast- Irene was great!
Rooms were a 3/5. However, you don't go there to stay in the rooms. The bathrooms don't have anywhere for humidity to go- so be prepared for that.
Dinners: You have to reserve your dinners at the restaurant ahead of time or you will get a 10
Pm slot. We tried the Mexican 2/5- themed service was bad. They forgot our food and we wa[... read more]ited for about 49
Minutes while others who came after us were served and offered drinks. The Japanese restaurant was the best.4/5, el Olivia Italian was ok, the salmon appetizer was the best, tuna not so much. 3/5
Be prepared for your orders to get mixed up a bit.
Entertainment was really good. The pools were 5/5, away from the party scene at Bahia Punta Cana which you can access (family resort- too chaotic for us)
You don't have access to Ambar, however I wouldn't pay more for this adult resort. You have to walk through this to get to the beach or take the tram which is every few minutes
Drinks - G&T and mango daiquiri were the best. Local beer is light. Avoid the house red wine/ in this heat, it will taste like vinegar.
