Fabulous vacation

We spent 2 weeks at the Melia Cayo Coco from 6th Jan to 20th Jan and had a fabulous vacation,. We flew from Hamilton airport with Air Transat arriving at MCC at 10p.m. While checking in we could hear the 4 Tenors singing. After a quick check-in we enjoyed a glass of champagne and had a dance before taking the shuttle to our lovely ocean view room on the second floor. We would like to thank our maid Maritzer for keeping our room spotless and providing us with fresh towels every day and also with tissues as we came down with a cold a few days after arriving. Fortunately the hot sun and relaxing ambiance of MCC helped us recover quickly. We enjoyed meals at all the Al a carte restaurants and the food was hot and delicious. Service was fast and efficient and always with a smile. All the staff throughout the resort were pleasant, fast and efficient. There was a wide variety of food in the buffet, from fresh fish to pasta to pizza. Something for everyone. Cuban ice cream is so good and we really enjoyed the pastries and merengue for desert. The Spanish wines served with meals was excellent, my preference being the white wine but the red was also good. Our very special thanks go to Yunismy from Customer Service who arranged for us to have breakfast in our room and a special dinner for our Anniversary in the Gazebo above the pool It was a very romantic and magical evening, something we will never forget. Throughout our stay we would see her and she always checked to make sure that everything was O.K. and would ask if there was anything she could do for us. We met the new General Manager Bernard Meyer at a reception to meet the hotel staff. He is a very hard working man and seemed to be everywhere checking that everything was going well. He sat next to us at dinner in the buffet one evening and we enjoyed chatting to him. All the staff spoke highly of him and he is doing a terrific job as the hotel is running very smoothly. I must mention the maids that clean around the hotel in the public spaces. They do a good job and the public washrooms are always spotless and often looked quite pretty as they arranged flowers around the sinks. The gardeners are another asset to the resort and keep the grounds looking pretty and the flowering hedges well trimmed. The evening entertainment was top notch and we really enjoyed the dance Troup and the water ballet. The Cuban band, rock band and all the other bands had us up dancing as the did the dance Troup. It was lovely to see Meite from Activities in the evenings as she would get my husband up to dance and he would joke it made him young. The Activities staff were busy during the day with bingo, aqua fit and other games to keep guests happy and occupied if they wished to join in. The beach was cleaned daily and always spotless and the ocean was warm once you were in. There was a beach bar and beach restaurant which at night became the Cuban restaurant. At lunch time they served hamburgers topped with Ham and a fried egg and ice cream for desert...Delicious !! We did enjoy the king size sunbeds around the pool, hubby could nap and I could read by book in comfort. Everyone seemed to be having fun at the Foam pool party which we watched from the snack bar. They serve pizza, hamburgers, French fires and other food and is open 24 hours. The Lobby bar is also open 24 hours and has a good selection of drinks of high quality. Also they make the most delicious Spanish coffee and cappuccinos. Have I forgotten anything, probably and this review is rather long but my advice to anyone reading this, is to go and see for yourself that Melia Cayo Coco is a wonderful resort to spend your vacation. You will be well taken care of and have a terrific time.

Melia Cayo Coco

This was our second at the Melia Cayo Coco and were not disappointed. Great beach, great weather, good clean resort with immaculate grounds, friendly and helpful staff, good food and lots of fun. We are already planning our return later this year. We ran in to a couple from London, Ontario that have been there 71 times in the last 12 years if that says anything. We felt like we were treated like royalty. See you soon!!

Second home-been 20+ times

The resort is always making improvements. They are always attentive to their guest needs. Food is the best you can get in Cuba. The rooms and resort are very clean. Looking to book our next trip likely in March or April.

Loved Melia Cayo Coco

We just returned from our Jan 8-16th 2019 trip to the Melia Cayo Coco. Rooms were clean. Beach was beautiful soft white sand and seaweed was combed daily. Food was good, excellent selection. We heard from others that the food was the best in Cuba of any resort they have stayed at. The pool was quiet and it was always easy to find a lounge chair. It was nice that the resort was small and an adults only crowd, meaning there were n [... read more]ever huge lineups for fresh food stations at the buffet. Staff were very friendly and hard working. Nightly entertainment and music/singers were wonderful! Overall a great value! we would return again. one word of advice- One day it rained like crazy and afterward huge swarms of mosquitos came out and bit all the guests very badly. This only happened once after heavy rain so bring bug spray with DEET just in case. Also stay off the beach at night to avoid sand flea bites. Follow these rules and you'll have no issue. Bring ear plugs if you're noise sensitive - If your room backs onto the pool or 24 snack bar is can get a little loud from late night guests and frogs in the lagoon

Good resort

It is much better than any other hotel I have been in in Cuba. Food was good, staff was friendly, rooms were adequate. A bit of a smell when the air conditioner is off. Drinks were good. Not enough staff to make them or deliver them as you waited almost 20 minutes to get a drink or coffee when there is hardly anyone in the lobby. That is the problem too there is no one to serve around the pool if there is it is only 1 person. That could be the time of year. Trip #20 and still awesome!

Hotel is always looking to make improvements, maintenance staff are available and work hard to rectify any issues. Wait staff are amazing, friendly and alway happy to see you. Housekeeping do a spotless job. We met the new general manager, he introduced himself to us and appreciated our loyalty. We travelled early the fall so the resort was not full, finding sunbeds was not an issue.

Relaxing Resort

Well maintained, needs some updating, on pool deck, grounds keepers good ! Needs beach bar& grill with some music. Maybe one night a week beach fire / party!!! Doors on ground level rooms needs sweep, has big gap. Too many bugs coming in rooms. I saw plenty ants& large bugs, Decko got in another room I’m told..

Nice well kept Adults resort

Good Adults only resort.Well kept and organized and friendly staff including Gardners. Food is OK and rooms good and properly attended. Few suggestions: Snack bar can be more efficient & serving more SNACKS ONLY with soft drinks Need better access to Pool bar,straight path OR "AQUA POOL BAR" in POOL Books collection can be consolidated and visible to guests for reading. Cancel lunch option and enhance Dinner hours say 6 PM to 10 PM Add  [... read more]more lunch options to Cuban restaurant at beach.Good quiet place to eat Whirl pool tub can be improved and operational. Ok, not as great as everyone thinks.

This resort is a favourite for many repeat customers, this was my 3rd visit. There is a pretty significant $ premium to stay at the Melia Cayo Coco over the other neighbouring Melia resorts, definitely not worth it on this trip. Poor selection of liqours, drink mixn food. The bright spot is still the staff, I give them 2 thumbs up. The other resorts had better beer, premium liquor. Seems backwards..... Anyhow, enjoyed my stay.

Excellent resort, excited to book for a third time for next year!

This was our second visit to MCC. Although they took at tremendous hit from Irma they have recovered amazingly. Some thing are better than before. The beach restaurant is up and running. (last year it was closed). You can see the beach from some of the rooms with a clear view as the vegetation was vastly destroyed and is regrowing providing a beautiful view of the ocean. We were so happy to get to see some of our friends on staff again this year! The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The food is good with a variety of selections daily. Unless you are difficult to please you will be able to enjoy many great food items. We had the lobster one evening for dinner and I would recommend paying the extra to enjoy it. It was delicious! The entertainment was excellent. Always something different wether it be dancing, local Cuban music or a DJ at the beach bash. Something for everyone. The beach is pristine! Very clean with many loungers available. MCC simply put is my little piece of heaven on earth!! To some standards it may not be a 5 star in comparison to others however, if you want a resort that offers excellent costumer service, clean spacious rooms, good food and a beautiful beach experience this is a wonderful choice. Don’t believe the negative reviews. My opinion is that the negative reviews come from people who are very difficult to please or who just see the glass half empty and choose to pick out every thing to complain about rather than focus on the positive. I would definitely recommend MCC for those who want a little piece of heaven on earth!!

Amazing resort

Hotel was wonderful, beaches fantastic, rooms great, hospitality wonderful. Will be returning. The people from the resort make it what it is. Nightly entertainment was fantastic . Premium lagoon upgrade is very worthwhile

Amazing Resort

Everything was excellent, the room was perfect, the grounds were well looked after, the employee's were very friendly and helpful, the food was excellent, the pool was well looked after, the ocean was awesome, and the weather was great. The only thing I wished they had was a bank at the resort. We needed some cash and had to take the bus to a market, but the bank machine wasn't working. Had to go back a second day to try again, and then it was working.

Relaxing vacation in Cayo Coco

The grounds are recovering very nicely from Hurricane Irma - the gardeners are working around the clock. They lost many palm trees but there is still lots of shade. We are fist time visitors to this resort. I was happy it was an adult only. The beach is wide and beautiful and there is always a breeze to shield us from the sun and humidity. Our room was on block 73 on  [... read more]the upper floor-it is a large room with great AC and amenities. They do have satellite TV in many languages. There is hot water all you want and the pressure is excellent. Must say that the mattress is very hard; it looks like they haven't changed mattresses since the property has been built...we complained and they eased it up a bit by putting a blanket under the sheet. We had a problem with the fridge and they came and changed it very quickly. The food was better than I had in Cuba so far but it can be repetitive and some items are not there every day. They have an Argentinian chef and a Mexican pastry chef. You won't go hungry here. The service at the dining room can be hit or miss. Some of the waiters and really great and some of them are just busy clearing the tables. I experienced better service in Mexico. The beach has lots of palapas and loungers. I heard that they used to have waiters at the beach for your drinks but they no longer have them due to cut backs....I do not understand such hotels; they want tourists to come and yet instead of making improvements they take away services. The nightly entertainment is superb. They bring the artists from outside the hotel. The pool area seem very clean. We have not tried any of the a la carte restaurants. There is a double decker bus that stops on all the hotels - it costs 5 pesos per person and you can hop on and off as much as you want. There are no towns in the island, but there is a shopping centre and if you take the bus all the way, you reach Cayo Guillermo, which is beautiful in itself and you can get off at Playa Pilar - this is a really beautiful beach with crystal clear shallow water, loungers, palapas and a restaurant. I highly recommend going there. You can visit the rest of the Melia chain hotels in both Cayo Coco and Guillermo but you are only allowed to visit one a day. Make sure you ask the hotel reception to give you a voucher so when you arrive at the hotel you want to visit, you get a bracelet so you can use their facilities. We visited Melia Jardines del Rey. Do yourselves a favour and skip this huge hotel -not worth it. When you walk from the Melia Cayo Coco to the Sol Cayo Coco, which is next one on the left side, walk all the way behind that abandoned building, which used to be a discoteque and you will see a different beach. Crystal clear waters as well and a public one with free loungers and a kiosk for drinks. Melia Cayo Coco is a place to relax - there is no loud music during the day. On the other side of the hotel there is the Pullman hotel. If you want to visit, make sure you walk from the front of the hotel as the guards at the back won't let you go in. Regarding wi-fi - it is only accessible thru a 1 hr card you can purchase at the front desk. There is also no free wi-fi at their airport. We had a beautiful relaxing vacation but I don't think we will be back because we never visit a hotel twice.

Great Resort

Resort was close to the airport. Food was normal for Cuba. The resort was a quiet resort which was nice. Staff were very friendly. The age of people going to the hotel was mostly older (50+), but there were young people as well.

Glad to have returned.

Arrived to a day of rain. We had about 41/2 days of sun. A lot of work had been done since Hurricane Irma but it will take some more time till it reaches the quality that it was before. The staff had been amazing and it was great to see them again with their smiling faces. You can tell that they love their jobs. Our room was a classic room and taken very good care of by the ladies that clean them. Do not regret this visit at all.

Same excellent quality as always

Back several times already and will not consider another resort. The personnel is amazing: Abel and Hector and the ladies at breakfast in the dining room, Jose and Robert and Jeanette at the YHI spa and gym (including the life guards - good company at the gym - thanks guys!) and Yoga , the ladies Vivian and Yeoyilani (did I spell that right?) for lunch at the beach restaurant, staff at the reception, the maids, the entertainment crew - absolutely everyone made my stay again great - will be back  [... read more]next June!!!

Boring nothing to do at night

I went with my daughter and we both found it very boring at night. The entertaiment in the lobby at night is for older people. Thank god for the billiards bar that's where we spent our time. The rooms were nice and clean so was the beach. There was a lot of mosquitoes at night :( We mostly ate at the buffet food was good. Service at the pool restaurant was not good took forever to get our food. The smell is awful when you walk by the lagoon rooms. The resort was okay but I will not be returning [... read more] :( maybe when i'm 75 years old I will.

Beautiful resort

Our second visit to this resort .Great 18 plus very clean beautiful beach and wonderful staff! Will be going back next year. The food is really good , always lots of choices and 24 hour pool bar. Also the entertainment is excellent, especially aqua night.

Beautiful Melia Cayo Coco, Always......

... BEAUTIFUL MELIA CAYO COCO…ALWAYS… We just came back from a 2 weeks stay at Melia Cayo Coco. This was our 12th time. It was nice to see all the friendly and very dedicated staff who make this resort very special. The resort looks very open and we can see the ocean everywhere. The weather was hot to very hot and we were happy to go for a swim in the ocean every morning before breakfast. The resort is very clean, and the service always excellent. The beach restaurant is reopened with [... read more] the group playing every day for lunch. They did a fantastic job to rebuild, plant new trees, new buffet restaurant, etc.…. The buffet restaurant is bigger – no patio with outside tables – brighter, white paint and white table and chairs. It has bright LED spotlights at an angle on the ceiling, which mean that depending on where you seat, you may have those spotlights shining right on your face. We tried to sit in a corner to avoid those lights. Those lights also bring a lot of heat to a big dining room which has a struggling air conditioning, so it was quite hot most of the time. After we talked to the manager they turned off some of the lights which helped. There is a very strong echo in this restaurant so that even if only one person spoke, it was very loud. When the dining room was full for dinner, the noise was unbearable. A few people whom we talked to were so annoyed by those lights and the acoustic noise that they decided not to come back to this otherwise lovely resort. As for us, we liked the resort and want to be able to return. We hope that the management will soon find a solution to it. We know that there are many other priorities, but this should be high on the list. The food in the buffet was excellent. We had dinner at the International restaurant, good food, poor air conditioning and at the Mediterranean restaurant (we did not like the menu). The buffet was always our first choice. The entertainment was first class. Elim the pianist at 7 PM who always put us in a good mood with his selection of music, the Vocal Andares singers, the Band Familia, the Vibraphonist, the night shows in the lobby, the excellent and talented dancers..the shows around and in the pool etc… We want to thank Gipsy Lopez Reyes for selecting the proper non-smoking room for us, our maid Dianeya with her lovely smile, our waiters in the Buffet Diarlys, Joel, Olexis,Chevi, Oswaldo. Vivian with her beautiful smile at the International restaurant in the morning for breakfast. Aranelis and Tamara in the lobby, all the friendly gardeners, etc… At the reception, the staff was very helpful, especially Ariel.

Best Beach Vacation

We have returned from our 3rd visit to this wonderful hotel. We were very hesitant about booking as we could see the widespread damage that Hurricane Irma did. Things in general are all back to normal although a few repairs still need to be done but they do not really impact your stay. Still no roof in the theatre, but we preferred the shows in the lobby! Great entertainment again this year, in particular the evening shows and groups, just wonderful Cuban music! We really only had a few minor issues. We would like beer in a beer glass, it often came in a wine glass. I brought my own pillow as the pillows in the room are too big and too hard. All in all it was our best beach vacation ever. We are already planning our trip for next year!
