Best vacation ever

This is my first trip to Cuba and I'm very glad that I've chosen a great resort to start with. Beatuful beach, nice environment, very friendly people of the resort. Food was also beyond expectation. Everything was great and we will definitely come again. Thanks to the agent of tripcentral (Jack) for helping us choosing this hotel.

Good as always

PCV continues to provide an affordable and enjoyable vacation. The food is better than the standard Cuban fare with lots of fresh and varied choices. The grounds and rooms are always clean and comfortable, even during renovations. Will have to return soon the see the new Beer Corner and Cigar Lounge and the resurfaced pool deck. Probably best of all about PCV though is the staff...the most friendly, efficient and caring people you could find.

Not good this time around..

The hotel has deteriorated since the previous 4 visits. Staff cutbacks have the poor staff running like chickens with their heads cut off... On arrival, the weather was cold and rainy....the roof leaked in our room...the heat did NOT work in our room...temp was +7c... Instead of a queen bed....two doubles...had to ask twice and wait nearly 3 days before a queen mattress was put on top of the double beds..the roof leak was never fixed.. The buffet, pool restaurant and Cuban outdoor restaura [... read more]nt was inundated with cats....competing with cats for dinner is NOT what I paid for..when speaking to the Hotel Manager about the cat problem....it was NOT a priority to rid the hotel of the cats....on previous visits...was rare to see one or two cats... Food in the Buffet and other outdoor restaurants was extremely bland from what it used to be...regrettably...Costa Verde is in farm land...food and fruit was far superior on previous visits.

We love it here!!

We have stayed many times at Playa Costa Verde. Every year we notice changes/upgrades to the grounds and facilities. You won't find more friendly staff and they always want to help you. The staff are just the greatest. The rooms are clean and airy. We had everything we needed in our room. The many towel caricatures our maid left daily for us were just amazing. She made every thing from elephants to people with hats to swans to hearts. The food is very nice with lots of options to chose  [... read more]from at the main buffet. The beach is very nice with lots of cabanas to sit under. Just remember sometimes people like to sit in the sun rather than under the cabana. Always check to make sure that the cabana is not taken before moving under it. I would recommend water socks as there is a coral reef to walk across. The second reef had a break that is all sand to walk though. This second reef is great for snorkeling. The fish are amazing.

Cuba at it's best

We returned to Cuba after 4 years and to Costa Verde for the 3rd time. We just love the Holguin area, because it has the best Cuba has to offer; Beautiful beach, Cuban country side, and Costa Verde is the best place to be: staff is friendly, helpful, and they all work very well together. It really felt like coming home, even after 4 years. The resort is dated, but they work hard at renovating and updating the facilities. Playa Coste Verde

We have been to this resort 6 times now which I think says a lot right there. The biggest thing that keeps us coming back is the people. They are so friendly and in my opinion genuine. (not just doing it for tips). The beach is good, snorkeling just out front which we like to do, lots of fish to see. This year we noticed that they have removed the clocks and coffee makers from the rooms. Also the beds could use an update. Not a deal breaker but some negatives. Christmas in Cuba

The staff at this resort were friendly and accommodating. We could tell that they were currently updating the guest rooms and replacing the tile around the pool which will help with the resorts overall look. The resort is beautiful but it's the little things that take away from this. Cracked tiles and few other broken items. There was always plenty of beach chairs and always staff on hand to carry the chairs for you. Food was good especially at the snack bar. If you go, book the Japanese resta [... read more]urant. Third time at the Playa Costa Verda

Amazing as always, great people, good food, wonderful beach area. Staff are very helpful and friendly, no problems what so ever. The ala carte restaurants where awesome especially the Japanese restaurant and the entertainment that comes with it.

Playa Coste Verde

This was our 4th trip to this resort, that says something in it self. It has the best beach out of the 3 resorts that are on that cove. The grounds are lovely and well kept. Food is very good for Cuban food. This resort is on the small side and if your looking for a loud party place this is not the resort for you.

Another great stay at Costa Verde

This was our third trip to Playa Costa Verde.and we still love the place. We have been to several resorts and still like this the best. It is mid sized so you still get the services without the huge crowds or long walks between each. Also, it is barrier free with no need to use stairs if you have a ground floor room. There are renovations going on but the interruption is minimal and nothing was truly closed but just relocated. The main bar opened the day before we left for home so the lobby  [... read more]is back to normal. As with most of Cuba you go for the beach, the people and the great service. We hear complaints about the food in Cuba but there is always something good to eat. Playa Costa Verde has three or four grills open in the buffet at every meal so there is no need to eat from the steam tables if you don't want to. Our favorite is the variety of fresh fish that is cooked to order right in front of you and there is always fresh cooked pasta and pizza. Playa Pesquero is great swimming and snorkeling. Take a banana to feed the fish and you will see at least a dozen species in water that is not even neck deep even at high tide as the first reef is only 30 M off the beach. There is no need to go early to hold a sun bed as there is a huge pile and the staff are happy to bring them to any location you like. There are three pools in the main pool area. One large with the bar, one smaller with the volleyball net and one small and shallow for the kids. There is also a children's program morning and afternoon in their own activity centre with a pool. They are replacing the pool deck but working small areas at a time so very little inconvenience. Give Costa Verde a try for your next trip. I think you will be pleased overall.

Our stay

We have gone there 9 times now and loved every minute. Even if the lobby bar was under construction it did not damper the mood of the visitors or the staff. Beach was as awesome as ever and the resort gets better every time we go there. Can't wait til next year

We love this place!

We love Playa Costa Verde. As repeat visitors we were extremely happy to be back. The grounds are lovely, the beach is exceptional and our rooms were diligently maintained and comfortable. The staff at the hotel are the best!! Genuinely warm, friendly and a lot of fun. we really wanted for nothing. The hobby cats are a huge treat and we made sure to get out for a sail everyday and sometimes twice. The food is good - there is always something available even for the fussiest of eaters. Lovely Resort!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Playa Costa. This was our 5th time to Cuba and once again we were not left disappointed, However the hydro in the bathroom/makeup area of our room was inadequate to use some of our hair irons etc. No biggie. Our travelling buddies had the same issue as their room was right across from ours. The buffet was huge and a great selection. Internet access was very good as that was how we kept in touch with family. Beds/pillows comfy so always a good sleep. It was a great week, weather perfect and what an amazing bang for your buck. Other then the exchange rate when converting our Cdn dollar to CUC's. I was expecting to lose about 25 cents on the dollar, however we lost about 35cents per dollar which we were quite shocked at. There was no music during 6 days of our stay due to the passing of Fidel Castro and that was mandated by the government

Good Resort

Our room and the grounds were clean always. They were both great. The breakfast buffet was terrible. The lunch and dinner buffet was good. BUT THE FOOD AT BUFFET WAS CONSISTENTLY COLD ALWAYS. Snack bar was consistently a good place to eat for breakfast and lunch. The plastic cups at the pool bar are too small and too thin. The Cuban and Italian restaurants were good. The Japanese was excellent.

Happy to return for 12th time

The staff continue to be amazing. They have recently upholstered the furniture in the lobby which gives it a fresh look. The renovation on the bar area did not bother us at all. In fact saw little work being done (probably waiting on material, that's Cuba!) Food good, always something you can find even if you are a picky eater. Super entertainment, such talent! Rooms are getting a bit dated and beds are hard but very clean and spacious. Many people return to this resort because of how they are treated. Lots of kids there and family oriented. The area around the pool is a worn cobblestone with lots of little holes. They are replacing it gradually but I took a fall as my sandal caught a hole and so please be careful. Also not a bad idea to bring a flashlight as the paths are not well lite at night. It is a great resort and we will return always as the staff are like family.

Simple resort with complicated ways

We were surprised to see an open eating restaurant-buffet exposed to birds and all kinds of insects at the 4 star hotel! The access to the beach was unusual as well ,over the swamp,with one bridge ,no shower at the exit from the beach ,it was on the repair for the whole week. This hotel is good for enthusiastic walkers,long distances everywhere.

Nice beach, Nice staff, Food... hit and miss

The beach was nice. I've stayed in almost all the resorts in the Holguin area and I'd say this is the best beach. It's shared with Blau costa Verde and Playa Pesqero (spelling :() Most of the staff were really friendly but weren't very motivated. Many times I sat down at a table and ate my buffet meal never getting a beverage. It became quite difficult to get glasses of water. It's like the had to search for water for ten minutes. They can normally only afford one or two nights at the resort so they indulge themselves. Hard to get drinks at the swim up bar or lobby bar. The locals would order 8 drinks at a time. Same with having an omelette made in the morning. I'd be third in line but the chef would have to make 10 omelettes before he got to mine. Each person in front of me was ordering for a whole family. Once the weekend was over, no problem. Seems like the hotel planned for this as the food was terrible on the weekends and during the week it was a complete turn around. Actually had lobster at the buffet??? The hotel has seen better days. I get that Cuba has difficulties getting supplies, but I'm not sure how they qualify this resort as anything beyond a two star. Tiles missing, dead grass, garbage everywhere, broken fixtures, balcony plat pots without plants, etc. Then came our chambermaid. On the first day I noticed a dead bug squashed on the window. I opened the curtains to ensure she would see it. We left two week later, it was still there. Garbage (beer cans) that were in our "empty" plant pots upon arrival, were still there when we left. So here's the good. The lobby bar made awesome cappuccino's and cortados. The mangos are in season and are so delicious. You can walk 3km up the street and get authentic Cuban food and not at the street side restaurant. Tucked away down a dusty street is a cute little private restaurant. The food is pretty good and the prices are excellent. Get some help with the directions from the staff at the resort. Bring a good snorkel and mask because there's lots to see on the Blau Costa Verde side of the beach.

Great Vacation!

Loved the hotel, service, food, staff, grounds. Cannot say anything negative about Playa Costa Verde. This was our third trip and huge improvement over the second stay (which was in 2012 and was not a very pleasant stay).

Great Resort

The hotel was very clean and our room was large and clean. The beach was awesome!!! The pool also! Would recommend this resort to anyone. Very family friendly. The staff was very good and always wanted to help in any way they could!

Amazing Resot

Thi was our 3rd visit to Playa Costa Verde and if far exceeded our expectations considering our first 2 visits were in 2001, and 2002! It was top drawer all the way, people are 2nd to none, resort was beautiful, food was excellent, entertainment was top notch and the grounds were impeccable! I have recommended this resort to our friends!
