Blau Costa Verde Plus - August 4-11/2017

Hotel was beautiful, big, but not too big. Walking from the room to the various restaurants and the beach/pools was not too far. Hotel rooms were cleaned consistently and very well. Room was spotless after cleaning. Stocking of fridge was consistent on a daily basis. Room size was average for two double beds and a cot for the third person. Beds were ok, cot sufferer complained that the bed was too hard. Grounds were well maintained and fairly well lit at night. Pools and pool areas were  [... read more]kept clean. Only issue, the people that didn't know about cleaning up after themselves and the kids that parents did not supervise. Throwing cups and straws in the pool when they were done with it. Buffet restaurant was well stocked and there were always place settings and tables were cleaned fairly quickly. Servers were very slow with coffee/tea, but it is Cuba, different time zone. The a la carte restaurants weren't bad, nothing extraordinary, but waiting between courses was a bit long. Weekenders were quite rude and wasted food and didn't supervise their kids at all. If you spoke spanish, you got service, if not, a lot of the servers pretended they didn't see you unless you called for their attention, doesn't matter if you tip or not. Another issue was the line ups at the buffet where they fried your fresh food, people butt in and the servers served them before all the people in the line up. The servers didn't ask them to move to the back of the line and wait like everyone else. Front desk was very helpful with everything, but the biggest issue was when the day trippers or weekenders were checking in, you could not get any service because the entire front counter was taken over and the wait for service was 1/2 hour to an hour to change money or just to answer a question. Would recommend they implement line ups so that the whole front desk isn't taken over and that they split the counter between checkins/questions/checkouts. Please note that this trip was during the low season.

Great place for families and those who love to swim in the ocean.

Been many times to this hotel. And will return. Always a comfy room and accommodating staff. Fabulous swimming and snorkelling. Food is all over the place. The latest chef really loves cream sauce and salt. Sauce is on most everything..even many of the vegetables. The more recycled the food is, the more sauce and salt will be on it. For some of you, this is a good thing. If you are health conscious you will have to be more creative about what you choose. The fresh salad bar [... read more] saved me. And always fresh fruit. Occasionally, desserts were outstanding. Be careful leaving any belongings at the beach unattended. Especially pool towels. They are often stolen and cost $20 Canadian if that happens. The hotel provides bottled water at no cost. This is a blessing. DO NOT DRINK TAP WATER. Self -serve bottled water at the beach is a new bonus. And self-serve soft serve ice cream is available at the beach snack bar during lunch. Fantastic! Fabulous entertainment in the evening. Especially the piano bar! All inclusive or not, a good tip is expected when a beach lounger is provided. Tipping is becoming more and more the norm, and you should plan for that when you budget.

Best food in Cuba

Went in mid July. This resort is small. The beach was 5min from my Room which I enjoyed. The food was the best I'd ever had. The people there are super friendly. I don't know if I'd go back to a rocky beach again but that's just me. Snorkeling off the beach was pretty cool.

Great vacation!

We stayed at the Blau from April 28th to May 5th, 2017 and had a wonderful vacation. The resort was clean, the room was not fancy, but clean & nice. The grounds were well maintained. We stayed on the Plus side, which gave us access to an additional pool, bar and extra a-la-carte dinners. The food at the buffet was fine - we found we had lots of selection and the flavor was good. There was plenty of staff around the resort. They had activities daily for those that wanted to participate. We enjoyed hanging out at the beach and pool. The beach was shallow and didn't get very deep until you went quite far out. In some places it was rocky, but you didn't need water shoes to go into the ocean. There was great snorkeling just off the beach. We took our gear and went out several times - even saw an octopus! We had no issues getting chairs, but we were there just into the low season, so perhaps that is why. Although they seemed to have lots of chairs at the beach and pool areas. We did one excursion - the "Blue and Green", which was the jeep one. We actually drove the jeep from the resort to the places we visited. It was a good tour and we enjoyed the vistas we saw. We talked to others who did the catamaran excursion, and they enjoyed that one, as well. Prices are in US dollars, making it a bit high with the conversion. We met many other guests who have stayed at this resort multiple times, so we knew it was a consistently good pick. We would stay there again, but we often like to try different places so would consider another one as well. We liked this area of the island because it wasn't too busy and we were looking for a quieter vacation. We would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a hotel in the area, as we had a great experience there.

Amazing people and place

This is our second time at this resort, and is still amazing, we booked in the "plus" side and is worth it, you get a swimming pool and a bar, only for the plus side. People are very friendly and they did more than what they were asked to do, to make us comfortable and happy. The cleaners did a great job in our room, it was always spotless. The buffet stuff are excellent. The food was excellent, there is always something to eat, either snack bar or buffet. We made reservations a la carte for 4  [... read more]nights which was wonderful. At this time, there was a lot of mosquitos so don't forget to take repellent (just in case). They even have ice cream machine at the beach snack bar which goes well with the heat and kids. The beach is wonderful for swimming or snorkelling (we even found lots of Dorys). We can't wait to go back!

Resort for relaxe and party

The resort sas cery clean. The room was normal but clean. The bath need renovation. The food at the buffet was very good. The two restaurant include in my travel pack was good to. The personnel was vert great. Only the personnel at the reception was unhappy to work. Vers good trip!

Super qualité prix !

Chambre modeste mais Bien équipée, très bonne bouffe pour cuba, installation conviviale super service de tous le personnel Les gens de la réception sont moins sympathiques et avenant ... J'y retournerais une 3e fois !

Best Holiday to Cuba in a long time and fantastic resort

The hotel was awesome, staff was very friendly and pleasant to speak to. The food was very good for Cuba, no complaints, The Italian restaurant had the best pizza I have ever tasted. The pools were awesome, bars around the pool were great, didn't have to wait long for a drink, service was over all good. The grounds at the Blau Costa Verde were gorgeous, I didn't realize how big the resort was until we walked around, and the flowers and the grounds were well looked after, and trimmed nice. [... read more] The staff everywhere were very friendly and helpful, made us feel at home, and very welcome. We would go back and recommend this resort.

Mediocre Resort

The servers in the buffet weren't very happy (which is quite understandable as they were probably working 18 hours a day). Most of the bartenders are extremely friendly and nice (especially the pool-bar bartender, he became my boy by the end of the trip). The entertainers are extremely awesome and friendly as well, I was constantly talking to them and they were clearly happy to be there working! My negative part comes down to the overall cleanliness of the resort and my room. My room was not cle [... read more]an, and it seemed as though the maids did not clean anything in my room (and I did not put the "do not clean" sign up). I noticed the same mark on my sheets every day after the maids had visited. Not only that, my bed was absolutely terrible; I left the resort with bruises on my stomach because of the springs digging into me. I did not stay on the Plus, which I wish I had as I made friends while on the trip, and they had told me those rooms were much nicer. The a la carte restaurants were pretty good, and the Italian a la carte restaurant allows you to eat there during the lunch hour. They provide a different lunch menu serving pizza and pasta (the pizza was actually really good, and was thin crust). Overall, I rate the resort 3.5/5. I would maybe go back if the rooms were cleaner and my bed springs didn't dig into me.

Wonderful Adult Vacation

Travelled with 4 adults to the plus side of the resort from April 21-28. We had 2 rooms very close to one another (could see each others doors) without even having to ask. The rooms were very nice and featured a shower that would rival the best 5 star hotels. Excellent shower heads with lots of water pressure and room for 2 people easily. The beds were a little firm for my tastes, but I still found them comfortable. The food at this resort is much better than I have come to expect from Cuba. [... read more] Buffet was good, restaurant by the VIP pool had great lunches, and the a la cartes were to die for! We tried Spanish and Italian and I would happily pay 50$ + per person for those meals in Canada! The house red wine is also pretty good which was a welcome change from most resorts. One small food annoyance is how busy the prepared food stations in the buffet get. Made the unfortunate choice of waiting for the fresh pasta station one night and it took over 30 minutes...going forward I just created my own using the pasta and sauce selections available with multiple meats and veggies, just as good! If you want a shady area by either pool or the beach and expect to stay in the area until you are finished - other guests will steal your towels if you leave too long and you need to pay to replace them (as learned by some people we met at the resort who left to go to the market for 2 hours with saved chairs). I personally think that the act of saving chairs in the shade should be banned as it prevents people from being able to enjoy their vacation....but we happily took places in the shun and went into the shaded VIP pool bar when we got too warm! VIP bar is open from 6pm-9pm and is amazing. Bartenders are wonderful and will go the extra mile to make your drinks special. You can ask to have them turn up the music a bit so long as no one objects and get a dance party going as well, very fun! All in all an amazing vacation, and I will definitely be going back!

Expanded rooms but nothing else was added

Drinks where poor , people taking chairs is the worse I have ever seen ,rooms clean ,food was rotated starting day two never stayed at a place that their was a line up to get into buffets daily , will not be returning not even for free

Good Resort

Everything was awesome for a 3 + resort. Rooms were clean and up to date. Food was good as well. The beach was awesome and the snorkelling was fantastic. Service was great and you were always greeted with a smile, would reccommend this place to anyone who is looking for a great resort for a great price,

Always the best

Everything and everyone was anazing I have stayed there 10 times now and always return. I love the staff they go above and beyond to make you feel at home and relaxed. Entertainment is excellent. The beach is.m beautiful and sandy. The gourmet restaurant is a must especially the asparagus salad and the chicken. The room was very comfortable. I travelled alone and always felt safe

Good hotel

I have been to this resort many times. They have expanded but have not expand the amenities. Too long of a wait for buffet and not enough beach chairs or huts to meet the new section. Hope they get these things fixed. The staff is very good and does make up for some of the issues. I would recommend but with cautions.

Better than ever!

We just returned home from a 2 week stay at the Blau Plus Section. There have been a lot of improvements over the past year. The grounds are well kept and new plants being put in the ground daily. Lots of painting and maintenance has been done and being done now. We enjoyed ourselves to the fullest. The only problem I had was the long line ups at the buffet, especially at breakfast time. It appears that they expanded while including the Plus Section, but didn't expand the buffet. Other than that [... read more] it was an awesome trip. The people are as friendly as ever at the resort. Arriannna and Gary are awesome. If you see Artriannna in the buffet , as she is a waitress, please give her a tip of any kind, she really does a great job and is a very hard worker. Gary at the Plus swim up bar is an awesome bartender as well.

Great Resort

The resort was great and clean.the people were were so great and helpful . They tried to do everything that you asked of them. There was so many different kinds of food so there was food for any one who was hard to feed .I would advice you to update to plus section.The rooms are bigger and cleaner . The plus gets you a special section of your own pool area.Also you get your own bar and special drinks at the bars. The beach area is so sandy and clean also . The only draw back was whe [... read more]n you wanted small change to tip they would only give you 3 pesos every time you asked for change of a cuba money .

Very Nice Resort

The resort is a little larger than what we prefer, however, it is very nice. The food was some of the best that we have had in 13 trips to Cuba. If you are looking to snorkel, this is the resort for you. Great snorkeling for sure.

Blau Costa Verda in Cuba

My husband & I enjoy our stay in Cuba so much that my husband wanted to stay. Beautiful beach, Lovely meals and comfort room. We went one of my daughter and her friend, they both enjoy themselves. We had been to this resort six times now.

Decent option

Clean overall. Fairly good a la carte restaurants. Really, really poor quality mixed drinks - all syrup and sugar, no real fruit - no attempt to make them good. Great cappacino. Very hard to find a decent fresh vegetable or salad. Rooms were clean - not that big, but comfortable. Shortage of chairs at every pool and beach. Not nearly enough shady spots anywhere. Even getting up at 6 am they would be taken already. recommend Blau Plus for rooms and better food and pools - worth the extra [... read more].

Had a great time at Blau.

This is a nice 3-4 star resort. Plus side was full but if we went again, we would upgrade to enjoy more ala carts and the plus side pool in addition to new rooms. Our room was ok - dated but clean and everything worked. People working at the resort were awesome as always in Cuba. Wifi not working when we arrived for a few days but it was fixed and worked great after that. Buffet is like most... gets old after a while. We ate at Cuban restaurant (ok) and Italian (very good). Also ate at th [... read more]e Italian for lunch a couple of times - limited menu but very tasty. We also paid extra to have the lobster dinner and steak dinner at the restaurant by the ocean on our last night... apparently the regular chef was not there that night and if was reflected in the food. The steak dinner was exactly what I could get at the buffet and the lobster dinner severely overcooked. All food was cold. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. They are always fixing and painting and cleaning. Not enough music and entertainment by the pool. Spent 2 days at the beach and it is beautiful however difficult to get chairs but we managed. We did an excursion to Cayo Saetia by catamaran. A stop for snorkelling on the way if you chose to, then a nice jeep ride on the island to see some animals including buffalo, wild pigs, horses, antelope, and a friendly ostrich which you can pet if you like. Buffet lunch was very tasty and then an hour to enjoy the beach. Easy to exchange money at front desk and never ran out.
