Great as ever

We were in building 60 this year which I believe are standard rooms. The air conditioning was adequate but there were times when we wished we could have just blasted it for a minute, but overnight it was cold enough to use blankets, so as I say, adequate. It was only a short walk to the pool, at the far end, and to the buffet and lobby. The water pressure was great and the service staff did a good job cleaning and providing lots of coffee, sugar, water and Cristal beer. The food was noticeably l [... read more]ess impressive this year but there is a national shortage on a lot of staples right now so as with everything Cuban, they make the best with what they have. In addition to the 4 a la cartes, we opted to pay for 2 other dinners. One new one was an outdoor bbq lobster or steak dinner held just outside the lobby, I think it may have been called Bistro, but I'm not certain. It was nice, good food and nice atmosphere. The other was held on the premium side beside the pool, I can't remember the name of it but it wasn't as nice. The food and atmosphere were average and commonly found on the regular free parts of the resort so I don't feel it was worth paying for. The resort was near capacity and there were still lots of chairs to be found at the pool and at the beach, and both counter service and table service were still friendly and efficient. All in all, it was nice, would definitely return again.

Hotel needs some upgrades

We have been to this hotel several times and have never had a problem with the food till now, we found there was not the variety we expected and when asked were told we just come at the wrong time. We were told the weekend we arrived that a delivery of food was arriving on the Monday, it did we have more of a variety for about 2 days then everything was gone again. The staff at this place will go out of there way to make sure you feel welcome, to bad management would not take a lesson from them. We will go back because of the people that work there they are great.

Nice resort, needs refresh.

The resort is nicely laid out and the staff is very helpful and friendly. The huge free form pool is great and the evening entertainment was most enjoyable. The beach area is very nice but need to be aware of mosquitoes at dawn and dusk. Buffet restaurants lack variety and presentation. A la carte restaurants were enjoyable and food quite good. However, the buildings, rooms, and grounds are "tired" and sorely in need of updating. On the whole we had an enjoyable and relaxing week.

A disappointment

We have been to this hotel 7 previous times. The most noticeable le change has been the food selection, in short it was deplorable. Cuba is not known for the greatest food, but in our past visits it was not bad. This time , if you found something you liked it would be gone within 2 to three days. It was as if they put yogurt out for example, and it was a popular item, they wouldn't put it out again. Long story short , we wont be returning to this resort for some time. Ken Milburn

Exceptional resort!!

This was our first time in Cuba and we couldn't have asked for anything better. The service was top notch, food was fantastic, accommodations were immaculate. Everyone helped us with any little thing. Pool is simply spectacular. Beach is so beautiful. Cannot say enough good things about this place. We'll most definitely be back someday soon.

Still a gem

This hotel is still a gem great pool area, fabulous white beach and great a la cartes staff are so friendly, after 15 visits to Cuba this is still my favourite, I have visited this resort 4 times in the last 3years and intend to return Nov 2019, can not say enough about the service, food is as expected on the buffet but the a la cartes exceed themselves rooms are very clean and well stocked with necessities.

Beautiful people and setting

The very best things about this resort in order are: pool, beach, people, weather, grounds, room, and food. We knew not to have high expectations of the food but the quality and selection was worse than expected. My recommendation would be to focus more on offering fewer selections that can be delivered at a higher quality. We paid an additional $260 to upgrade our room and it sounded wonderful but the room had repairs to the bathroom that were sloppily done. Some of the woodwork was in need of [... read more] replacing and a fresh coat of paint would have made a huge difference. The shower was great! The patio was great except there was bird droppings on a chair, located just where your head would rest!! The bed was very comfortable. Entertainment was provided every evening near the coffee bar and that was very enjoyable. Tip to get a good cup of coffee: order an espresso and a cappuccino, drink a bit of the cappuccino and add the espresso. I would only recommend this resort if you are looking for great weather and a great beach.

Amazing resort hotel

It's our 5th time at this hotel. Beautiful resort, amazing people and staff, from check in to check out! Room service was excellent the buffets and restaurants were very good. The VIP dinner was kind of cheap compared to the years before. All the staff from reception area, to waiters and waitresses to gardeners to bar tenders etc. were extreme nice and polite and all speak at least English or French or both languages. One more very important thi [... read more]ng, it is so safe you wouldn't worry a second about leaving your personal things on chairs and going to swim! PS: some younger trainees are working with personnel. Don't leave personnel objects or things like chips, peanuts, or cigarettes on the desk or out of your luggage. My wife was missing one pack of cigarette and a bag of chips (bites and bites). Each time we spoke with the room lady, the trainee could not look at us and was avoiding contact.

Overall Amazing Resort

The staff gave excellent customer service, the amount of food and beverages were provided very almost unbelievable generously, the washrooms need at least a fan and are mostly clean, the pools were perfect temperature and clean, I got sick once from eating a lot of prochuitto but had pills for diarrhea thankfully so be careful, the food was decent - fish and chicken were the best, mojitos and pina coladas and coffee and chocolate drinks were amazing, papaya and mangoes were ridiculously good too [... read more], I was most shocked with how friendly the staff were and how genuine they were. I would definitely go back. The AC in the rooms weren’t enough during the day but good during the night - very cold actually. I went in August and would avoid doing so again because of the heat. The ocean was great for swimming and you could see fish too in terms of its clarity. Overall excellent family vacation for relaxation. There were good tours from the resort too which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I expected more than I actually got

I love Cuba and It was my 5th visit to this country. This hotel lack of entertainment and food. I came to this place looking forward for fun and relaxation. However, on the second day of my stay, I got sick. I couldn't eat or drink anything. Buffet had a limited variety of food and It was not good.

Great resort

This was our 3rd time at this resort. As usual, the staff, restaurant workers, bartenders were kind, and always ready to go that extra mile to make our holiday relaxing and most enjoyable. This resort always provide a wonderful choice of restaurants . The beach is excellent, lots of shady areas and a good supply of loungers. Trying the catamaran ride is a must. Lots of fun. I’m already making plans to return in a few months.

Such a beautiful place to be

Incredible place. Everything was so clean and beautiful gardens. The staff were very attentive and professional. The beach is breathtaking, so many places to tickle your palate and I recommend the Bahama Mamma cocktail. It is a wonderful treat. I will return again. Taking the whole family next year.The flight was great and comfortable.

Amazing resort but not 5*

Excellent beach and people. That is why we come back to Cuba. Food was sometimes delicious and sometimes needed improvement. Everything else was good or better. We had a lovely time there. I found the price each year higher, but it is not a problem with Cuba but with the Canadian dollar losing power:-)

BEST RESORT IN CUBA

"Great Getaway! I have been to seven different resorts, all over Cuba and all at least four star ratings but this was the best, by far. Jose met all of our requests, building 16, second floor with King Size beds. The beds were very comfortable and I usually have a tough time with the pillows but not here. Our ladies that cleaned the room were fantastic and the supervisor Gladys, made sure we recieved everything we needed in our rooms. Front desk was very efficient, special mention to the hard wo [... read more]rking ladies at the coffee train, the Mojito bar, beer garden and the omelet station. The young man serving drinks by the pool, worked tirelessly and the pool guy kept the pools spotless. I was never not greeted with a smile by any of the employees and cannot say anything negative about anyone there. The a la carte restaurants provided the best food I have ever had in Cuba and the people in the buffet were very attentive. I know I am not mentioning everyone but so many of the employee's deserve kudo's for the excellent job they do. When we return to Cuba, it won't be necessary for me to read reviews, without a doubt our destination will be Playa Pesquero! Keep up the good work to everyone there. The only thing missing was dark Creme de Cacao at the lobby bar and perhaps more mixed drinks at the swim-up bar, like they serve in the lobby. Muchas Gracias!"

Amazing beach

Beautiful white sand ,and you never want to get out of the turquoise water. Resort was very nice and clean.The staff is really kind . Rooms are Cuban style , nothing fancy ,but comfortable. Great pools, good food. I like a little more entertainment at night but it was a great vacation.

Playa Pesquera review, Holguin, Cuba

This was our 6th trip to Cuba but our first fist to Holguin, Playa Paquera. We were impressed with the Lobby and facilities which not only were extensive, but would be a suitable location in the event of poor weather in the off season. Numerous photo ops included various items such as a full size gondola, a train engine out front and a coffee bar in the shape of a train, as well. The piano bar is first rate, as is their Theatre productions, that had surprisingly good talent. Buffet is adequate but freshly prepared eggs and sticking to the fish or chicken is your best best. They also had two pig roasts that had long line ups as a testimonial to the taste. Unlike many of the resorts in Veradero, they have not restricted an excessive area to the VIP section, which often made finding a chair by the pool difficult, in the quest for additional profits. There’s a nice chicken place on the boulevard that had a line up daily. Let’s face it, the beach is not as great in Veradero, so if you are there for the beach, this is not the place for you. That said the beach is nice. We did not overly tip with a daily tip for the cleaning of the room and for our wake up capacino. We also brought baseball caps for the ground crew which was much appreciated. We would recommend the tour to Holguin at the end of your stay which included a trip to the city for some shopping, an included lunch, VIP and advanced check in and a few hours in their all inclusive lounge. There’s a surprising number of British tourists and we were told it was a nine hour flight. We plan on returning next year.

Super resort!

The beach is gorgeous. The food is delicious, all restaurants serve lobsters. At the lobby bar are plenty of international drinks. The staff is very friendly. There are lots of activities for all ages.

Beautiful Resort!

Recently returned home from a week's stay at this beautiful resort. Second visit to this resort in 4 years, some updates and changes, but overall still as peaceful as ever. Staff go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable and the best that it can possibly be. Resort is very well maintained, pool grounds are immaculate, and food is plentiful with lots of variety.

Amazing Resort

Thoroughly enjoyed all! Preferred the fresh to make areas of buffets. Great selections. Loved the coffee bar. Enjoyed all al la Carts. Was disappointed that not more available in shops for souvenirs. Loved the beach (a few buried broken glass & rocks in sand made walking uncomfortable) & pool! Great shade around the pool. Could use a few more pallapas at beach. Would have been nice for guests to have direct access to bottled drinking water. A huge resort !

Playa Pesquero is a lovely-looking resort, almost like a lush Italian health spa. From the actual gondola at the entrance, to the fountains and sculptures decorating the lobby, the pool area and the grounds, it is visually very appealing. Everywhere there are swaying palm trees, several different types, tropical fruit trees, hedges and bushes in full bloom, with many different species of birds singing and flying about. The setting is well laid-out and truly beautiful. Our upper floor room in  [... read more]bungalow 45 was spacious, comfortable and very quiet, with a balcony overlooking trees and a grassy area. It was so nice to be woken up by birds tweeting and chirping. Fortunately it was centrally located with only a five minute walk to the beach and to the main buffets. Many were situated much farther away, but there were always small transport vehicles going by if the walking got to be too much. The buffets were very big with masses of food. Meat and fish were in most dishes, so not a lot of choice for vegetarians unfortunately. Local tropical fruit was served at all meals and was ripe, fresh and delicious. For some unknown reason, no pizzas were available at any of the buffets or restaurants, except small ones at a take-out counter down by the beach. We were disappointed by the beach which is quite wide but not very long, and by the lack of shade. It was extremely hot, close to 33 degrees during the 3rd week of February, and finding a spot away from the sun was a daily challenge. The swimming however was great as there were no huge waves to knock you over. It is a good beach for children, very safe, and the water was the perfect temperature. There is excellent snorkeling, with lots of different coloured and sized fish who are not shy about coming close for the treats they seem to expect. It is also a great beach for an outing on one of the colourful catamarans as the wind is especially strong in the morning. There were a lot of smokers at this resort and thankfully the constant breeze was helpful in minimizing this inconvenience. The lobby area was vast with many different comfortable areas to sit and enjoy a drink. It was a very friendly space to be and to enjoy live music. It was our first time ever at a resort to be treated to a concert by a superb violinist (who plays with the Havana Symphony) and to be able to listen to other excellent musicians each evening. What to bring if you choose this resort: lots of 60 spf sunscreen, your most comfortable flip-flops & sunhats for the many km of walking, all the beach gear you can fit in your suitcase, and most of all, lots of smiles and appreciation for the staff who are all such friendly, hard-working and lovely people. I should also add that there were several beach weddings during our 2 weeks at Playa Pesquero. They seemed to have been well-organized and, from an observer's point of view, were lovely ceremonies, with delightful renditions of The Wedding March and other appropriate tunes strummed softly by a trio of Cuban musicians. The bride and groom were seen trotting off in a horse-drawn buggy with the wedding party crowding into the large golf carts. A lot of fun I'm sure was had by all.
