Beautiful Resort

The resort was stunning! There was so much to and see. The buffets and a la carte restaurants were full of great selections and drinks. The staff are the friendliest people ever, always ready to help you in any need. The resort itself had a lot of activities to do, some inclusive while some were extra but it was all worthwhile. Will definitely be returning here again! Excellent for groups and families. I have no complaints at all. Thanks Barcelo for an amazing vacation!

Fabtastic resort

The resort is equipped with high-quality facilities. It got the beach, the sunshine, the pools, the hammocks and everything. The services and the food are great too. I enjoyed my holiday here. Don't want to leave!

Good resort

Food is amazing. Buffet and a la carte are both great. I'll recommend this resort based on food alone. The room could be better though. The ceiling in the bathroom is all patchy. The staff is pretty supportive. The beach is very nice.

Great resort, food and most importantly... a good time!!

The Barceló Maya Colonial Beach was by far one of the best resorts I have ever visited. The food was awesome, there was always a large variety of food and freshly squeezed juices at the buffet. The a la cart restaurants exceeded my expectations, the food was so well done and the restaurants themselves were very nicely decorated to suite their theme. I also really liked the Japanese Teppanyaki restaurant called Tokyo, our cook Carlos was great, he put on a good show and served up some delicious food; the deep fried ice cream at this place was to die for. The hotel itself was very well maintained and the staff were friendly. The beach was great, but my one critique would be that they should try and clean up some of the seaweed, this would make the beach perfect. Another part of this resort I loved was the Maya Mall, there was lots to do and their 24/h bar called Strikers was really fun and came in handy when we wanted late night munchies or drinks. All in all, I had a fabulous trip and would definitely recommend to friends and family or even go back myself!!

Great resort!

The resort was very well maintained, good food and pleasant staff. Even though sport club was well equipped, I would like to make a suggestion about the time slots for rental. I think the time should be increased from 1/2 to a full hour. Other than that all was good, and we had no time to be bored :)

Beautiful Resort with lots to do

The resort was amazing! First of all, it actually looks like the pictures. The beach was beautiful and the pools are very large. The rooms were clean and the staff was helpful. Free wifi would be nice

Amazing resort

The resort was really nice; the resort was well maintaineddone and staff were very friendly and always helpful to assist. The food was good too. They had different meals everyday and also an a la carte dinner if you wanted to get away from buffet food every day

Great resort

Resort is very nice and very big. We stayed at the Barcelona Maya Colonial Aug 18-25, 2017. 5 hotels on the property but you would never really know that. Lots of space, big pools, tons of pool and beach chairs. Service was good but check in process was not - waited in line 30 minutes and we weren't the last ones. More staff needed when the buses arrive from airport. Check out was similar. Beach and ocean were rough/waves for 5 out of 7 days. Somewhat windy on beach (never felt too hot). Food wa [... read more]s excellent but only able to eat at 3 restaurants even though we had 5 to choose from (the others were all booked). But buffet was very good. The mall and market on the resort was a great feature. Surfing machine was a blast for the kids ($15 for 1 hour). Kids were happy to do that once. Cenotes across the street (Eden and Azul) were great ($6 per person) and only a 15-20 minute walk. Lots to do at this resort. Overall impressed and would recommend.

Disappointed and scammed

The property is beautiful but thefood is very poor unless you go to a la carts restaurants! One night in the buffet they had "North America night - had US flags hung everywhere and offered fried foods ... didn't come to Mexico to get American food. At the stations where they cook your meat, fish, hamburgers - they add lots of salt and oil. The food was similar to Cuba even though the hotel claims to be 5 star. It only shows as a 5 star as the waiters watch for opportunities when you are actually [... read more] happy and hand you a survey then so the results are skewed. Extremely slow check in with not even water offered to help tired hot guests. We were bumped from our room as well as several others due to double booking rooms. Beware - upon arriving at airport we were offered excursions at reduced prices in order to hook us into time share presentation - thankfully we got out of it or it would have taken an entire day!!! Extremely long walks to buffet. Poor signage to everything - easy to get lost. Expressed multiple concerns to management - completely ignored! Check out was ridiculous -not only did the employee try to delay us so that we would be forced to take a taxi, the excursions booked at the hotel get registered as a room charge - we purchased excursion for $109 US but upon checkout we were charged $127 US per person and we had 6 people!!! Arguing would have cost us even more so we just offered up the money in complete disgust. Don't book Xel-ha - it's a 9 hour exclusion unless you want to pay to go back to hotel. And by the way. If you really want to go - don't book through hotel. Take a taxi there and only pay $89!!!! Per person. Limited choices for entertainment. Disappointed!

Nice family resort

PROS: -Great layout with a smart design idea to cover path walks from buildings to restaurants/theater. No need to worry about rain or too much sun. -Never short of a natural shade or lounges on the beach. -Clean resort, well maintained. Clean, spacious room, nothing extraordinary. Unfortunately on the ground level very smelly :-( -Nice for snorkeling CONS: -Can't say the food is bad, but not great definitely for this resort level. More grilled fish would be good. Better organized [... read more] restaurant with a clear sign where to look for certain food. -Many additional costs for all inclusive resort (bowling, surf ride, pirate island...) -The beach is short if you like long walk on the sand. -The Dolphinarium is so expensive (the 80$ US just to pet dolphin), it is shame to earn so much money on poor animals)

Great resort!

Absolutely a fantastic resort that I recommend to everyone! Great food, good service, nice beach (even with some occasional rocks). THe restaurant a la carte are on high demands so book them upon your day of arrival. We were able to book 5 out of 7 restaurants since we stayed for 10 days. We tried the Italian, Steak House, Mexican, Japanese and Sea Food. You've got to try the Japanese for sure. The sesame sauce is great and the show is A MUST! Awesome trip!

The hotel was perfect for the 5 adults and three children. Amazing from start to finish. Highly recommended for families! The only downfall is that the resort is 50 mins from the airport. This didn't bother us but it might not be for everyone.

Children fan

Perfect for family with children,service good,room perfect.we have absolut no proablem.dayli beer and the rest vas stock in to the mini bar.food vas OK. but not to much variety,to go in to the see you have to pass 4 feet of roacs. Exelent fly with aer transat.frendly people.I recomand this resort for family with children under 10 years.

Fantastic trip!

Nothing negative to say about the Barcelo. We booked with Karol and he has been nothing but fantastic in terms of service and everything else. The resort itself is breathtaking. Big enough for you to explore all day long. So many things to do. Food, rooms and service were all impeccable!

Go back again anytime!!

We absolutely loved this place. For our first trip to Mexico, it was hard to decide where to go. After many days of research. We came up with barcelos. Best decision we've ever made. Already planning another trip in Christmas time. Highly recommend this place.

Great resort! Amazing beach!

This resort is beautiful! The food was really good, the beach is one of the best beaches I've seen, the staff is very friendly. I workout so I thought the gym was excellent! The downside was it does get quiet in the evenings at this resort unless you go to the one resort night club which had a lot of people and good music, if you don't feel like clubbing though there is not much entertainment at night ,I wish the theatre shows were better, they were a bit boring. Overall it was a wonderful experience for both of us. First visit and definitely not our last Entire Barceló Resort was absolutely beautiful, spotless grounds "manicured". Restaurant staff were friendly but obvious language issues made conversation challenging but that wasn't unexpected. Always greeted pleasantly by a hostess for dinner Staff at front desk and other guest services were very helpful. Nighttime shows were okay but not that exciting. Our room was very spacious and more than comfortable.

It's All That!

I booked this resort for my 18 year old son and I for a last minute trip. Our intended goal was to relax and enjoy some sun. This we did! This resort was the right place at the right time. One part of the hotel was very busy with groups but the Colonial was not part of that party scene. A walk around the pier to the Beach/Caribe side revealed it also to be quiet. I enjoyed the tranquility while my son was able to go make friends. Room was good for our needs. Our minibar never worked and w [... read more]as never addressed despite promises to do so but it was not a big deal for us. The beach & pools were fantastic.

Amazing Resort

Service was first class, beautiful grounds, excellent food and drinks. Beach was long and had some sandy areas and other areas were great for snorkeling. There was lots to do and see. I plan on going back to this resort next year. I shot over 2 1/2 hours of video while I was there. Amazing beautiful resort

Excellent food, very clean, friendly staff, beautiful gardens and great beach. The weather was perfect, couldn't of asked for a better vacation. Will be returning with the rest of the family one day. The resort is big takes awhile to figure out your way around, but worth exploring.
