Great Resort

I was worried about going to this resort due to reviews, but I liked it.. We arrived at 11 am and got registered right away we had 2 rooms booked and received the 1st room right away and the other after 3... There is lots of walking but I didn't mind, food was common Cuba food sure wasn't as bad as I was expecting, pools were clean, room was cleaned daily and we always had towel art left for us, staff very pleasant...

Good bang for your buck

Going into my vacation, i was hesitant. I read a lot of good, and bad reviews on Memories Varadero. Overall its a nice place, the food was mediocre, nice beaches, nice pools, nothing to really complain about except our room and the customer service. Our room wasn't bad itself, but our maids didn't come till the evening, and would just refold our wet, used towels some days. The help desk was horrible, they brushed off what you had to say, and just wrote it in a book. If you complain, or request s [... read more]omething, you will have to do it again, and again till you get what you need/want. For what i paid, I'm not complaining. If you get a deal, then memories is worth your money.

Good value

Overall, the resort was a good value. We we went in a group of 18 people (10 yrs - 65 yrs). We were satisfied with the rooms - they were kept clean, toilets flushed, and shower had plenty of hot water. The beach was beautiful with lots of lounge chairs and palapas for shade, pools were great with plenty of chairs and shade. There were times when there were no towels available (in room or beach towels), but it was not a big deal. The staff were warm and welcoming, always smiling, and did their best with what they had available. We did have a few issues: - public washrooms were often lacking toilet paper and soap. When we asked for a little bit of soap from the snack bar kitchen (since they must have soap for preparing food), the staff confirmed there was no soap in the kitchen either - eww!! - we were not given a bottle of water every day in our room, and the staff said there was none available. - out of our group of 18 people, 7 people were sick with food poisoning/contamination for two days. There were many other people who we spoke to on the resort who were also sick at the same time. This was not suprising given the lack of infection control procedures / food handlers knowledge. - money exchange was a hassle, and small bills for tipping were not available. We did enjoy our holiday for the most part, but I would not return to this resort.

Nice resort

Memories Varadero has beautiful grounds the public washrooms are needing cleaning and some renovations the rooms themselves were clean all although I found bugs on the hallways and the rest of the premises other than that the food was mediocre and the beach is beautiful The drinks were made very strong if you like that type of drink they ran out of some drinks at certain times ful capacity resort made it extremely busy and very loud At times...

Great Vacation

It was our 4th or 5th time to Cuba. All the staff provide good service here. The first room we got was fairly rough.. just a bit of something wrong with everything.. smell of mold, toilet was loud and took for ever to refill and did not flush well, balcony door was super hard to open or close, bed was super hard and you could feel the springs popping through, etc. etc. But it was not bad enough to get angry and demand a new room in my opinion... but what a disappointment.. even though the revie [... read more]ws prepared me for it. A couple days in my wife accidentally broke the shower faucet off, due to it being completely corroded, and it was the best thing that could happen to us because we got moved to a new room that was much much better. We are used to Cuban resort cuisine so we managed just fine.. however the snack bars food was really hit and miss. We went on two tours. The best day ever was the private tour of Havana with Cuban Trip Compass. And we also did the Jeep Safari group tour and that was loads of fun too.

GREAT PLACE

pools were great/food was good/rooms were great but is a very large resort and we to old to walk from the beach to the buffet and from our room so they graciously moved us closer to everything. The customer service was awesome.

Incredible place

Had an amazing time, friendly staff and decent service, landscaping was wonderful and overall gorgeous place, celebrated my birthday here and was very much satisfied, surpassed my overall expectations

Great time!!!

This resort was great!, Lots of nice people working there, and for Cuba...hotel was clean and tidy! Food was decent, wish we would have been able to have more a-la-cartes, instead of just 2. needed more variety in the meals, since there is only 1 buffet restaurant to eat at.

Mediocre Resort

Not what I expected at all..very large, 15 min walk to the beach. Rude workers (expected a tip or sometimes wouldn't offer help) When maid service was carried out, sheets or towels were never exchanged. Food was not impressive - I think I lost weight on an all inclusive resort Bar staff at the quiet pool were amazing, by far the highlight of the resort. Amazing Hotel Experience

Hotel is very clean. Staff is extremely friendly. Language barrier is not a problem. Every day was packed with many activities at the resort. Beach life was great, beach volleyball, parasailing, sleeping and tanning. Pool side was awesome, with a huge tube slide. Felt like I never left Canada, so many Canadians at the resort. Weather is blessed.

Our Best Cuban Holiday so far!

The resort was fantastic-something for all of us (13-75 age span! Shows were very good and proffessional. The staff an people of Cuba were so pleasant . Curteous-my mother ha ha travelled to Cuba before I could not stop s how the f ood was quit good (we opted for a seaside lobster dinner! YUM) an the people are so wonderful.

Wonderful beach

Had a wonderful vacation in Cuba as always . This was my first visit to Varadero .The beach was excellent the best in Cuba. The resort was large, a lot of walking which was fine but at night the pathways needed more lighting. The food was a bit better than most Cuban resorts I stayed at prior.The grilled fish was very good.The drinks were not good most came from the slushy machine which didn't work very well as most of the time they were not slushy cold. The bars kept running out of ice and a lo [... read more]t of ingredients such as tonic water, mint, lime .The Spanish coffee was very good.The rooms needed a lot of work the maids did an excellent job as they were kept clean neat and tidy but the room felt damp and musty even with the air conditioner and there was a lot of mold on the walls and curtains. There was always lots of hot water and great pressure.We had no issues with the toilet in our room.The maid always left us fresh towels and water everyday. Any of the public bathrooms I used were functioning and clean.The buffet main dining room was very warm just wonder why they don't use the ceiling fans. The smaller beach buffet was great for breakfast and lunch in the mornings if your rooms were close to the beach,but not a fan of the many birds feasting on the buffet .The grounds were beautiful and well kept .Cant tell you much about the pools as we spent all our time at the beach . They looked clean. Sunwing were on top of there game this year no delays either way thumbs up ! This is my sixth year travelling south and booking with trip central which always serves us well .Would I book this hotel again probably not but would not discourage anyone else from using it if the price was right. Best resort we have ever stayed at!!

Wow...the food was awesome,fresh fish on the grill every night.So much to choose from.The bacon at Breakfast,was delish.Our room was well cleaned,amazing staff.The resort was huge,grounds were looked after well.The beach was the best!! The cave was great...loved the drinks!

Best trip so far.

The resort and its staff was wonderful. I loved the food and variety of a la cart restaurants there were on site. The nexus staff at the resort was always available to help us out, no matte how crazy out excursion schedule was (one a day). Love all the day trips we went on. The only negative I have is the "cuban time". Out buses were sometime late which ate into out day trip time. Other than that it was an overall wonderful trip.

Ok resort

Understaffed. A lot of broken items probably due to unruly guests. Example: punch holes in doors, broken fixtures. Generally, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The beach was the best ever. Lots of palipas and chaises. Would recomend lodging in the quiet pool area. Be prepared for lots of walking between lobby and beach but a day on the beach is so worth it.

Great week

Overall good resort, large but walking for us not a problem. Variety of food good, except fruit, most food items were not labeled, did not like birds flying around the buffet. Rooms adequate, lots of hot water for showers. Beach lovely.

Great Bang for the Buck

Beach is beautiful, food is good... better than we thought going in. The staff are very nice. The resort is huge (a kilometer or more from front to back) so get ready to walk as the golf cart shuttles they have do not come around often enough. Only small thing is they would run out of ice and alcohol from time to time.

Wonderful wonderful experience in every way

The lay out was excellent! Very clean, pretty! 3 pools swim up bar. Quiet pools for is old folks. Lots of activities for kids. Lobby spacious clean. Lots of room in dining room. The staff everywhere was so amazing!

Starting to get run down needs to up grade.

Grounds are in pretty good shape ,but we had no air conditioning for 3 days .each day they seen to run out of ice ,liquor,and other things for drinks.the resort is just to large for my liking but the staff was very nice to us.

Terrible

Downgraded a lot Pools were murky and smelly Cave bar had a sewage smell in it Public bathrooms disgusting Only so many were opened at a time No toilet paper in alot of the bathrooms We spent most of time at beach A/C didn't work days in our rooms Would never go back
