LOVE the updates!!!

We hadn't been back to the Luxury Bahia Principe Ambar for a couple of years, although we have been there for 6 vacations. Since our last visit, there have been many updates done. I love the swim up suites and the new room decor. It's fresh and clean in all the rooms. The food is still as good as ever and the buffet rocks!!! We will be back again!!!!

Great vacation

The grounds were beautiful, well maintained and very large. Staying at Ambar allowed us to go to the other sister resorts which was nice if you wanted a change. Did the swim out room which was definitely worth it as I was in it everyday. Loved the restaurant m.e.a.t definitely worth it. The foam party and silent disco were the two highlights of activities for me. Wonderful trip overall and great staff.

Beautiful resort.

Everything is so well maitained, the grounds, rooms. Pools and restaurants. We loved the staff as they are friendly and helpful. Lots to eat and drink and plenty to do I felt safe walking around the grounds but remained cautious when my husband was not with me.

Beautiful Swim-up Rooms

We went to Ambar from September 28-October 7 in a swim-up room (our second time) Food was amazing, Staff are beautiful people and very hospitable. They have changed a few things since our last visit such as more activities at the pool which we did not partake in, we just wanted leisure and relaxation. Its not a 5 star its a 10star. Newly renovated rooms!

It's my second time staying here at Bahia Principe. It has been newly renovated with new rooms and facilities like the gym and sports bar. Service is amazing. The staff still remember me from 2 years ago!

Very Nice Resort. But Not Without Some Flaws

My husband and I stayed at the Ambar on August 5th-15 in a swim - up room. Here is an overview of a bit of everything : Room: We loved the swim up room. It was clean and comfortable and well the interior design was beautiful Con: The bathroom had only one sink with limited counter space. There was also nowhere to hang anything in the bathroom so trying to hang up make up cases or wet bathing suits had to be put over the shower walls. The pool for the swim up was cleaned constantly a [... read more]nd spacious. We enjoyed it every day. Ice Machine: This we found odd. There was no ice machine for guests to use. In order to get ice we had to call room service. They did bring it but in such hot climates guests tend to use a lot of ice and waiting each time was a bit silly. Con: The room service menu is very limited especially for anyone who's vegetarian. Con: There were only about 3 English speaking tv channels and they played marathons of the same shows most of the time. This may seem like not a big deal but it's something to consider if you're stuck indoors due to illness or if the weather is inclement and you're indoors. Butler Service : Our butlers were Jean and Greydin. There were excellent. If you can request them we highly recommend it. There were knowledgeable, thoughtful and wonderful. They added a quality to our vacation that was fantastic. The Grounds: The landscaping and grounds were immaculate. Restaurants : We went to Portfino's Italian restaurant and loved it. The service and food were excellent. We went twice while we were there. The Buffet : It had many options and themed nights which was nice. A big issue for myself was the labelling of the food. I do not eat meat except fish and many food items were not labelled to explain what was in it. For example there would be a dish that appeared as it could be fish or another meat without saying what meat was in it. When I inquired the staff didn't understand which was frustrating. We even found out how to ask if there was meat in Spanish and they were still confused or told us there was no meat when there was. Other foods were labelled as if they were vegetarian but weren't. Example "Chickpea vegetable soup" Which after I took a bowl of, I discovered that there was ham in it. I'm glad I noticed before eating it. This happened frequently. It is a simple fix that on the label it could simply say words like " Beef" or "Pork" because people could get ill. We also found that many of the food items were extremely salty. Also a bit of frustration occurred if we wanted to take our food and eat outside of the restaurant on the patio portion. Some staff said yes and others said no. At one point I wasn't very mobile and had to stay in my room and my husband was not permitted to bring me some food from the Buffet to our room. And yet if I were to order room service there was nothing I could eat. The Coffee Shop : It was clean and had a lot of options for coffee and dessert lovers. We enjoyed sitting outside and having a coffee or tea every day. And the desserts were beautiful and delicious. The Lobby : The Lobby was clean and immaculate. In the Lobby there is a desk where there are people trying to sign you up for their rewards program is. We received an invite in our room to learn about it and ignored it. It is a waste of time and money and we've seen it in other resorts. One staff member at that desk was pushy to the point he basically told us " This is how I make a living. I just need you to go to the meeting and I'll get paid." We did not go on our vacation to help him earn his paycheck. And no one wants to go on their vacation only to have on day two people trying to sign you up for something you've already declined. If you see this desk or they approach you, we suggest you politely decline and keep moving. The Lobby Store: If you like munchies like sweet or salty snacks we suggest you stock up at Duty Free. The Lobby store has items for purchase and they are very expensive. E.g one very small snack size package of M&Ms was $3.00 USD The Beach: Beautiful and well maintained. There were many chairs and tables available. Entertainment : There was a variety of entertainment . It was really enjoyable. The bands were fantastic. The dance shows were also beautifully choreographed. A few guests on the resort had mentioned to us a confusion about alcohol. Apparently there were alcoholic beverages that you actually had to pay for. We never ran into that problem but they told us upon trying to order a Corona at the Sports bar the server told them it would be $5.00 USD yet it's supposed to be an all inclusive and on the website it states that all alcohol including premium is included. The Sports Bar also boasts pool tables and yet you have to buy tokens to play which is ridiculous. Overall it was a pleasant trip. I think if the above mentioned issues were resolved it would be more likely that we would return.

Wonderful holiday

Amazing resort

This is a great hotel with great crews, including room cleaning maids, gardening crews, maintenance crew. I have no problem in finding a crew who speaks English. Crews greet you with a smiling face and friendly. The hotel is clean and the food is good, except couple times, the beef and lamb are over cooked, therefore hard to chew.

Amazing Vacation

We just came back from the Luxury Bahia Principe Ambar in Punta Cana and it was amazing!! Swim up room was perfect (get a corner if possible) food was surprisingly very good in the restaurants and the buffet had plenty of selections. Excellent drinks, incredible service. Absolutely loved the cafe and sportsbar, get the wings!! Managers always checking in. Beach did have some issues with seaweed but they worked all day to remove. Otherwise beautiful. Lots of shade and chairs.

Wonderful Honeymoon

We had a wonderful 14 day honeymoon in a swim up suite. Great state, great coffee shop, wonderful food and atmosphere! Would return again! The managers and staff were so friendly and the rooms were modern and well cleaned. We loved every second of our stay. Thank you so much!

Paradise

Literally the best resort we’ve been to! Such a pleasure. Staff was amazing, food was amazing, entertainment was amazing! The resort is new and clean and everything is well organized so we are extremely happy and will definitely return. No complaints at all! The only thing is we wish we could’ve stayed longer! 1 week here is not enough.

Excellent resort.

The grounds was well manicure. Room was a 4*. Service was excellent and restaurant was ok. The best alacart was Italian and Japanese. Some improvements can be done in lobby washrooms. Staff was very goof and helpful.

Amazing Resort!

This was our 5th visit to the Luxury Ambar and first since the renovation. Best visit yet! Everything about this resort is fantastic. It’s a quiet resort and by 10:30 pm it’s very quiet which is how we like it. We love this resort and will be back.

Amazing Resort BUT

I chose this resort because it had relatively very good ratings. The restaurants, buffet, grounds and hotel rooms were fantastic. BUT- after travelling for over 25 years to various destinations, hotels and resorts it was the first time I git bed bug bites. Many of them. I didn’t know what they looked like until I looked them up. I asked to change rooms and got the run around until I was so frustrated that I walked myself to a service person at the lobby of where my room was. She visibly n [... read more]oticed I was not happy. She changed our room to a smaller one and offered no apologies or compensation for the trouble or to make up for the smaller room. I did mention the issue to a csr who was taking feedback at the MEATS restaurant. She said it was impossible because the hotel was renovated a few months back and it was probably sand flies. This was a false answer and poorly responded and handled. On our flight back there several people who complained of bed bug bites. I happened to have a conference call one morning while I was there and witnessed the cleaning lady clean the room. There is basically nothing that is done. They make it look tidy. There is no real cleaning. They need to oay more attention to cleanliness in the rooms.

Perfect vacation

The resort was exceptional. The rooms where clean, calm, comfortable. The food at the main buffet was always amazing. Lots of options for every taste and great themes trough the week. The beach was cleaned every day and the beach bar had an exceptional service. We enjoyed the coffee shop every day. We are not fans of animation, party's and restaurants a la carte, so we did not attend does events and places. But our vacation was perfect. Lots of beach volley ball, kayak and great times. Top quality resort!

This resort was amazing. The rooms were clean and up to date. Staff were all friendly and welcoming. The grounds, walkways, gardens were all perfect. The food was awesome. Large drink selections. Was a top quality resort.

The Best

THis was the best 5* we have ever enjoyed! The grounds, lobby, bars, buffets, and a la cartes were luxurious and plentiful. The pools were huge and how could you ever go wrong with Bavaro beach...one can walk forever!! Our 2 buffets had huge selections of delicious foods...as good as the a la cartes..only more variety! The staff were hand-picked to make this a fantastic holiday for their guest tourists. We have been to the Secrets and Sandals resorts (and they are superior) but Bahai Principe A [... read more]mbar was the most luxurious 5* we have yet to visit!!! Our full THANKS go to ourTripCentral vacation advisor, Tammy Beamish, for recommending Bahai and booking our first class ticket with Air Canada Bahai is now added to our list of Super(ior) Resorts. The resort guests were from all over the world...interesting to hear so many multi-lingual conversations...and everyone super friendly...great experience!!!

Needs improvements

The little things stop this resort from being a 5 star. Only two outlets in the room, none near the bed if you even brought your own clock radio which they don’t have in the rooms. Lopsided toilet seat that’s screw down that way. How does that get by final inspection? Inconsistent maid service, sometimes 10am then other days 5pm and you never got the same amount of towels. Never saw facecloths after the first day. Majority of staff very friendly but others too busy on their phones to even a [... read more]cknowledge you. Standard buffet food so you never went hungry but who serves chicken wings, mashed potatoes or even pork chops for breakfast? A la cartel restaurants overall descent but book your reservations before you go and don’t worry about dress clothes as you can wear anything and still get in. Get ready to play towel game if you want front row at the beach otherwise there are lots of loungers farther back.

It is an oka resort not the best

The only reason l am giving my opinion is because l have a travel and hotel degree and have been to many islands and resorts so l can easily do the comparison. The resort itself is pretty and very clean. The landscaping is up to date and everything looks fresh. I am used to getting checked in, getting my room key and unpacking just as you would expect to do, however it did not go down that way. Wrong room to start with and by the time l got the right room a day and half went by before l could e [... read more]ven up pack. Check your bracelet because l wasn't the only one where it didn't work. My combination on my safe never worked neither so l couldn't get at my money until someone came and fixed it and yes it was much, much later. Now if you want to go to the beach or the pool you must get up no later than 7:00AM or you WILL NOT GET a lounge chair, cabania or tent ANYWHERE. l Wish someone would have told me this but by the 3rd day l caught on and believe me when l tell you that when you walk to the pool or down by the beach with your towel you will see tons of towels on lounges claiming that spot., Every one must be setting their alarm before 7AM. I know by now that when you go to a different place things like this happen so l tried to brush it off. Went to dinner came back and no room cleaned. It finally got cleaned 2 days later!!!! What do you do when they tell that they forgot. They have specialty restaurants at this resort but if you want to go to any of them you have to book the minute you get down there or they will be gone and you get only the buffet. On my second night l wanted to book the Brazilian and told it was all gone and so where all the others and all they could do was say sorry about that. The problem is even though l mentioned it to the manger (because not too many speak english) he seemed concerned but just pushed it forward on to his workers who didn't follow through, so by now I look like l am the one doing the complaining. So l suppose at this resort you have to accept the fact that it does not have the greatest service, they try hard but that's it. One more thing even though it has 24 concierge service it is very poor. One night l ask for a blanket had to call 8 times before l got through and then they came he had a sheet in a bag and never spoke on word of english. I finally got my blanket the last day l was leaving, what a joke. The majority of money comes from Canada and U.S so you would assume that this resort would have more english speaking workers. This hotel needs a lot more organization and I would rate this at best a 3 star.

Amazing Resort

The resort was great. The grounds are always kept clean and grass was always cut and watered. At night the grounds looked beautiful with the lights and you can see where your walking to. The staff was very attentive and always there when you needed something. We had the swim out room which is a new feature at the resort and it was an amazing thing to have because the pool closed at 6:00 pm. Great touch.
