Pretty Good Value for the Money

We did enjoy ourselves very much at this resort and thought the food was excellent. As I would suggest to anybody, stay away from anything fried or that you can visibly see oil on and you will be ok. We had lobster, crab, sushi, swordfish and other great items during the week from the buffet. This is not something you will see at most resorts this price. We had a king size bed in our room and it was comfortable compared to most resorts. The room was average and clean but not exceptional. The sta [... read more]ff were nice but a bit slow at the bars, could use a bit more staff there. The grounds and beach are very nice with a good amount of loungers. One items that needs improvement is the public washrooms which are very smelly and require more cleaning. The towel policy is something to pay attention to, the staff will pick up your towel and you will have to pay $15 CUC for it, ours were taken from our bag along with our sunglasses on the beach and we still had to pay. Suggest you take your own beach towels and give theirs back as soon as you check in. Who steals towels? Seems like a scam to me and it did anger me that they have no interest that you were robbed they just want the money!

Wonderful time

We enjoyed a wonderful vacation at Iberostar Laguna Azul. The food was delicious. The pools and grounds were clean the beach was fantastic The staff were helpful and pleasant. The rooms were tired and I feel need a little upgrading and maintenance for sure but they were clean. The price was a deal. My first time to Cuba and I will definitely be going back.

Amazing Resort

The beach is awesome and is just a short walk a bar in the beach the pool is very nice as well. Food is good a few places where you can get food in the resort 24 hours did not use the spa or the fitness room to comment about it. Overall a had a wonderful time

Rocky staret to vacation

Sunwing was late leaving Halifax for no reason it seems therefore we were late arriving Cuba supposed to be 8PM . The service on flight was very poor. I had my snack garbage on my table until announcement for landing, not any crew member came to collect so I threw onto th floor beneath my feet to be able to place the table in the locked upward position for landing. The space between seats in front was very small I now know what a sardine feels like in a can.When we arrived at our destination we [... read more] had to stay on our hot stuffy plane for about 45 minutes waiting for a gate. We arrived at hotel about midnight for check in. Hotel gave us our room where we proceeded to find the room did not have any door on the safe, no towels and phone not working so we immediately went back to the lobby to request a change or room issues fixed. We did get another room eventually only to find this room also did not have a door on the safe, the refrigerator was not working;there was water all over the floor, so we were than told to stay here for the night and another room would be available the next day. We were now hungry, so we found the 24 hour snack bar to eat, then back to our room only to find the air conditioner was on high and could not be turned of. We spent a cold first night shivering in our bed. Next morning we were told a better room would be available at 3;PM in the afternoon. We spent our first day very unsettled and was ruined due to bad planning by hotel for in coming guest. I would never stay with this resort ever again and will never again fly with sun wing .

Could use improvment

grounds and public areas were lovely. rooms were not cleaned adequately. buffets and meals were very good. problem areas could be dealt with more quickly ie. the elevator was not working properly for 3 days so had to use stairs with a very bad knee. requests made many times with no action even after discussing requests with guest services manager and promises to rectify. bar fridges need to be better stocked 1 bottle of water and 2 beers every 2 days is not adequate. aside from many unpleasa [... read more]nt issues we did enjoy the resort very much. for the most part we just accepted the shortcomings.

the rooms needs some updates ,everything else was very wonderful .elevator was not working at all times.some issues with cleaning rooms & fulling the bar fridge also 1 bottle of water for couple of days.

Excellent Resort

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Iberostar Laguna Azul from February 14-21, 2019. The staff was very friendly, polite and professional. Rooms were very tidy and comfortable. Food was excellent and so was the entertainment. Swimming pools were great and the beach environment was, needless to say, excellent. We were blessed with excellent weather for the whole week! Iberostar Laguna Azul

Wonderful beaches and pools. Staff is friendly and helpful. We had a few inconveniences like a lack of Wifi (pay $1 CUC/hr.), shower head plugged with deposits (no water pressure in shower), no hot water one day and remote to TV broken but replaced. Although these things happened, we had a great trip and excursions were easy to book. Food at buffet was okay but the Japanese a la cart was fantastic. It has small shops throughout for purchase of souvenirs/necessities and entertainment every night. Overall a nice place to vacation with the family.

Not a bad time

Room was 2/5. No bottled water or beer for 2 nights. Mild and mildew on the walls and shower had to be held because of no bracket. Food 3/5. Buffet was okay. Same food every single day. Edible. 24 hr snack bar avoid. They have birds eating out of food trays. A la Cary was good Japanese. Beach was awesome and pool as well. Excellent service at the cigar lounge and pool. Lovely resort!

We really enjoyed our vacation at this resort. The beach and pools were amazing. The food was good but a little bland. The food could have used more spice. The staff were very friendly. The entertainment was excellent. The singers and dancers were very talented. The bars were good and the drinks tasted great. We were a bit disappointed to find two single beds in our room. We felt that the resort needed some maintenance. For example, we heard that some shower heads did not work, some safes did no [... read more]t close, some doors in the lobby did not close properly, some phones did not work, some railings were broken, some rooms were without water for brief periods and the rooms smelt musty. Overall, we were pretty pleased with most things.

Amazing resort for sure

My husband and I travelled to this resort from feb 1-8 2019. We have never been to this resort but been to Cuba many many times. We had a very pleasant stay. We booked an oceanview room which was very nice. Our beds were so soft and comfortable, the pillows were also very nice other than I find them huge as they are double size, but still very soft. So we were pleasantly surprised at the great beds and pillows at this place. Our fridge was topped up daily and we always got a big bottle of water which was great. Our room was nice and clean along with the whole resort. Gardeners are doing a beautiful job at keeping the place looking fabulous. The food was good. Lots to pick from at the buffet. We booked the steak el- cart one and the steak was so tender and done perfect. Usually I order medium rare but I feel they don’t cook the meat long enough so we ordered them med well and they were perfect. Very tasty too The staff was all very polite and happy to help you. The beaches of course are always great. Nice sand in this are. There was lots of lounge chairs and Palapas to get some shade if you wanted too. The beach in this area was very large so lots of room. There was never any seaweed on the beach either. We had perfect weather everyday. Not a drop of rain , sunny and temp in the 82* range. We don’t sit around the pool but lots of room there as well and the pools were sparkling clean so well taken care of. The pool had the betterloingeea which isn’t really fair aa we don’t sit at pool. So we had the hard loungers. I don’t have anything bad to say about the resort except it could use more sitting places in the lobby area and also cut the smoking insidecopletely out. There was lots of places out side to smoke and lots of chairs. I think they are trying to stop the smoking inside as they don’t have ashtrays but people still sat inside and smoked and they would put ashes on the floors. Which is extremely rude. I couldn’t believe people actually do this. I felt bad for the people working there who had to clean up after them. Other than that the resort was wonderful and we would consider going back again. They had some very good entertainment every night for an hour. The preformers did a great job. We really like the romantic night and the rock and roll bands. Lots of entertainment going on all day as well. Great resort I defiantly recommend this place.

Fun and relaxing

Big enough so that if you want fun, you can have it...if you want peace and quiet, you can have that too. Room was clean, most things worked well, housekeeping was wonderful. Food, you don't go to Cuba for the food. It was good enough. The specialty restaurants were a bit of a let down, especially for a vegetarian. The pasta bar in the main buffet was a huge letdown...half cooked pasta. Al dente and undercooked pasta are not the same thing. Learned to ask questions about exchange rates then was treated fairly after that. I like to tip well but hate being cheated. Nothing to do with the resort but the Custom's Agent at the airport was over the top mean....seething with anger actually, made me want to leave Cuba asap. Not sure why they think harassing travelers like that is good for their tourist industry. .

Had A Great Time at the Iberostar Laguna Azul

This hotel is in a great location,close to town of varadero to explore or get something good to eat.There is a lot of shops for all your souvenir needs.We traveled from Jan 28 through Feb 5 and the weather was fantastic.I went shore fishing every morning and caught fish everyday.If you go to the buffet and ask head chef for bait he will gladly give you some.A tip goes along way.The resort is laid out very well with all the a la carte restaurants in one location.The food was average in buffet,I h [... read more]ighly recommend the Japanese restaurant,they cook it right in front of you very cool.The rooms are big a well appointed you have everything you need(a little dated)but beds are comfy and pillows were great.The pools were kept very clean,workers cleaning every morning.All the wait staff where friendly and always smiling.We did not go on excursion as I have been to Cuba more then 25 times,I rent a scooter for the week and go exploring myself.As for the currency exchange it was horrible at the resort (100 Canadian for 69 cuc ).If you goto the American Mall down the road the exchange was much better (100 canadian for 73 cuc).They have a double decker bus that tours varadero and resorts,it costs 5 cuc for all day pass well worth the money.The grounds were well appointed and kept very clean.There was no bugs the whole week.Overall experience I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.If you have any questions please contact my email.Thanks for ready Scott

Great!

Very clean, staff were friendly, we upgraded to a suite and it was well worth the money. The layout of the hotel was great and everyone was very helpful. Shows were funny and the bars were easy to get a drink from.

Beautiful resort right on the beach

Iberostar Laguna Azul is a very attractive resort just to be in. The lobby is large and spacious with a beautiful large patio overlooking the pools and on towards the ocean. Sea or pool - your choice since they are steps apart. Okay, rooms could do with some updates and there were minor repairs needed here and there but everything was very clean all the time. Food was - Cuba - so adequate but plentiful. Staff were all extremely friendly and attentive - not a bad word to be said overall, for the [... read more] price the reset was unbeatable.

Amazing resort

Staff were great and very friendly, front counter staff could use a little refresher on friendliness but overall they were good. Loved the pools and beach right there was perfect, a short ride to town; we took taxis as trying to get on the bus was impossible for 7 of us so we just bartered two cabs. Food was good, and had good variety.

Great resort

Hotel was good overall, staff were very friendly and always smiling. Food was good, we took our own ketchup from Canada(tip from fellow traveller there). Was nice to be right on the beach and walking distance to marina and a short drive to town for day trips

Not a 5 star!

This hotel might have been 5 star in the past but it is not 5 star anymore. The rooms were dated, the fans, showers heads, etc broken, mattress, bedding & towels old & worn out. The Japanese restaurant doesn't really serve Japanese food, they can call it anything but Japanese. The restaurant close to the beach doesn't keep the service & food until the exact closing time & the dishes were empty half-hour before closing time. The staff are polite & kind & the night shows were great.

Needs some updating

The first rooms we were assigned to were terrible building 20 I believe. They were dated, dirty and not at all five star quality. After negotiating with front desk we ended up in building 16 which was where we stayed previously and it was nice! But not enough beds. Overall the resort has lovely grounds. Great pool ocean front is amazing. The entertainment was great! Only would recommend ocean view building 16!

Hidden Gem

It was a beautiful hotel, accommodations were amazing, beach was great, and the staff was super friendly. What more could you ask for in a resort. Food was as best as cuba could offer, and the entertainment was superb.
