Villa Natura: Villa Iguana, Cayo Largo, Cuba

Chambres très correct, Nourriture très de base, pratiquement jamais de fruit ou légume frais, Plage presque inexistante au Villa Iguana à cause des tempêtes, zone trop dangereuse pour se baigner mais aucun problème, une toute petite marche et c’est réglé, Manqué d’eau et d’electricité sur les 3 derniers jours mais c’était généralisé sur l’Ile... Villa Natura: I was very impressed

I was there for a week in late March 2018, celebrating my 33rd bday, my 1st time in cuba, and it was my first solo-trip. The overall friendliness of the staff is most important in my opinion, and I'd say everyone at villa iguana was ok-to-great. This resort is just enough for me, the topless optional beach, i had good cleaning ladies, no bugs or major issues, a shop, some entertainment, no blasting music all day (usually only at the bar). I was also impressed with the food, i wouldn't eat meat or dairy over there though just to be safe. I didn't get sick. Of course only drink bottled water, ask the cleaning lady daily, and also leave her a tip daily. Although, I'm surprised they didn't have a bigger selection of beer, so i was a little disappointed. Sure they have good house wine though, rum, vodka, cappuccino, coffee, etc. It's 16+ , sure i like kids but it's relaxing not having them in your way when you're drinking and smoking and have them running around bumping into you. Although, i don't really understand why people bother mentioning gay couples, i think i only saw 1 couple, false advertising for some. Nonetheless, the resort felt like a regular small gay-friendly town of-this-era to me. I'm sure everyone felt welcomed as they were at this resort. Sure i got exposed to naked dicks (mostly heterosexual ones), but i learned about them in grade school, so i can't possibly be "offended" by them anyway. But i was mostly-to-very satisfied overall. Yes i wasn't expecting much but yes I'd go back. Definitely beats working for your bday as well lol One major dissatisfaction is towards sunwing though, i arrive at YUL seeing that the flight has been delayed 2 hours even though i confirmed the same morning, waited at the gates and been delayed about another 1/2 hour with no info. I have NEVER seen a sunwing rep thru my entire travel experience neither at the airport, nor at the resort, nor on my way back. I really had to manage completely on my own, if it weren't for word of mouth and the receptionists at the resort i would of probably be still stuck in cuba. On my flight on the way back, we were delayed because obviously some other travellers got their times messed up. Sunwing personnel tells us it'll take 5mins. Ends up the airport personnel wanted to screw around with the travellers telling them the plane already left and that they were f***ed. Which was bull. Only one plane there man, the big white and orange one bro. Turns out we waited there 45mins untill the travellers got to the plane running, then another 5-10mins for the damn paperwork. Yeah, way to go sunwing. Sunwing wanted to make a 6 year old sign a paper saying she was intoxicated on the plane going to cuba. 6 year olds don't get drunk and don't sign papers... The mother was pissed obviously. Really bad impression of sunwing.

Memories Cayo Largo: Resort not as stated

People and staff more than pleasant, helpful and friendly. would defiantly return because of them and the most beautiful beach, Resort was rated as four star...should be two star, very poor selection of food, no brewed coffee, no real juice, rooms run down, one day no water at all, beach equipment not even on resort site as shown on website pictures.

Starfish Cayo Largo: Amazing Beach

This is my third time to the Pelicano I will not return unless some changes are made.It would be so simple for them to fix it up .Examples ; put some fresh paint on the room blocks with room numbers on them , take the palayas/ man made umbrellas that are laying on the left side as you walk to the beach and burn them they are all broken and laying there .It would be so simple while the staff that are supposed to entertain for them to weave or build some umbrellas to sit under that would certainl [... read more]y freshen things up.Get rid of the blue umbrellas they have it spoils the beauty and look of this amazing beach. Could they please bring the real tomatoes and the real tomato sauce back they had at pasta bar.Pizza is awesome . No juice only lemon aid there use to be fresh real juice it was amazing.Tourists should not be allowed to smoke on the beach there should be a smoking section so many french people women smoke it's horrible to come to a beach and smell smoke.No bananas and the butter was bad maybe it sat out too long but it was horrible. Only one dam toaster BUY ANOTHER toaster! They use to have pickles and more variety it's went down hill.Sad ! The coffer is horrible I even brought in stand and asked for hot water it was actually salty tasting they are definitely using there water a boiling it o coukdnt even have a coffee ask for a hot water and taste it. Luke warm water in the shower hardly warm enough to shower so fir what I paid which was high not fair !!!

The hotel was clean and the staff (for example the guys who were doing the pizza, the pancakes and the pasta) was nice and polite. The beach was lovely and calm.The food was good, but I miss fruits a little.

Memories Cayo Largo: A great resort with great peopley

This is our second time at his resort .We had a great holiday and we are definitely going back. We love it there, the people who work at the resort are so friendly and want to make sure you are happy. The beach was beautiful, the food was great!!!

Starfish Cayo Largo: Respect the waves

This was our first trip to Cayo Largo and we would be happy to return again next year. The hotel is dated (25 yrs old) , but the grounds and the rooms are kept clean. We found all of the staff to be pleasant and helpful. The gentleman at reception and the two waiters in the main part of the dining hall were exceptional. The rooms are average size, with enough storage space for your belongings in case you stay for two weeks. Our bathroom had no tub, but was the shower was updated. We found that w [... read more]ater pressure was good during the day, but weak very early evening. The lobby washrooms were always clean and (usually had t.p.) Fresh beach towels were not always available (not the hotels fault, they are at the mercy of delivery times). We did not eat at the a la carte restaurants , but we can say that lunch at the pool bar/barbeque was always excellent. The buffet at breakfast and dinner always had a wide selection .. for example, our last dinner there had pizza to order, fish on the grill, roast pork, chicken and pasta station. The entertainment at night was okay . The beach is beautiful!!!!! You can walk for miles, but people need to respect how strong the waves/undertow can be. The main pool was kept clean, but I never saw the childrens' pool being cleaned. Two issues which I wish the hotel would look at: 1. the lobby bar has long line ups ..... perhaps open up the bar which is beside the pizza ovens and 2. guests who play the "towel game" .. leaving your towel on the beach chairs overnight and then not showing up until noon hour is just plain rude and inconsiderate of others. This resort/beach is fabulous for relaxing and taking a mental break.

Grand Memories Cayo Largo: A mixed bag...

The Good: The staff, our room ... renovated oceanview bungalow...new comfy bed, decent furniture and tv. The ocean is spectacular!!! One of the pools wasn’t up and running until part way through the week. Keep the food covered or keep the flies off it. Very disgusting. Got sick mid - week as did others at the resort. Not acceptable!

Memories Cayo Largo: HAD A WONDERFUL TIME...GOING BACK FOR SURE!!!

Cayo Largo is a beautiful and we love going there. We have been to other islands in the Caribbean, an for the price you can't beat it. the beaches are beautiful, its so peaceful and relaxing. Sol Cayo Largo Resort, we feel is the best resort out of the 8 or 9 on the island. It has the best grounds, the biggest pool with swim up bar and the largest and very clean rooms. They treated us like gold and are so kind. They work so hard for the little they make and it upsets me when i see other travelers at the resort getting ignorant with them.

Hotel Pelicano has a spectacular beach that is a joy to see at any time of day. While the resort is showing its age, it is very clean and well kept. The best part of this resort however, is the staff. Every person we dealt with made the effort to be sure we were having a good time. The Pelicano staff could give customer service lessons to lots of service people in North America. The food was pretty much as one would expect at a 3 1/2 star resort. Definitely a good place to kick back and enjoy the beach and sea.

Starfish Cayo Largo: Hotel Pelicano Cayo Largo

Pelicano Cayo Largo is in much need off upgrade and refurbishment. The Hotel is dated and so are the linens , towels and decor. We were a group of thirteen on a weeks vacation Feb 27 to March 3. The Resort ran out of beer four times in the week which was pathetic. The liguer at the Resort is really nothing to mention couldn’t find a premium brand anywhere . Unfortunately tipping was how you would get ser [... read more]ved and I’m not in agreement with this I don’t drink a lot and would prefer to be served in order of how you appear at the bar not because you have a peso hanging in yur hand . The Resort closed the pool bar three consecutive nights early during our stay to accommodate return customers this was rude because we were also paying customers and had to leave the pool bar that we all frequented on these nights so they could wine and dine their return customers. The towel situation is ugly as we didn’t have a beach towel for three days and when we did get them we had a change once after that they never had any clean ones blamed it on the laundry service . The Hola Sun representive was only at Resort for one hour a day between four and five pm this made it difficult to have any issues resolved . We were five couples and only one couple got a king bed the rest of us had two single beds pushed together very uncomfortable I might add . The linen was thin and stained . We occupied the area of 42 and 52 I stayed on the ground floor of 4204 and there was a stench that never left much worse at night . I believe it was the sewage drains that were close by our room it was awful I couldn’t stand the smell daily . A number of us had issues with our room keys wasting our time going back and forth to the front desk to have our keys re programmed . I wouldn’t return back to this Resort . Not sure about the bugs at this time but all of us were covered in bites that would welt up and caused a lot of itching and discomfort . The sand fleas were bad also leaving their ugly purple red marks on our feet . The usual low water pressure and cold water coming out of the archaic plumbing that housed the showers. Only one beach shower worked the others didn’t the same at pool only one worked. The Resort should deside if they want to remain open with better quality Resort or close it down and let tourists like us getter a better bang for our buck .

Gorgeous beach! Meals were often better than expected! Hotel is dated but clean and functions well. Staff (about half) were unfriendly. Unhelpful. Served Spanish and Italian speaking people ahead of English people. Not even discreet about it. In your face.

Starfish Cayo Largo: fair resort

The beach was wonderful. Pool was good. Food ,ground & dining was fair to good. Pool bar was closed for 3 nights for private party. (only 1 bar was open for whole resort &ran out beer many times). Payed for ocean view was told fridge would be stocked daily.(only got 3 cans of pop for whole week). No beach towels 4 days. Had problems with door & safe locks.

Memories Cayo Largo: Amazing beach and staff!

I went to Sol with a few of my friends for a week getaway and it did not disappoint! Amazing staff, night shows, and beach! Would recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing beach vacation with good food. Defiantly would consider going back next year!

We were pleasantly surprised by the high quality and variety of the food at this resort as we had been led to believe that food served in Cuba was limited and bland. Not so here. The staff at Hotel Pelicano are great - cheerful and helpful. It would be helpful if the reception personnel were a bit more fluent in English but they do their best. The long, clean beach was inviting, however Mother Nature and the Caribbean Sea are making a combined effort at reducing the beach - while we were there a full section was washed away! The pools (including the smaller children's pool) were cleaned daily. The only thing I didn't like was the loud music right at poolside.

The room in which we stayed had black mold around the air vent and ceiling edge. The water closets beside the rooms were filled with mosquitoes which came in the room through the vent in the bathroom. Otherwise we were very pleased with the food, grounds, staff and beach. We will return but not on the bottom floor.

When we arrived I was a little taken back with how this resort needed some maintenance, but after only a couple of days I came to appreciate the beauty of the island and it’s people. I would go back time and time again. Cosmetics meant nothing to me after experiencing the food the people and all the Beauty this island has to offer. Best trip ever!!

Villa Natura: Can I keep it a secret?

I love this place! Even though the beach was nonexistent this trip, it's still a lovely spot. The pool is always well maintained, the food is good, the drinks are varied and plentiful. The staff are second to none.

Grand Memories Cayo Largo: Another great visit to Cayo Largo

This was our fifth visit to Cayo Largo, our previous stays were at the Villa Marinera which is partnered with the Playa Blanca but the Marinera was closed this year so we stayed at the Villa Bellarena which is also part of the Playa Blanca. This section was formerly reserved for Italian guests but was opened up to other tourists this year. The cabins are great, we got one with an ocean front view and loved it. The weather didn't co-operate for beach going, there was a strong wind for the enti [... read more]re week we stayed there and that greatly reduced the amount of beach available because of the waves coming in - but at least the sun was shining the whole time and the temperatures were great. We didn't go to any of the other beaches, we were content to spend our time at the beach just down from the main bungalows on the resort. Most of the guests at the hotel took the shuttles to the other beaches so it was very quiet and that suited us just fine. Rudolpho at the beach has become a great friend and he was always there to get out a couple of chairs at our favourite spot. The beach is clothing optional so you need to be prepared for that but the nudists are respectful and its a great opportunity to experience that pleasure if you feel so inclined. Some of the meals we had were excellent, some were borderline but there was always something to eat. The Bellarena specializes in pasta meals, some of the a la carte meals at the other restaurants were great but the buffet was hit and miss. The evening shows were entertaining but sometimes they were a bit over produced. The productions aren't geared towards clients dancing much so that's disappointing. The solar hot water system on our cabin had a leak so it never got hot and the last two days there was no hot water but the cold water isn't that cold so we never missed a shower but were shorter than we might have liked. Sometimes water at the main buildings didn't seem to be working so the toilets didn't always flush. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. It was great to be treated like family when we bumped into staff who we'd met over the years. There were a number of visitors who started out being disappointed at the beginning of their visit, but over the week they were there just about all succumbed to the charm of the place. Once you begin to appreciate what the place really has to offer its easy to overlook the negative stuff. A few things that should be changed... the Bellarena cabins don't have dressers, no place to put belongings other than a few clothes hung in a closet so you have to leave most of your belongings in your suitcase. The entertainer at the Bellarena wasn't very good and that's being kind. Most of the guests would gladly have paid to stop his singing and plug in an i-pod from the visitors into the sound system. Information you are given often isn't accurate - wrong times, wrong location, canceled events, that kind of thing. It would be nice if they upgraded some of the entertainment/activity options. The pool table was non-functional, ping pong facility wasn't in great shape, the exercise room could do with some freshening up. Its Cuba, it would be nice if they offered more opportunities to dance. Transportation options didn't seem to be as flexible as in the past, it seems the number of taxis on the island has been reduced. Apparently there is only one rental car available for the entire island though there seems to be enough scooters to go around and there are 4 wheel ATVs available. If something goes wrong in your room, its unlikely it will get fixed while you're there but in most cases they will change your room to one that works. We were told our hot water would be fixed three times but it didn't happen over the last two days we were there. We extended out book out time to 5 pm for $45 pesos but the key didn't work when we tried to get our luggage out and have a last shower, which still didn't have hot water. All of the main pools had water in them while we were there but some of the hot tubs scattered around the resort were non-functional. There was a hot tub near our cabin, but it wasn't working. We certainly enjoyed our stay and plan to go back again next year. We've been to a lot of resorts in Cuba but this is the one we keep coming back to.
