Hotel Rancho Luna: Beautiful Resort But Not Happy

We had been to this resort 8 years ago and decided to go again. We upgraded to an ocean view room. We arrived into our room at around 11:00 pm. It was dark and we couldn't see anything outside our sliding door. When we woke up in the morning we opened our curtains to look at our beautiful ocean view but all we saw were tiles and sky. Our ocean view was blocked by 6 feet of tiles piled up outside our room. We were told the tiles have been sitting there for around 8 months.When we booked ou [... read more]r room they knew that these tiles were blocking the ocean view. Anyone that books and pays a lot of extra money for this ocean view room will get an obstructed view. That same day we went to the front desk and told them we would like to change rooms and explained why. They told us there were no more rooms, they were full for the week. Later in the week when our rep Louise asked the front desk about changing our room, they told her that they didn't say we couldn't change as the rooms were full. They then proceeded to tell Louise that we didn't pay for an ocean view room and we certainly did. We have our receipts to prove it. We never did get our unobstructed ocean view. We met people who booked a garden view and got upgraded to an ocean view room for free. Not happy at all with the rudeness and sloppiness of the people at the front desk. Not happy that we splurged and paid money for an ocean view room that was obstructed. There were 3 bars. The main bar, the pool bar and the beach bar. The pool bar and beach bar were great. They had the booze we wanted and the bartenders were amazing and were very friendly. The main bar was terrible. No gin, no dark rum and most of the alcohol tasted watered down. Every time we asked for rum or gin they say they ran out, but they never had it. Also, the bartenders were rude and many times ignored women and served the men. Also, they did not even attempt to serve people in the order in which they showed up at the bar. Therefore, you sometimes waited at least 15 minutes before you even got served. Why didn't we go to the pool bar or beach bar then? Well, the pool bar and the beach bar closed at 5:00 so the only bar open was the main bar. The alcohol at the main bar was so bad, that I had to resort to buying dark rum and vodka coolers from the on site store for the whole week. There goes my all inclusive I paid for! All in all I had a good time with friends in the sun but I am really disappointed in these things at the resort. On a good note, our maid in room 236 was fantastic. Our room was always spotless, lots of towels and she made a towel animal every night. Great job. Very happy with her. Also the servers in the dining room were very polite and kind. They were also very attentive getting us drinks.

Clean rooms friendly staff every meal was a surprise but you could always find something to your liking Good value for the money Cuban air was a good flight and we actually got a snack The beach was small but clean Free bus rides into town was a great feature

Memories Trinidad Del Mar: Great breach however the rooms need work & water problems.

No running hot water most of the time. The location is beautiful with a long beach for swimming and walking. House keeping was excellent and the rooms where clean. However there hotel staff were cold at best.

Club Amigo Ancon: club amigo

Amazing beach with snorkelling close by. close to the super interesting city of Trinidad, museums and beautiful buildings. If you like a very international hotel with a quick turnover, this place is for you.

Playa Giron: Bittersweet

The grounds were rustic as stated. Seeped in history, this resort has a certain "Je ne said quoi" about it. Dogs roamed freely and added to a certain charm. Decor and bedding reminded me of the sixties when fabric and colours were of a certain ilk, a polyester blend was used for the covers. However the staff who cleaned the room replaced our towels and bedding daily. We were staying in the middle of a row of box-like rooms, that had air-conditioning which worked well when the hydro was on. O [... read more]ut of the seven day stay, hydro went out almost a whole 24 hours period, then intermittently for two more days. Water was turned off and we were never told how long it might take over a three day period several times. There were many missing amenities that we take for granted back home such as toilet seats and plumbing fixtures like toilet trip levers. Another luxury we have is sinks and toilets that do not leak . Because of the power outage, I suspect the food may have been compromised. However, luckily, I never felt ill. We did buy two large bottles of water and used those sparingly to drink and sometimes wash our hands when needed. A beautiful beach and warm weather helped to curtail the staff that seemed to be overworked. Some even were not just inattentive but rude. I was left waiting while conversations were held that clearly indicated by body language that the conversation was about the tourists. There were many loud cuban guests who seemed to monopolize that bar staff with demands for multiple drinks for their tables. Their offspring were running around like free range chickens let out in the yard for the first time. Although there was a stage, there was little in the way of entertainment of bygone years. One night a band graced the stage, another night tourists were asked to vote on other tourists dancing, clearly this was an impromptu act of someone's idea for entertainment. The cubans were clearly amused and laughed at the tourists who did their best. I was here 26 years ago and had found it rustic and charming. There were many staff who did their best to be polite and hardworking, but overall, there seemed to be an undercurrent for some of hostility. The washroom in the main lobby was the worst. Because of the several water shortages, it quickly turned filthy as few attempts were made to clean and keep it stocked with toilet paper. Cleanings scheduled to accommodate the guests that frequented the lobby bar and used those facilities was sorely lacking. Worst of all, the representative who represented Hola Sun, did not meet us on our scheduled time two days in a row. She was casually introduced to us a day before our departure. There was clearly a lack of communication here to inform us of any ammenities that we were entitled to. We found out some by talking to other helpful tourists.

Club Amigo Costa Sur: Basic, clean and authentic

Location is wonderful; bungalows very comfortable and clean but basic. Food okay - definitely not gourmet but overall good value. Beach bartender(Lázaro) was a delight! Amazingly the pile of broken beach chairs in front if our bungalow stayed there all week. ☹️ Overall experience positive.

Hotel Rancho Luna: Great experience!

It was our first time in Cienfuegos and Rancho Luna. We liked our small and clean room. A/C worked well, water pressure was great. The ground was very well kept, beautiful trees, big pool. We managed to find plenty of food for vegetarian eaters. Papaya every day was delicious. The beach is good for snorkeling, bring fins with you since seaweed grows close to the shore. There were some spots to bath without any seaweed. The water was calm so we swam far away. Service was great! We laughed non-stop and left home making many lifelong friends. We also went to El Nicho waterfalls. Highly recommend this tour. We will definitely come back to Rancho Luna.

Hotel Rancho Luna: Good value

I spent two weeks at Hotel Rancho Luna, from February 26 > March 12, 2017, at a cost of approximately $1226. That was certainly good value for the money. Since it's in a small bay, the ocean was generally calm = good for snorkelling and swimming. Much of the ocean bottom was grassy, however, which bothered some people. The beach was kept clean, with ample chairs, although it's not the lovely white sand you might find elsewhere in Cuba. The room was somewhat small, but more than adequate. T [... read more]here was plenty of hot water and good water pressure. The AC unit worked well, and there were ample stations available on TV. Horseback riding was free, if you remained on the property. Catamaran rides were also free, and there were paddle-boats and kayaks available. The pool was large and clean. There is a 24 hour lobby bar, and decent pizza at the pool bar [until 1:00 AM]. The beach restaurant bar served a pretty good fish lunch: avoid the hamburgers, however. Generally, food in the buffet was pretty good. The grilled fish, chicken, pork or liver was quite tasty, and the battered fish was excellent. Potatoes were available in abundance, and the baked squash and pumpkin were good. Turkey or baked chicken was served 3 or 4 times. Breakfast was always excellent, with a good variety of fruit, tasty strawberry or plain yogurt, white cheese, and fresh eggs. The breads [albeit white only] were fairly good. There were some excellent servers [Cassandra, Roberto, Mario, Marty, George] in the buffet. Take Canadian, not U.S. money: it can be exchanged at the lobby desk [14 C.U.C.'s from $20]. There is a free shuttle bus into Cienfuegos every day. The city is worth seeing. Cubana Air was fine. From Toronto, you can take two suitcases of 23 kg each. On the flight there, they sold cans of Cristal beer for $3.00 Canadian. The airport has a small, but adequate Duty Free Shop. Cuban honey was inexpensive, and the usual liquors were available, as were cigars. You could buy a cold Cristal at the snack bar for 2 C.U.C.'s. I'm happy to recommend this resort. Hotel Rancho Luna: Amazing resort

During my recent stay at Rancho Luna hotel I found the grounds and public areas very clean and neat as usual .My room was well looked after and maintained daily, also dining rooms and food, lots of variety,The front desk/reception were always pleasant and helpful.

Hotel Rancho Luna: Improving resort and hard working staffs!

We are a couple in our 20's and it was our first trip to Cuba. It is a great resort, staffs work 12 hours a day and we can really see that they are trying to improve to accommodate all the age travellers. At first, we were having doubts about this place because of several agent telling us how it might be boring or not a recommended place for our age group. We were able to meet some new friends and we all went to do excursions together. We enjoyed just tanning by the public beach and do daily activities together. This is not a resort to party. As for the rating of the food, it does get quite boring because there are not that many varieties and no spices ( unless you get lucky and spot the spicy salsa sauce). I would recommend people to bring snacks such as chips, cookies and sauces. Booking with Candice from trip central was amazing. She would reply to my emails within 1 hour and answer me with all the details needed. In addition, she has also given me a call back to follow up with me before my trip. I believe that Rancho Luna is worth going if you are a student or on a budget and don't mind to go to a less night party resort. The location of this resort to downtown is about 15 minutes by taxi, if you are able to speak a little bit Spanish, you should negotiate to obtain the taxi for 8 CUC. The resort is also near the dolphin show centre, at first, they told us it would take 10 mins to walk, but we ended up walking for 1 hour. We were able to enjoy the cuban houses view and the weather. Rancho Luna will keep improving.

Club Amigo Ancon: Very spacey and open area hotel!

I love how nature is integrated into tropical hotels. Hotel Ancon did not disappoint! We had a bright spacious room with a huge floor to ceiling window looking over the peninsula towards Trinidad which was very nice also at night. The moment we stepped out the door we faced the beach and the sea! The weather was fabulous and we needed no air condition! And what can one say about all the drinks and cappuccinos we consumed, fabulous.The entertainment was also amazing and I have to give the performing dancing and singing ensemble a big hand for their talents and kindness, Bravo! In Cuba you always fare better if you hand out tips so have some money with you all the time! A peso(1$) will do for most favors. We rented a motor bike for 5 days (approx. $ 90-100) and it was well worth it. We got to know the people and surroundings much better than just staying at the hotel. Trinidad was grand with all it's colonial buildings and loads of bars, cafes and shops (due to new laws allowing free enterprise)! My husband brought 20 pairs of running shoes bought at value village and believe me there is nothing Cubans like better than shoes!! One last thing: It is Cuba so things won't be perfect, the furniture in the rooms could be old and few other things will be questionable but that is the charm of Cuba. It is ridiculously safe and the people are so lovable. We will definitely be back! Oh and don't mind the pool, they say it should be fixed by next year, didn't need it anyway!

Memories Trinidad Del Mar: Worst experience in Cuba

Wow...where do I start? From the time we arrived and had to wait for 5 hours for our room to be ready. When we got into the room we were greeted with no running water and a broken toilet. The management was very friendly and understanding but didn't fix the toilet for the entire stay of 7 days! We found alternative ways to manage..... The drinks were good! The beach and the weather was nice. The staff was friendly. The flight back was also slightly delayed. Overall, I am not going back even if you pay me!

Hotel Rancho Luna: Better - than what you pay!!!

The price was right... at $608 (including taxes) per person for this three star small resort - how can you go wrong? You get what you pay for, but with the Rancho Luna, you get a great staff and a clean resort. My wife and I have been to this hotel 3 times, and each time it seem a bit better, even the food. My ratings are for a three star hotel - as I didn't book a 5 star vacation... (We've travelled over 30 times to Cuba, and stayed in casa particulars, 2 star up to 5 star resorts).

Hotel Rancho Luna: Great economy resort.

The rooms are clean, the hotel is near the beach with a beach bar offering the basics for drinks and made to order hamberger with fries or fried fish. You can get coffee, pizzas and basic drinks at the pool bar. The lobby bar has slightly better offerings. Wife and i enjoyed espressos and cognac after a meal. The buffet isnt something that will ovrly impress, however for a 3 star you dont do too badly. The resort is 18 km from the city. Cienfuegos is rich in culture and history with impres [... read more]sive french colonial architecture. There are night clubs, pub like patios and live music venues to drink, dine, dance. A taxi will run you 10 CUCs each way. Some of the staff here are not overly hospitable, but there is more than enough to make up for that with polite, attentive staff. This is not 5 star, if you want that, go to Veradero. If you want more of an authentic Cuban experience, consider this.

Hotel Rancho Luna: Great Experience

Visiting Rancho Luna was a great trip! I went with a group of 14 and everyone enjoyed all aspects. The tour guides, receptionists, maids, bartenders, grounds keepers all work very hard, very polite and were accommodating. The tours were fun and the guides were informative on every question we had. The pool side was always clean, ready for relaxing. Cuban music from the main area was heard perfect beside the pool. The food is different, but there was always something to satisfy. Don't forget to visit the beach and take a complimentary tour on the catamaran, peddle boat or kayaks.

Hotel Rancho Luna: Santa Clara Airport

I will never book my trip from Santa Clara airport. Chaos and lots of rude people pushing me to the back of the line. Too crowded and took a long time. Trouble with customs and then they said the document I had was correct but first told me to get to the back of the line. People not good and complained to officers and Santa Clara airport staff. Hate this airport and too long to drive to Santa Clara airport.
