Bahia Principe Explore La Romana: It was better before Covid

The food was of a much better quality, as well as the booze they used to serve pre covid. It was my second time at this resort and I was shocked by the difference in quality before and after the rona.

The Hotel was very clean the rooms really pretty. The staff was working very very all the time. The beautiful gardens were exceptional. The buffet food was was spectacular and the room luxurious. The marble floors at the one pool area I thought were slippery and worried about the elderly. The bar ok but water not easily available.

Last week of Nov. 2022. Arrived at the resort late afternoon and were informed our rooms (3) were not ready. They provided temporary rooms until the next day. The staff were very professional and courteous and tried to please us as best they can, but it was not a good start to our vacation. Otherwise, the resort seems to draw an older demographic which keeps things toned down which is what we like. The food was very good. No seaweed on the beach. Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Pretty amazing resort

This resort was amazing! The service was beyond amazing. Only thing that we didn't like as much was how the beach was set up, there was not enough areas with full sunlight and depending on where you picked a spot it was still far from the beach. But overall I would stay at the resort again.

The grounds are beautiful, the best feature of the resort. The beach is terrible, brown water, difficult to enter, jellyfish bites daily, and view from beach is a oil refinery, which at times smells! Dinner reservations are frustrating as only 5 restaurants available. although Bahia website said 6 restaurants but when you get there La Gourmet is not available to Bouganville guests. Rooms are outdated and need renovation, the bed is rock hard ! Pool towels were worn out and looked like they were very old and had to use towel cards or be charged $10 per towel at end of stay, not 5 star! Buffet for breakfast was good, lunch buffet at beach was low quality food, main buffet would not let you in at lunch if in a bathing suit regardless of the cover up being worn. Only option then was pool buffet Bar drinks were limited for example no flavoured vodka or gin, drinks were not made the same twice and many times the server did not understand what was being ordered. Glasses at pool bar not being washed just dipped in dirty water and then reused, so glad we had our own drinking mugs! Service overall very unprofessional, unpredictable and not comparable to the Bahia’s in Mexico and Punta Cana. Lobby shows in evening were terrible, it was the staff dancing to the Bahia theme song over and over or silly games, no professional show in the 11 nights we were there. I feel bad for the staff having to do it over and over ! Stayed for 11 nights and was ready to come after at night number five! Very disappointed

Dreams La Romana: Beautiful, quiet family resort

The resort is very picturesque with lovely landscaping and a long shoreline. The ocean is calm and is great for swimming and snorkelling. Rooms are small - they only allow cots in suites. Service is very attentive and food options are plentiful. There are even resident flamingos. We enjoyed it greatly and hope to be back one day.

Bahia Principe Explore La Romana: Good value resort

Very nice resort - good value for the money. Ocean was a little disappointing due to water clarity and debris but this is not something the resort can change. Staff were hard working and pleasant and the activities team were welcoming and fun. Food was good with lots of choices. Very clean - lots of hand sanitizer around if needed - did not really think about COVID all week!! Had a nice family vacation.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: excellent resort

This was a great resort; rooms were very large and clean with balcony. The food was excellent, Restaurants were very good, in addition to the buffet. This resort is totally paperless. A covid accommodation to avoid unnecessary touching even the restaurants have a QR code to scan for the menu. An app is required to book things, but there is also access on a standalone device in the lobby to use. There were lots of room at all Restaurants and we were able to try all 5 and some even twice. It [... read more] was a bit far from the airport, but once there you had no need to go anywhere else. The beach was a bit damaged from the recent weather , but every day they were out there working to clean it up. Life guards used the Flag system to indicate safety of water, Dark purple means jelly fish or other dangerous wild life , and was used effectively to communicate the conditions.

All our needs were met and the staff were amazing. We had an incredible time. The a la carte restaurants were fantasic. We also did the dinner on the beach for our anniversary and it was just incredible.

Dreams Dominicus La Romana: Dream Dominicus - La Romana DR

The Dreams Dominicus is a very nice and well maintained property. Our room was really nice. We had room 64-103, which included our own pool. The beach was pretty good but certianly had some rocks under the water and you tend to find them the hard way...by walking into them. I really think Dreams should tell people about them. Otherwise the beach was great but a small beach front.. The food and restaurant were very good. Service was also very good. The main issue we did not like at all was the upselling they do... 1. They really tried hard to get us to sit in on a 90 minute chat about timeshares. We actually had to get angry with a girl and her supervisor as they were pushing really hard. Finally I had a enough and told them to leave us alone 2. At some of the restaurants your given a "wine list" to purchase wine and they don't really explain there is also house wine available... 3. They constant ask you if you want a massage or romantic dinner. I think they need to stop doing this. So overall, we had a nice vacation.

This is a typical Bahia Principe Hotel. Large cozy green area, chic lobby, qualified service, good entertainment and quality food. We liked sandy beach. Ocean water was not clear because the river flows near the hotel, but we went swimming in another place not so far. The main bonus is that we didn't have seaweed as often happens in Punta Cana.

Dreams Dominicus La Romana is a beautiful , immaculate & spacious resort approximately 1 hour drive away from the hotel. The grounds and gardens are well manicured and preserved. The best part of the Dominican Republic to me has always and will always be the Dominican people. Their warmth, kindness and engaging nature is infectious. The hotel room was spacious, clean and well lad out. Our housekeeper, Ramona was fantastic and provided service with a smile. The mini fridge was always topped up, we had fresh towels daily and hot water was never an issue. We did not take in a lot of evening shows but the Circus show was spectacular and reminiscent of Cirque de Soleil. Food was okay both at the buffet and A La Cartes. The staff work as a team to ensure your needs are met in the dining room and tips while appreciated are not expected. We tipped accordingly. Yesenia was a stand out in the World Cafe for us. No reservations necessary, they are all first come, first served. The Japanese restaurant appeared to be particularly popular, given the long lines but we did not attend. We did go to the Seafood Grill & the Italian restaurant which were both okay. Dreams offers room service with a menu to choose from. It usually takes around 45 minutes from the time of order to the time of delivery. It should be noted that menus are different to ones previously posted online from travellers and that you will need to take your phone with you to access menus via QR codes at both the restaurants & a channel on your t.v. You can also have lunch on the pier as long as there are no events going on. Drinks / Bar - readily available and served with a smile with the exception of one miserable male bartender at the beach bar & grill who didn't seem too eager to fill our Bubba mugs, even though it would mean fewer visits from us and no one would have to make sure we cleaned up after ourselves. The Spa was gorgeous and clean. We had massages which we enjoyed and then were given 1 hour in the hydrotherapy section where you could find a Jacuzzi, pool and cold pool on the roof so you still had access to the sunshine and fresh air. The beach was not to our standard and a little disappointing, in that, it was unkempt and a lot of erosion had taken place. There was a lot of seaweed and rock at the base in front of the hotel, as you entered the ocean. A problem that could easily be resolved by having a crew attend to this every morning. It definitely does not look like it does in the picture. However, once you waded into the water it was warm and reasonably clear. We found it more enjoyable to walk a short distance towards Catalonia hotel and enter the ocean there as it would appear as though they cleared their section of the beach. It was also notable that there was a divide between "preferred guests" (paid upgrade) area & the commoner section. They had a security guard monitoring the area. Loungers in both sections were much closer than we would have liked if the hotel was fully booked. We observed that towels were laid out on all loungers in the "preferred guest" section to give the illusion that it was busier than it was, and collected at the end of the day. Beach towels were handed out according to preferred guests versus commoners. No difference in the access to the beach, only lounge chairs / cabana like structures. Souvenir shops were available on site and market vendors were present on two of the seven nights we were there. There's also a vendor market on the beach if you go left of the pier. Saona Catarman Tour - there were two options for two different prices. one was $80 U.S & the other was $90 US. We opted for the latter taking in Blue Lagoon Beach (which includes lunch), Natural Pool & Saona Island. The crew was entertaining and lots of music en route. Our favourite stop was the Natural Pool, we could have stayed there the entire day and been happy. Deep Lagoon was a nice beach. Saona was a disappointing due to lots of beach shoreline erosion. Air Canada Terminal @ Pearson International - we arrived early given the horror stories we had heard from others about getting through security in the post COVID era. Thankfully, we had checked in online and only had to do luggage drop off. There were Air Canada staff available to assist with the check in kiosks and we moved through this section rather quickly ,ten minutes at the most. The security line was busy but we managed to clear security in around 35 minutes & people were generally cordial. Upon return, we fully expected to be waiting on the tarmac, to our surprise we were in the terminal within five minutes. Customs & luggage pick up 30 minutes total. We made arrangements for curb side pick- up. Airport Punta Cana, Dominican Republic - This international airport knows how to clear passengers coming and going. I was last in the D.R 25 years ago and this experience was no different. It doesn't seem to matter how many people are moving through the terminal, they clear house in 15-20 minutes and send you on your way. (And yes, I mean customs, luggage and in your mode of transportation). Impressive. Upon our return, same thing. We did online check in, dropped off our luggage and cleared security within 15-20 minutes. Dominican Republic Online Form for entry & exit of the country were pretty straight forward once you understood what they were asking of you. It's basically their customs declaration card & a few COVID screening questions. For return, it seemed like they just wanted to make sure the person leaving was the same person who entered. Both forms generated QR codes which you needed at the airport coming & going respectively. ArriveCan - what a waste of time. A lot of rig-a-mo-roll for nothing. It generated a QR code which no one asked for upon return, so unless it's linked to your passport in some way, I couldn't tell you why it was necessary to fill out. You still have to complete the Canadian declaration form via kiosk upon your return in the arrival terminal. Green sticker on your passport and you're good to go. Pink sticker means you have been randomly selected for COVID screening. This was a much needed break for us and we found ourselves able to relax & feel safe at this resort.

Catalonia Royal La Romana: Amazing Resort

We loved this resort. It is located about 45 min.from Punta Cana. This hotel is adults-only, but guests are free to take advantage of its sister, family resort right next door. The hotel is well-appointed and on the smaller side, which is nice. The lobby bar has a good selection of alcohol but also makes delicious lattes. Above the lobby is where the breakfast buffet is located, which has a great variety of food—fruit, breads, cheeses, meats, cereals, typical breakfast fare as well as some [... read more] Dominican options, and made-to-order omelettes. There are 5 specialty restaurants and all are a must-try. We found the food delicious!! I tried two chefs specials with beef—so tender; octopus—OMG, my favourite; red snapper; and desserts—passion fruit creamy mousse, a chocolate ganache, to die for. The sister resort has a wood-fired oven and makes delicious pizza. I have nothing but good things to say about the food. And we never had a problem making reservations and menus were available thru a QR code on your phone. There is a pool bar in a small pool, and a beach bar, that serves sushi. Pina coladas and mojitos are ymmy. There is a second swimming pool, and a theatre with shows every night at 9:30. There is also nightly entertainment in the outside courtyard…a singer, a musician, a singing group, or dancers. The beach is about a 7 or 8 minute walk, but they also have a golf-cart shuttle. Beautiful fine sand and shallow waters. The only issue was being able to get a covered beach chaise…you had to get down to the beach fairly early to nab one, because that sun is hot. We had a two-level suite with our own small pool, adjoining three others. The main level had a living room with pull out couch, tv, bathroom, and fridge stocked with water, pop and beer that was free. Coffee maker and umbrella as well. And as a gift, there were three 26 oz. bottles of alcohol. Access to the balcony and pool. Upstairs was a king bed, tv, two safes, closets, and bathroom. We never left the resort but there were many tours available. Entertainment staff conducted dance lessons, aqua size, etc. There is a washroom near the lobby with shower facilities.

We enjoyed our 1 week stay at Dreams Dominicus. Our arrival very disappointing and discouraging. We had booked a king swim up suite and it was communicated that we were celebrating our 30th anniversary while here. My husband communicated with the resort and told everything was looked after. Upon arrival, security at the gate congratulated us. Unfortunately, guest services, in the Preferred check in Section seemed oblivious and uncaring towards this. We went to eat and came back to find the Checkin space filled with some new upset individuals as well as others returning like us. We were finally placed in a room that clearly was not really intended to be ours. It wasn’t decorated to acknowledge our special occasion and we found a welcome letter to some unknown to us individual. We shared thus and still staff had no regard. Not at all a nice way to start a vacation. After this though, the rest of our experience was positive. Building 50 was a great location for us, close to lobby and fresh coffee and tea every morning. Joanna took good care of us each and every morning. If she was not serving, she ensured the coffee was made right. May not be ideal for all but we liked it for it’s privacy and quietness. A la carte service was hit and miss depending on the restaurant. Family section was never busy and service was always exceptional. Great friendly service always. Seaside restaurant was our favorite with the soups, nachos and the meat plater. The coffee bar was always a nice evening stop. Good snacks and coffee. She had my chi latte figured out after a couple attempts. She was always friendly and willing to help and learn. Beach restaurant was okay but the services was poor. Denis on the grill and Genesis at the bar took good care of us in the preferred section to the left. Always lots of chairs and shade to be found. Only went in the main pool once. Enjoyed the paint night and the sailing lesson from Izero. Danny our butler did a great job organizing our anniversary extras that he had for us in the room. The spa was a nice treat at the end of our vacation. We did spend a lot of evening in our swim up pool. The walk to town was easy and many shops to be found along the way. It is much quicker to go by beach. Safety was never a concern. Dominicus shopping plaza is just getting started. Cheap booze and coffee to take home. We did have a cheese and meet player one evening in the room. Not sure who had set the up but a thanks goes out to you. We could easily have done two weeks. The buffet was always good, a lot of repeats but you never go hungry.

Catalonia Royal La Romana: Awesome resort😃

The grounds of this hotel are beautiful. Every area is carefully maintained and has creative features. The ground keepers are constantly working quietly to enhance the property. The public spaces are well maintained and convenient. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable and held every convenience we required as seniors. Our housekeeper Evelyn worked diligently to maintain our room through immaculate preparation of the space. Wait staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. We loved the photo op features which we took advantage of. The garden near the beach was breathtaking. The shuttles to the beach were very much appreciated. Having a swim up pool was a delight. Having a few pools and a clean beach to choose from was great. Loved the hot tubs too.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Nice holiday

Resort is very well-kept. The beds are very hard but they do have pillow toppers if you ask the butler for them. À la cart dinners are very good mind you the Buffet needs some work. You seem to be eating the same food over and over. It is a very long drive from the airport I would not do it again. It is nice to have an activity pool and a quiet pool. The beach is a big disappointment that is full of jellyfish as well.

Whala Bayahibe: Total relaxation!!

Beautiful views.Huge spacious rooms.Air worked great,very clean,king bed, comfy but pillows a bit lumpy.All staff very friendly even if they didn't speak English.Pool clean. Hard working staff.Buffet a bit small and lacking variety but still didn't starve.Had a few problems with drinks because of lack of language understanding. Daily entertainment was almost nil.Only a couple of evening shows .The rest was a dj playing music.I give entertainment a 2 out of 10. No Sunwing rep available at hotel.

very clean, great food with lots of options at the buffet, A la carte's were our favourite meals with lots of variety on the menu, always free beach chairs, friendly/welcoming staff. We were thrilled with our stay!

Sunscape Dominicus La Romana: Great atmosphere

I have not been to many all inclusives, but I am definitely walking away having an awesome experience. The food was 2nd to none. The selection was fantastic and changed every meal, every day. The entertainment was what I would expect from an all inclusive. A lot of great talent. The pool area was large and overall was a nice pool. You can witness the constant effort to upkeep the grounds. I agree with the beach area, the ocean-it was rocky, but you could easily navigate. Dreams Dominicus La Romana: Beautiful beach

Great resort overall. Beach is superb you cannot go wrong. Room was ok. Food was not bad overall however i wish they had more options. Juan Carlos supervisor at the buffet was excellent, great work!!!
