Ocean Casa Del Mar

The Beach and pool were very nice. The staff was good. The à la carte restaurants were disappointing, and the way they did the reservations, were the worst I have ever seen. I would not go back to the resort.

Great resort

The hotel was nice. The tables in the dining room were not cleaned very often and were dirty. Beach was beautiful. Food was good for Cuba. Rooms were nice. The staff was friendly. The entertainment at the pool was great.

Exceeded our Expectations

We don't expect much when we go to Cuba. We go for the rest, relaxation, and beautiful beaches. The food at the a la carte restaurants, though, was surprisingly good. Thank you to Leo at the buffet, our maid Milexi, Jose at the Hobie Cats, and Dayana at the Blue Moon restaurant who made our stay more personable and memorable.

Amazing Beach, Pool ans staff

Picture perfect beach, extra long and totally private, with cleanest water and sand you will ever get, and 3 rustic bars (east, centre and west) serving BBQ and sandwiches at noon + (east only) freshly made paella every day. No motorized crafts, therefore no water/noise pollution. Lots of lounge chairs and shaded seating, you will not have to fight for a place or wake up early to reserve one. Only (minor) drawback: ugly sand covered lagoon area to cross before reaching the beach, quite a distance to walk if nature calls (no washrooms in the beach area). Hotel is spread on sizeable grounds with big and super clean pools for young and adult, generous seating, non-crowded in-water bars and indoor/outdoor snack bars. Excellent pool/beach towels replaced at will. Rooms: large, fully equipped, very clean, sound proof, with spacious bathrooms (careful: it's either shower or tub), and nice balconies to enjoy. Excellent housekeeping but no Do Not Disturb signs. On 3 floors, but no elevator. Food: one central indoor/outdoor buffet restaurant, huge with good variety, but long lineups at cooking stands. Warm buffet needs to be kept ... warm and replenished, and cold buffet needs more selection, with better salads. Beware: not cosher, not halal. Morning selection is ok, but bread toasters not good enough and whole wheat bread non existent. Crowded omelette and pancake stands. Served coffee below par and always lukewarm, isolated Nescafe machines almost always empty. Staff is eager to please. Upfront tipping helps a lot. Live music every day. Fine dining: Booking system not appropriate (lineup every day starting at 5 pm for dining that day only). Food is very average. Central cafe/bar: outstanding! With high-quality live music every day. Alcoholic drinks are generous and well prepared everywhere. Specialized coffee at Mike's well worth it. Wi-Fi in the central building only, with 1$ cards for Id/password that can last up to 1 hour. Good speed. Cozy and generous seating in the lobby to check your email and share your pictures. Entertainment every night will exceed your expectations, considering the remoteness of the place. Local dance group with some very good dancers. Very nice amphitheatre. Staff: overall VERY nice and obliging (including Pedro at the Tennis Courts). Well, with one exception: front desk staff cranky. If you report an issue, don't expect a quick resolution. Local money exchange office: can be slow with lineups. Excursion offering is average. Nearby shopping mall (Estrellas) not worth the 24 bus wait or 20$ taxi (maybe if there is entertainment at night). Our arrival and departure were on a Thursday. Checking in and out at the airport was very smooth (compared to Varadero) and 1.5 hour commute to hotel punctual and pleasant. Finally: Maidely of Transat: a wonderful person. Inconclusion: much above expectation for the discounted price we paid!

Good Value

A good value for money at this resort. The food was pretty good for Cuba, albeit the buffet was the best of all of them. The beach is great and the pool was nice. We had a little incident with one of our children stepping on a piece of glass in the pool, but the resort cannot control everything. We would have liked to have seen a little more urgency in the response, but everything worked out OK. Ocean Casa Del Mar

Fantastic resort on an amazing beach. Best week in the sun. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and very comfortable. We will definitely go back to this resort. Next time we will stay 2 weeks !!!

Two star hotel

Very disappointed with this resort.As a resort with 5 stars I was expecting much more.It was wors then others I have been with 3 stars. Food is disgusting,same every day .Only thing I did like was a beach.

Good resort

Complex to review 5 stars 1, Beach 2. Service (except front desk) 3. Maid service 4. Cuban entertainment every night - amazing 3 stars 1. Pools 2. Food (good for Cuba) 3. Shows/entertainment team 2 stars 1. Like all of Cuba 1hr cards have to be purchased for wifii :( 2. Front desk staff are awful - I wouldn’t hire them for anything? Weird this is the face of your resort :( 3. Big coackroach in our room on final night. Resort was good for Cuba!

The good,the bad and the ugly

We booked our trip through Tripcentral and flew with Air Transat. We arrived on Thursday, March 8th, 2018. As soon as we stepped into the hotel we were off to a bad start. First thing, we didn't receive a welcome drink as advertised. Next thing is we were given door keys that did not work. So, my wife waited in the room while I got new keys for the door. (It's a long trek as we were in the furthest building from the main building) We go in the room only to discover it is not what we asked for in [... read more]itially. We requested a king size bed on the top floor. We got 2 double beds on the 2nd floor. Also, the bar fridge was empty and turned off. Then we noticed the bathroom lights did not work and its difficult to get cleaned up in the dark. Also, the patio door requires a bodybuilding champion to open as it seemingly was off the track and does not lock. About an hour later, the power went out. So, I walked back to the main building asking for someone to repair these items. They said they would send someone over to do the repairs.( I would have called but the telephone was missing from our room.) Nobody showed up. I was able to locate the electrical panel and noticed a breaker was off. So I switched it back on. The following morning, I noticed a bunch of red circles on my arms and legs. it turns out they were bed bugs. I photographed and documented these bites. If you want to book the a la carte restaurant, you have to get in a long line and long wait times. You can only book a restaurant on the same day you are going. So, that means standing in line for everyday you want to go to a la carte restaurant. We booked 1 restaurant at the Romantico and the only time they had was 8:30 or 9:30. We were lucky and got 8:30. The food in the buffet was basically the same everyday. That's normal for Cuba. There seemed to be a shortage of bacon. I only seen it a couple of times during our one week stay. We tried the grill restaurant near the west pool and it was good. They have chicken nuggets and fries, burgers, and beef sandwiches, etc. The food is good and hot. They have bottles of ketchup but really tastes like barbecue sauce. Every morning, we were going to Mike's cafe in the main lobby for cappuccino. We love the friendly staff. They also have fresh pastries there for those sweet lovers. The fresh fruits in the buffet were scarce. They only had papaya and unripe pineapple. Apparently, the Hurricane Irma wiped out most of the banana and mango trees in the north end of the island of Cayo Santa Maria.

Overall a good stay!

The hotel itself is beautiful, I love the layout and the easy accecibilty to all amenities. Seeing as the hotel is less than 5 years old is it understandable that the gardens were not as lush as I hoped but getting there. If you are planning on staying at this resort make sure to plan you dinners ahead and make reservations at the restaurants as the food in the buffet is not the tastiest. Staff is super freindly though and they were very helpful with anything we needed. I would go back!

A very enjoyable week

My parents (elderly) myself and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The beach is one of the best I have experienced. It was windy some days and it meant we could whip along on the Catamaran and jump in waves; other days were absolutely still and calm so we could play endlessly. They work so hard and so graciously I am not a pool person but my daughter had fun! Relaxed - no cooking, no driving and no cleaning! I loved the Michael Jackson show but the other entertainment was too loud and needed a bit more variety. Everyone was so responsive and kind. I would return for sure! It is really great that there is a division in the louder section and the quiet section. We stayed in the most serene of buildings! Too relaxed to do the excursions! :)

Beautiful Beach!!!

The beach is probably the best we have seen in Cuba, and we have been 8 times now. The grounds are not mature but well maintained. The resort is still quite new and the recent hurricanes certainly didn’t help. Hector at the buffet was an absolute pleasure and gave us wonderful service all week long. The activities at the pool kept our teenage daughters entertained and there were plenty of chairs available. Our rooms were perfect. The beds were reasonably comfortable and the showers were [... read more] stand-up ones made in ceramic, so not water build-up in a plugged tub while taking a shower (we have experienced this several times in Cuba) The only bad thing we have to say is that there was an unpleasant smell from the bug fumigating vehicle that passed everyday. More specifically during supper time...not too appetizing. Overall we have no major complaints, and we would recommend this resort to our friends and family!

Very nice resort

The good: This is a very nice resort one of the nicer ones iv stayed in in Cuba the rooms were very big and modern. The staff was generally very nice. The grounds were kept up very well especially for just being hit with a bad huricane in the fall. The beach is nice and has tons of chairs and shade. Never an issue getting a beach chair. The food on the resort is excellent for cuba lots of options for a la carts and the beach huts cook awsome rice and chicken wings. The entertain was top notch on [... read more] the resort. The bad: we had an upgraded room and it had only a small jet tub, no shower so we had to switch rooms. The maids don't leave enough toilet papper and the fridge doesn't get restocked with enough water or beer some days none at all. The courtesybathroom in the main loby for checkout day is discusting. Not even close to enough chairs by the pool. There is an adult pool and a pool for the kids, all the kids were always at the adult pool splashing everyone and swimming around the swim up bar. And the kids pool which is as big as the adult pool was a ghost town. The ground workers were jack hammering cement most mornings at 730 on the walkways on the resort.

Great Resort

clean. Always had chairs available around the pool and the beach, even if we were during Spring break. The food was ok for Cuban standard. Did not hear anyone we meet to complain about this hotel. We had a great time.

Not Bad Not Great!!!

its a decent resort, ocean is quite a ways away from the resort but its amazing when you get there, food wasnt too bad, drinks were okay, service was just okay, terrible at the swim up bar, was no one at the bar in the pool and my wife waited 30 mins plus for a drink, needs work but decent price, weather was pretty good also, beds are horrible also, sore backs for 5 out of the 7 days

Beautiful Resort

This hotel was beautiful, extremely nice rooms and facility layout. We were fortunate enough to lick out on rooms that were close to all amenities which made it great to access everything and enjoy the full experience the hotel had to offer. The staff was super friendly and helpful. It was very nice to have multilingual staff oh hand to avoid any communicate barriers. I must say the dinners we had at the blue lagoon alacarte were fenominal flavors and preperation was amazing steaks melted in your mouth!! The beach was terrific also lots of room for sun bathers and canopy area for the hubby that can’t be too much in the sun! Drinks were great lots of assortments and tenders were fun and experienced!! We would definitely go back!

Nice resortbeautiful beach

Just returned from Oceans Casa del Mar. We stayed in building 9 which was close to the main lobby and the buffet. We had a jetted tub but if you prefer showers, ask for a room with a shower instead. You can't really shower in this tub. Food was good and the only criticism I would have was the buffet got a bit repetitive. We always left with full bellies. Pool area was nice. Enough lounge chairs while we were there. Lots of lounge chairs at the beach also. All in All, great holiday!

Overall a great resort!!

Beautiful hotel and amazingly nice service at the bars and buffet! Staff were friendly and made you feel welcome. Beach is nice, though not as long of a stretch for walking as I would like. Rooms were clean and good maid service. A la cartes do require reservations even though website says they are not required. One a la Carte bows not require reservations but only 2 different menus. Food was pretty good...standard for Cuba. Overall a great time!
