Vila Gale Cayo Santa Maria: Beautiful resort

The resort and rooms were very clean. The grounds keepers worked very hard to keep the trees and gardens well kept. We spent most of our time at the beach which had plenty of beach loungers and access to 2 beach bars. The staff was very friendly in every area. We were unable to get into the ala-carte since they seems to fill up quick. The out door BBQ was great. The food was good but I wish they had a bit more variety. The omlette was really good along with the rice.

The grounds were beautiful - lots of palms and well-tended beds of hibiscus, azaleas and other colourful flowers. The buildings were laid out so that all rooms were close to one of the 2 pools and snack bars. The main buffet was central, with many washrooms available around the property. One pool had fun activities for those who wanted to participate; the other pool was quiet; plenty of lounges and canopied beds in sun and shade. The beach was wide with many more lounges. The sand was not groome [... read more]d so I would recommend water shoes for walking on the sand and for swimming. But wonderful for finding sea shells. American money is preferred for tips but Canadian was also accepted, even our toonies and loonies.

Vila Gale Cayo Santa Maria: Friendly staff, lovely pools, modern rooms

The resort was lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were pretty and clean, with a nice view of the ocean. The beach was nice white sand, but it could have been groomed regularly. The restaurants were fine. French, Mediterranean and Steakhouse all had mostly the same menu items cooked the same way so that was funny. Also it was a long drive from the airport.

Vila Gale Cayo Santa Maria: Amazing Hotel& Staff

This hotel& resort was amazing! Some staff did not speak English very well but if you’re patient they are extremely willing to help and are great to talk to. Beach was amazing! White sand with no rocks or seaweed, there’s also no fish or waves by the shore which was disappointing but you can do a scuba tour and see fish/coral. Entertainment was also 12/10 especially the MJ show. There were lots of activities like volleyball, dance lessons, bingo and more. Food was…..edible. Must bring seas [... read more]onings, ketchup, maybe some soups etc. there is only pork at the buffet and we only had chicken or potatoes available 1 out of 7 days but the ala cartes were much better as they offered turkey, beef and lobster. Also it’s located at least 50km from the nearest city so it’s a bit of a drive from the airport / excursions. If you can tolerate the food situation (average for Cuba especially since it’s an island it’s hard to get food), I would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking to book in Cayo Santa Maria:)

Grand Sirenis Mayan Beach: Terrific Value

We have been travelling to Mexico for 25 years and this was one of our best. For our 50th wedding anniversary, we brought our 3 kids, their husbands and wives and our 7 grandchildren, ages 12 to 18. One of our friends recommended the Grand Sirenis for children and they were right on target. The rooms are modern and bright. We were happy with the jetted tub and the shower. Well distributed so that each of the pools were available, but not over crowded. The two pools popular with our grandkids each had nets for volleyball and water polo. The pool nearest our room had an ice cream shop, that was well used. Buffet options were great. From breakfast to supper, we always had great choices. While there we were able to book both the Japanese, and the Steak House for all 15 of us. My wife and I also ate at the Mexican, the Italian and the Mediterranean, which we really enjoyed. The Lazy River was very popular with all of us. It became a place for everyone to relax. Our only wish would be for a better beach. It is not only rocky, but very small over all. Snorkeling was fun, but walking miles on the sand was not a thing. My wife and I went to the "secret" lagoon. It was too wavy that day but a very interesting site. During our 2 weeks there, the elevator for our second floor room died and was out of business for a couple of days. The elevator to the main buffet/reception, worked the first day and not after that. Staff were great. The concierge people were very helpful. Isaac was our guy and he was friendly and greeted us every time we passed. The bars and restaurants were well placed and we made good use of them all. A number of us liked to finish our swim day with cappuccinos at the coffee bar. Toward the end of our stay we had rain and that turned the tile floors into skating rinks. We would certainly recommend this resort to others.

The resort grounds are very nice and well kept. Pools are fine. The rooms are very clean and sufficient. They will replace towels every couple days. Water is given every day in the mini fridge. No beer or soft drinks. Make friends with the lady’s cleaning your room. Treat them well and they will try hard to please you. The beach is beautiful definitely a lot of shells in the sand so be careful. The staff try very hard but the situation is very different in Cuba now. Emilio in the animation group was very attentive and always tried to talk to and please the guests. The food is not great but you will not starve it definitely is repetitive. Try and bring items to help ease that like peanut butter, salad dressing, ketchup, hot sauce, syrup, and snacks for your room. They are limited in variety but are doing the best with what they can get. You just have to be creative with what’s in front of you. We were there 3 weeks and it was fine. I would definitely recommend this resort but be prepared do your research.

Vila Gale Cayo Santa Maria: Great resort!

Overall we strongly recommend this hotel compared to other Cuban resorts in Santa Maria. Good thing to know , it’s the first stop when you arrive from the airport on the bus, and the last pickup when you leave at end of your stay so no need to stop at every hotel after 1.5 hours of bus ride. Food is ok but repetitive like every resort in Cuba. No chicken on in Cuba due to supply chain issues . Very clean, beach is excellent but music a bit loud if your room is in the center building facing th [... read more]e pool . You get what you pay for , no need to complain about the food if you compare to other Caribbean destinations that will cost you at least 500-1000$ more per person for a similar hotel. 4.5 stars we give out of 5.

The resort was very spacious and kept in great condition. The service was amazing and the staff was extremely friendly, the food wasn't the best it was very hard to feel full after every meal but aside from that I 100% recommend this resort to anyone considering visiting Cuba. There is a lot to do no matter the time of day

The resort was great, clean! The personnel was ok, some are amazing, some are just ok. The food was also ok, every day the same:) Kind of sad, but still ok, can survive. LOL The beach!!!! OMG, loved it. Rooms are great, luck of room service. Wi-Fi very weak, they give the access for couple of hours, and you have to call the lobby to update it, does not work everywhere. Will we go there again?! For sure as for me is more important the ocean and the beach!

Vila Gale Cayo Santa Maria: Beautiful Resort for the price

The resort is absolutely beautiful. It is clean and has many amenities. There is lots to do for everyone. The entertainment is awesome! We especially liked Enrique who took my family snorkeling and got us fresh coconuts. There was an awesome bartender at the tiki bar who took great care of us (forget his name). The food was just okay, but apparently the best in most of Cuba (we are a bit fussy. We would definitely go again!

Grand Sirenis Mayan Beach: Fantastic Resort!

A beautiful and clean resort full of friendly, warm, welcoming staff. Food was great! Both the buffet and a la carte restaurants had lots of variety and options for everyone. Excellent family atmosphere, the pools, beach and lazy river were lots of fun for all. Rooms were gorgeous, clean, comfortable - the jacuzzi and the rain shower were amazing after a day in the sun.

Gorgeous resort, the people are very sweet. The entertainment is awesome. If you want to party, this is the place to be! The cleaning of the main hallways could be better. The food was good, but lacking fried foods like chicken and fries/ burgers.

The hotel covered acres of lush tropical landscape leading to a wide pristine beach. Rooms overlooking the ocean were spacious, clean and well equipped with daily maid service. Food was diverse and plentiful with friendly staff at every corner. Pools were well maintained and easily accessible complete with bar. Overall a great place for r and r. The hotel is very nice. The beach is incredible. The staff are wonderful. The resort is severely understaffed on a day to day basis. Two staff members for an entire dining section in the buffet is unacceptable, to guests and more importantly to the staff. I love Cuba but the food is always very, very poor. I don’t understand it because Cuba is capable of growing anything, especially fruit and vegetables, which are sorely lacking at this and the other Cuban resorts I have vacationed. I mean people taking 3-4 LOAVES of bread for a table of 4. Plates of 10-15 chicken breasts. Plates of 20-25 desserts. Other guests doing without because food trays stayed empty. It was disgusting and if you’re reading this and recognize yourself you should be ashamed. What must the Cuban people think of us when they see this gross behaviour?

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Amazing Resort

The Grand Serenis has something for everyone. The rooms were like the pictures on website. Buffet had great variety and the a la cartes were fantastic. This resort had a beautiful waterfront especially for the snorkel lovers. There is several pools, a lazy river, children’s water play area, disco, entertainment and an abundant amount of different wildlife. It is a lot of walking as the resort is large. Nice and quiet resort. Rooms are nice but needs maintenance. Some rooms have plumbing issues or shower leaks. No hot water. Some arent clean when checked in. First floor has lots of mosquitoes. Second/third floor has nice ocean views and less bugs. We had a group of 30 people. Public washrooms are dirty except near lobby. All week long is the same food. There is 1 show per night. Over all I would rate 7/10 for this cuba resort. It's cuba! Known for the beach not the food. We had a nice quiet week of relaxation. For the price, it's pretty good.

Vila Gale Cayo Santa Maria: Unpleasant experience

There are issues in this resort with cleaning : dirty dishes, dirty rooms. The buffet has major issues with shortage of staff and food . I have been over 25 times in Cuba and I have never seen a resort not to have enough bread ! The lines ups for food are anywhere form 45 min to one hour. The staff are exhausted with tourists demands and frustration, to get a glass of water or a drink at the buffet you will wait 20 min or more. If there is soup, there are no spoons and many other complains.  [... read more] We were traveling with a child and we did need to wait in line to get some food for our kid, otherwise, we will be starving until breakfast , the only decent time to eat. The room was cleaned about 3 times for the entire time we were there, we were 3 people in the room , we only had 2 towels and we were lucky I guess because other people had one or no towels! The beach is amazing , the water activities are really good. The music is too loud , so if you are looking for a quiet place to relax , this is NOT the place. I felt robbed going to this hotel, I do NOT recommended unless you get a supper deal. By the end of the trip, we realized that the biggest problem in the resort is the management , not capable to hire enough people, or to provide the proper training and organize the resort properly .

The resort was lacking in the basic services. Poor hygiene, poor room cleaning with no towel/soap/shampoo change and 1 towel available in a 2 people's room. Lack of general basic supplies (No toilet paper in public washrooms, toilet paper used as restaurant tissues, no hand sanitizer available in the corresponding containers). The only positive notes were the overall friendly staff, the entertainment and a nice beach. However, there was a totally deceiving hotel advertisement. The resort is barely a 2/3stars!

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Grand Sirenis is nice...but not what it used to be

We have been to the Grand Sirenis several times in the last decade and we can honestly say we are saddened by the state of things. Oddly, some things have been improved..the beds are better and the bathroom plumping seems to have been upgraded. However the food is not as good as it once was, the bars use very low grade calibre spirits, the entertainment has plummeted, and the overall service level is lower. However we have seen are real drop in the quality of water life. We used to see turtles off the beach all of the time. But we haven't seen any or even heard of any over our last two visits in the past year.The people remain nice. I wonder if they lost all of their staff during the pandemic and are still trying to train the newbies. It is about an hour and a half drive south of the airport at Cancun. We always rent a private transfer ($210) because a bus can stop at several resorts first adding an additional two hours onto the transfer from the airport to the hotel.
