Beautiful Resort

Brand new resort. Amazing staff and service. The food was wonderful. the pools had the best views of the ocean. the beach still needs some work , but the pools more than make up for it. The rooms are amazing, nice big balconies, beautiful bathrooms. I would give this hotel a 5 star rating

Beautiful Hotel and friendly staff.

We spent March break at this hotel. The photos you see on internet doesn't do the hotel justice. It is very nice and the grounds are beautiful. Initially, we were a little sceptic, but we discovered a beautiful place. It is located a beautiful beach that is kind of hidden and is a small walk away. Pilar beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world is only minutes away by bus. Truly beautiful and not that busy...yet, but there are a lot of new construction in the area. The food was good [... read more], but it is Cuba. The shows with professional dancers were excellent. The only negatives we would have about the resort are some line ups at the buffet, beds in the room are small (48" beds). There is nothing to visit in the area, but that was ok with us. We took the catamaran excursion, stopped twice for snorkelling and one at Pilar beach and once at Media Luna Island for lunch. We ate chicken and langoustines. It was a beautiful and peaceful place to enjoy our delicious barbecued lunch. Poor staff however who have to travel at least an hour an half every morning and night to get to and back from work to Moron or Ciego de Avila while they keep their smile. I would not recommend the International à la carte restaurant however. The Indian and Italian restaurant were excellent. Great vacation all around.

Nice resort

Nice resort, beautiful beach, lovely swimming pools. La carte restaurants were very good. The buffet was slow and served basically the same food each day. Public washrooms were always broken. No towels available bring your own, and you must get up before 7am to get a chair on beach or at the pool. Staff was very helpful. Entertainment was good.

Good Resort

Grounds were great washrooms were all blocked cleaning lady needs to get trained to clean need more help at bars you wait five to ten minutes to get a drink or longer you have to go early to eat at buffet or there were no seats have to wait in line for 30 minutes or more to get cooked eggs you also would have to wait for coffee or juice if you got any at all new place but way under staff showers in room leaked bad water all over floor drain in shower did not drain reported it no one come floor [... read more] was wet hole time there no water or pop beer in frigid for the first two day's there Are Rep from Air Transit went to see them and got some action Thank you Rep from air transit

Great Resort

The rooms were great, clean airy and the mini fridge stocked every day. The buffets were good and the restaurants were good our favourite being the “Italian”. The beach was fantastic, maybe a few more huts for shade would’ve been nice but a fantastic beach. There also was a disco and bowling lanes just outside the resort. The staff were friendly and very helpful. We will be keep this resort high on our list for a return visit.

Great resort!

Beautiful resort with great staff! Rooms very clean, we could always find something to eat at the buffet. The Italian a la carte was delicious! The beach is gorgeous! The pool area is just beautiful! I would return to this resort again, as we had a very pleasant stay!!

Great Resort and Great Staff Muthu IMPERIAL

We had actually booked the Grand Muthu but were bumped over to the new Muthu right next door....Imperial Muthu. This is an adults only resort that is brand spanking new. We arrived at 1 PM and our rooms were already ready. Service was of course quite exemplary given the limited guests at the resort. We got the rooms we had asked for which were quite modern looking. Giant glass shower with rain head and body nozzle. It leaked a bit around the base but there was tons of hot water... almost [... read more] too hot. Maid staff was great and fast. No issues with service at the espresso bar or any bar for that matter. Particularly great for me was the Cigar Lounge .. where you could actually buy a cigar and smoke. Full bar with coffee or expresso . Limited selection of cigars but I had bought some from the Grand Muthu which was a one minute walk away. Bell staff would drive you if you asked. The cigar lounge and sports bar were right beside a great courtyard where you could enjoy an afternoon puff or coffee away from the winds. Food is pretty typical of Cuba but with the resort fairly empty we got our food for breakfast, lunch or dinner very quickly. Of course the staff in the buffet was amazing as usual in Cuba. No issues with the food either at the snack bar of the buffet. Drinks were great as is typical of Cuba. As a new resort, they had not fully completed the beach with newer soft sand. It was pretty gritty sand and the walk into the water was a bit rocky although other Beach positive guests just used water shoes. Lots of chairs and shade. Pools were all fantastic although the palm trees were still a bit immature so limited shade from trees. They supplied large beds and some umbrellas and lots of Pergolas. No need to save your pool chairs in this place. Water was clean and pool was very well kept. Entertainment was pretty impressive with several different types of entertainment. None of the schmaltzy Michael Jackson stuff. Some fantastic vocalists both in the Theatre and in the Lobby. One group was very impressive. Grupo Perspectiva which played traditional Cuba that made everyone want to dance. Fantastic group. I met quite a few people who were there for TWO WEEKS. They hated to leave. It was a tranquil and relaxing place that should please most people.

Great new resort

2 couples in their 60’s from Feb 12-22/19. Imperial opened only 3 weeks prior to arrival. So beautiful.Some confusion as to keeping 4 of us together quickly rectified. My biggest negative would be the concrete ‘lips’ or step-ups outside dining/bar areas on walkways which my husband experienced (trip hazard). Loved housekeeper Restyysohe who did an amazing job+.(bring sm. Coffeemate) Safe battery problem fixed quickly with call to front desk. Great a/c and hot rain shower. Restaurants-A la cartes not quite sorted out but did 2 Internationals & 1 Seafood- very good. Mexican & Chinese coming soon as well as Beach Ranchon. Breakfast buffet was excellent and there were daily changes to lunch & dinner selections (including both hot & cold lobster one evening). Again, wonderful service. Egg/omelette station was the best (thanks Rigoberto) in morning and delicious premade strawberry smoothies! Pools/grounds- 3 lovely terraced pools (2 infinity and one edge of activity area) kept very clean. Lounge mattress & umbrellas brought as you set up. (Davies(.: Beach bar (Jennifer & Maceo) and pool service (Youndreys) was over the top prompt & fun. Grounds pretty lush, thanks to gardeners in spite of storms and being new build. Entertainment/activity-daytime music typical-off & on. 10 am stretching was amazing overlooking the Caribbean. Also, Zumba, lazy games, Spanish dance & language, bingo, pool volleyball & aerobics. Do or don’t but I sure had fun with them all. After their shift at the pool you will see many working at the theatre pm’s. Miss these people already. We really enjoyed the lobby pre-dinner too- singers, xylophone, piano (maybe too mellow for younger crowd-try next door).Nightly shows after dinner very good but sadly one I found distasteful involved a suicidal ‘zombie’ & noticed several people walk out on that one. One night we got an incredible ‘Rock Show’. (believe the dancers had a well-deserved night off). Lobby/reception- always quick & courteous with great banking. Please visit when they’re not ck’ing In/out people and understand single pesos are limited (as in all ofCuba)at 1 time. 2 other very worthwhile bars near the lobby are Cigar Bar (William) for great cigar & premium beverage or Sports Bar (Vereena) for pool table or foosball. Lots of fun!! Beach- directly in front of resort is coral- no big deal. Wear shoes (I just had on flip flops) and go to left for quiet cove beach or head right past G. Muthu & crowd (not that far) to find spectacular sandbar, turquoise walking beach -HEAVEN for miles. We, all 4, loved this resort and can’t wait to return.

Decsent resort

Nice resort. Not too big. Buffet a little tight. Bad service all around. Washrooms always out of toilet paper or paper towels. Buffet and 24 hour restaurant always out of certain foods. Rooms very nice and modern. Cleaning of the rooms was very good. Alcohol choices were descent. Mostly polite and welcoming service. Just really slow. Beautiful pools. Descent gym. Could use another pool and a couple more machines in the gym.

Relaxing Vacation

We just returned from an all girls trip. The resort was very nice, clean! We arrived and it was very organized and smooth. Our room was very spacious and clean, we had three adult women in our room and it was great. The shower was a delightful rain shower! Our fridge was always stocked with water, cola and beer. We never had an issue getting a chair around the pool, however, there was not a lot of shade areas there. If you want shade you need to go to the beach. We didn't spend much time down at the beach but there was always something to do down there. (no washrooms) The food was sub-par but we did not go hungry. There was a great variety for the most part but the trays did not keep the food hot. Everything was luke warm unless you got something from the fresh grill. The a la carts were very good. I would have to say that it was very understaffed most times. The spa was the highlight of the vacation, they have a seperate spa area that was beautiful and the staff was excellent. Overall it was a great vacation!

Relaxing beautiful surroundings

The room was very modern and spacious. Comfy King size bed. The Beach and workers on the beach were phenomenal... The service in the dining area needs to improve and having more entertainment in the main lounge in the evening would have been nice.

Great resort

Staff is amazing, so friendly and professional. There just wasn't enough lounges at the beach or pool....If you didn't take your towels to throw on chairs to reserve before breakfast you were out of luck for the day. That just really sucked because we didn't figure that one out till our third day. Also disappointed with the reservations for the a la carts. 1 was booked for the whole week before we even got there, and every time we walked by it in the evening to go to and from the buffet it w [... read more]as half empty😣. It was a very clean. The beach was amazing.

Great Resort But Needs Some Wrinkles Ironed Out

Entertainment was fantastic. Rooms were very modern, and the maid service was really good. Buffet food was a bit boring and no change in the 7 days we were there. Long line ups for fried food both in the morning and at night. I would not recommend this hotel for this reason. A La Cartes were fantastic and service was excellent.

Lovely resort would go again

This is one of the best hotels for service with a breath taking beach. The staff go above and beyond and it is spotless. There were issues with the pool bathrooms. They need to put garbage cans in the stalls so they dont get clogged. Food was not as good as last year but it is one of the best all inclusives Cuba has to offer. 4 to 4.5 star. Note even tho we didnt travel with children they had tons to offer in fun and games with the kids

the good: grounds - well maintained, no garbage around, trimmed and green pools - gorgeous, infinity pool has the best view in cuba beach - good for long walks, close to Playa Pilar the not so good: public washrooms - in rough shape, don't bother with pool-side food - it's Cuba! :)

The good, the bad & other choices

Let’s look at the good... Nice location at the end of Cayo Coco. Weather was quite favourable. Staff were always nice, polite and easy to talk to. Resort was clean and mostly well presented. Not so good... Checked in and found our room not ready. Ok we were a little early for checkin. When we got to our room we found two double beds vs 1 king or queen as requested. Went back to front desk to see if they could get us into another room and were told sorry no. Hotel is sold out and they†[... read more]™re expecting 300 more guests that day. Also, this is a family hotel and most prefer two beds. I of course pointed out that if 2 beds is preferred and there are 300 more people coming they should have no problem putting in a single bed room. (Btw, our flight was the first to arrive that day) Alas, no was the answer and check tomorrow. Hmm, check tomorrow was soon to become a very popular phrase during the flowing days. Additionally, our group of 3 couples had also requested a ground floor. Not a priority for myself but all of us were on the 3rd. A real difficultly for a few of us with health issues. Not how about some change at the front desk? Not today, sorry maybe tomorrow. Diet soda became an ongoing difficultly during the stay. Snack bar had diet cola but not the pool bar. Had to walk to the snack bar to get dc then back to the pool bar if you wanted a drink made with it. Next day, none at snack bar but some at lobby bar After that none at lobby bar but a few at pool bar. None at buffet restaurant maybe tomorrow. Hmm Ketchup? Ran out on day 2 entire resort for rest of week. Bathrooms, hotel room bathroom was nice, but often there was a septic odour wafting thru the building. Pool bathrooms were disgusting, partially closed and you had to put your hand thru the hole in the wall to flush. Snack bar bathrooms were open only 1 day for the week and I’m told for good reason. Btw, toilet paper was some what doled out and some rooms actually ran out. Maybe tomorrow Let’s talk about the nicely stocked refrigerators I the rooms. 2 beers, 2 colas, 1 bottle of water. They would remain stocked only if you didn’t use anything. We had our room restocked after requesting 3x in one day. And eventually we’re told if it didn’t show today we would get extra tomorrow. Our friends never got restocked. Too bad our cleaning lady didn’t look after that part of the house on. She was excellent. Restaurants ran out of stock daily. You could only guess what was or wasn’t going to be available that day. Butter? Maybe tomorrow. Ok yes tomorrow was the day. yah. I mentioned the resort was clean and well presented, except the public toilets. The view from the infinity pool was beautiful, looking out on the ocean. However there was an old volleyball court they had closed down. If it were not for the net still up you never would have known what was there. Haha just looked a little cheap and unkept. I know, a lot of complaints. Not really complaining, more like observations. Would I recommend this hotel? No not really. It’s was full and lots going on. I know there are worse places near there but also some nicer ones too! One other observation, the resort staff were very nice but they are all looking for tips for everything. I even had the chef point at his tip plate as he was about to serve me my dinner! Wtf! I think tipping is fine and am very happy to tip for services but come on! Really? Reminded me of Jamaica where even the advertising tells you to bring money for tips! I was not impressed by this behaviour at all!

Socializing at the Grand Muthu near the Ocean

My family & I were at the Grand Muthu in Cayo Coco from Jan 20th to 27th, 2019. Overall, I had a good time with my wife and son. Highlights for me were: meeting people from all over the world and socializing at the bar(s), enjoying the scenery, the pool and beach areas, as well as connecting with staff and tourists alike. In general, the food was enjoyable, especially the A la Carte Restaurant seafood. I would enjoy returning there for another family vacation in the sun.

NICE NEWER RESORT

The rooms are very new with rainfall showers. You have several English TV stations with a few sport stations and movie stations. The pool areas are very nice with nice infinity pool. Games throughout the day are fun for all. Main lobby is very open and well set-up with piano player or singing entertainment most evening. There is 24 hr eating area near the main pools with hamburgers, hot dogs, ham and cheese sandwiches and fries. We do not drink but others at the resourt stated the drinks a [... read more]re prepared with a lot of care and others told us the quality was very high. To have to go to one side of the resort on short walk to access the main beach area which has long stretch of excellent white sandy beach. You can walk for long way to pass the other resorts. Lots of beach chairs. Some stated there were sand flies so ensure you take bug spray. Every lunch hour there is a great buffet restaurant just as you approach the main beach where they will grill you meats on a BBQ. Better than the main buffett for lunch. The Italian restaurant is by far the best with large pizza choice for appetitizer and we had the great steak for main course. The India had small dishes and the International restaraunt was not very good meal with only one choice. These two a la carte had small portiosn so Italian is the place to go. You can always find something to eat...take some condiments to enhance food flavour. There is a bus that you can take to go to another beach but you have to pay for chairs and the bus is 5 pesos for entire day and it goes to market. Did not do this although was advised the bearch is even more beautiful that main beach next to resort. In the main resort there are nice lounge chairs and some mattress covered gazebos but like all resorts you have to get their before the rush of loungers. Most times you can get something before 1000 am. We went from 16-23 Jan and the weather was a little wind and partially cloudy so not really very hot but still better than winter at home by far. The pool water is considered cooler but all the kids are in for entire time and great to go for quick dip. The beach water is warmer and you can go out 200 feet and only be up to waist. Same great white sand as all Cuban resorts or locations - amazing and so clear. The only point is overall servcie during main buffet as you had to wait for coffee or tea on your table most times and plates and utensils we had to wait for them to replenish with line-ups most times. Normal for main resorts but first time we had to wait for plates and had to often go get own coffee as they were slow on that service compared to having been in Varaderro on three other occasions. The entertainment was pretty good at this resort compare to other hotels. Resort is new as it opened in Mar 18 with sister adult only resort next to it which is now opened since Feb 19. The staff are all very nice but the resort must improve customer service to ensure repeat customers. We would likely try another resort if we rtn to Cuba and go Apr-May or later for hotter time pd. Mid 70s or 23-25 are still great. We are not overly fussy about things so overall this was very new and well maintained resort which has to resolve some minor customer service to ensure repeat patrons.

Fun in the Sun at the Muthu

I had a great time at the Grand Muthu during my week there (Jan 20 to 27, 2019). Highlights were meeting new people, making friends, enjoying the bar and friendly staff. The food at the buffet was not the best, but I really liked the freshly cooked shrimp & calamari. I also liked the A la Carte Restaurant food & staff. The beach, the pools and hotel grounds were very beautiful. Overall, the atmosphere at the Grand Muthu was great! I enjoyed some fun in the sun with my family!

Very Nice Hotel

This hotel is worthy of a 4+* rating for Cuba as it is new, there are a few minor issues regarding toilets not flushing/ or out of service completely in public areas which is the only complaint we had. The rest of the Hotel and grounds are spotless and well taken care of. the food was good and quite a variety to choose from, we never once seen long line ups for grilling stations as reported. The rooms are very modern with most having some partial ocean view. The beach area is very nice and you c [... read more]ould walk out quite a distance and still be only waist high, the seaweed is cleaned up every couple days, the pools are clean and a la cartes are great, we had no issues. There were a lot of kids there and next time we will stay at New Hotel Imperial which is now open and Adults Only and a very Beautiful Hotel next door (we toured it)
