Nice Resort

Beautiful grounds; nice rooms; towels and sheets often had musty odour; food was hit or miss; drinks were watered down; entertainment was professional but repetitive; music throughout stay was great; MCs (especially the women) had most annoying voices; rocky beach in front of hotel had no access to ocean. Finally, if your blood type is 0-, watch out! I got eaten alive! I think part of the problem was that the hotel did not spray the grounds sufficiently.

Absolutely fantastic week!!

My husband and I loved our stay at the resort!!! It is beautifully kept, the staff are amazing, and we had the best time. No waits for food, plenty of pool and beach chairs. We will definitely go back!!

Resort fine. No beach.

Resort was very clean and modern. No beach. Very disappointing. Very limited juices for drinks. No orange juice for breakfast. Food fine but very limited choices Swimming pool was very large and clean. No bar at large pool

Amazing

Everything on this resort was beautiful rooms pools food was alright not too much variety less than the normal for Cuba . the only disappointment was there was no beach at all just bush and rocks had to go next door but that wasn't great either .pillar beach was about 15 min away and it was amazing

Amazing resort.

Loved my stay at the resort - if you wanna be almost alone, mid-sept is perfect. First time I had such a comfy mattress (maybe pillows can be improve), beautiful room with an overview on the resort - perfect. Everything was always cleaned-up, all the staff was nice, friendly and helpful. The 3 pools are quite big (yet, there was barely anyone!) and the infinity pool makes the show!! The beach of the resort is yet small but ... so far, not user friendly: way too many big broken seashells spread  [... read more]everywhere on the beautiful white sand, impossible to enjoy the water - big broken rocks/corals everywhere to the point it is impossible to walk even with shoes. This is definitely the point where the managing must resolve because what's the point of having a beach if it's not possible to get there. Please make sure it'll be resolve because i really loved the place and although i loved doing my lengths in the pool, i travel South first for enjoying the beach and the ocean.

Nice location

The hotel looks very nice and is clean. Rooms are nice, pool loungers are comfortable and there is lots of options for seating. Food was not good, same options every day/night at buffet. Entertainment was the same thing every night and was rather boring. Would have enjoyed more interaction with the guests, like little game shows or something. Was just dancing to different music each night.

Awesome resort

The resort was amazing The staff was very friendly and helpful And the place was spotless and the food was very good specially it is in Cuba We meet so many great people there and hope to be back there in the spring.

The good and the bad

The good: - Amazing workers, and very hard working especially Yasmani, Ismani, Liuba, and Anniel Hernandez ! They are the ONLY reason we would visit the resort again as well as the other workers because everyone was respectful and great. - Beaches and pools were perfect. - entertainment every night and all dancers were phenomenal -Disco parties at night had amazing music and dancing. The bad: - Food was always slightly and sometimes severely undercooked (got sick even though I had immuniza [... read more]tions before trip). Cooks were always respectful and kind but the taste of the food was always bad (ALL FOOD) which we expected so we had our own condiments (salt, pepper, hot sauce) and ate fries on most days. - maids were always extremely kind but they are trained to use the same broom to clean all toilets and that is beyond disgusting. After seeing that once, I cleaned my own washroom and told maids not to go near the washroom for the 7 days. Poor economy and no cleaning resources are to blame, not the lovely maids. - hotel and room always kept very clean but like I said in the previous point, using proper cleaning equipment would have made me happy. I was constantly afraid that I might catch hepatitis A because no gloves are used and cleaners MIGHT clean washrooms and change pillow cases without washing their hands (fecal - oral route of disease transmission). - we had Ants in our room and bed and pillows (not many ants, maybe 20 in room, and 10 in bed) so bring ant spray. The other people we travelled with had no ants in their room and we checked as we are a family.

It was good enough

It was good enough, but not good enough for a 5-star hotel The beach was rocky and small, had to take a cart to go to a sand beach. The food was not good. I've never seen such a small buffet. Almost no veggies, no olives, no shrimp, very limited snack in general. Only the desserts were good. We were given a shampoo only once. The staff was very pleasant and friendly. The staff gets 5 stars, the rest wasn't impressive.

Amazing!!!!

This hotel was absolutely perfect! It wasn't huge and had more of a small resort feel so it didn't take very long to get to the buffet/lobby/beach/pools/snack bar etc. The food was great- lots of variety. Even if they didn't have tortillas one night, all we had to do was ask and they made us whatever we wanted with the tortillas (tacos, quesadillas). The staff were unbelievable, happy, positive and willing to help with whatever was needed. Lots of adventures to go on as well to give variety. We  [... read more]learned we could just take a short taxi to wherever we wanted to go and pay at the door (swim with the dolphins) and not pay the airline price which was usually double. The weather was perfect which was great! We will absolutely go back here :)

MGM Grand Muthu Imperial

Stayed from Sept 6-Sept 13 Beach: Pretty long beach, from the beach bar to MGM Rainbow is around a 1km walk and some change. Closer to the bar there are the seashells but the further you go left, it turns into sand. There is seaweed that washes up on shore, it was raked once on Wednesday but the rest of the week it just accumulated, especially after the big storm we got on Monday. We stayed in the furthest palapas to the left all week since the water had the least amount of rocks there. Since [... read more] it was low season there were times it was only me and my girlfriend in the water at any given time. I counted 20 people max 1 day. When it's low tide and the water is calm it looks beautiful. Construction occurred at MGM Rainbow but not once did we hear any noise at all from that end. Resort grounds: Clean and modern, the lawn care group kept the grounds looking spotless, there are levels going from the main floor down to the infinity pool, lots of stairs and ramps for those with mobility issues. Lots of sunbeds for everybody. We are a beach couple and I never go to the pool at an all-inclusive, but at Grand Muthu, I actually got in since there were so few people haha. There are crabs walking around, more at night than anything but we didn't mind them as they weren't a bother to anyone. If anything we found them interesting to watch walk around. We just thought they were part of the resort. Same thing with the resort cats that lived on the grounds as well. Shoutout to my guys Usmael and Angel for hooking it up with the fresh coconuts when we asked for some. Room: Once again clean and modern, the bed was nice and firm which we liked. The bathroom was spacious, had some leaking from the shower but what all-inclusive shower doesn't leak lol. An interesting quirk was that the mirror (for looking at your outfits) was in the bathroom and not outside by the front door which was weird as there was a giant space there clearly made for a mirror. Girlfriend also noticed there was no outlet in the bathroom for hair straightener etc. We were in bungalow 9, 3rd floor overlooking the pool, right next to the stairs so we only had a neighbour to our right and below us. We were originally placed in 2B but I requested a different room asap while we were still checking in on Friday Night. It looks like they put most of the guests in 2B/9 and some in 7/8, the rest looks closed or were being used by resort staff is my guess. Food: Was actually good by Cuban all inclusive standards. there was some repetitiveness but there was always something to eat. There was never a shortage although, we only got bacon on Thursday and Friday. Shoutout my guy Ronaldo at the omelete stand, he knew my order down pat. The ala cartes were also surprisingly good except international, that salmon is bad as somebody here had mentioned previously. We had Seafood, Asian, international all in the restaurants next to the buffet. the restaurant by the beach was still closed. That snackbar is clutch for a bite to eat at any time. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive and did their jobs professionally. Bar: Service was solid, we got our drinks quick enough, not sure if the low occupancy rate had to do with this. One observation to be made was that the pool bar closed at 5pm, at this time there were still people at the pool who had to go to the snackbar for a drink. Shows/Entertainment: We only went to a couple but they were enjoyable to watch. We liked live music performances as they are very talented. Big shoutout to the piano guy playing requests and songs after 8pm, he's good. Entertainment staff did their job keeping people involved, we as beach people missed most of it haha but did you really stay at the MGM Grand Muthu Imperial if you didn't do the dance at least once? (people who have stayed will know this lol) All in All a great stay. We didn't really have any issues. We had requested late checkout on the house but they said we had to pay even tho the resort was empty and they had many rooms to spare. We booked with Holasun via Tripcentral and our rep was helpful but would not haggle on the excursion prices at all which is a first as Sunwing/Air Transat/West Jet/AC usually have some wiggle room. Might be because of low season? At first, it was weird to see so few people, the pool guy said there were 113 people as of wednesday but we enjoyed the calmness of so few people and everybody having their own space at the resort We enjoyed our stay at the MGM Grand Muthu Imperial. I am not one to return to the same resort ever but I am curious what this place would be like with the resort with more people, resorts all opened and the beach completed. I would definitely recommend this place

Amazing Holiday!!

We were very impressed with the hotel. The rooms was great and very clean each day of our stay. Modern bathroom with rain style shower head. We had a king bed in our room with oceanview, bed was very comfrortable. Our maid created amazing decorations with towels and flowers on our bed every day. Our trip was from Sept 2 to the 9th and it was very quiet as it is low season. We had choice of lounges or beds with overhead pergolas. We spent most of our time at the pool area. Service at the h [... read more]otel was excellent. We went to the beach one day only. As per other reviews we knew that it is a bit rocky from the beach bar to the beach, water shoes or sandles may this short walk a breeze. The food is typical Cuban, but I found we had more choices at the buffet than previous trips. One nice feature was the 24hr snack bar that actually had a menu.. We had fish and chips and even poutine. Yasme, the entertainment director is a human dynamo, he is there from morning till late evening. From the gardeners, waitstaff ,bartenders, to the #1 bus driver in Cuba, they are so eager to please you and make your trip enjoyable. Nightly entertainment was great. We only booked 1 a la carte restaurant and it was the Chinese and was very good. We also took advantage of the romantic dinner that was 30 cuc pesos per person, they had our table all decorated and we were served an appetizer followed by a soup then the main wich consisted of lobster, steak rice and veg with deep fried ice cream . We even had a four piece group come and sing at our table. We had a very good time, weather was good, we left 35 degree weather to come back to a cool 12 degrees. We would return again....

Great Resort (nice & intimate)

I stayed at this resort with my boyfriend and we had a great time! The resort and rooms were clean and spacious. It is obvious that this is a newly renovated resort ~ nice decor. Staff were friendly and very helpful. The resort was on the emptier side when we stayed here so service was great (we went mid august). There was never long lineups when it came to getting food at the buffet or ordering drinks. In terms of the a la carte restaurants the international restaurant was our favourite of the three we went to. The pool and pool chairs are great. The infinity pool was nice and it overlooks the ocean. It feels like you are right at the beach. The beach at this resort is a little rocky and not the best, however, the beach at the neighbouring resort was beautiful and we had full access to the beach there so when we wanted a beach day we went there. We also booked the excursion to go to Pilar Beach ~ the beach was beautiful with clear water and white sand. Very worth the trip if you love the beach!

Worst resort ever including management

Worst resort ever including management I stayed for 14 days first time in Cuba and I can only say be my last time in Cuba a complaint and my complete one from the bellboy to the front desk to the customer service right to the management to the head management and nothing got done for me I definitely will never ever suggest this hotel to anyone

Disappointed

First want to say that all the staff and service was outstanding and very friendly and welcoming. Also the guests were nice. We met two nice couples and had a good time with them. The pool, beach and food choices were poor. Watch out for mosquitoes. There are millions and repellent they sell at the resort is expensive and doesn’t work. We got a great deal but I wish I had spent a little more and gone back to Varadero.

Relaxing resort

Tranquil, relaxing, extremely inviting. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Food was tasty. If you like pasta and pizza you are in for a real treat. However there is a lack for fresh greens. We were expecting more fish dishes, this to us was a disappointment

Great geataway!

The hotel was super clean and beautiful. The staff we’re incredibly friendly and genuinely helpful!. And the food was quite enjoyable. The staff are always on and making sure everyone was having a good time. Ensuring that there was something to do and some sort of entertainment.

Bad experience

I have been to different resorts in Cayo Coco and I like the area and the service received from the wonderful Cuban people. They are always very friendly and go out of their way for you. This resort was the worst I have ever been too. It may have been because it was off season, so I can excuse some of the lack of service but the basic services were not anywhere near a 4 star Room was spacious and clean, unless you took a closer look in the corners and the dust bunnies were multiplying. For  [... read more]a new hotel there shouldn’t be mold on the ceiling or on the bathroom. The shower leaked everywhere, had to use 3 towels everyday to dry the floors. My husband has a disability and nearly fell twice. Complained 3 times and we were told someone would have a look and nothing changed. Spoke too other guest who also stated their showers leaked all over too. The problem was the doors and around the bottom of shower where the glass meets the tiling had no rubber or grout, so the water would leak out. Food was horrible, minimal selection and what there was, was repeated at every meal. Thank goodness for omelets and the pasta station. Beach, all I can say is there is no beach at this resort. The sister resort next door had a nice beach, but you needed to walk over rocks to get to the beach because you were not able to walk a walkway from the one resort to the other and once you were at the sister resort you were not even allowed to have a drink of water. Pools, were not cleaned. There was grim around the edges and the bottom was never cleaned. The decks were never cleaned, no one picked up even cushions that fell off chairs. If you wanted an umbrella you needed to wait to find someone to bring you an umbrella. The main gathering area was extremely hot, that you could not sit in there and enjoy the evening entertainment. I understand it is the tropics, but the least they could do is having ceiling fans to move the dead air around. I felt sorry for the people working in this area, as it is truly unbearable.

Nice resort!

We were at gran muthu imperial from Aug 7-14/19. We read reviews extensively before we went and can say that most of them were bang on! The water is beautiful and the weather was perfect. Pools were lovely especially infinity pool overlooking the turquoise water. Our room was amazing. Large and clean and cold. We Just ordered the standard room but it had an ocean view too. We stayed in building 9 on the third floor facing the pools. Beach was more rocky than expected. You could access the water [... read more] for our resort but it was a long walk to the left of our resort. We were told we could use the sister resorts beach but we were given a hard time walking thru the lobby to get to their beach. It is lovely. Sandy and shallow for miles. Crystal clear waters. Also did the catamaran trip (awesome if you like snorkelling) and went to Pilar beach too. Definitely a must see. Staff was pleasant and attentive at our resort but nothing over the top like previous resorts we’ve visited in the past in Cuba. Actually the staff at our nautical centre where we rented kayaks and flippers to snorkel had zero personality. Reviews about watered down drinks at pool bar seem accurate. The drinks weren’t great for that matter. Tasteless for most part. Best drinks were in the lobby bar. Can’t speak for the beach bar cause no one ever hung out there. Food was pretty standard for Cuba. Seemed like the same limited options day in and day out. We ate lunch daily at the open air snack bar food was decent there. Resort was very quiet. Only 200 guests while we were there. Hard to get the animation crew to inspire people to participate in afternoon activities. A prize bottle of rum would’ve been a good incentive to get more participation. Mosquitos were very bad in evening and early morning in the lobby. Bring bug spray. Overall a nice relaxing getaway.

Perfect vacation

My husband and I had the pleasure of stay at Gran Muthu Imperial from July 26 - Aug 2 and enjoyed every minute. The hotel is beautiful, very modern and upscale. The lobby provided so much space to relax and just enjoy the surroundings. The grounds and rooms are kept immaculate. We were upgraded to an ocean view room which was tended to every day by Mariliene. The room was spacious and very comfortable. We can't say enough about the staff we interacted with. It's clearly obvious that they have received excellent training and it shows in their professionalism and attentiveness. Each day we sat in the buffet and were attended to by Lisandra and Yanet who greeted us from the beginning with smiles and genuine kindness. The pools are beautiful, especially the infinity pool overlooking the ocean. We spent a lot of our time there just relaxing and enjoying the pool bar service with Jennifer and 'Y' (can't recall how to spell his name) who were funny and always welcoming. We found there was always a good selection of food in the buffet and always found something good to eat. The attention to detail is excellent. We also ate at the Chinese and International and enjoyed a good variety of professionally presented and tasteful dishes. Overall our vacation was exactly what we were looking for. Relaxing, stress free and with wonderful service. The resort met our expectations and we will definitely be back. Thanks for making our time away so special.
