Sunscape Puerto Plata: Amazing Staff!!

We have stayed at several resorts in Dominican and I would say Sunscape was one of if not the cleanliest. Staff was constantly cleaning, painting, trimming landscaping, cleaning pools, etc. In addition to the clean state of the facilities, I would say some of the highlights for us were: 1. not having to wear a plastic wristband all week 2. not being limited to number of a la cartes we could attend and not having to reserve 3. compact and orderly layout providing ease of movement 4. staff a [... read more]ctually responded to requests for more towels, blankets, etc. - our experience at other resorts would be negative, they rarely appeared. Above all, during our stay my sister-in-law had the misfortune on the last day of breaking her ankle. The medical & hotel staff were wonderful and very caring from tennis court attendant, to doctor, to hotel management, the concierge, the restaurant staff etc. They helped to make a difficult situation more bearable. We truly felt and experienced their concern for her well-being. We would not hesitate to return to Sunscape Resort, we had a most enjoyable vacation.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Very clean resort

This resort was the cleanest resort I have ever been to, they bleached all floors in your room , bathroom , and balcony everyday . They also bleached the hallways , pool area and main hall everyday . There was always people cleaning . When you went to dine in the buffet at anytime you were offered hand sanitizer . We had the royal package and found it was well worth it as you never had to worry about getting a chair at the private beach as they always found one for you and the bar and food servi [... read more]ce at the beach was excellent. The vintage club was very enjoyable and was nice to have the premium drinks as the cheap ones are pretty blah, also a lot quieter then pool area , it would be nice if it had a outdoor part as it is on the second floor . The a la cart restaurants are hit and miss some nights great some not . We liked the ocean grille best , then the Italian , and then the octopus. The food in the buffet was pretty good with a wide variety. Our room was just like the picture with a king bed in the renovated building , we heard scary stories about the building by the quiet pool very rundown . I recommend taking hangers with you as there are not many in the room and also there is no dresser in the room so you live out of your suitcase . Staff do not speak much English but they try . If you get the upgraded wifi it works great but the free wifi very slow . The upgraded is included in the royal package and each person gets their own wifi as it is only one device on one password . Lots of vendors on the beach constantly even on the private beach gets annoying after awhile . We were warned about drinking cream drinks as they can cause as they call it the Puerto splash 😁. I stuck with Jackie’s special for the resort drink . The free wine is not the greatest , I ordered a drink instead . Snorkelling is great out front the hotel as the are lots of reefs and wave breaks so you see lots of different fish and someone actually caught octopus in front of the hotel . Water is not deep , so great for kids . It is hard to get chair around main pool unless you get up early and put a towel on it , but I preferred the beach anyways so it didn’t bother me . Your entertainment is typical resort nothing great but not bad , they had karaoke, Michael Jackson impersonator,etc . I would recommend this resort.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Good

The service wasn’t that great here. Also the beach was lacking. The entertainment was pretty bad. Otherwise it was good but won’t go back to this one. Expected more from a four and a half stars. The stores are a massive rip off. Don’t buy from them.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Quite wheelchair Accessible

I am in a wheelchair, but also can use my rollator Walker for short distances, but there aren't many short distances. We have travelled. The pathways were in good shape and fairly flat. There are several ground floor rooms that should be asked for ahead of time. The toilet was directly behind the door, which wasn't good! There are only 2 bathrooms on site. They have good grabbers in the bigger stalls. Just be careful, as the floor is very slippery. There are ramps to all places, but you have to [... read more] look for them.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Great resort

Second time in four months! Smaller resort but lots going on. The Asian restaurant is great!!! All the staff super attentive. I’ll be going back. Juan at the preferred club lounge is super friendly and makes great bloody mary’s.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Great resort features other than the beach

Extremely clean and well taken care of. Great staff and very good food. Amazing a la carte restaurants with great service and food. The beach has two creeks/rivers on both sides of resorts and with the heavy rain, they make the ocean water very muddy. Pools were very well maintained and clean. A great place for those that do not spend time in the ocean.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Too many stairs

I found this resort mediocre. They try to take you on a tour to sell u vip package. Waste almost a full day. Because you are not a vip you do not have access to all alacarte restaurants. Also there is no premium alcohol available. The food is all right. However I was very disappointed in the seafood restaurant as I had my heart set on lobster and because I was not vip it was not available and when I order shrimp pasta there were only 2 salad size shrimp in the meal. Plus for the resort was [... read more] the multiple pools. However there was so many stairs it was hard getting around without some discomfort . I would not recommend this resort.

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Lovely Resort

The staff was very friendly, the food, while limited (Only 3 ala carte restaurants, was very good. The buffet had sufficient variety that I could eat very well, even though I am vegetarian. Vegans may have a bit more of a challenge. We went on some wonderful tours as well. The only downside is that if you want to go to the pool, unless you get there very early, the chairs are all taken, even though there are only a couple of people in the pool. Somewhere I had read that you should not reserve c [... read more]hairs, but this was largely not enforced. Some people prefer to spend a lot of time on the beach. We were warned that the beaches in Puerto Plata are not that good because the sand is not white. We did not care about that. The sand is similar to that of beaches in Ontario. We are also not the type of people that spend the entire time on the beach. We prefer to get out and visit the community we are in. This is what we did. We got to see a school, interact with the students, see a farm and spend time in the city.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Good time for the price

I've read a lot of bad reviews about this resort and some fair ones, I'll start with the good Pros: food was fantastic, pool was nice and resort was exceptionally clean and well looked after. The staff is amazing and always happy to help. Cons: air conditioner did not work and rooms smelt strongly of mildew. The smell was almost unbearable. The liquor was bottom shelf garbage and sugary mixed drinks. The beach was very rocky and always red flagged due to the current. Bring beach shoes. People [... read more] do pester you frequently on the beach just politely say no thanks. The reps are decent and the guides and nice. All in all its a nice resort well worth the money if you get it for a decent price. Be aware it's closing soon. Will revisit once it's upgraded!

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Very nice resort! Wonderful staff!

The hotel was very nice, super clean and the staff was wonderful! The food was very good. Note the resort is a smaller one so a bit different than a large resort. The staff were engaged with the visitors which was fun. I would recommend they upgrade their gym as it is old and small with some equipment not working, Also the sound system needs upgrading and the staff could use new costumes. Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Dependable

We chose this resort based on our experience at Iberostar Daiquiri, and found the resort dependable for service, cleanliness, good food selection and preparation, variety and entertainment. Knowing what to expect makes settling in quick and easy and negates the lost time getting oriented. Thank you Iberostar for, overall, a good experience. Room for improvement: Top of my complaint list is the local "artists" who appeared on (I think) Wednesday evening. EXTREMELY AGGESSIVE. Many guests commented that they did their best to walk the long way around to get to restaurants, but some had no choice but to walk the gauntlet. A couple of the public washrooms are way too small. At one of them, near the pool bar, the door to get in hits against the toilet before it is fully open, and the one near the lobby (not the one behind the lobby bar, that is good), but near the porter station, is also way too small. You can barely get your knees in the stall. As much as we like Iberostar, we will not go back to Puerto Plata. When the rain falls and all of the local pollution washes into the ocean, the beach is a shameful mess. Not shameful to staff, who do their best to clean up, but shameful to local control. When I'm swimming in the ocean and I bump into water bottles and disposable razors, I'll never go back. As a result, we may visit other Iberostar hotels, but not in the Dominican.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Older resort

This hotel would need a lot of renos, bathroom ceiling leak from the third floor into our bathtub, beds very hard and had to request pillows. Booked an adult only and had a young group of students on our floor who were very loud with music blasting,running and yelling in hallways. They should be aware of age and maybe keep a wing for party goers. Food was ok and VIP service - idea was there but the service was lacking!! I would not classify this as a five star. Not for the money we had to p [... read more]ay. Also had booked a day trip to the city but had to canc as my husband got sick in DR. Nothing was mentioned about a refund of approx $116.00 purchased on SUNWING flight down there.

Casa Marina Reef Resort: sunset pools are to die for

What we liked: The beaches and views were stunning. our air transat rep (Alberto) in the resort was amazing! it rained but only for 15 minute snippets everyday. The location is incredible, right y sousa beach, the distance from the airport is only 15-20 minutes, close to many of the excursions, and it was a very reasonable price. We spent every night watching the sunset, in one of the 3 sunset pools, absoutely breathtaking. Few things we didnt like: They took our shower towels early every da [... read more]y and usually forgot to bring them back. our phone broke and they wouldnt fix it so everytime there was a problem i had to go down and wait in a line instead of being able to call.(first world problems i know). The food was hit or miss, even at the el a cartes you have to wave down the servers to get any service. The drinks had to much alcohol in them that they were sooo far from enjoyable, the bars were understaffed as there was only 3 so they were ALWAYS busy, usually with 1 crappy bartender. All in all it was a good trip and we will definetly be back to dominican soon.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Hotel closing in one month - Sold to Senator Resorts

For the most part, the Resort was good. The biggest problem was people from the sister resort were coming and using ours. This cause poor service and long wait times. It took us 3 days just to get Beach towels. The FREE internet didn't work for 3-1/2 days. As everyone will be out of work in a month, as the new owners will renovate and reopen in November, some workers were not very happy.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Great Resort

This was our third visit to this resort and again we were not disappointed. The grounds were immaculate, the public areas were kept spotless, rooms were very nice and spacious and the food was very good and served hot. The food in the buffet was displayed beautifully and everything was kept very clean. We were here at the end of February and never had any problems finding a shady spot to relax. Plenty of lounge chairs everywhere. The entertainment was quite good.

VH Atmosphere: Fresh and luxurious resort

This resort was beautiful and new and great price for what you get. Good trip for relaxation.. older crowd and no night life. Would not go if you are young or looking to party. Amazing a la carte meals And good buffet. Gorgeous rooms and pool and views. Restaurant and bar on the beach is also great.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Had an amazing time!

The room was very clean- working AC, fresh towels, water and beer everyday and hot showers. Some of the rooms are far from the main area but they have carts they can drive you on, otherwise a walk never hurts you during an all inclusive. The food was fantastic, lots of variation. The buffet changed every night and the al cartes were fancy and delicious. Best food I have had at an all inclusive. (I have been to Cuba, Jamaica and Mexico). My only complaint was that the pool was closed 2 days due to "child accidents" but not much can be done about that. We did the 27 famous waterfall excursion and hike. It was beautiful and I would highly recommend it if you like exercise and adventure. Overall, our experience was fantastic. Everyone was very friendly (and Canadian). The service was also very nice and efficient. I would definitely recommend this resort.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: 100% Amazing resort!!!

Very simple. The entire resort was amazing from: rooms, bed, grounds, food, internment, staff, beach, cleanliness, activities, etc...nothing bad to. Had a amazing holiday and would return in a heart beat. Promoting this resort to all friends and coworkers.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Amazing Resort!

I enjoyed everything about this resort! I had so much fun and would most definitely go back! It’s a beautiful resort with great service and amazing food, I was amazed at how good the buffet and restaurants were! The employees there are so friendly and the entertainers do a great job in entertaining guests. The rooms were very clean as well as the public washrooms and the rest of the hotel/resort. I had a great week, I recommend for people of all ages! Thank you Gran Ventana!

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Great Vacation

Start by saying it’s a two hour bus ride on 50 minute like Air Canada says plus it’s a 3* not a 41/2 as Air Canada says however the resort is very clean small rooms but very clean fridge filled daily beautiful land scraping and great for anyone with mobility issues nice and flat . The food was great a good selection and the a la carted were great book your own in line and you can great four which is nice.
