The grounds were well kept. Staff were very friendly and hard working. No bugs were seen in my room. The mosquitos were a little bad at night but I brought bug spray with me. I did see them fogging the area at dusk and dawn. Beach was awesome and beautiful.... loved the pier and swimming/snorkeling with the fish.
Food was not bad either. There was always fresh fish available. Bread was yummy and not as bothersome as our Canadian preservative filled bread!
Overall wonderful experience and wo[... read more]uld go again in a heart beat!

Melia Jardines del Rey: Very good resort
It was a very nice hotel, the workers are all very friendly, the rooms are clean, there was many varieties of food, the drinks were very good. The beach was very clean. Many of them don’t speak English, which is fine but if you don’t know at least a couple of words in Spanish it won’t be very easy.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Great Resort (nice & intimate)
I stayed at this resort with my boyfriend and we had a great time! The resort and rooms were clean and spacious. It is obvious that this is a newly renovated resort ~ nice decor. Staff were friendly and very helpful. The resort was on the emptier side when we stayed here so service was great (we went mid august). There was never long lineups when it came to getting food at the buffet or ordering drinks.
I've been to Cuba a few times now and this was by far the best food I've had during my f[... read more]our trips to Cuba. The drinks are delicious and well made. In terms of the a la carte restaurants the international restaurant was our favourite of the three we went to.
The pool and pool chairs are great. The infinity pool was nice and it overlooks the ocean. It feels like you are right at the beach. The beach at this resort is a little rocky and not the best, however, the beach at the neighbouring resort was beautiful and we had full access to the beach there so when we wanted a beach day we went there. We also booked the excursion to go to Pilar Beach ~ the beach was beautiful with clear water and white sand. Very worth the trip if you love the beach!

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Top best beach in Caribbean
Our room was a Junior Suite in building six. For the most part good and comfortable with a nice garden view. PROS: Amazing beach. White soft sand with a large number of loungers and shades. Buffet was good with four grilling stations, fresh squeezed juice for breakfast. We went to the three reservation restaurants and enjoyed the Mediterranean one the best. Gardens are beautiful and are well maintained and were in bloom. Staff for the most part were happy smiling and friendly (and very hard work[... read more]ing). Pools were excellent. Bars were good but very busy. Go to the Route 66 bar after 4 pm off the main lobby. Air conditioned and not very busy. Best drinks. Entertainers and Pool activities were fun. CONS: the "bathroom" which depending on the time of day had great to no water pressure shower. Suggestion: Time your showers to off peak times or risk getting a head of shampoo with no water. "Mosquitoes" were extremely bad. Bring bug spray otherwise they WILL ruin your vacation. The spray was out in the store for the duration. Especially bad in the morning and at dusk, and to our surprise at the airport where we were swarmed in the evening. They even followed us on the plane. Nasty. The other irritant some of our fellow "guests". Rude, loud, miserable and privileged. No idea where they came from. Other Canadian travelers voiced this opinion. Worst fellow travelers I have ever met. Not the resorts fault but maybe they can add in a mandatory manners lesson with their Salsa lessons. OF NOTE, the Hola Sun representative at the hotel was effectively useless. He started the orientation 3 times with various groups as he did not identify himself and started early. He was rushed and glazed over everything. We missed out on various activities (eg. local shopping) and 1/2 hour sailing, paddleboats, kayaks because he didn't bother to mention them. The Sunwing and Air Canada reps wore uniforms and were much more professional with their clients.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Very disappointed 😡
We just got back from our vacation at Iberostar Daiquiri our experience there was terrible. I put a request for joint room's and I did not get that, the food was not at all at the standards of a 4 1/2
star hotell we had to wait in lines to get the food we got our room even not side-by-side but just cross the hallway with each other the first room that we got was two twin beds with sofa bed for three people and the other room was exactly the same we went to the bathroom we flush a toilet and [... read more] the flash did not work we did not have hot water so I went downstairs I complain they changed the room they give me a king bed with sofa bed still not just beside each other just cross each now me and my husband we had to separate to sleep with the kids because we couldn't leave two kids sleep in one room by themself without an adult supervision. We went to take the beach towels the first day they told us they did not have towels so either we take the towels that they have there which they were very old and ripped at the sides or we stay with no towels for that day so we need to wait until next day . Next day they still had no towels they told me come in about 2 hours after 2 hours I got finally the towels, two of them war ripped and very bad stained we're talking about a condition like they might be used for 20 years that's how bad the towels were. If we wanted to change the towels we had to make sure that they were towels there otherwise we had to carry our towels everywhere we go with us. The beach was okay I was expecting much better. The show at night was very poor not at all excitement there were no activities at all at the beach or anywhere ,if you don't know how to speak Spanish you would be served the last one . On Friday Saturday and Sundays they were locals they were coming to the resort and they will get better service than you that you paid more than them I've nothing against anybody but at least everybody need to be treated equally. Because you don't speak their language you don't need to be miss treat it , for me this was a very disappointed trip. Mosquitoes at night they would kill you they did not spray at all so they wouldn't have mosquitoes around the resort when I got to speak with somebody that they were on a different resort close to us they had better service they had a more activities to do they had better service in the rooms the food is kind of the same everywhere you go make sure you guys get pills for diarrhea because from the food and cups that they weren't clean at all my husband got diarrhea and we had to pay a 100 pesos to get medication. They said that they had the kids club I never saw the kids club open. Based on my experience this resort wouldn't even get 2 Star. I recommend everybody get insurance because you never know what will happen there. It was a very nice Beach called a Pilar Beach there you would get the bus which it will cost you five pesos per personwill and 2 pesos for a chair , it takes you about 20 minutes to get there but then you had to pay everything from your pocket was nothing included . The beach there was amazing so if you think to go to Cuba Cayo Coco I recommend you go to Pilar resort the food might be the same but the beach and the service will be better than Iberostar

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Great Resort!
Rooms: Were very clean and in good condition. It was nice to have an iron & ironing board in the room as well. The bathroom has a clothes line in the shower. We packed clothes pins and were able to hang up our swim wear to dry.
Activities: Lots of activities to keep you busy poolside, if that's what you like. We did not participate, but many families loved it.
Beach: BEAUTIFUL … Incredible beach! It's shallow for a great while, so great for wading or if you have little ones who a[... read more]re not great swimmers. One of the main reasons we will return to this beach was the beauty and abundance of fish.
Food: You will not starve; there is always something to eat even for the pickiest of eaters. This was the most lean I have experienced in Cuba Sadly, it was repetitive in the buffet, but the al a cartes were lovely. The country was experiencing shortages so it was understandable. NOTE: Bring your own snacks (chips, chocolates, etc.) from home.
Entertainment: The team work very hard to deliver wonderful dance shows each evening. We enjoyed them. One evening a rock group, Dharma, plays and they were very entertaining.
The NOT SO GOOD:
Check in: Unfortunately the check in time is 4PM. We arrived much earlier than that. Although we had our wristbands to enjoy the facility, we stayed in the lobby with out luggage. The 4 PM check in does not apply to everyone. I became frustrated when two tour busses behind us received the VIP treatment. They were greeted with dancers and cool beverages. They checked in and were immediately transported to their rooms with their luggage. My complaints fell on deaf ears and I was required to wait.
The Room: The room was lovely and clean. Unfortunately there was only one king sized bed. I was travelling with my daughter and did not wish to share a bed. I went to reception to ask for a room change. I was advised that the hotel was at capacity and they had no other rooms until 9 AM check out the following morning. I asked if I could have some additional sheets, and blankets so that I may sleep on the couch. They advised that I would have to speak to customer service. I spoke with customer services who immediately moved a double bed into our room. So the issue was resolved and we remained in the room for our entire stay.
Service: First time guests did not receive the same quality of service as returning guests. I felt tipping was required to receive an acceptable level of service. Once you tipped a few times, you were recognized and treated lovely. LOCALS --- It is a public beach. Locals/off duty staff had preferential treatment. They would bypass the long queue, walk to the front of the bar and receive service. Not fair, but since we were on vacation and not in a rush, it was only a minor inconvenience.
Pool: Great looking pool & the water was warm… but we had concerns with (our perception of) cleanliness. They did skim the pool frequently, so there was no debris. But we noticed the absence of the smell (and burn) of chlorine. So we were not confident that they were shocking the pool. There were a lot of people at the swim up bar drinking all day and not leaving their seat … we spent the rest of our time at the ocean.
Pool chairs --- Sadly, if you were not up before the sun... you were not getting one in the shade. People reserved chairs before 7 AM by clipping their towels to the chairs. No one would be in the pool, but all chairs were spoken for. There was no issue with getting additional chairs put around the pool, but there would be no cover from the sun. So, wake up early, claim your chairs, then head back to your room to finish sleeping before breakfast.
Mosquitos: from 6PM - 10:30 AM, they are relentless. There were small no see 'ems to larger ones that could carry a small child away. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE STRONG, QUALITY INSECT REPELLANT WITH DEET. We sprayed our clothing and bodies with (30% DEET) and still managed to get some bites. Our next trip we will invest in Thermacell or "bug clothing". Some guests were not as prepared and you could see the results. They said it was especially bad this year, but the Cayo's are on swamp land so it will always have these guys out when the temp is cooler.
OVERALL: All nit picking aside, we had a lovely holiday and enjoyed ourselves. We love the Cuban people and their incredible beaches. We will return & to this resort. Just do some research on how to minimize some of the annoyances and you'll have a great time.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Disappointed
Let me start off by saying the grounds, beach and pool were fantastic. However, accommodations, food and staff fell short. 1 of 3 beds missing bedding our entire stay along with base of bed being torn to shreds. Shower ran out of water while my wife had shampoo in hair. Buffet was extremely hot, overrun by flys and food safety sub par. Myself and Daughter still recovering from stomach issues. Air Canada rep warned us of “open†month for locals who tend to overrun buffet and take large quanti[... read more]ties of food to go... advised to go early or have little to eat. 85% of staff seemed annoyed to serve customers. (Few were fantastic) Entertainment staff seemed to be the most friendly and outgoing. Overall not experience we expected after hearing many great things about resort. We will not be returning to this resort.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Very tidy resort !
Firstly the grounds were very tidy with lots of staff taking care. The beach has lots of umbrellas with little tables to put your drinks on. Staff were very friendly and my room was much better than I expected. Great night time entertainment. My air conditioner didn’t seem to shut down when it got cool, but that’s my only complaint. Would recommend this resort, it’s a great 4 star :).

Gran Muthu Imperial: Disappointed
First want to say that all the staff and service was outstanding and very friendly and welcoming. Also the guests were nice. We met two nice couples and had a good time with them.
The pool, beach and food choices were poor. Watch out for mosquitoes. There are millions and repellent they sell at the resort is expensive and doesn’t work. We got a great deal but I wish I had spent a little more and gone back to Varadero.

Melia Costa Rey: Nice Resort but needs some improvement
Resort is new(er), has some modern elements, rooms are average and clean. Food at buffet and restaurants was on the most part bland. Definitely not 5 star quality although they always had fresh fish for lunch and dinners. Not too pleased with beverages served in very tiny plastic cups. Mixed alcoholic drinks need improvement as well. Not the greatest selection. Friendly staff.
Beach was terrific, no complaints there.

Melia Cayo Coco: Fantastic time
We have been to almost all 4+ resorts in Cuba and this one is up in the top 5. The building block that we requested was not ready when we arrived but we are seasoned travellers so we were prepared. The beach grill, and lobby bar coffee was the best. The pool area was a lot of fun. Overall we had a really great relaxing trip which is exactly what we were looking for.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Good place for vacation
We had amazing time. Staff is very friendly. Food quality in the Buffet is good. all specialized restaurant has huge opportunity for improvement. Most of the menu items were not available. we end up skipping them and going back to Buffet. Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Lovely Resort
Memories caribe is a very nice resort. If you’re looking for a relaxing trip this is the resort for you. It is not ideal for those looking to go out and party in my opinion. Moreover, the room was clean but there was no door for the toilet which is not ideal. The food is standard however toward the end of the day they tend to run out of food at the snack bar and run out of some drinks. The staff is extremely friendly! The beach and pool was lovely and all in all I would recommend this resort.

Melia Cayo Coco: Nice resort
The hotel was very nice and the grounds were lovely. Food was decent and there was a good variety available...probably the best I've had at a Cuban resort. We go for the beautiful beach and it certainly didn't disappoint. However, on the 3rd day of our vacation we were sitting on the beach and a bi-plane flew extremely close to the ground, right along the water. After the third pass we realized it was a crop duster and we were being sprayed! I completely understand that there are an abundance of[... read more] mosquitoes to be dealt with and pests are not good for tourism. But it's also not good to spray at noon when there are hundreds of tourists on the beach. This kind of thing should be done early in the morning. Also on our last day we noticed that no one was in the water. Unfortunately the storm from the previous night had stirred up some "chunks" of oil that stuck to your body and were almost impossible to remove. Otherwise it was a very relaxing vacation and if neither of those incidents had happened, it would have been perfect.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Great geataway!
The hotel was super clean and beautiful. The staff we’re incredibly friendly and genuinely helpful!. And the food was quite enjoyable. The staff are always on and making sure everyone was having a good time. Ensuring that there was something to do and some sort of entertainment.
