This resort was great! Check in was at 3pm so we recommend bringing summer clothes while you wait if you arrive early and coming from a colder place. Check in was smooth with the staff there and drinks were provided right away! You also get help with luggage after the room is available but we just went by ourselves.
Rooms were cleaned every day but you should leave the room tag outside if they aren’t cleaning it at their usual time; we had asked them to come back later every day since they c[... read more]ame around 8:30am every day while we were getting ready for the day. Linens are new every 3 days so keep that in mind but they’ll make the bed still. Mini fridge and coffee is restocked every day; they provide pop, beer and water in the fridge. Room service is available from 11am-10pm for free and after then is a charge. Bathroom supplies are restocked if you take or use them as well. Bathroom was clean but our shower had a small leak which didn’t bother us. There was a free safe to use.
The bars were quick and the bartenders are all super friendly and hilarious. Shoutout to Cocktail Captain and Francisco! The pools are great, there’s one that’s chill and the other with activities and music every day. The bridge is being rebuilt but luckily we got to walk across it on our first day. The beach was decent, the ocean water was much warmer than the pools but a bit of seaweed build up on the shore and some smell but not unbearable. The ocean wasn’t super popular to swim in given the wind and yellow/red flags most days but we still went in. Just be aware that red flags may mean current conditions and life forms like jellyfish that have stung people during our time there. But the beach has a lot of options to sit, from tree huts to hammocks to being right in the sun by the walking deck (not by the shore) and under sun covers which ARE in front of the shore. Jet ski rentals were easy to book and it was super fun! There were free water activities you could book as well or extra ones but we didn’t do anything besides paid for jet skis.
Lots of activities every day and there’s a schedule on their app but the entertainment/blue team also informs us as they walk around and get to know you and there’s a schedule board by the Mexican restaurant as well. The entertainment team are incredible at their jobs. Shoutout to Oswyn, Viri, Moses, and Kendall! We played a ton of beach and pool volleyball, aquafit/aqua aerobics, challenges and games, artsy activities, etc. every day!
The food is pretty good! We aren’t picky people but there’s variety and restaurant options. The hibachi restaurant was the only one you had to book a reservation for and we’d recommend going around 5:30pm to stand in line before they open at 5:45pm. They’re closed Wednesdays. The other restaurants are great though, and the buffet has different food themed nights throughout the week but pretty standard during breakfast and lunch. There’s also Mike’s Cafe which is open most of the time with great cafe/snack options which was nice for our early excursion day and our last day getting ready for our check out and chiller nights/days. There’s also an ice cream place right by the pools open every day.
The nightlife didn’t really exist in terms of partying as the crowd wasn’t as young as we were for the first few days. Highly recommend making some friends there and inviting them to night events which we ended up doing which made it a bit better. They also have pool/8 ball, ping pong and air hockey available to play.
There’s 2 resorts close to ours on both sides and both have access to our shoreline and deck and have kids/families so keep that in mind if you’re looking for a full on adults only. They don’t really access the resort itself or anything though. The resort itself is on the small-mid size resort but we loved it because we didn’t have to walk too far to reach food and bar options and our room.
Overall, we loved it.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Will definitely be back!
A bit overdue, but wanted to leave a full review of this resort :) For context, we're a couple in early 40s with kids and this was our first time visiting SK or any Bahia Principe resort for that matter :)
Overall, we had an amazing time and would definitely be back!
The room: I know some have said that the rooms were "dated". Honestly, I this this is the style of the decor for this place. I'd consider myself a person who likes luxury, cleanliness and comfort. Not super picky, but getting [... read more]a good sleep and having a clean room is more important than anything else. We had the penthouse suite. The room was very spacious, and cleaned well daily. We did not see any tarantulas or scorpions in the room, but outside of the room we saw a sizeable scorpion on the stairs going up, lots of gekkos or lizards of some sort, a HUGE bug which we're still debating if it was a cockroach, and some cool frogs. Nothing too alarming. I'm a picky sleeper with insomnia so please take this with a grain of salt... We have a foam mattress at home so we can't feel each other move around, however the beds here, you can absolutely feel the other person getting in and out of bed and tossing and turning. The pillows were very small... resembling couch cushions and they were very stiff. We asked for down pillows and memory foam, and was better, but still not the most comfortable sleep. The AC unit is also found right above one side of the bed. My partner slept closer to the unit and it was quite cold and apparently "dry" feeling. We left a tip for the cleaner every day and also the mini fridge stock person. Great service every day. Water pressure was a bit of an issue. We couldn't get the hot tub filled quite what we wanted. It was dribbling, but it rained most the time we were there so we didn't really use it. Some guests complained about electricity issues in their room, so on par, we were good with weaker water pressure :)
On food: all the buffets were pretty much on par. We were never really the first do get there, so I think we missed the good seafood on the Friday. Also keep in mind that neither my partner or myself are dessert people so we didn't try any of the desserts at the restaurants. I'd say that my favorite buffet would be Akumal. But honestly, they're all quite comparable. Aluxe was decent, I really liked their appy's... we tried them all, service was also great. I generally like my steak really rare, and asked for rare. The texture was very different than what I'm used to. It was more of a raw salmon texture than a beefy texture, less chewing required? Our favorite restaurant, by far, was the brazillian steakhouse. I was afraid the steak would be overly salty and dry/overcooked. My gosh... it was FANTASTIC. The seafood restaurant on (i think) Coba was also very great! We also tried a few other restaurants, but those two were our favorite. We accidentally were late to one of our resos by 15 mins, and were seated without issues.
It wasn't the easiest task to find chairs in the shade where the entertainment was happening by the beach resorts but we managed, and def WAY better than other AI resorts we've been to.
On drinks: it's been a while since I've visited Mexico, but i remembered they had the best drinks b/c they used better alcohol and fresh juices. Unfortunately like most AI resorts, they no longer have fresher juices at the bars. I was getting a bit tired of drinking pina coladas the whole time, and I took a pic of the list of drinks people were saying were delicious and many bartenders had no idea what I was asking for. The bar tender at the lobby bar in SK, Randi was fantastic - he has a passion for making delicious drinks and always surprised me. Sadly I only found him 2-3 days before leaving :(
Entertainment was good for a resort that is a bit quieter at night. Shows daily from 9-10. They were good. My favorite was the silent disco. First time experiencing it, and was definitely a lot of fun!
The service here and I might mention, ALL of the resorts were fantastic. Zero complaints!
The trolly rides to the other resorts came frequently enough. I likely wouldn't recommend drinking overboard and then heading back b/c it can be quite bumpy LOL, but we pretty much just went for dinner and headed back to SK after.
We would be back in a heartbeat! Was a nice relaxing vacation. Sadly more rain than sun, but no fault of the resort! It was a fantastic time regardless!
Such a phenomenal resort. Extremely well kept and clean. Food and entertainment were all amazing!!
Staff was very friendly and remembered our names. We were a party of 10!!
we expected a nice vacation but ended up haveing a fantastic vacation! Will definitely go back

Bahia Principe Explore Tulum: Lush resort!
The grounds at Bahia Principe Grand Tulum were stunning, lush, and very well maintained. Food was very plentiful at the buffet. Only drawback was it was so hot in there due to the open nature of the restaurant. All the restaurants we visited were very good, we especially enjoyed the Mikado Tepanyaki and Tequila! Staff was amazingly friendly and hard working. Pool activities were super fun. My favourite was Victor the water aerobics instructor, so much fun! The beach was lovely but rocky in some [... read more]spots for swimming, had to go towards the Akumal for better sandy beach. Rooms were just average and showed their age in comparison to the rest of the resort. Overall, it was a fun time with good food, plentiful drinks and lots of walking!

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Great Resort!
The hotel and grounds were very well kept. Very clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. Beach was beautiful and pool area very nice with easy access to food, bar, washrooms from both beach and pool. Nightly shows were great. The lobby and lobby bar was very quiet all the time. A little entertainment in the lobby bar in the evenings would have been a nice touch for those who didn’t want to watch the shows.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Great resort
We spent a family vacation with our 3 y.o. daughter in August 2024. We loved the resort! The territory is huge, and you can still use the amenities of other parts of this Bahia Principe resort while staying in one of them. The entertainment team did a wonderful job, and we loved the evening shows. The restaurants were amazing! The food was always tasty, and the service was very decent. We also liked that the staff does their job really well no matter whether you're giving them tips or no, which [... read more]makes you want to tip them. However, the beach is not great along the whole shore occupied by the hotel - the part near Tulum is better. Also, the rooms in Tulum have undergone pretty recent renovations; however, in Akumal they are pretty large and are kept clean and well-maintained.

Barcelo Maya Palace: Amazing Resort!
We enjoyed our stay at the resort. The rooms are neat and clean and pretty big and comfortable. This resort is right on the beach which is an added advantage. The food is delicious and activities in the resort are also plenty. We found each and every staff to be friendly and nice. In short had a great family vacation at this resort and would recommend this resort to others as well.

Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun: Good kid-friendly resort, for the pools not the beach
Generally the hotel was very clean, modern and had many amenities. The check in process was a bit disorganized and frustrating, but the app is great. The steakhouse and Agave had amazing food. Overall good food. Our young kids (almost 2 and 5) did not make enough use of the waterpark as it is better suited to older kids. However they loved the kids club, the pool and the nightly shows.
The beach however is rarely in use. It does have seaweed and is murky but we would have used it and playe[... read more]d in the sand more. No one talks about it and there are no signs but we learned from past reviews and the bartender that this is due to crocodiles nearby. Thankfully we never encountered any but it made us fearful of spending much time at the beach. This is the only reason I may not go back to this location. Even though the Royalton overall was a good resort.
If you don’t care for the beach at all, then it’s worth the visit.

Barcelo Maya Palace: Barcelo Maya Palace. Great resort
This hotel was clean and very well maintained and appointed. The beach views were endless. The beach was one of the nicest beaches I have seen with sandy bottom and no seaweed. The rooms were clean and spacious with all amenities. The food was the best if any all inclusive I’ve stayed at. The staff were friendly also especially Giselle and Garson at the frog pool! The bowling g mini putt pickleball and beach volleyball added to the fun experience. The only thing missing h was food trucks or a be[... read more]ach grill that offered an easy snack for lunch versus getting dressed and going to buffet. We had a great time!!

Planet Hollywood Cancun by Royalton: Perfect for Everyone!
We had an incredible time at Planet Hollywood. As a large family group of 10 there was something for everyone to do. Our swim out suite was amazing and our vacation wouldn't have been as incredible had it not been for our butlers Roy and Oscar. They went above and beyond! They even surprised my son with a bucket of chocolate milk and m&Ms! We have been to many all inclusive resorts but all the staff here were so friendly and welcoming! The beach is absolutely beautiful and there are many pools t[... read more]o enjoy. My hubby planned a lovely romantic dinner on the beach with the help of our butlers and we also did the fast drivers experience, which was fun!
There were 2 minor cons. I did feel that there were a number of experiences that required additional expenses. So if someone is looking for absolutely everything to be included that won't be the case. I also didn't like being roped into a 90 minute presentation for their Prime Vacation club. We were offered a number of gifts to simply attend but we did feel somewhat pressured. It wasn't the best way to spend the first day of our vacation.
But generally we had a great time!

Barcelo Maya Palace: Really Great Resort
Amazing beach and clear water for snorkeling right on the resort! Great service all around with the dining, cleaning of rooms and bar service. The rooms are great - we went premium which I would definitely recommend! The only challenge was getting reservations for a large group of 18 people at the restaurants.

Royalton CHIC Cancun: 7 days of Paradise
My time at the Royalton CHIC Cancun was truly exceptional—a memorable experience that exceeded my expectations. I was thoroughly impressed by every aspect of the resort. The hotel’s layout and design, the spaciousness of the rooms, the diverse culinary offerings from the various restaurants, the exemplary customer service, housekeeping, and breathtaking beach views all contributed to an outstanding stay.
I’ve had the privilege of visiting three other Royalton properties: CHIC in Punta Cana, R[... read more]oyalton Hideaway in Montego Bay, and Royalton in Cuba. However, Royalton CHIC Cancun stands out as the best among them.
When booking, I sought a resort close to the airport that offered a vibrant atmosphere with opportunities for relaxation without being far from the action. Royalton CHIC Cancun perfectly met these criteria. Thank you, Royalton, for such a wonderful experience.
One suggestion that would have further enhanced my stay is the room service menu, particularly for lunch and dinner. It would be great to have the option to order from one of the resort’s restaurants or perhaps the buffet. While I wouldn’t expect the full menu, offering one or two items from a selected restaurant each day would be a significant enhancement.
Thank you, Royalton.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Meh-xico Vacation
The best part of this hotel was the staff, aside from one who checked us in and set us up for a "lunch" at the Royal Elite part of the hotel, which is for returning members only (we had purchased the select club adults only package). We were told it was just a chance to see what it was like and would be 90 minutes tops. I was also told that this was the only part of the hotel which had a swim up bar (later found out this wasn't true,
the family pool does as well). We meet him the next day and[... read more] he introduces us to a man who would take us around. Well, this lunch (we had tacos at El Nido, a restaurant we already had access to) turned into a sales pitch. We were brought over to the Royal Elite side of the hotel and shown a model suite. All the while being told that our side of the hotel served bad alcohol that would give us a hangover, and commenting on how much nicer this model room was compared to ours (this is the second day of our 7 day stay). More sales stuff about how online sites that offer packages purchase a bunch of rooms and sell them, while he could get us a deal for $1 a night for the room, we just have to book flights. More sales pitch that confused us, I started thinking it was for a timeshare (something about not being able to book certain dates??). Then off to his office where he shows us pictures of different Sandos resorts around the world. At this point we are not biting, so he brings in his boss. Finally, after 2+ hours (when it was supposed to be 90 minutes total), I explain we are not interested and the good reasons why. We are promptly ushered out. Lame.
On top of all this, the select club package is supposed to give you priority seating and reservations for the restaurants and buffets. Many times we waited in line for the main buffet place. The food is ok but lacking in many ways. Too many items were overcooked, dry and bland. We saw one of the made-to-order cooks at the main buffet using the same tongs to touch raw meat and chicken as to serve the cooked meats. I didn't even bother trying anything from that station after that.
Halfway through our stay, the 24 hour room service stopped. We were told we had to go to the El Nido restaurant and order from there off a different, smaller menu, which no longer served any breakfast items.
The shower leaked all over the floor due to there being a gap at the bottom of the door, and we had some kind of leak in the toilet closet.
The pros (there were some), are the staff was extremely friendly and attentive; there were all kinds of animals around (coati, raccoons, a peacock, turtles and monkeys); there are on-site ruins (!!!), and the foam party.

Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: Amazing Resort
The accommodations were modern and clean, the grounds well laid out and everything we needed was readily available. The staff were great but there were several standouts. The breakfast staff, Goddy and Abraham in the Hideaway dining room were attentive, pleasant and their warm smiles started our day off right. Edgar at the omelet station is fantastic as well, make sure you get an omelet from him before you leave, he made ours just right every day. Sunrise yoga with Eddie and Astrid was anoth[... read more]er of our vacation highlights, we were led through calm yet challenging sessions with an amazing view each morning. If you're staying at The Hideaway make sure you dine at The Dorado and ask for Carlos to wait on you, what a gentleman and professional.
We are planning on returning as soon as we can, this resort checked all the boxes for us and it's only a 15 minute trip from the airport!
