Melia las Americas is a beautiful hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. From the moment we arrived we felt the staff were attentive and did the best they could to make our stay enjoyable.
The surrounding pools and lounge areas are totally relaxing, and there is a variety of places to eat during the day from buffet to snack bars and restaurant area.
We will definitely return to Melia las Americas

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Good resort
The resort was ok the beach amazing the rooms good and big The beds and pillow very comfortable.
The food was ok cuban standers.
Sometimes they were just missing somethings. They only had hamburger buns the first day I was there .they only had fries in the snack bar ,two days there is no sliced bread for breakfast in the morning ,and only my last day I saw yogurts. The food was very plain, and the food was not labelled so sometimes you don’t know what it was.
The service it was grea[... read more]t.
It’s a beautiful resort But it needs some work.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Great getaway
The grounds at the hotel were very well kept and maintained. Very clean inside and out. We really enjoyed our al la cartel meals. The Japanese was entertaining and the French was very tasty.
The main buffet got a little boring, but we always found something. The beach and pool area was well maintained and never crowded.
Our room was getting dated and our building outside lights at night were never repaired. It was very dark at night and I mentioned this problem as a safety concern 3 times. Not[... read more] a big deal as we always bring a flashlight.
I would go back to this resort, but only for the right price.

Sol Palmeras: Awesome week
The resort was wonderful and met all our expectations...a four star. The staff were 5 star!!
The standard room was okay.
.beds were a bit hard. The bungalows close to pool area looked nice. Food was excellent for Cuba with lots of variety and attention to food safety. Beach beautiful. Resort had shuttle to shopping plaza. 15 minutes by bus to Varadero.
Only complaint was buffet dinner was very noisy...could do outdoor dining for breakfast and lunch.
Would recommend.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Great vacation
My husband and I stayed at the Melia Jardines del Rey from February 3 to 10. When we were choosing our hotel we were a bit leery about the size of this one. It has over 1,000 rooms and our guide told us it is the largest Melia property in the world. But we knew the Flamenco beach was fantastic, having stayed at two neighbouring hotels the last three years, so we thought we’d give it a try.
Arrival and check-in:
The hotel is about 15—20 minutes from the airport and because there were quit[... read more]e a few of us going to this hotel we went there directly without having to drop off passengers at other resorts. We flew with Air Canada and arrived at the hotel around 10 p.m. There were two other buses expected around the same time so the hotel staff took us to a conference room and handled our check-in there instead of having us line up at the reception desk. They also brought Cuban CUCs so we could exchange our money right there. We were then driven to our rooms by one of the many shuttles that move across the property regularly.
Rooms:
We were given a room on the second floor in Bungalow #9. The room was one of the nicest we’ve had in our 16 trips to Cuba. It was spacious, clean and comfortable. The bathroom was great. Large shower, lots of hot water and great water pressure. The mini fridge was restocked every day. The AC worked well without fail.
Beach:
The Flamenco beach is magnificent. A few years ago the three hotels on that strip enlarged the beach substantially allowing for more beach chairs and palapas. Chairs were available no matter what time of the day you came to the beach. However, as is the case at most resorts, if you want to secure a spot with shade you need to stake your claim by 7:30 a.m. at the latest. We’re used to doing this and have no problem getting up early to ensure a great day in an ideal spot. The water was crystal clear and the sand was great. There were some rocks so water shoes are a good idea.
Pools:
We never use the pools when in Cuba because we are there for the beach. But from what we saw the pools were lovely and well maintained. There was also a children’s pool and a large children’s area complete with slides, swings and a huge inflatable bouncing/climbing area.
Food and drink:
I often read complaints from visitors to Cuba about the quality of the food. We don’t set our expectations too high and as a result we are rarely disappointed. The resort has two buffets that serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. If I have one negative comment about this resort it was the lack of variety in the buffet the first few days we were there. Even the juice was watered down which we found odd. I suspect that they had an issue with supply, because things improved slightly while we were there. We never ate lunch at the buffet because there is an excellent smaller buffet right on the beach that had a good selection of lunch options. We made reservations at three a la carte restaurants – Cuban, Asian and Mexican – and all three were excellent. The food was good as was the service. There is also a 24 hour snack bar on site that services the basics – sandwiches, burgers, salads and the like. Their burgers were great.
Entertainment:
There was usually some kind of musical entertainment in the lobby in the evening – singers, violinists, etc. But because the lobby is so huge, the entertainment is really only enjoyed by guests who can get a seat close to the performance area. In the a la carte restaurants we enjoyed some live Cuban music performed by musicians who moved through the restaurants. We tend to be early to bed and early to rise people so we rarely attend the large evening shows in the theater. But we did go for the Cuban Night and it was well worth it. The show was professionally done.
Resort layout and ambience:
Despite its size, the resort is actually more compact than we expected. Everything was within a reasonable walking distance – 5 to 10 minutes at most. They also have staff driving the grounds in shuttles and offering lifts to anyone who wants one, which is a nice touch. Where we noticed a bit of a difference from previous trips to other resorts was that this resort seemed a bit “sterileâ€. Let me explain what I mean by that. The resort lacked ambience. There didn’t seem to be a central core to the resort where people would gravitate to. At smaller resorts we would usually find ourselves sitting next to the same people and this made for pleasant conversations over a drink. We have made friends this way in the past who we still keep in touch with. We didn’t find that here. What was interesting about this was that other guests seemed to be seeking ambience as well. There wasn’t a person we passed at any time of the day who didn’t smile and say Hello, Bonjour or Hola. This was new to us and we found it lovely and refreshing.
The staff:
The staff at this resort was always a pleasure to deal with. They genuinely wanted their guests to have a great experience. We are always grateful and generous with tips and/or gifts when we see someone going beyond the call of duty. The Cuban people are one of the main reasons we are drawn back to their beautiful country. We look forward to our next trip.

Melia Las Antillas: Beautiful Resort although the rooms need updating
We, my sister and I just returned from a week at the Melia Las Antaillas. We have both been to Cuba 20+ times are we are very familiar with what to expect in Cuba. We Love Cuba!
The property is absolutely beautiful and the staff for the most part are amazing.
First the cons....
A couple of issues; first when we arrived my sister was feeling very ill and we asked for a room sooner than 3:00 (we arrived at 12:00 noon). Apparently, that was impossible which is difficult to believe based on[... read more] the size of the resort and the number of people we saw there.
There are no coffee makers in the rooms as advertised. There is an electric kettle, that's it. We were very disappointed as you have to go to the main lobby anytime before 9:00 am to get coffee which can be a bit of a hike. they could easily set up a coffee station in the pool restaurant as staff are there long before nine setting up.
Also Sunwing tell you the bus ride is 25 minutes when in fact it took us an hour and forty minutes to actually get to the hotel. We had to stop at every downtown hotel first. We opted not to go to Cayo Santa Maria this time because of the bus ride. We were very surprised and disappointed to discover the length of time you spend on the bus is actually longer than the Cayo Santa Maria trip. We took a cab to the airport on the way back and yes, we were there in 35 minutes. When I mentioned this to the Sunwing rep she got quite defensive saying, well, we have 65 resorts on Varadero. I understand this I was just pointing out that the information in their package was incorrect.
The first room we were assigned had a very strong chemical odour. We emailed in advance of our arrival, both the resort and the Melia head office to express our concerns about cigarette and other odours in the room as my sister is very sensitive. We were promised this would be taken into consideration and we would be taken care of. This was not the case.
I was shown three other rooms and all of them had the same strong chemical odour. I spoke with several other people who experienced the same issues and moved rooms several times before they found one they could tolerate. We wound up staying in the first room with the air on full blast to dissipate the smell.the patio door was almost impossible to open and close.
The rooms need some updating, the lighting in the sink area is dim at best, the tub is rusty and the grout needs replacing. All that being said we didn't let any of these issues ruin our vacation. I understand they are upgrading the rooms but none of the three I looked at were upgraded. A new health bar was completely constructed and opened while we were there but personally, I think the rooms should be upgraded first before adding additional venues.
We tried the specialty restaurants and only had an issue with one, Don Peperone. At Don Peperone the sparkling wine is an extra charge even though it is free everywhere else on the property including at the buffet! The service was beyond slow and we wound up leaving after 20 minutes without even being offered a glass of wine.
I take exception to the lobster being an extra charge everywhere on this resort as many of the 4 and 5 star resorts we have stayed at in Cuba include lobster at no additional charge! $20.00 Canadian no less.
The Pros...
The beautiful property. The amazing staff. The best beach in Cuba. Great food. Great drinks. Direct Flight.Super Clean. Beautiful weather, etc.
Would we go back. If you asked us on the first day the answer would have been no. But, having spent the week we have changed our opinion and would definitely go back. Next time we will pack a coffee maker and coffee and we will take a cab from and to the airport!

Melia Cayo Coco: Great Place
The resort was really good. We found the staff very friendly and helpful. Food was good. The only thing about the food was there needed to be more of a verity between day to day. Different days. different array of food. Yes they had a theme food section each day but it was very small and found not enough to choose from, everything else was the same as the day before and even the same as lunch. But, what we had was good, After eating at the specialty restaurant which were good, you need to eat at[... read more] the buffet and verity would have been good. Rooms were clean but you can tell they are old and needed to be updated. Ceramic floor and bathroom tiles were chipped. Bathroom tub and tiles needed to be re-grouted, grout was chipped and dirty looking. Some walls needed to be repaired and painted was a must, but like I said it was clean. strangely enough the beds were so hard but we had the best sleep, go figure. When we booked we asked our trip central agent, Manuela to put us on the second floor but Melia did not do that, they would do it they said, but we would have to wait longer for the room and it would be much further away, so we felt that they really didn't want to do that and stayed where we were placed. The grounds, pool and beach were wonderful. The only thing there we had to laugh at the signs posted about not reserving loungers as everyone did. They would throw their towels down and left for the day. Around the pool more umbrellas was needed, but area around beach and pool were very clean and nicely keep. Again I can't say enough about the staff, everyone you passed had a hello and a smile they were so NICE! Yes we would go back there and did enjoy ourselves very much!

Sol Cayo Santa Maria: Horrible
This Trip was my husband and my first trip by ourselves. We got to the resort the room was not ready but that was okay with us we could go to the beach or pool until ready. When we had got the room there was the Bathroom window was a floor to ceiling with a white thin shower curtain that didn’t cover the window at the sides and you could see in when going to the bathroom or showering so showering needed to be in the night with the light out. The porch and pathways had no lights to room and fea[... read more]r of tripping on the stairs. Bathings in the resort either had no toilet paper or smelled or urine. They had no pool towels for 3 days after we got there. In the mornings they had no coffee at the resort many times ran out of beer and liquor during the day (there was water luckily but even that was running low) Room keys had to always be reset in order to get in the room. The staff was great but not knowledgeable about much. The food was the same and not too good. We ended up spending days at the Melia and only sleeping at Sol. This is an all inclusive resort that did not have sail boats and snorkeling as they didn’t pay the contract. The resort needs a major update. Not a enjoyable trip also hola sun reps were never there to sign up for the excursions(waiting for 3 hours after the time they stated they would be there and no show day after day. We didn’t bring children and I’m glad we didn’t there was a nude beach right beside us and absolutely nothing for kids to do. Same Cuban music over and over.
I do not recommend this resort to anyone we are not picky at rooms or resorts but this was a total waste of money. Pictures are definitely from years ago.

Melia Las Americas: Relaxing vacation
The Melia Las Americas is a beautiful resort with an amazing beach and lots of palapas and pool areas to choose from. The food was good and there was plenty to choose from at the buffet and a la cartes. The resort caters to an older crowd and is fairly quiet by 1030 or so but after a long day in the sun and enjoying the Cuban rum that was fine with us! The rooms we had in the main hotel were dated but clean. We will definately be back!

Sol Cayo Coco: Small Resort with Ambience
A nice resort with large clean rooms. An easy walk to the beach, pools, and buffet. The food was typical. Because the resort is small there were never line ups at the buffet and you didn't have to wait to find chairs at the beach. The only complaint I have is that there is a mini fridge in each room, but they did not supply beer or soft drinks once.
When we asked about it we were told we would have to pay extra. That's a first for me. The room itself was more than adequate with hot showers, la[... read more]rge balcony looking over the ocean and good maid service.
We found the bar service inconsistent. Sometimes we had to wait quite a while to get served.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Great winter getaway destination!
My wife and I had an amazing time last week in Cuba at this resort. The beach was among the best I have seen and I have been to Mexico, Bahamas, Turks, Greece and Forida. The room was great. Melia Las Antillas: Big Disappointment
Would not recommend this hotel. Food was good and the beach was nice. Service wasn’t good. Took about half an hour in the lobby bar to get a drink at any given time. Room air conditioning, fridge, and hair dryer all did not work upon arrival. Expected a much better room for price paid. Service in the dining areas was good and the cleaning lady did an excellent job. Only allowed one water bottle per day between two people. Hotel in need of updates.

Melia Las Antillas: Disappointed
I was greatly disappointed in this resort. On first sight our room needed repainting as rust was on the ceiling. It had a metal piece as you walk in. Tub was chipped. Took two days to get them to turn on air conditioning. Fridge didn’t work till 2nd day. Hair dryer never worked. Ceiling in gym was leaking and had marks from previous leaking. Gym equipment was old and needed upgrading. Were not allowed extra water than 1 bottle a day for two people. Also on day we left at 6 pm was not allowed a[... read more]ny water. Had to sneak it at the bar. The grounds were fairly maintained. The shark pond was stagnant. The pool was well maintained. Bars were run well but wait to get served in main building was at least 1/2 hr. For the advertising and what I received were two different things. I expected concierge but had to pay for it. Expected ocean view. Got a roof view. Expected room service. Oh no that wasn’t for us. I feel I paid way too much for what I got. The cleaner was wonderful and cleaned exceptionally well.
