Catalonia Royal Tulum: Great vacation spot

We stayed at the Royal Catalonia Tulum for 10 days. It was a great vacation spot. We had a redeye flight and arrived before noon. The hotel gave us full access to the property and one of our rooms that was ready right away. You can’t talk about this resort without talking about the staff. They are friendly, welcoming and happy to see you. Quesabel in La Palapa is friendly, efficient and a pure joy to interact with. She made us feel special every single day. Other favourites were Car [... read more]los in La Palapa, Luis in Adelita, and Anna at the Terrace. Antonio looked after our room and went out of his way to get us new towels mid day. The grounds are beautiful with lots of wildlife. Iguanas, geckos and lots of coatis was the norm. I loved it! They have a beautiful wooden walkway through the mangroves that is lit up at night. Beautiful! There is lots of beach to walk on with more secluded areas just a short distance from the resort. You can walk quite a ways and only see a few other people from the resort. The beach and water are stunning. There is good snorkelling right off the resort beach and in the coves at either end of the beach. The water was fairly calm and the waves were not an issue. The resort was at 90% occupancy and never felt crowded. The pools are nice and its quite easy to find private space if you want. If it rains, there are not a lot of public areas to escape to. Luckily for us, rain was not an issue. It’s a smaller resort and we quite loved it. Our favourite restaurants were La Palapa (main restaurant for breakfast and lunch), Adelita (Mexican) and the Terrace (tapas). We found the food in La Palapa good, and there was enough variety we did not tire of it. The Terrace is outside and located next to a grotto. It’s beyond lovely. We tried all of the restaurants and I wouldn’t go back to the others. We appreciated the free water offerings and took advantage of the catamaran. It was great fun!

Grand Palladium Kantenah: Great Time!

Employees are terrific. Groundsand rooms are very clean. We had a couple problems with AC and sliding door and they were addressed in a couple hours. Food is very good, lots to chose from.Good snorkling out front. Who designed the pool? Its 6.5' deep in 90%. You cant hang out anywhere other than perimeter or play water games with the kids. Remember folks, take some tip money. These wonderful peopl work very hard for almost nothing. A few dollars goes a long way to help them and their families.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Best value on the Mayan Riviera

I've vacationed at this resort 8 times and after 25 years the Coba is still a quality property. Grounds/shrubbery are well taken care of. The buffet and a la carte restaurants are very good. We enjoyed the new Indian restaurant, Thall. We did however, miss the towel exchange hut at the "quiet" pool. It can be a bit of a hike to the "party" pool to get or exchange a towel. Food was cold and poor quality. Party pool snack bar was very good. Coba is very conscientious of cleanliness in public areas and rooms. Public washrooms are well maintained. Some negatives are drive from airport (1 1/2 hrs), no longer access to Telum amenities (except A la carte restuarants). These negatives would not stop us from returning to Coba.

Catalonia Royal Tulum: Excellent vacation spot

Just returned from a 10 day stay at Royal Catalonia Tulum. We’ve travelled a lot and this was one of the best values we experienced so far. Beach was outstanding: white sand, clear weed free water. Few rocks. Lots of chairs on the beach. Service was excellent. Happy people that want to keep you happy Pool was large. Some activity around pool but not overbearing. Could probably add a bit more variety in day to day activities though Rooms were nicely appointed. Quiet. Tv channel selection  [... read more]was decent Food was “ok”. Buffet for breakfast and lunch was good. Needs more variety from one day to the next though. The themed restaurants were promising but have a way to go. Portions small but you could ask for more. Online reservation/menu system was excellent. Night life was a bit of a let down. All activities started at 9:45 and were lacklustre. We still were happy with each day we experienced. The weather was outstanding with beautiful sun rise and sunsets! Will definitely return WestJet service was impressive, especially on the way down with the larger plane. Not so much on the way home although luggage was waiting for us when we got through the paperwork. The rise from the airport is a bit long but it’s worth the drive All in all, a great vacation.

Grand Palladium Kantenah: Love the resort! Came for a third time.

Loved all amenities, grounds, restaurants, pool and beach areas are stunning. Fabulous staff and great evening entertainment! Staff super friendly and helpful and always smiling. Big enough resort for all tastes and preferences to find something they could enjoy.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Good hotel

This was a third time in this hotel and a lot changed.The rooms need upgrading the air conditioner is working on the same temperature all the time.You cannot control the temperature. We did have somebody coming to fix it but the same problem.We had a one blanket in the room on our arrival during the night we were freezing. The front door lock did not work the same for the balcony door.The internet is not secured by password ,you have to have a VPN. When I did complain about he internet the per [... read more]son at the desk told me it is because of clouds.The hotel is catering to privileged client .The food is excellent the grounds are kept really well.The beach is ok to much weeds and rocks going to the water you need shoes.Still ver y nice resort for the family. I hope they will learn from the complains .Not a 5 star like they advertise.I would give give them 3 till they improve.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Relaxing Tropical Vacation

We are just back from our vacation week at Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal in Riviera Maya. It was a relaxing and refreshing week we all needed badly after a long time of pandemic and sad winters. PROS. We were amazed by the wildlife in the resort: pelicans hunting right at the beach, fish, nasuas, and many birds and lizards. We also visited seafood and French cuisine restaurants, and both had interesting choices. All resort areas, including the pool, spa, and gym are maintained well and clean. The gym is small, but we found enough ways to have a good workout. The staff is also offering Zumba. I was amazed by the landscaping design - all the greenery is gorgeous and well-maintained. The room we got was spacious, with a beautiful ocean view, with a king-size bed. And our teen got a couch bed (he did not complain). CONS. The bathroom needs some renovations. We also ran out of bath gel on the 2nd day, and could not get the refill, the cleaning lady permanently forgot to refill it, even after we left notes for her, supported by some more material hints. We had to use shampoo instead, which is okay for a scout camp, not a 5-star hotel. They offer Zumba classes with very loud music not only in the pool but also at the beach, right in the water, where they have the remains of the coral reef. I believe it is not good for the wildlife, and not good for the people who want to relax at the beach and enjoy the natural environment.

Grand Sunset Princess: Fantastic Resort

This resort is very clean, has friendly staff and so many activities for the whole family. This is our 3rd time and we would go again in a heartbeat. Beautiful grounds, so many pools and a large beach to enjoy.

Allegro Playacar: wow - a really nice resort with so much potential, but what happened?

great layout everything close by amazing beach close to town food was average but filling and tasty - still put on some pounds while there ( stay with the buffets) - Asian food very disappointing. alcoholic beverages flowing but the quality of alcohol left wanting- perfect place for adults, or families or friends - we had a blast the people phenomenal - could smile even when they knew we were not satisfied BUT: Maintenance of property - the infrastructure must be aging - externall [... read more]y beautiful, no complaints of the landscaping, grounds, beaches, pool areas etc, updated rooms, but the mechanics - no A/C for many of us until a few days in (worked really well then), hot water and water pressure issues and the women's bathroom in the front lobby should be the biggest embarrassment to the hotel - did not work when we arrivedand did not work when we left. PLEASE, Allegro, make us all proud and get these things fixed (even if it is just the washroom) because otherwise it is the perfect hotel. spoiler alert: no matter what, the trip was loved by all..........................

Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya: Beautiful resort!

The property is spacious and spectacular. Excellent walkways and boardwalks, all well maintained. Shuttles appeared regularly and seemed to be quick - we only used it once during our walk to dinner as it started raining heavily. We love to walk and enjoyed every minute of that. The pools were fresh and super clean. The poolside food trucks delivered delicious Mexican foods all afternoon. The main pool was quite busy but it always seemed there were a few vacant lounges. It was too loud for us [... read more] so we enjoyed the Golden pool - lazy river pool - where the music was quiet jazz. Delicious drinks and food from the golden bar. Prompt friendly service everywhere. Beautiful sand on the beach, but either end of the resort was rocky. Beach walking seemed to go on well down the beach but we didn’t need to venture far. All restaurants provide excellent food, all bars provide excellent drinks - just ask for higher end alcohol or they will default to the cheap stuff. Used room service twice for breakfast - timely but the coffee is dicey. Even the Sisal coffee shop didn’t impress, but the do have a huge assortment of choices. The silver king room was fresh and nicely cleaned everyday - always a slight Caribbean musty smell even though recently renovated. Beautiful big balcony in building 2, but we faced into the resort. Green and jungly view, but the afternoon music from the main pool was offensive enough that we didn’t enjoy sitting out, so we kept to the golden pool or the beach. This resort is an easy half hour direct from the airport. The air transat shuttle was the only downside as we arrived at the shuttle location at 9:15 but between waiting for the shuttle and dropping others off first, we didn’t check in at our hotel til 11:15. All dining tables were well spaced, entrance signs at all restaurants warned to keep space between people, and some of the staff wore masks. All buildings are very open air and it was breezy so we were not concerned about covidguildines.

Catalonia Royal Tulum: A fabulous getaway to the Mayan Riviera!

This smaller resort offers a more intimate option for a relaxing beach holiday. Stunning beaches, comfortable accommodation, tasty Mexican food and amazing staff are some of the highlights. For nature lovers, the mangroves and tropical plant life on site provide homes for an abundance of birds, geckos, iguanas, agoutis, and coatis (Mexican racoons). Snorkelers will find many opportunities to explore the ocean life.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: A real "Grand Resort"

There are many different and diverse facilities to enjoy in this Resort. We have stayed in this resort on four different occasions and had fun each time, and each time we were traveling with different friends and they also loved the place. We like the buffet and the coffee shop but didn't really enjoy the restaurants very much. Unlike every other time, this time, our room was smelling mold. we reported the problem, and they just tried to kill the smell by more cleaning. The room was clean e [... read more]nough already, and the smell did not go away with more cleaning... we wanted to be moved to a different room, but over request was turned down and we were really disappointed. The staff are friendly and mostly helpful.

Iberostar Waves Paraiso Beach: Iberostar Paraiso Beach

We returned from the resort on Sunday and discounting the fact that I got very sick early on the second day of our visit, I would say we had a good time. I mentioned "Montezuma's Revenge" to Nicole and surprisingly, she hadn't heard that expression. In any case, I'm sure it was the salad I had for lunch the first day. It's lush with beautiful vegetation and as a nice surprise, beautiful peacocks strut their stuff around the grounds. The area is like a small village with the 4 resorts. We were in Paraiso Beach. Our room was good.. not luxurious but very clean and comfortable. I can't really comment on the food as I was unable to eat too much, but according to my husband, everything was very good. Fantastic swimming pools and beach. Evening entertainment should be improved in the lobby as well as the theatre, also, the kind of music played by the pool should be reviewed. We found the Rap and HipHop to be very loud, annoying and inappropriate especially with children around. The animation team was great..keeping everyone busy and entertained. We look forward to returning next year.

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Great place!

Well kept grounds. A lot of walking. Lots of room. Did not feel over crowded. Very safe. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Very clean….well organized. Nightly entertainment was fun. Drinks were plentiful.

The Sens Riviera: Will return!!

We travelled with another couple and we all loved the food, drinks, facility, staff and want to return, the only thing we didn’t like was the time it took to get there on the bus but it was worth it!

Allegro Playacar: Honest Review

The front desk staff was horrible. They gave me a room that was already occupied and then gave me a downgrade on the room I had purchased, and lied about it. No hot water and one day no water at all. The food was good and the entertainment staff was excellent. Place needs some serious attention.

Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya: Great resort

This is the 3rd time we've come to the Valentin, we really like this resort. Grounds are well kept, and it's great they are adding new things, last time we were here was in 2018, the coffee house and the food trucks are new since then, they are a great add, The internet was a bit spotty, one of our friends kept loosing connection throughout the day, which is an issue since you need to access it for our phones for the restaurant menus. Food was excellent as always, but it would be nice i [... read more]f we could make reservations, instead of walk in. Grounds and rooms were very clean, and well kept. There was maid service through the day where the room was restocked and during turndown at night, the room was straighten up and towels were replenished. All staff, front desk, restaurant, bar, pool service were very polite and courteous, could not ask for more!

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: great spot

The rooms are tired, the beds are way too small if you don't get a king. The food was really, really good! Everything was clean, the pool areas well kept. The villas are well spaced, so you have to be okay to walk, although the trolleys come regularly. Overall, I would recommend this resort.

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Great resort!!!

There were many pros & few cons to this resort. PROS: Beautiful & clean, beautiful decor, very friendly staff, very large resort and many areas to explore, mall to do some shopping, double decker bus to take you around the resort, great pools, amazing restaurants with great food. CONS: Dolphin enclosure (animal cruelty), no bar in the main lobby to sit & socialize, poor night entertainment/shows, Playa del Carmen and Cancun are a bit far

Allegro Playacar: A week at Alegro

We were disappointed with the fact that the air conditioning did not work properly in quite a few rooms. No hot water for showers most of the week. No water at all one day , toilets didn’t flush…in all public washrooms most toilets were broken or non flushing. Food was good. A la carte restaurants were impossible to reserve. Each room had to line up at 10am to reserve and could not be done in advance. They couldn’t accommodate most people.
