Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: RELAXING

Good points 1- hotel staff very friendly and helpful 2- Food is very good 3- very clean BAD POINTS 1- Not 18 km from the airport but 78km so 1h15 from the airport 2- No hot water or very low water pressure 3- The lobby is starting to show signs of negligence

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: So much fun

This was our first trip ever and it was one to remember the weather the ppl the drinks night life the hotel We're beyond my expectations I would definitely return ❤️❤️❤️It's was 32 daily we did waters falls jet ski zip lining saw the town and how the ppl live meet great staff and new friends

Riu Merengue: Resort has gone down in quality

After going to this resort 4 years (and loved it) we went again in Jan 2018. Huge disappointment. Rooms smelled of mold, food was absolutly horrible, and the a la cartes were worse than the buffet. Lineup for dinner reservations were full by 7am each day. We did find out that the resort was closing in June as it was bought out. Hopefully improvements will be done then. On a positive note, the pools were all clean, great entertainment and beautiful beaches. Staff were all amazing and friendly.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Great resort great time

Was a really wonderful time. Room pool and beach exactly what pics showed. Food good...no one in a group of 12 felt off in any way. Resort small which is nice and what we wanted. Clean. Pretty. Not a party so don't go if that's what you are looking for. Great small resort. Clean. Great good. Lovely people. Sunwing flights back and forth was flawless. Sunscape Puerto Plata: Fun Resort

Pros - fun resort, easy to get around, great staff, very nice beach, good selection of food and drinks, nice cafe. Cons - not enough chairs available at pool or beach, a couple people in our group had stomach issues.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Amazing resort

There was nothing we didn’t like. Food was excellent, property impeccably kept and room was clean. Large resort and beautiful beach. Can use facilities at Riu Merengue as well. Live entertainment every night.

Riu Merengue: Great resort

Liked everything there other than when sitting at tables aroud the bar as ashtrays, cups etc. would sit there, every once and a while somebody might come around and clean your table for you. Other than that I would say it was EXCELLENT!!! ESPECIALLY THE STAFF!!!

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: No negativity here

Rooms were very clean and spacious...food fantastic...al a carte are walk in no reservations. Snack bar fresh and tasty meals. Entertainment team very friendly and busy...pinkie and betty boop were amazing with guests. Ocean sands clean.security guards very friendly. Could use more covered areas for rain days

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: A Beautiful Resort

I wasn't expecting a resort on such a hill but it made for great pictures. I loved the ocean where we spent most of our time. We enjoyed the food and the staff was very friendly. Although our room was dated, the balcony and king size bed made up for it.

l would not recommend this place to my worst enemy it was a total nightmare, me and my wife both got very ill and the service in the hotel did not exist we could have died in our room and know one cared if we were dead or alive stay away from this place the only thing that would make this ok would be a full refund because this was not a vacation unless you wanted to feel like you where in prison.. the first day was ok until these vaulters zeroed in on you to get you to by into the v.i.p [... read more] and time share ,we were told that there was wifi in lobby but that didn't exist the front desk could not speak or understand English the food was ok the resort is all hills and stairs everywhere you had to take a shuttle bus everywhere you wanted to go not very friendly for seniors l asked for a Styrofoam container to get some food for my wife sick in bed l was told we will bring you some bread and crackers no food allowed that's when l lost it the front desk supervisor would not give me here name after l cause a seen at the front desk after many confrontation with the staff finally on our second last day there they where trying to help us with our needs a little to late l could go on an on about this place words could not describe what me and my wife think of this place. and the icing on the cake was we were delayed 3 hours longer than we had to cause air transat had to order a smaller plane to get us out of there

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Nice scenery

Overall the trip was disappointing. It rained many days (which of course is not the fault of the resort). The rooms were spacious and had a nice view of the pool and the beach. There were bugs in the room and it required fumigation - there was minimal warm water available for a shower. The food was pretty good- nothing to write home about. THe beach is awful and full of sand flies- still scratching myself raw. I personally would not recommend this place.

Riu Merengue: Ok family vacation

Very large resort. We stayed in the Merengue Village. The buffet was not opened in that section (only opened the following week) so we had to walk to the Merengue Garden. We were travelling with our children and my father therefore a lot more walking than we would have liked. The line ups at the buffet where very long since the resort was sold out and one buffet was not opened. Changed rooms after the first night since the AC was not working and the room was a lot further in the Village. We  [... read more]got a room closer however the AC was not all that great. For a family resort, I was surprised with all the smoking ANYWHERE on the resort.. Seemed everyone was smoking and it didn't matter if you were at the snack bar, pool, lobby (trying to hide from all the rain we got). The food tasted good and the variety was good.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Will not go back

We have booked a master suite two years in a row and we are given a standard suite. The first year we did not get the room we paid for until middle of the week. This time we went right back to the reception area and would not leave until we got the room we paid for. We were given no reasons as why this happened, no apologies, no nothing. Why is it so hard to give us what we pay for when we get to the resort. Twice in a row is unacceptable.

Huge place, lots of steps, no good for people with mobility issues, clean, good food, excellent service, closed to the airport, Check in time is slow when all guests arrive at once, lots of pools to choose from, many a la carte restaurants

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: You get what you pay for

The ground are clean however pools needed to be cleaned more often In regards to the public pools .a lot of Walking the grounds is to massive however very nice staff at the photo booth and vip transit . However the lifestyle staff are to aggressive in trying to sale you the welcome gift. Rooms were nice however my toilet was leaking , took about four days for them to send someone was they for only a week

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: More Cons than Pros

We (brother in law his wife and us) arrived at the resort to get informed they were overbooked because of a wedding so they gave us our VIP wrist band and transferred us to next door resort. Iberostart. They added another wrist band for regular guests for this resort so we could use their facilities. We have to wait till past 4 PM to get our rooms and they were far apart from each other.. They were to inform us next day if we will remain in this resort or go back to our original. Next day in  [... read more]the afternoon we moved back to our resort where we have to wait for our rooms. Sunwing offered us 1/2 hour massage each and a romantic dinner per couple for the inconvenience ( I will refer this at the end) and they also offered a massage to another couple we met as well and they were upgraded to VIP status. After we moved back my brother in law realized he forgot his jacket and cellular so we informed reception, VIP lounge so they could contact Iberostar. Three days after we kept going and asking about this we were informed they found the jacket but never found the phone. We continued encountering small problems so we expended lots of time going back and forth to either talk to the reception of the hotel or the Sunwing rep. It was raining the last 3 days of our stay and this showed leaks all over the resort so we will see cones warning of wet spots and in some cases only a blue towel which they were totally wet. Last day we decided to go to the Disco located in the Main entrance and there were only a few cones and some towels soaking the leaks. We were avoiding the towels with no presence of cones close to the entrance when suddenly I step on a wet spot and I felt and bang my head violently on the floor. I waited for the Doctor and she checked and put a patch on my head and asked my wife to wake me every 2 hours and left. Next morning we were waiting on the lobby for our bus for he airport and the couple that was moved to VIP was asking if we received the VIP treat. VIP treat was a list of items that VIP people will received, like a bottle of Rhum, massage, bottle of wine with each meal, etc etc which we never received. A few comments from the resort before the final BANG!!! Pool area, always full, people putting towels to reserve spots from before 7 a.m Beach area same thing VIP area same People trying to take you to go to a meeting for time share and beach people offering massage, pictures all day. To finalize this exceptional bad week. 2 days after our arrival back home I have to take my wife to emergency where she stayed for more than 3 days and she contracted Salmonella. And this is only a quick review. The positive I can say about this resort is that employees in restaurants and bars are extremely friendly and will try to please you at all times even after watching them work from early in the morning to late at night.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Stress vacation

Resort overbooked. Moved to next door resort waiting for next day to be moved back. Wasted two days waiting to be check in ( schedule for after 3 p.m.) Leaks in buildings and floors were wet . Reception install warning cones but looks like run short of them so they put towels which were wet all the time. Pool always full as well as beach. Food below average Every time you go to buffet area you will encounter people trying to sell you something. Annoying. Visited 3 restaurants. VH Atmosphere: Small and quiet

This is a renovated/new small and relatively quiet hotel. Check in was quick and a shuttle golf cart to the room. 3rd floor, no elevators. One main sidewak down the middle with buildings on either side. Our room was basic: bed,bathroom,tv, dresser, small closet, and keyless safe, clean. There were other room choices with more room etc.Housekeeping quiet and friendly,as well as grounds and building staff. The buffet was ok. Clean, organized, but needing some guidence for improvements. Selection [... read more] was ok, not great. Pool at first sight was a let down but much bigger once you got in. Down fall, no hand rail into pool and saw an older gentelman fall. Usually enough chairs if some go to the beach. Enertainment staff around pool were fun but not annoying. Some music choices didn't suit the crowd. Not a party hotel. English and oldies more enjoyable, not discusting lurics of some played. Bars had good staff, no line ups, no favourtism. Beach was just ok. Chair area crowded on hot days. Water dirty with rolling water. To get to the beach golf cart shuttle down the street and drop off to a lengthy walkway to beach. Not for those with limited mobility. Grill and bar at the beach. Two A La Carte restaurants, both very good food, menu a little miss leading sometimes. Night entertainment ok. Some trivia, music, games etc. No shows but this is probably better. Open wheelchair ramp to coffee shop has no railing or baracade, could be a problem. WiFi seemed to work for most people. VIP pool and bar seldom used, could use that area for something else. Overall a good hotel. To be noted!! Puerta Plata airport is now taking fingerprints when you check in with your pasport. Made many very uncomfortable!!

Riu Merengue: Value for money

Stayed here for a family trip, had everything we needed and no major issues. Buffet was good with lots of options, plenty of room on the beach, staff are friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the ‘villa’ style room buildings with balconies. Live shows every night, wifi in the lobby, easy and quick check-in.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Be Live Collection Marien

Smaller sized Hotel with extremely friendly and efficient staff. The staff make this hotel as a vacation location . The hotel in spots is a little worn but not enough to worry about. The rooms were exceptional and extremely clean. We have enjoyed this location so much that this time was our second visit.
