Playa Pesquero: Love this resort andwill be returning again for sure
We love Playa Pasquero and have visited 4 times since December 2017.
Upon arrival this time we however were a little disappointed and did not get to the resort until 1230 am on the 4th (should have arrived at around 1030 pm on the 3rd), our plane was delayed in Halifax. We had booked an upper floor and were placed in lower. After a little checking they did manage to find a room so we would not have to switch the next day. They had taken our envelope back along with the towel tickets and gav[... read more]e us a new one without any towel tickets. So the next day we went up early and they would not give us a duplicate until the towel huts opened and they could confirm we did not get towels already.(waited until 9). I did mention to the girl who checked us in that I thought our bracelets were the wrong colour and she assured they were correct. We found out in the morning they were wrong and had to have them replaced.
There was one day we did not received beverages in our fridge, can live with that though, enough to drink on the resort, so many places to choose from. .
The staff are amazing and very helpful.
Beach is beautiful. Pool looks amazing but we are not pool people.
A la cartes are excellent. (Italian, Romantic, Caribbean). We have eaten at the seafood twice and find the lobster is always very dry and seems over cooked. My son had the hake and could not stop talking about it all week, he loved it! I was a little disappointed to see the menus changed at the romantic and Italian and no lobster on their menus anymore, but the food did not disappoint. The Gala dinner was fantastic and so happy to see it setup as a buffet style with many choices.
We did have to wait for our transfer to the airport going home, (it was an hour and half late),no fault of the resort though.
The weather was perfect, sunshine every day in the high 90's and we will be back again for sure!
Great resort.

Playa Pesquero: Excellent Vacation
We had a great time! Resort was beautiful and the staff were very friendly. Recommend bringing your own Bubba mug for drinks as their plastic cups are quite small. The food isn’t the best but you won’t go hungry - it is Cuba after all. The grilled chicken at the lunch buffet and the pancakes for breakfast were really good. Romantico and Italian al la cartes were our favourite. Will definitely be back.

Playa Pesquero: 3rd year in a row at Playa Pesquero!
We had an excellent visit to Playa Pesquero visiting 26 Apr - 03 May. This was our 11th visit to Cuba and 3rd visit to Playa Pesquero. This resort continues to be an excellent value.
All requests emailed to Tripcentral and directly to the resort ahead of time were met! Service at the resort was generally very good. Rooms are starting to show some age however nothing was broken, missing, or out of place. Our room was cleaned very well daily and the bar fridge was restocked daily.
Whil[... read more]e this is a large resort our room was a 15 second walk to the pool, two minutes to the lobby/buffet, and two minutes to the beach. If you are too lazy to walk there are carts that will take you!
We ate at all of the "a la cartes" and the food was very good! We went off the resort to Don Pepe grill for one meal and we glad we did. Most excellent food and a gracious host!
The only excursion we did was a day trip into Holguin in an old 50's car (with A/C of course). On previous vacations we toured Havana and put off a trip into Holguin city until this 3rd visit. This was a fantastic adventure and we will do this trip again if we return next year!
A couple of travelers tips:
If you fly with Transat you want to ensure you select Option Plus which gives you a dedicated check-in line at the airports. This is an absolute lifesaver for the return flight (see below for why).
The Holguin airport is ALWAYS a gong show. Arrivals are usually OK but departures are ALWAYS a disaster. The airport is too small for the volume of people/flights and there are ZERO attempts at organization. When you get to the airport for your return flight just go with the flow and try to remember that you will eventually get through the variety of line ups!
We usually book 10 months in advance and continue to watch the prices afterwards and take advantage of price protection at some point to save a few bucks.
Shortly after booking this resort Transat moved the flights and instead of travelling during the day like we always do we flew during late afternoon for the way to Holguin (not that bad), but this also meant our return trip did not land back in Halifax until the middle of the morning. As an added bonus a storm damaged another airport in Cuba and Transat moved flights around to accommodate. This added another 2 x hours of waiting around the resort. We had to check out of the hotel at 1200, spend the day killing time really until the bus picked us up at 1910 to go to the airport, and eventually got home shortly after 0600 the next morning. Despite being "repeaters" the resort would not give us a minute of extra time in our room. They were happy to sell us a late checkout at 11 pesos/hour but I was too annoyed at that point!.
This resort is not a party resort. Mostly families and older couples etc.
Would I book again?
Tripcentral: Yes! We continue to use Tripcentral as they offer excellent customer service!
Transat: They retain the right to move flight times but the next time they change day flights to night flights I would cancel and find somewhere else to go. So yes we would book but are also prepared to bail if they get up to no good with the flight times after we book.
Play Pesquero: Generally good value for the money however this resort does not show a lot of loyalty to their repeat clients. I've been to resorts where returning for a second visit gives you free late checkout and more. Three visits to this resort gets you nothing! I'm on the fence for next year as the biggest way to show a resort that you were satisfied is to be a repeater and I don't want to encourage poor customer service by giving them my business again.

Sirenis Tropical Varadero: 2nd Stay at Labranda , Varadero
We stayed at this resort in November and found resort beautiful and rooms nice and spacious and updated. The food and drinks were good so we decided to go back this April. This time we did a 9 day trip and brought our daughter, son in law and granddaughter with us. Through their rep Juan we upgraded to an ocean view room. Juan was absolutely awesome and got us beautiful rooms on the 4th floor in the main building right next to each other and secured us coffee makers in our rooms and also a late [... read more]check out. The girls at the Cohibo Bar were great and so was Adonis who made me the best specialty pina colada. We also met a couple of great staff at the main buffet. The resort is beautiful we enjoyed both the pool and the beach during our stay. However I do have to say we were disappointed with the food and drinks on this trip. This resort has so much potential if they could just improve in this area. The majority of our stay drinks were not being made with juice but red mixture that to me was more like kool aid. Also other than Cohibo bar, the pool bar was rarely stocked to make anything more than rum and coke. There were only French fries available on our last day. We have been to Cuba 15 times and several different resorts from 3 star to 5 star. All of the other resorts have always had pancakes and most of them even a pancake station to make them fresh in the mornings. There were none the entire week. The food they did have during the 9 days we were there was very repetitive. More than any other resort we have stayed at ;with pork being grilled pretty much every evening. They didn’t have any themed nights at the buffet. We did enjoy our two a la cartes dinners and also went out for dinner two evenings. I would probably have to think hard about going here again unless I saw reviews with big improvements in the food and drinks. I truly hope they do as the staff and resort itself are wonderful.

Playa Pesquero: Playa Pesquero...
Upon arrival, our bus shuttle was made to be safe and informative. At check-in, we were greeted with kindness and promptness, and were pleasantly pleased with our 3 family, 3 room location. We were greeted with kindness at every eating location. The grounds and buildings appeared to require some attention to details. I can understand the dry growing conditions make it difficult to grow any vegetation with much success. I was concerned that the missing tiles inside the main pools may be a cutti[... read more]ng hazard to peoples feet. had to be vigilant in placing our feet and those of our little grandchildren. I did shake the hand of the maintenance worker refreshing the paint on the bridges. He was being careful and thoughtful to those that would cross the bridge whilst he was painting. It was interesting the notes that were on the Palapas indicating the unnecessary hoarding of loungers on the beach. Enforcement did not appear to be present and in fact there were workers receiving money to ensure the lounger remained vacant for the "buyer". Odd. I thought if there were leaf rakes and more trash containers on the beach, that resoidents may be more inclined to help keep the beach area cleaned. That would obviously take away some work that a contractor would do, but if we all play a responsible role, then it would be less for a worker. Our room attendants were very courteous and made sure we were well
looked after. With all the attention, our visit with our all our family members (10) was a real holiday and one to remember.

The food is fantastic, The buffet has been going downhill a bit in the past few years but noticed on my last stay two weeks ago that they are improving again,
The ala carts are great, Special thanks to Carmen at the Italian, And Jorge Pena at the sea food, You guys are the best.
The beach is just beautiful and clean, with plenty of loungers .
The pool area is huge with plenty of loungers,
The entertainment around the pool and beach is short staff but this might change due to a new entertainment manager, Entertainer Ingrid Gonzalez goes out of her way to please the guest and makes you feel like home Ingrid you rock and have always made us so welcomed with your hospitality .
The rooms are always clean and we feel totally safe with leaving things laying around in our room untouched,
The Lobby is large with plenty of chairs and exelent servers and bartenders , we have never waited long for a drink, Always a smiling face , Only thing is they run out of the Cuban Baileys once and awhile and thats the only drink i drink,
The cappuccinos are great and the girls working the station are fast and friendly,
Poolside bar, These guys rock to serve us with open arms,
The booking department is awesome, I always ask for a certain room when i book and 90% of the time i do get the room that i request,That is good customer service,

Sirenis Tropical Varadero: Pretty Resort and Gardens
Very clean room, common areas including bathrooms and grounds. Very friendly and helpful staff. Our waitress Yanela made a beautifully decorated table for us one evening and provided excellent service the whole time we were there. Food was good, could always find something tasty to eat. For our many visits to Cuba, this rates at the top.

Playa Pesquero: Great as ever
We were in building 60 this year which I believe are standard rooms. The air conditioning was adequate but there were times when we wished we could have just blasted it for a minute, but overnight it was cold enough to use blankets, so as I say, adequate. It was only a short walk to the pool, at the far end, and to the buffet and lobby. The water pressure was great and the service staff did a good job cleaning and providing lots of coffee, sugar, water and Cristal beer. The food was noticeably l[... read more]ess impressive this year but there is a national shortage on a lot of staples right now so as with everything Cuban, they make the best with what they have. In addition to the 4 a la cartes, we opted to pay for 2 other dinners. One new one was an outdoor bbq lobster or steak dinner held just outside the lobby, I think it may have been called Bistro, but I'm not certain. It was nice, good food and nice atmosphere. The other was held on the premium side beside the pool, I can't remember the name of it but it wasn't as nice. The food and atmosphere were average and commonly found on the regular free parts of the resort so I don't feel it was worth paying for. The resort was near capacity and there were still lots of chairs to be found at the pool and at the beach, and both counter service and table service were still friendly and efficient. All in all, it was nice, would definitely return again.

Playa Pesquero: Hotel needs some upgrades
We have been to this hotel several times and have never had a problem with the food till now, we found there was not the variety we expected and when asked were told we just come at the wrong time. We were told the weekend we arrived that a delivery of food was arriving on the Monday, it did we have more of a variety for about 2 days then everything was gone again. We stayed 2 weeks so we were able to see that nothing got better. We approached some of the upper management on a couple of questio[... read more]ns and were just totally ignored. The staff at this place will go out of there way to make sure you feel welcome, to bad management would not take a lesson from them. We will go back because of the people that work there they are great.

Playa Pesquero: Nice resort, needs refresh.
The resort is nicely laid out and the staff is very helpful and friendly. The huge free form pool is great and the evening entertainment was most enjoyable. The beach area is very nice but need to be aware of mosquitoes at dawn and dusk. Buffet restaurants lack variety and presentation. A la carte restaurants were enjoyable and food quite good. However, the buildings, rooms, and grounds are "tired" and sorely in need of updating. On the whole we had an enjoyable and relaxing week.

Playa Pesquero: A disappointment
We have been to this hotel 7 previous times. The most noticeable le change has been the food selection, in short it was deplorable. Cuba is not known for the greatest food, but in our past visits it was not bad. This time , if you found something you liked it would be gone within 2 to three days. It was as if they put yogurt out for example, and it was a popular item, they wouldn't put it out again.
Long story short , we wont be returning to this resort for some time.

Playa Pesquero: Beautiful people and setting
The very best things about this resort in order are: pool, beach, people, weather, grounds, room, and food. We knew not to have high expectations of the food but the quality and selection was worse than expected. My recommendation would be to focus more on offering fewer selections that can be delivered at a higher quality. We paid an additional $260 to upgrade our room and it sounded wonderful but the room had repairs to the bathroom that were sloppily done. Some of the woodwork was in need of[... read more] replacing and a fresh coat of paint would have made a huge difference. The shower was great! The patio was great except there was bird droppings on a chair, located just where your head would rest!! The bed was very comfortable. Entertainment was provided every evening near the coffee bar and that was very enjoyable. Tip to get a good cup of coffee: order an espresso and a cappuccino, drink a bit of the cappuccino and add the espresso. I would only recommend this resort if you are looking for great weather and a great beach.

Playa Pesquero: Amazing resort hotel
It's our 5th time at this hotel. Beautiful resort, amazing people and staff, from check in to check out! Room service was excellent the buffets and restaurants were very good. The VIP dinner was kind of cheap compared to the years before.
All the staff from reception area, to waiters and waitresses to gardeners to bar tenders etc. were extreme nice and polite and all speak at least English or French or both languages. We love this resort and recommend it to others. One more very important thi[... read more]ng, it is so safe you wouldn't worry a second about leaving your personal things on chairs and going to swim!
PS: some younger trainees are working with personnel. Don't leave personnel objects or things like chips, peanuts, or cigarettes on the desk or out of your luggage. My wife was missing one pack of cigarette and a bag of chips (bites and bites). Each time we spoke with the room lady, the trainee could not look at us and was avoiding contact.

Sirenis Tropical Varadero: More than meets the eye!
This hotel was perfect. We originally booked an oceanfront bungalow but upgraded to a junior suite with a sea view. The bungalow is quite a walk to all the amenities. Our bungalow was on the third floor with no elevator. The junior suite was amazing. The bed was a king bed with a beautiful bathroom with walk in shower. We also had a sitting room. We found the suite was well positioned to take advantage of everything the resort had to offer. The beach was breathtaking. The pool was very large wit[... read more]h lots of lounge chairs.
The food was fantastic and had lots of variety. The grounds were very well maintained. Everything was colourful and lush.
From the moment we arrived the check in was quick and efficient. If you had any questions the reception staff was eager to help. The bank made changing your money a breeze. The check out was as fast as check in.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the resort and are already looking forward to returning next year.
I would suggest you give Labranda Resort a try for your next vacation... we are really glad we did.

Playa Pesquero: Overall Amazing Resort
The staff gave excellent customer service, the amount of food and beverages were provided very almost unbelievable generously, the washrooms need at least a fan and are mostly clean, the pools were perfect temperature and clean, I got sick once from eating a lot of prochuitto but had pills for diarrhea thankfully so be careful, the food was decent - fish and chicken were the best, mojitos and pina coladas and coffee and chocolate drinks were amazing, papaya and mangoes were ridiculously good too[... read more], I was most shocked with how friendly the staff were and how genuine they were. I would definitely go back. The AC in the rooms weren’t enough during the day but good during the night - very cold actually. I went in August and would avoid doing so again because of the heat. The ocean was great for swimming and you could see fish too in terms of its clarity. Overall excellent family vacation for relaxation. There were good tours from the resort too which I thoroughly enjoyed.
