Excellent resort

The hotel was great and offers many things to do. They had excellent shows at night for all ages. However, the A La Cart restaurants wasn't what I expected. It did not taste like the Italian or Japanese foods that they offered.

Good resort

The hotel itself was dated and could use some updating. That being said, the resort overall seemed clean. Room: Although my room really had no issues, other than an uncomfortable mattress, and some cracked floor tiles. The resort grounds were well kept. Beach: The beach was groomed each morning. It was near impossible to find a decent beach chair if you did not go early enough, however we quickly learned that we could find a worker, pay in $2Cuc and he would find chairs to place wherever we want [... read more]ed on the beach. My complaint about getting to the beach is: at either entry to the beach there were stairs, which either had sharp rock jutting out at the bottom of the stairs, or you had to walk across some exposed rock to get to the sand. Food: By far this is the best Cuban resort food that I have eaten in a buffet. Although it seemed repetitive most days, there was always something to eat. The beach bar had a pizza station - the pizza was good, minus the wait time, as there was only 1 person working. Overall: The resort is dated, and probably sits somewhere between a 3.5 to 4* (based on Cuban standards) Would I recommend this place to someone: The simple answer is yes, if they could get a deal. It was relaxing. When I go on a vacation I don't go for the room, I go for the beach, ocean and sunshine.

Nice resort bad service

The hotel was nice and beautiful beaches as well however the service was not good. We constantly were having to ask for toilet paper and for the room to be cleaned before 6 pm was a chore. The cleanliness of the common areas especially the bathrooms was disgusting. We enjoyed everything there but the service, cleanliness and food. I would go back to cuba but not to this resort

Overall a good vacation

There were several pro's and con's to this resort: Pro: short walk to the beach, competition for lounge chairs not horrible, beautiful well kept beach and water was good (very little rocks, debris) Con: rooms were dated and worn with a bad need for a reno, beds were hard and uncomfortable, food was mediocre (pork and beef like shoe leather), the ice cream usually melted, but with the occasional dish that was good. The staff were usually kind and helpful. The drinks were a bit frustrating.. like getting beer or lemonade served in cups a bit larger than dixie cups. One swallow.. gone... back in line for refills. The cups were ok for mixed drinks. The music noise around the pool was annoyingly loud. All. The. Time. with the same old Cuban thump thump thump beat. A bit of variety with the odd North American music would be nice to mix things up a bit. I think most people sat at the beach to escape the noise around the pool as much as to enjoy the beautiful sand and water. The 'adult' pool was mostly used by kids since it felt like it was 3' deep. Ok for water aerobics I guess but not much else. It didn't matter much given the much warmer ocean water. While we paid for the Ocean View, we mostly saw the trees lining the beach, but the sound of the waves and proximity to the beach made up for it. Sadly, being on the ground floor, we had to keep the screen door closed (for security) and there were no windows we could open to enjoy the ocean air and sound at night. Getting in and out of Cuba was frustrating with very long check-in times and lineups, then waiting for Cuba immigration (in and out) taking FOREVER, then security scans of baggage, etc. then waiting in and for the bus to and from the airport. Overall, due to the amazing weather, great beach, and safe Cuban environment, the trip was still good despite some of the down sides I mentioned. My impression was this was one of the better hotels in the area.

Staff is excellent!

We had a large group all family members ranging from 4-65 yrs. the hotel was comfortable in a great area and the staff was extremely accommodating. The beach was in close proximity and was gorgeous. The kids enjoyed the water sports and really loved the crew that ran the boats etc. Our maid was wonderful everyone loved her and the staff for dinner upstairs at Jimmy Buffets was excellent and entertaining . The shows were fun and the food good for Cuba. The only complaint we would have would be th [... read more]e lunch was very busy downstairs at the buffet the lines sometimes too long and the beAch area could use more removal of cigarette butts. As a non smokers we really appreciate a cleaner beach.

Sad state of resort

No toilet paper, soap, or hand towels in public wash rooms .entering many times after cleaners were there..ceilings leaking, water over hallway floors, mold on bedroom, hallways, main floor lobby, This resort should be torn down.It is not a 4 star! Wonderful staff, good food and plenty of sun

This hotel is older, however it's very clean and the staff are absolutely fantastic. The beach was great for younger children to play on, and had enough waves to keep the older ones entertained as well. The pool was nice too, but I'm a salt water type of person so preferred being on the clean well kept beach. The food was good. It isn't perfect, but honestly it's good. The kids were happy with the choices, there was plenty of it and everything was decent. Not fine dining but I wasn't looking for [... read more] fine dining anyways...we never had trouble finding something yummy to eat and if you're really picky, there's always the pasta bar at which you can get your pasta made to order. All in all a wonderful vacation. If I was going on a budget again I would definitely go back. Also, the evening shows were great too. My kids loved them and looked forward to them every night.

Great Value & Stay

Clean& tidy. Friendly & helpful staff. Lots of choices for all meals. Great pool atmosphere. The beach was clean & long. Water was sandy underneath ,went out about 70yds and could still touch bottom in some places, no rocks. Golf course right across the street.

Best holiday ever!

This was my first trip to Cuba and it has exceeded my expectations. Breezes bella costa was awesome. The food is absolutely amazing and by far better then any other resort in Varadero. I spoke with many ppl from other resorts and their food was not a good experience. We had lobster weekly and fresh fish made daily as well as the amazing freshly made thin crust pizzas. Plus we got lucky and saw Massari live our first night there. There are two good clubs near by one being next door and its like a 5 minute cab ride into Varadero. Few tips: exchange your money at the airport or at the banks as the exchange rate is not regulated at the resorts so they are not as good. Cab into town is 10 pesos however u might as well get them to call you a cadillac as its the same rate and so much more fun to ride in a classic car. The hotel rooms are a bit old but how much time do u plan on being in your room lol. I recommend calling ahead once you book and request either a ocean view room corner room or a villa. I can't wait to come back to this resort!!! Also this resort has the huge and only golf course. Its free but u just have to pay for the cart. Clubs are there and are free. Very family friendly resort and there were tons of people of all age ranges which made it really fun. **buy your rum and cigars at the airport in your way home..its cheaper and packed nicely for your flight!

Disappointed!

1. Accessible. Small resort and is to reach all the facilities. 2. Night entertainment, i.e. dancing was very good. 3. Daily activities were great and they give out many prizes. 4.There were good game areas such as billiard, ping pong, chess etc. We did not find any water sports such as kayaking and pedal boats. 5. The beach was nice and there were enough beach chairs. 6. The worst food comparing to the other 4-star Cuban resorts we've been. Very cheap (beans, corns and other canned foods). Poor [... read more]ly prepared food (e.g. deep fried fish was very greasy and did not taste good. Also the leftover was used in other form for the next day. The same risotto type food was served a few days in a row some times watery and sometimes dry.) Good food such as shrimp finished very quickly. We asked the staff to get more, she said "finished" in a rude way. We ended up eating spaghetti every day because that was the only food we could eat. 7. Not friendly staff. The majority of staff do not smile and do not greet even though they look straight into your eyes. 8. Some staff asking money. Many staff expecting tip; otherwise they do not smile, even though the hotel website says tips included. 9. Poor service e.g. many times no toilet paper in the public bathrooms; a few times no beach towels until the next day. 10. The blankets are very old and shabby.

Bad stomach because of the food

The staff were fantastic, always friendly and helpful with a smile. The grounds were beautiful. The pool and beach were nice. The room was below average. The food was very very poor. I had an upset stomach the whole trip, and I usually do not have stomach problems.

Bella costa great food experience

Older resort, but amazing staff.

Yes this is an older resort and we were aware of that. The big problem we encouraged was the noise in our room due to the entertainment during the day and from the show at night. We paid more for an ocean view and we were but in room 246. Yes we had a partial ocean view but our balconie was facing the back of the stage for the nightly entertainment. They tol [... read more]d us we were going to loose out ocean view. No problem. We were placed in room 507. Ironically it had a view the road, golf course and then the ocean as well. (Otter side of the coast). We had a good time at the reaort. Food was not the best, but we always found something we liked. Go get a pizza at the reaort any ne'er the beach. Yumm!

Terrible resort

the hotel is 4 1/2 stars it more like a 2 stars, water was dripping from every celling lobby, hall way , restaurants,, very poor service we feel like every time we ask the server for something they look at us like we dis turn them , the beach was terrible we go on vacation every year and it the first time I am write bad reviews, the room smell so bad, the maid was very good, and the front desk service was good, we went there for my niece wedding 40 of us was not happy with the resort

Disappointed

Stayed at the Breezes Bella Costa Nov 19 to Nov 26. I've been to Cuba many times so I know what to expect however I would not consider this a 4* as rated instead more a 3*. The grounds and common areas were well maintained However the resport is very old and most rooms were in need of repairs. Our room had a constant leak as did other rooms. They say the beach area was hit by a storm so it is no longer a wide level area which is what I am use to in Cuba. Despite all that I still had a great time [... read more]. Entertainment was amazing as we went for the Desert Nites Z103.5 trip. If it were not for that this would not be my hotel of choice compared to others that I've stayed in.

Exellent vacation.

To me,that was my first holiday in Canada which is the most beautiful place whole my life, so I will recommended my friends who wants to go to the vacation in somewhere. I spent good time in there with my girl friends. I think that if hotel has some more entertainment to show us like bally dance.

Great time

Hotel was great, large rooms and friendly staff. Food was good overall and you are close enough to town you can always walk or cab in to try some other places. 24/7 bar was awesome and the resort had great nightly entertainment. If you are looking for a great place to go dancing and experience Cuban night-life go to Calle 62. Amazing bar with a street party every night. For food check out alladin cafe and kiki's which has great pizza

Old resort, amazing beach

The hotel is NOT a 4.5 star, more like a 2. Resort was very clean, but old and in desperate need of a renovation. Our very thin mattress was very uncomfortable and had little ants in our room everyday. We had an oceanfront villa. It took 2 days to get a extra bed (booked one) so one child slept in the big bed with us. We've been to Breezes in Bahamas and Jamaica and this Breezes by far was the poorest. Beach is amazing. 4 star - no way!

June 2014 This hotel is listed as a 4 star, but no way is it even close to a four. This was our 5th time in Cuba and this resort was the most disappointing one we have stayed at. The rooms at best would be a 2 and then maybe for the rest a 3 or 3 ½. We have stayed at other 4s in Cuba (for around the same price as Bella Costa) and the quality was far superior to the Bella Costa. Rooms - The standard rooms are very dated (room # 421). If you have any mold & chemical allergies beware, as my daught [... read more]er & son-in-law had to change rooms (# 419) it was so bad and could not sleep. The curtains and bedspreads look like they have not been washed in a long time. Flight to and from Cuba - Beware of flights that stop en route. Check your itinerary carefully. As this can add an additional 1 ½ hour to your flight time, provided everything is running smoothly. This is becoming a more common practice with airlines. Our trip in June with Sunwing had added stops going into and out of Cuba and both times the plane was late. Scheduled to leave Cuba at 10:30 p.m.-left at midnight, 1 ½ hours late. The delayed flight was not posted on the internet or at the Cuba airport. My husband who was to pick us up in Toronto checked our flight status after we should have been in the air for over an hour and it still showed the plane was on time, so he left to pick us up, only to find out when he got to the airport that the plane was going to be 1 ½ hours late. He had to be up early for work the next day too. Main Dining room – crowded & noisy The tables are very close together. Hard to walk around. Very noisy, hard to hear yourself talk, especially on the weekend as there seemed to be more Cuban guests. Service hit and miss, mostly miss, especially with drinks in the buffet – order two because they might not be back to your table (this was after having to flag someone down). It seemed that the people that complained or were the loudest got the better service. Pool Did not use the pool as it was crowded with people, no room to swim, especially on the weekend when it was busier. Beach Beautiful! Nice and close to the hotel, not far to walk to. But, watch out for the rocks going into the water. Evening Entertainment It was okay, a couple of good shows, some mediocre and then some not so good shows. Other Amenities The gym is dated. They do have some “newer” cardio equipment, but the weight machines showed their age. Did not participate in the resort’s activities or much of anything else so I cannot comment on anything else : )

Great time again.

This trip was our second time to the Breezes Bella Costa and it was as great as we anticipated. We, my wife and I, have been to Cuba about 15 times at various resorts and the Bella Costa is the only one we always said we wanted to return to. Beach, ocean-view accommodation, food, entertainment and the staff were great. Looking forward to our third trip.
