Amazing Resort!

We have been to Cuba several times but this was out first trip to Cayo Coco. We absolutely loved this resort. It was quite small (which we enjoyed), the best food we have ever experienced in our eight trips to Cuba. The staff were so incredibly friendly. The beach was beautiful. The resort, although a bit older, was very clean, very well laid out, had several bars, a la cartes and the buffet was superb! There is no swim up bar at this resort but the 24 hour snack bar was just adjacent to  [... read more]the pool. We enjoyed the beach bar and newly rebuilt beach restaurant as well. Melia Cayo Coco

This hotel is awesome! We have been at this resort now 5 times and we love it. The service, rooms, pool, beach, a la cartes are great. The staff are very friendly. I look forward to my next visit at this resort. This is the best adult resort in Cayo Coco!

Comfortable, cozy and clean with a dash of spectacular!

At first glance, the Melia Cayo Coco looked like a hotel that is very well cared for. The grounds are beautifully manicured, the washrooms in the lobby are pristine. The food in the main buffet as well as in all the à la carte restaurants was quite good (especially the fresh Basa on the grill in the buffet and the Blue fish dish in the International). All the shows are top quality and because this resort is adult only; there are pre-shows around 8 pm that showcase many talented musicians [... read more] of all music genres Jazz, rock and roll, opera, Cuban flavor and classical. This is a classy resort, no excessive or loud music all day long, no beer-chugging or get drunk at the swim-up pool bar. By 10h30 or 11h00pm the older crowd is dispersed and off to bed. So the disco that starts around 11h00 is a no show for many people. If you want to continue partying, many younger adults 18+ go to the disco at the caves off resort. As part of the Melia experience, there were services offered and activities available to keep you as busy as you wished to be. You could take a peddle bike free of charge for an hour or two and visit the market close by or tour the other sister hotels nearby. You could hop on a double-decker bus for a small fee for the day and tour the neighboring hotels and /or Pilar beach. You could take a little train ride or walk to the small market. There is also a sport facility where you can try archery, a tennis lesson, bocce, Ping-Pong or fuse ball. The animation team worked hard to ensure that your experience at the Melia was an enjoyable one. As we tried rum tasting at the pool, the bar tender showed the crowd how to mix the most popular drinks in Cuba using their rum. At the beautiful white sand beach with aqua blue waters, you can relax under the many palapos reserved for Melia guests or if you are feeling adventurist, you can reserve a ride on a small catamaran at the aquatic center at the Sol hotel next door (sister hotel) or go on a snorkeling excursion for 15 cucs to a small coral reef in front of the hotel. Most importantly, we return year after year to Cuba (mostly Cayo Coco) because of the friendly nature of Cubans, for the lively rhythmic music, for the pristine beaches and most of all because Cuba is as authentic as it gets. There are no MacDonalds or other big major restaurant chains, no annoying salesperson trying to sell you timeshares at there resort, no excessive motorized watercrafts at the beach. Cuba is like going to your second home (cottage) for a short summer vacation.

Good

They are working very hard to get it back to what it was .It is starting to look nice . Food was good drinks were great . Great coffee in the morning at the pool bar. Rooms could use better mattresses . Over all it was a great holiday. Staff was very friendly even the graders they would make you a little bird or give you a flower .always a hello☺

Definitely a place to return to

Wonderful resort. Good service and clean surroundings. Even after the damage done in the hurricane last November the resort had been returned to a beautiful location. Beach was clean and there were plenty of lounges so it wasn’t hard to get a chair every day. A la carte restaurants were good and staff throughout the resort were helpful and friendly.

Great Adults only resort

I spent a week at this resort over March Break. It is lovely and clean. I really enjoyed the quietness of no spring breakers. No loud music around the pool or blasting tunes from a disco til all hours of the morning. Nice selection of restaurants and food choices. Beautiful top notch beach. Lots of chairs and palapas. But most of all I LOVE THE CUBAN PEOPLE! Beautiful, friendly, helpful. Such a treat. I would return tomorrow if I could. Xo

A nice week at the Melia

We spent a week at the Melia Cayo Coco from Mar 10-16. Arrival and check-in went very smoothly. We exchanged our Canadian $ to CUCs at the reception desk. We had emailed a few weeks prior to request a second floor room close to the beach. To our delight, our room request was granted. We had a lovely view of the beach from our front door. The water temperature and pressure is great. The tile and tub were clean, but it was dated and in need of repair/renovation. STAFF: As stated by so many previous reviewers, the staff is fantastic. They truly go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable. As an example, we mistakenly forgot our snorkeling gear on the beach. It took only a short time for the staff to locate it with the assistance of beach security. We were very grateful for their help. BEACH: We are beach people, we do not go to the pool. The beach is beautiful. It is quiet and relaxing. Staff will help you locate lounge chairs. We did not have any issues finding a spot. The beach is not full of people and loud music like other resorts we have been to in the past. We appreciated that change. We are younger than the crowd at this resort, but we wanted a peaceful experience. The turquoise water and white sand made for one of the most beautiful beaches we’ve been to. It was windy on 5 of our 7 days, but that did not stop us from enjoying the water. The beach is long and wide and great for long walks. We took advantage of the included Hobbie Cat ride. Loved it. We also paid $15 cuc for the hobbie cat ride to the reef for snorkeling. FOOD: My husband enjoyed the food a bit more than me. We preferred the buffet over the a la carte restaurants. The a la carte restaurants have a lovely atmosphere and the staff ensure a positive experience. The food was just not to our taste. The beach bar has a great atmosphere and we really enjoyed the Cuban band during lunch. As the week progressed we could see the reason people return to the Melia. It has a quaint and comfortable feeling. Staff is very attentive and want you to enjoy your time. Our priority is to spend time on the beach and we definitely were able to do that at this resort. Other than the shower (and some of the food), we had a very positive week at the Melia Cayo Coco.

Awesome Place

The hotel itself was very nice , easy access to all the grounds and the food and beaches were amazing. A lot of repeat business at this place from talking to people felt very safe the whole time wonderful people working at this resort they really treat guests very well and are so friendly . Will be going back again for sure. Nothing bad to say about this place it was everything we were looking for .

Exceeded Expectations!

From the moment we arrived at Melia Caya Coco, we were impressed. Welcomed warmly, even though past midnight, and for the duration of the trip, service was remarkable. Staff is very helpful and friendly and willing to please. We had a few minor issues which were resolved very quickly and followed up by Yunismy, our most wonderful Customer Service resort staff. The rooms were very clean and some have newly renovated bathrooms---everything was lovely despite the damage done by the hurricane  [... read more]last Fall. We enjoyed days at the beach and/or pool and usually did not have trouble finding chairs or pool huts. We did notice that several non-resort visitors enjoyed the resort as Melia allows you to visit all other Melia resorts. This sometimes led to more trouble finding chairs and made for larger crowds at the buffet. Buffet was good to very good, again exceeding expectations we had based on past visits to Cuba. The servers were delightful and went out of their way to offer drinks, special coffees and a good table. Food, water and drinks were safe and well prepared. A la carte restaurants were just ok--the Cuban Grill was the best. No issues about reserving day of. Of note is the AMAZING talent at all shows--we didn't miss any as they were so well done, professional. The lobby bar was an excellent place to meet for shows and have coffee (double espresso cappucino recommended!) or drinks (wine is ok, no premium alcohol/liquers available but cervaza was good and cold!)/ You can buy well known brand bottles of wine at the bar for 6-8 CAD! Overall, excellent week in Cuba--beach is one of the most beautiful in the world with great swimming. And only 15 minutes from the airport! We will be back!

Beautiful Beach

Hotel met all our expectations, beach was stunning, resort was spotless, rooms were clean but could use some updating. Food was good above our expectations from what we had heard about Cuba. Staff very friendly. Was an excellent relaxing vacation.

Highly recommend

We have been to Cuba many times and this is the best resort we have been too. The food was exceptional and it we looked forward to eating at the buffet everyday, every meal. International Al la cart was so good we went twice in one week :) . Repeat older clientele have a sense of entitlement, when we arrived the majority of customers were 65+, but when we left the age had gone up and a few 20+ people had arrived, so mixed bag. Waiting on transfer bus at airport for cigarette smokers and beer drinkers was annoying. I would absolutely return, because the pros outweigh the cons...lovely resort! We were there early March

First Time at Melia Cayo Coco

Fantastic friendly staff, great beach and the food was good too. Resort is super close to the airport, only about a 15 min bus ride so we were on the beach in no time once we arrived in Cuba. A BIG shout out to Charles the egg and pasta guy at the buffet, you could totally tell he took a lot of pride in what he makes. Real nice guy. Will totally return for another stay.

Amazing resort,amazing staff

My wife and I just returned from a 10 night stay at this beautiful resort.We have gone to many resorts all over the Caribbean and can say that this resort was one of the best we have ever experienced.Beach is beautiful,Food in buffet was great always fresh....Charles the omelette guy is awesome..This was our first visit here but we now understand why people keep coming back....if your looking for quiet and relaxation this is the place for you!

Melia in March

The resort was very nice - very clean and the staff were friendly. A little more information from the desk staff regarding the restaurants and facilities would have been good. The food was better than we expected however the coffee and wine were not great. The ala carte restaurant experiences were excellent! Very quiet and relaxing...just what we were hoping for.

The perfect getaway

From the minute we arrived until our departure. The hospitality at Melia was impeccable! Fantastic staff, warm, caring, attentive, engaging and made our experience very memorable. Home away from home

If you want a place that treats you like family look no further then Melia Cayo Coco. This was our second time to this resort and a lot of the staff remember you from the previous year. We have many so many new friends staff and people as this resort is small so you see these people everyday when you are there. This hotel is a 5 plus in our books.

Another amazing time at Melia Cayo Coco!

Out third time to Melia Cayo Coco. They have done an incredible job with recovery after Hurrican Irma. The staff at the resort always go out of their way to make your vacation very special. We will be back!

Always amazing

Although there was much devastation after Irma, the hotel and staff were as good as on our previous visits and we will be visiting Melia again. The food was also up to par. The entertainment, although carried out in the bar area, was superb and kudos to the entertainment staff. Only have one objection and that is guests opting to chose their seating around the pool early in the morning and then not returning to them until later in the day.

Terrific Valentine's Day trip

My husband and I did not have really high expectations for our trip to Cuba as this was our third time visiting. All we knew for sure was that the beach was going to be amazing. Melia Cayo Coco was a wonderful surprise. The resort was 15 minutes from the airport. The check in was done within minutes. The food was excellent and there was very good variety. The rooms were large and clean, and the service was friendly and not obtrusive. And the beach was more than amazing...it was large, clea [... read more]n and had lots of sun shelters with roofs for shade. Many of the nice guests we spoke to were there for their 7th, 8th, and 9th time! Yes, we have been to many ultra-lux hotels on other islands, but if we are talking about value for your money for the beautiful weather and people of Cuba, then I would absolutely recommend this hotel.

Exceeded expectations

Very nice small hotel - Melia needs to invest in renovating the rooms, bedding & linens which would improve this property so much - very dated! Exceptional staff from front desk - entertainment (Victor is an asset to this hotel) to the bellboys and even the gardeners who do a great job of the grounds. Food very good - best I've had in Cuba however have to do a better job on freshness & rotation of salads etc. That are left out at beach restaurant...not good!
