Lovely vacation

Beautiful grounds,beautiful beach,friendly staff, food was good-enjoyed the buffet at the main hotel and breakfast at El Benny's was a nice change some mornings. Return guest dinner was nice and fun. Our meal at L'espada(a la carte) was not good fresh food. Our room in tropical section was nice.Bathroom very tiny but everything worked. Hot water for shower 13 out of the 14 days.Nice chairs on the balcony. Would be nice if there was a better setup for check in-it's not good for staff or guests [... read more]-proper setup for lineups would help(and the same at the airport lineups!). People get very frustrated and in some cases pretty angry. Mohitos and Margheritas were only available at one bar and then only 4 hrs a day. Only sometimes diet cola was available and never did we find diet 7up except you had to buy it at the hotel store. So for diabetics or people who like not-so sweet drinks, not so good. Communication about nightly entertainment was poor. We enjoyed evening entertainment at the main bar and at the main buffet. We actually had a king size bed but we always find the beds too hard to get proper sleep, which is not so good for 2 weeks. Again the bath towels were absorbent but way too small. They were refreshed regularly. Wi fi access has improved since last visit.

Beautiful place

The people and the place are great just a good thing I had some Imodium with me. I needed to use it on the second full day. The food preparation might need some work. I needed to take it a few times. I ate and drank normally.

Nothing much has changed at Club Amigo

Fantastic service from many old friends we have met over the 20 years going there. Remember that they are only a 3 star resort. We find that the maintenance has really declined. Patio doors not working, holes in walls in villa 9 (seems to be the overflow villa when they pretend to be full), fixtures falling apart or broken off tubs etc., Air conditioners not serviced and only blowing room temperature air. I would recommend if you are adventurous and leave the resort to experience the Cuban way. A safe place to sleep and keep your belongings. Would recommend to a friend with 20 years knowledge behind it. Wish they would serve drinks in glass.

Best value in the Caribbean

If what you want is hot sun, pure white sand and a gorgeous turquoise sea then there is no better value. Hands down the safest place I have ever stayed..on the entire planet! ..friendly staff..decent rooms (I only use the Villas) The food isn't the greatest, but fresh fish twice a day is okay by me...very uncrowded feeling...I've been 7 times and my new partner fell in love with it the first day...we'll be back!!

Needs work

Stayed April 1-8 2018 Pros: beautiful beach, warm weather, friendly wait staff/maids. I stayed in the bungalow it needed major work. Found 1 cockroach, a few spiders and tons of mosquitoes. I would not recommend staying in the bungalows.

Favorite resort in Cuba

The food was very good. We have been to many resorts in Cuba and often couldn't find much we like to eat. Club amigo has many options, all are good. Book your a la carte dinners right away. They fill up quickly. The resort is large and clean and around every corner there is something to do. You definitely won't be bored. Aside from one grouchy bartender, the staff was very friendly, smiling and fun to be around. The boulevard, the market, Rico's pizza, guardalavaca beach, guardalavaca village... [... read more] So much to do just outside the resort as well. 5 gold stars

Great beach location

To give you perspective, this is my 2nd time in Cuba with my daughter who is 6 now. The beach is breath taking and this resort being located next to it is a bonus. The only downside is that the beach is shared with the public so you will encounter those who try to sell you “cuban crackers” and “roasted peanuts or peanut caramel” of which I bought all 3. The resort pool needs repair but we barely went in it. The all you can eat buffet has a great selection, seafood, meats and pasta.  [... read more]Plenty of desserts and icecream. My only bad encounter was the coffee bar located on 2nd floor. The coffee barista looked miserable. I ordered a coffee and hot chocolate for myself. His face only brightened when I tipped him 2 CUCs which basically paid for my coffee. Expect this throughout the resort. Its a very tip based resort. I tried the a la carte lobster dinner for 10 CUCs which works out to $14 canadian. It was a delicious 3 course meal. Do not buy gifts from the hotel market. The prices are jacked up 3 times compared to the market that is a walking distance away. The gift shop in the hotel has fair prices, i compared prices at airport. Airport prices were 3 times prices of gifts in gift shop in hotel lobby. The excursions are pricey! Catamaran was 90 CUCs per person, which i find relatively pricey for Cuba. The rooms are comparable to motels or inns in Canada. The pillows are very thin so if anything pack another pillow. Cable worked, a few english channels. The internet is ok only during non peak hours. I was able to use whatsapp. Cards were 1 CUC per hour use. I would def go back to the resort.

Amazing resort

The overall experience for our 1st time at Club Amigo was amazing!! We will return again. Everyone on staff are friendly. The food was edible. We always found something to eat. The dentist on the resort is remarkable if you need anything done thats where you can have anything done from whitening your teeth to dentures!!!

We love this place !

I cannot say enough good about Club Amigo Atlantico, service is great, staff are friendly and the food is plentiful. Even my fussy husband is happy with the food there. Lots of entertainment and things to do. Market is so close, can't say enough about CA !

Awesome beach

Thanks Gail for organizing our trip to Guardalavaca. This was our 3rd time to Club Amigo. We had a beautiful room or should I say suite. Our room was awesome (room Villa 5108). It was nice to see many staff members from our previous trips. Gail thanks for booking our hotel in Toronto...The Carlingview...it was great to take a day before and after our trip before heading home. Mixed feelings

My room is in the main building with the Reception, it is too close to some commercial outfit. There were two nights with deafening music and in one night it started at 1:30 A.m.! Needless to say, sleep was much affected. The beach is nice, however.

Going, going, gone!

This is our 3rd. and probably last time staying at this hotel. We got a great deal $609 pp. for a Villa Room. They are renovating the barracks and bungalow rooms. Unfortunately there are problems with many of the clients now using this resort on a more regular basis. I understand that this is Cuba and it is their country. They do jump lines and frequently are given attention before non Cuban clients. There are families and large groups that now use the beach on a regular basis. They display no r [... read more]espect for the appearance of the beach as they are responsible for majority of the garbage that is left on the beach. Liquor bottles, beer bottles and cans, serving dishes and left over food are simply left under the palapas to be cleaned up in the morning by the gentlemen raking the grass and seaweed from the beach. A couple who saved their spot on the beach with their own towels, had their towels and loungers taken by a group of Cubans. When they came back after breakfast their things had been taken. The police who were on the beach daily were not able to help the couple retrieve their belongings. The police were visible every day checking identification of some of the Cuban ladies that accompany some of the older gentlemen. It is very difficult to avoid the smokers. They are constantly present in all of the bars and outdoor eating facilities. They group together on the beaches and tend to be mostly from the other province. As Canadians we were certainly in the minority as a couple. The resort itself is well kept and has many outstanding qualities that are appealing. We noticed many individuals taking pictures on the beaches and near the paths and walkways throughout the property. The market is now at the eastern end of the barracks. The food was typical of a 3 star resort as it didn't vary much from day to day. The 2 a la cartes were enjoyable and the food was good. The front line workers are all pleasant and appear to enjoy what they do and it is easy to engage them in conversations. The front desk personal are another matter as they are often abrupt and almost rude, but that is probably a result of the constant pressure they are under. Whenever a bus load comes in they are understaffed and the situation lacks organization. As a 3 star hotel they do run out of things. When things are broken it takes quite some time to get them fixed. While we were there the fresh water system near the lobby broke down and wasn't repaired the entire time we were there. They only had beer at certain locations. If you were on the beach you had to go all the way through the lobby to the new bar in order to get beer. Many people were coming through with only bathing suits. The villas still are the best location. They are closest to Benni's and the 24 hour restaurant/bar. You are also closer to both of the cove beaches which we preferred on the last 2 days. There were other problems (the airport) but were not the fault of the resort. I would only recommend this resort if you were able to book a villa room for 6-7 hundred pp.

Adios to Club Amigo

Where to begin, first off, let me say that this was our second visit to Club Amigo, went in 2013 and fell in LOVE with this gem of a resort and could not wait to return...BUT since then, there have been some vast changes...firstly we will begin with the beaches, they are different since the hurricanes and tropical storms, a cute little beach now directly off Benny More Restaurant, small, get there early if you want a chair. Pirate bar, has a fantastic bar, Luis does an amazing job. The statue [... read more] of Christopher Columbus was destroyed, not by weather but drunken tourists. Shame on you!! Where you once needed water shoes for that particular beach is now, a beautiful swimming area, for cooling off. We did not go to the main beach where the paddle boats are such are located, as there are many locals there, and last time, my snorkel gear, grew some legs and walked away, that left me with some hard feelings, so we steered clear of that beach, this time around. We booked the Tropical Section here in Canada, (FYI travel agent told me terrace or balcony was included with this booking as I asked her twice!! Shame on you Shauna at Trip Central, for lying to me, I will not book with you in the future.) The Transat rep Raul, stated that the Rep in Canada would have know better, and the it's only rated as a 2 Star at best. Upon arrival was told there was NO balcony or terrace option and had to pay $70 CUC to upgrade to the Villa section. The ladies at the front desk are cranky, mean, b!tch#s to say the least, they do not care if it is your first time or 8th or 28th. We spoke to many people who have been to this property many, many times, and have the same feeling as we did, ADIOS Amigo. The room looked like a crime was committed by the last round of guests, blood splatters on the lamp shade, ( not kidding) I have pictures, burn holes so big on the linens your toe would get stuck and broken off. Moldy curtains, and shower was a breeding ground for bacteria and mold, the list goes on and on. Would only book this property again if I could get it for 450 per person or LESS, has gone down hill A LOT and is not worth more than that, it is rated a 2* in Canada, which my agent failed to inform me of. Transat shows it as a 3.5* All the pools are GREEN, and not in the environmentally friendly way either, filters do not work, people puke in them daily, and they do not close them off when this happens to clean them, by the time they rally the security, the people have either had a another drink or drowned, HA-HA, or gotten out of the pool and left. Loved the Halloween theme in the main buffet at the hotel every night, bat(s) and a rat, well maybe it was unintentional but still gave us something to discuss at dinner. Drinks were OK when not running out of them daily. No mojitos, lack of mint, no coffee liquor for the brown cows, which are Delish! Recommend having one or several if they have the items to make them. The typical, Peso for my baby gauntlet, is only on the weekends now, which is nice, peddlers still on the beach, but less aggressive than other resorts that we have been too. Twice during vacation room was not made up, AT ALL! We had to find the maid to get fresh towels. Bungalow section was shut down, (no swim up bar, and green pool) No grill a la carte any longer, that was our favorite. Best breakfast was at the villa section 24 hour snack bar. 2nd best Benny More. Returning guest dinner was OK. All in all, if you go with LOW or NO expectations, get it for a CHEAP price, your set! We would however go again, but only if it was FREE or a steal of a deal (as in if you can get this for 800$ taxes in for two people) go for it, that would be perfect, and about all it is worth now.

I was a returning guest, hotel was good, food was real bad this time, running out of things, hot weather, no rain, lots of improvements around the hotel, returning guest dinner was excellent, I will return in the future

People in Need

Everytime we go the needs are greater. Please pack your luggage to the max with a mind set of helping others. Things you take for granted are the same things the Cuban people long for. Build relationships with them and find out for yourselves.

Amazing Hotel

Considering that it is an old Resort, is very well maintained. Service was good and fast. Place very clean. As of all Resorts in Cuba, food is an issue, not many choices. Overall is a nice place to spend a week in it. Was easy to switch room to a better one. Great help!

Great resort

The hotel was great. The beach amazing and the water was fabulous. I really enjoyed my trip. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. The grounds was very nice. It could be better lit for walking in the nighttime. The food was better than I thought it would be. The pool area was great as well. There was so many places to hang out that you would not get bored. They had multiple pools so the area was not over crowded which I liked the best.

3 star hotel = 3 star quality

Sea/beach were wonderful. Drinks/spanish coffees too. The rooms are very old though (like 80s old) and buffet is the worst but hey, 3 star in Cuba. Staff is friendly and overall very accomodating. Common areas were always very clean. It was a good choice with our 2 year old. Best part was the dentist... he’s AMAZING.

Best vacation hotel ever

This is my second time going to this hotel. I didn't realize how large the hotel grounds were. Grounds were well kept. All staff were friendly. Beach was gorgeous with lots of room for guests. Market close by for shopping. Buffet food was good. Lots of good restaurants close by. I will be back again.

Beautiful Resort

We really love the beaches there. They are stunning. How each area has it's own unique things about them. Lots of coffee bars and snack bars. The food selection could've been better although what they served was okay. Our villa was awesome. A little dated but, kept clean. The cleaning service was great.
