Good for the price

We went with low expectations and they were met. We had an ocean view room in the hotel. The view was beautiful. The rooms are run down. The air conditioner struggled to cool the room and could not remove the humidity. As a result everything felt wet after a few days. The beach offered the best snorkelling we've seen in Cuba but not for a novice. We had to swim out 200-300 metres to the reef. The food was adequate. We always found something good to eat at all meals. We tried 2 a la cartes an [... read more]d they were good - lobster at both. We enjoyed the hotel but once was enough. We paid almost half of what we've paid at other resorts and felt we got our money's worth.

Excellent Resort

Excellent Resort, will be returning next year...hotel rooms are very small & old, really need a face lift....didn't enjoy a good night sleep due to the pillows wich was very hard & need to be a bit flat....the Villa is the best is the best way to go, lots of room.

Fantastic!

The resort was very friendly and clean! The staff were always pleasant and there was always enough to eat and drink. My only complaint if any was that when the stairs/your shoes were wet it was extremely slippery. Other than that we will be back! :)

Had a blast!!!

Just got back from the Brisas Guardalavaca and must say we had a fantastic holiday there ,we stayed in the villas they were spacious and beautifully kept, the people in this resort could not do enough for us and the Cuban people are so lovely to be around . I can see why people go back time and again we did too & will go back. The managment team was very appreciative and send us a nice gift for our returning visit! Fantastic beach, disappointing resort

The guardalavaca beach is one of the nicest I've seen in the Caribbean; shallow, calm, clean and clear. Free beach volleyball, paddle boats, kayaks and short hobbie cat rides available. The hotel is very shabby and tired. Our room had 10 things broken, including the AC and the sliding glass door. Ocean view rooms can be very noisy. The staff was usually friendly and tried their best to accommodating. The food often tasted better than it looked. The food in the restaurants was better than t [... read more]he buffet, Buccanero was our favourite. The bar near the buffet served the best drinks and filled our thermoses without hesitation. The churros were a fun afternoon snack if you can catch the guy cooking. Be ready to claim a beach chair with a towel at 6am. Very irritating since most chairs are "reserved" but go unused for much of the day. We would not return to Brisas Guardalavaca, even though we got a great deal. But we would give Cuba another try at a five star hotel and hope for and improved resort experience.

Thank you Michelle and her co-worker for recommending the Brisas. I have recommended our granddaughter to go there. We had a great time. Beach is outstanding, snorkeling in the facinity with one of their people was great. They did a good job on the entertainment side. Cuba has some amazing talent in singers, dancers and acrobatics. Better than any I have seen in Cuba to date. I enjoyed a smaller hotel as we could easily walk from beach to pool to lunch to our room. Note I have a bad hip so i [... read more]t worked great. Wheelchair ramps all over so they have accomodated handycaped. Staff were great. Food of okay not fantastic but in saying that for those of us who have cruised or stayed in 5 star hotels on other islands we have to consider the budget they are working with. For the money, the food was great and we didn't get sick which is a bonus. Also note, if you are into lobster you could have it at the al-a-cart restaurants which apparently is available year round. Chicken and fish was great so what more could we want. We went to the Holguin show from 5:00 to 1:00 in the morning. Tour of the city, dinner on the mountain top with a great entertainment crew of singers, violinists and acrobatics. From there we went to a night club opened for our bus group of 30 where we got a drink, cigar, half mickey of rum, a coke and a full out Cuban show. The owner treated us like guests in his home making us feel welcome. Provided a red rose to us for our 45th anniversary, a couple of drinks and thanked all of us, over and over for coming. It was a great way to see Holguin and spend our anniversary. To note a big crew of photographers hit the beach representing ABC, CNN, China news and others. They were hired to do a piece on Cuba. They interviewed us. I dread the day that Cuba is opened up. Our Canadian paradise will cease to exist as it is taken over by other countries coming in to monopolize on their amazing beaches and their friendly people. My recommendation is go while you can. I think we are putting cruising on hold and instead enjoying Cuban beaches while they are in our budget and not overrun. Thank you Michelle for making our 45th anniversary memorable. Judy

Lovely compact resort

My husband is handicapped and it was wonderful that there were elevators and, easy access to pool, beach, dining area, etc. Everything was close by. The beach is beautiful with lots of shade and is well maintained. The al a carte restaurants were superb with beautiful presentations and delicious food. We did not particularly like the buffet food but the al a carte restaurants made up for that. The staff were always pleasant and helpful.

Nice resort

We booked a mini villa suite as we like quiet places. We were given a room beside a small pool and I was concerned that it will be to noisy for our liking. I was wrong, all activities are at the main pool in front of the main building so we were OK. Food was excellent, always something for everybody .Rooms were dated but clean.A/C barely working but kept the room cold enough to have a decent sleep.One day I came back into the room to get something and I stepped in a pool of water:the A/C was lea [... read more]king water thru an air vent.I call the reception and by the time we returned from the beach the leak was fixed and the room cleaned (very efficient). We had a great vacation and for sure this resort will stay on our list .

Most amazing trip ever

This resort was very clean. The staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The food was really good. The A La Carte restaurants were really awesome, the food and entertainment was exceptional. We are definitely returning to this resort.

Nice resort

We stayed at this resort from april 29-may 6 2016, it was part of a family vacation and we did not have choice as to where we went. We stayed in the villa section. We have been to Cuba 6 x previous and only ever stayed at a 4.5* +. When I saw that this resort was rated a 3.5* I was very nervous not knowing what to expect, however both myself and my husband were pleasantly surprised. The resort was nice and it would not take much to elevate the star quality. The food is standard Cuba fare.The rooms are run down but clean, furniture old, curtains hanging off the windows, but like I said it is mostly cosmetic issues. Due to the late time of year that we went the villa section closed and as a result some of the services were not available to us, however it is a 3 minute walk to the main hotel. The havana Club rooftop bar is amazing. Drinks around the resort were very good, as was the churro and ice cream huts. The grounds were / are very well kept. The pools nice as was the beach, there was never any issue to get a chair or beach hut. We got a great deal to stay for a week at this resort and for the money it was great, that being said I would not pay more than 900$ but you could definately go for that if you are willing to wait.

What a great hotel,

The food was good all the grounds were clean and bathrooms. The pools where amazing. Could have had more music at pool bars all day. Beach was awesome. All the alicarts were very good. Rooms were always clean. People were all nice and helpful. Roberto the famous pizza man he was the best pizza maker. Fries were great too. All in all a great resort. We will go back next year.

Once again they treated us like Royalty!

This was my 8th time to this resort.....and they are ALWAYS special! They know us, they help us, this time it was for a wedding that went off without a hitch. Also I lost my son this past year and they did a beautiful painted rock to put in their garden for him! xo

Nice resort

This hotel is a nice place, the people are friendly. Food was good, room was clean and confortable. The a la carte restaurante were a lot better than the buffet; the entertainmento was also good. I would recommend this resort.

13 years and never disappointed

The people have always made the resort great food rooms good and beach is great. Ala cart restaurants have improved greatly and rum is always cold. Employees are eager to help out and fix any issues that happen. Stay in hotel and always accommodate all requests if possible

Wonderful Vacation

lovely resort excellent customer service, pride in their workmanship is very evident well maintained resort situated by a lovely and clean beach nice variety of food in the buffet for a stay of fourteen days no complaints plan to return

Love this resort

Loved this hotel. Proximity to the beach is amazing. Food was always tasty and plentiful. Staff very friendly and helpful. The rooms are dated but very clean. AC worked great. Tried several restaurants and had great service and food at all. Would stay again.

Great value for the money.

My wife and I have been to the Guardalavaca area 20 times but this is the first time at Brisas and we were not disappointed, we've always stayed at the resort next door. Everything was better, food, room with coffee maker, Ironing board, bed, beach the staff and the elevators worked all the time especially when you're on the top floor! We did two al-a carte restaurants and was very satisfied with the food quality and the service Next time we would not get a sea-view room as the entertainment is  [... read more]on that side and doesn't stop until 11 pm, so if you retire early it can be very noisy. Aside from that we had a great time and hope to go back next year.

Met our expectations and more

The resort is fairly small but we found this worked to our advantage. Everything you need is close by. The premises were very clean and well maintained. The rooms are not brand new (we stayed in the villa section) but they are spacious and clean. The villas are built with a flare of Italian villa witch I found charming. The garden is lush with greenery and is attentively tended every day. We were pleasantly surprised by the Tea Garden - a small terrace close to the beach where tea (and coffee) i [... read more]s served every afternoon between 4 and 6. The food was great: good diversity, fresh fish every day (and this is a big deal for us since we do not eat any meat), fresh fruit and decent try at fresh salads, the ice-cream - to die for! But what truly made it a great experience for us (family with 9-year-old daughter) was the staff: genuinely nice, friendly but not pushy, very discreet, very competent. This time we really tipped because we wanted to and because we felt well cared for and not because "this is how it's done".

Fantastic Vacation

We had another great vacation at Brisas. The food was excellent and everything surpassed our expectations. Everything from the grounds to the entertainment was super. This was our fourth trip there and it definitely won't be our last. Can't wait to go back.

Fantastic family getaway!

A beautiful hotel and friendly service. Pools and beach were perfect for our children. There were always lots of chairs by the beach and by the pool. The food was good, our children especially enjoyed the snack bar hotdogs, fries and pizza!
