Total Peace

We visited this hotel December 7-14 for our second time. We were there when Castro died and wanted to go back when things were fully operational. It was a perfect week. From check in and greeting to the moment of departure, we could not find one thing to complain about. We were so surprised to be invited to a returning guest dinner at the beach and enjoyed that thoroughly. Day after day of perfection. A beautiful performance followed in the lobby and it was wonderful! It will be difficult to go anywhere but PDRO in the future!

Still the best in service!

We had a wonderful week with beautiful weather, services! We were surprised 😮 as we expected the same kind of food at specialty restaurants that we had had, but we were very disapointed as other guests, the qualities of food and tastes were changed completely for worse. Very disappointing! 😩

First Class Resort in Cuba

Good variety of food in all restaurants, very large resort with well looked after grounds and security where their needed. Night time shows are quite entertaining. Pool area is fairly large and the water is warm. Beach area could use some more shaded straw umbrella's nearer the water sports activity center. Good snorkeling right at the beach as well as a sandy swimming area. Tipping isn't expected but it sure helps getting better service at the various bars and restaurants. If your a Canadian Rye Whiskey drinker bring your own with you and if you prefer Cuban Cristal Beer over Heineken you can purchase it at the Hotel's store in the lobby!

Amazing resort!

For my first time in Cuba, I couldn't have ask for a better experience - starting from the resort! The Paradisus Rio De Oro exceeded my expectations in so many ways. Paradisus Rio De Oro - ROYAL SERVICE

Well I cannot say enough about my stay at the Royal Service. Had not been on vacation in over 25yrs and Bev Johnson suggested the best. Had a 2nd floor apt just a walk away to a private beach with a bar and the ocean view room was unbelievable .My personal butler looked after me and arranged outings (just me) and made reservations at all the restaurants which were in both lobbys (food was the best I ever had since I am a Chef myself).At nite the music and entertainment was super where I me [... read more]t some great people from Canada,England,Germany and USA.It was nice that my stay at the Royal Service was nice and quiet and had a cart at my disposal to take me to both lobbys. I would not hesitate to return next year and was told I could have the same room and personal Butler. -

Look no further!

Beautiful resort, great staff, amazing beach with snorkeling and the food is fantastic. What more do you need? Almost every couple we spoke to were back for their 4th, 9th or 10th time. We fell in love on our first trip and we want think about going anywhere else.

Our stay at Paradisus Rio De Oro

Beautiful resort and would give it a 4.85 stars. The food was very good, with an excellent fish/seafood bar with a Chef and lots of vegetables. The a la carte Restaurants, are awesome. It is a no children resort, therefore a bonus for those who want to rest and drink. Beautiful pool. The entertainment was a step up from other resorts we have been in Cuba. The only only issue was with the airline "Sunwing" which I do not wish to ever fly again as they changed out flight at the last minute and to [... read more]p it with loosing luggages for 3 couples on our trip and made us wait 2 hours in the bus at the airport to try to locate lost luggages. I found out that West Jet and Air Transit also offers packages for this particular resort.

I enjoyed it

Overall experience was very good. Room was spacious and nicely done and clean. The food was good. The main thing I like in the buffet restaurant was the grill for lunch and dinner when you could select from the variety of fresh fish and meat which ones you'd like to be grilled for you. Best was on Wednesday because they had lobster as well. The rest of food selection was repetitive but good quality. For breakfast there was an omelette station. Interestingly enough there was one day when the quality of service and variety at the buffet was exceptional and I found out that the resort had some kind of big bosses visiting, so I started wondering that probably what I saw everyday was not the best that the resort could provide because I saw with my own eyes how it can be! The question is why not like that everyday? Drinks - I loved the drinks, great variety and excellent taste. Lorenzo at the pool bar makes the best pina colada's I ever tried! Lobby bar has great drinks and cappuccino. The beach is quite small and the beach beds are not good quality and the guard removed them everytime someone leaves and you need to ask everytime for them to put it up for you. No beach towels at the beach and you have to carry your own from the room and watch them like a hawk because if they are missing you will be paying 15 bucks for them. It was disappointing as other 5 stars I've been to had plenty of towels on the beach and you didn't have to worry about it. The section of the beach was rocky so getting in was a challenge but great snorkelling and there was a patch to get in with no rocks. Water sports stuff was great like kayaks, hobby cats, pedal boats. Pool was very nice and there was some entertainment by the pool. Evening shows were so so and lasted only an hour so from 10:30 pm it was just music playing from the speakers so not good for a younger crowd. The service was average. I would expect better from a 5 star and also don't like it when the service is so tip dependant. I would say the pool bar was great service and lobby was good but at the buffet to get a water or smth, you have to flash the money... Would I come here again, for the price I paid yes if it would be more expensive than no.

We could go back.......like NOW!

Wonderful experience! We enjoyed everything,beaches,pools,food etc.Our room it was always cleaned to perfection.Chek in,was easy and all the stuff very friendly.The resort is very clean and well maintained.

Cuban 5 star

my second time at this: Relaxed low impact Safe bet the royal service side is 5 star best or second best in all of Cuba in its category, which is: Couples Over 50 either in age or mindset not trying to be young again, but glad to peace in open spaces quiet places to read , talk, drink, sunbath, Eat excessively the non royal ide is a Cuban 4.5 at best but better suited to the Couples over 40 crowd there is a "Show" every night almost always over by 10:30 pm maybe a coup [... read more]le nights the night owls keep it going to Almost midnight (maybe / almost ) But this is what we the happy to embrace our years and wisdom crowd prefer Early to bed Early to rise Breakfasts are well attended from about 7:30 on dinner starts about 6:30 lunch starts about one hour after breakfast end and runs til about one hour before dinner you can have Espresso with Dinner or Aged Rum with crushed ice with Breakfast the over 50 crowd don't care what you do with your life because they have discovered how to live and embrace Their Own Life footnote: "Cuban 5 star" well is a 4 plus on western standards with an acceptance / tolerance of Fit and Finish issues with consistency of product in food and drink i ordered the same hamburger , with the exact same instructions about 15 times got about 10 different version of the the burger All very good though but different version each time mixed drinks the same result though my sample size was smaller i mostly drink Aged Rum or Vodka with Crushed Ice Ice Optional

Food Poisoning

We were greeted with a smile and a glass of champagne. It went down hill from here. We were one of five couples and we were told our room was not ready. As we were the only returning guests of the group I told the receptionist I was not pleased with this and she started to scream at me in Spanish. We were then told to go and get some food and the room would be ready in 15 minutes. We went and had something to eat and came back 30 minutes later and seated ourselves in the tram. After some more di [... read more]scussion with the bell hop he proceeded to take us on a tour of the royal service area and rooms wasting more time. After this he made a phone call and our room was now ready. The room was spacious and clean. On the third day of our trip I started to feel sick and this lead to diarrhea and vomiting. I stayed in bed for two days and then went to the medical center. The staff and Doctor at the medical center were very courteous. I was diagnosed with having food poisoning and was given an injection and two types of antibiotics. I started to feel better after getting home. This was an additional cost to me of 105 cuc after spending half of our trip in the room.

Amazing Resort & People!!

Food was really good, not spicy but fresh! Beach was rocky so a bit disappointing! Employees like all Cuban people were fabulous! Watch out for bank within the resort they took funds out of my account twice - Travellers beware!

Disappointed

The hotel room was great but for anyone with mobility issues the beach is inaccessible as well there was very little entertainment day or night . The vibe of the hotel was sleepy and even the entertainers appeared bored

Nice Resort

Nice Resort to relax. If going to Cuba this would be a good resort to pick. Food was fair to good. Beach was calm and nice. Rooms very spacious and clean. People were great. All in all good value for money.

Amazing resort and excellent service!

Rooms were clean and spacious, beautiful beach and plenty of chairs. Food was very good, excellent service overall! You can buy card to use internet. Connection was pretty good. Entertainment was very good.

3rd Time's A Charm (Why go anywhere else?)

My girlfriend and I returned to "our" resort for our third trip in two years from May 4th to May 11th and already can't wait to return. It is the one week every year that we feel we are truly relaxed and so totally spoiled. Being greeted at the front desk check-in with champagne and a cool wet towel is a nice touch every year. Our room in building 42 where we love to stay was spotless and well air conditioned and our balcony facing the lobby side lets us hear the nightly entertainment on the few [... read more] nights we don't venture up that way. Our bar fridge is always fully stocked with our favorite Crystal beer. Each year we have become friends with more and more of the most friendly staff anywhere. Even those who we briefly met last year remembered us which blows our minds as they must meet thousands of people per year. There was never a problem getting a drink at either the lobby bar or the pool bar where we tend to spend most of our time. Pizza at the poolside snackbar (La Laguna) is the best as we indulged pretty much every day for lunch. It is now open 24 hours which is an added bonus if you want a snack when the disco closes. Oh ..the disco... We spent almost every night at the disco after the nightly lobby entertainment ended. Our good friends DJ Oso (Osario) and Roli played the best tunes and filled our requests every night. The place was hopping. We have tried all of the a la cartes but this year chose only the Japanese and ElPatio (International). Both meals were delicious and the show table at the Japanese is always entertaining. As in the two years past we treat ourselves to a special dinner on the gazebo overlooking the ocean. We highly recommend anyone to try it if they haven't. The food is great and the service is spectacular with a view that you can't compare. We truly love Paradisus Rio De Oro and will never think of going anywhere else. Why would we risk the services and atmosphere somewhere else when we know that we get treated so good at PRDO? Also, certain staff members we now consider friends and some we consider family. For anyone who hasn't been there, please treat yourself and go. You will not be disappointed. We plan to return next May for another week in Paradise, our home away from home. Great resort

We were all very happy with the resort. It was beautiful, very clean, and easy to get to everything. The few problems we had were corrected Aimmediately and everyone was nice and helpful. We had power outages but that was out of their hands although they could have had emergency back up. The only problem was the food, it lacked variety and quality of the meals were lacking. This is a resort that we would like to return to.

Beautiful Beach!

I just returned from spending 9 days at Paradisus and it was a really good vacation. I went solo (in a resort of mostly couples) and never once felt unsafe as a single woman there. The average age of people staying here was about 45-55 (I'm 51), so although it's not the place to come for Spring Break or if you're looking to party all night, it's PERFECT for relaxing on the gorgeous beaches and getting pampered by the friendly staff!

Beautiful resort!

The grounds are beautifully maintained...congratulations to the groundskeepers. Would love a list of the plants/trees online so that I can check on ones we were interested in. Also, the bird population is varied and plentiful. Loved the presence of the three birds of prey...great idea! However, I was extremely surprised that we got a call from the service desk to see how I was feeling. Kudos! We would return once we are able, but would look to book at a cooler time of year. The staff were kind, pleasant and helpful. The Japanese restaurant is beautifully decorated. Can you please review the sauce, etc that is used, as it is overpowering - especially on the shrimp, which needs nothing more than butter and lemon. Too many mixed flavours. Separately I head this from others also. The beds were made each day...to perfection! We were highly recommended by Vaughan Wilcox, who is arriving there soon. I am sure there is lots more, that is mainly very positive.

A Great Resort

This was our first visit to this resort following a recommendation from our friends who had vacationed here three times. The grounds of the resort are large, well designed and landscaped and great for just taking a walk in the morning or late in the day. The beach is amazing and the rooms were nice and we had no complaints. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful and the buffet and specialty restaurants were enjoyable as was the food quality and choices. Evening entertainment was average but enjoyable to pass the time away relaxing with friends and having drinks around the lobby bar. We were quite happy to just stay within the resort for the duration of our one week visit. We would return again.
