Rundown Resort

This resort needs upgrades. Public bathrooms are few and not all work. When you go watch the entertainment no fun, can't drink too much because if you need to go to the bathroom have to walk so far or back to your room and even at that the bathroom takes 3 flushes to flush. When walking at night very few lights, hard to see when walking on pathways. Lobby chairs broke, rusted, falling apart. No comfortable seating anywhere. Bathrooms are very stinky and never any soap. Beds in rooms are done, ne [... read more]ed replacing, sleeping on springs. Rooms are very run down, bedding smelled very moldy, always felt like it was wet. Air conditioning did not work properly, would turn off and breaker would trip. Resort could really use some oversize ceiling fans in lobby, in theatre and the buffet fans were there but not even on, probably didn't work. Buffet understaffed. Service was great in lobby area, best drinks and coffee. Breakfast staff very happy for the omelet area.

Awful resort! don't waste your money! BAD MEMORIES

Dirty, filthy, moldy, gross unsafe unsanitary! Terrible resort. Staff and management do not not at all about guests! We asked to be moved another resort after our room got robbed management wouldn't approve it!

Good value for price

Overall the hotel was a fairly good value for the price. It was my first time to Cuba so I was not sure what to expect. The beaches and pools were great. The entertainment was fairly good, but a little repetitive in some of the night shows our week. The week after looked like it had more variety. The entertainment staff were very friendly. The buffet supposedly has theme nights, but seemed to serve similar sorts of food each night. For instance for oriental night there was not really any Chinese food like egg rolls, chicken balls, etc. and Mexican night did not have any tacos, enchiladas, etc. The rooms were a little dated. Some things to note… You pretty much have to put your towel on a chair at the pool/beach in the morning or you most likely are not getting one later. If you want peanut butter or pancake syrup, bring your own, they have none. They had ketchup, but not at all locations. It was hard finding spoons in some locations for some reason. Even serving spoons seemed to be in short supply. They had thongs out for dishing up mashed potatoes and other similar item which was an experience. You do not get tissues in your room. Bring toilet paper if you are going on excursions, you may not get any.

Would not return to this resort

The grounds were beautiful but they have deteriorated substantially year after year. Many of the staff hustle tourists to purchase cigars, to buy our clothes or even go give them everything we can. This is my 9th time in Cuba and never did staff ask, they gracefully receive. Management is care free Before it was this chain, management was very involved.

Was pretty good

Great beach for swimming. Snorkelling for lots of fish not far from shore. Lovely people eager to make your stay comfortable. Very close to the airport and close for day trips to Varadero and Havana. Hummingbirds. Fresh fish. Love the yucca.

Beautiful Resort

Beautiful grounds. Rooms are decent but a bit dated. The food was excellent with a huge variety to choose from. Very large resort which I thought was great because you can get some exercise in .There was a wait time for drinks and the lobby bartenders were grouchy , bring a bubba cup so you don't have to drink out of the small plastic cups . Other than the grouchy lobby bartenders the resort was wonderful!.

Beautiful resort

Despite bad publicity lately my sisters and I booked this resort. We were not disappoint red! Our room was clean and comfortable, beautiful, clean grounds, friendly staff, breathtaking beach and pool areas. The food wasn't always the greatest but we always managed to find something we liked. It's a huge resort so be prepared to do some walking. We'll worth what we paid and I would definitely not hesitate to go back!! :)

A beautiful spot

The staff was excellent, very friendly and happy to serve us. The common buildings were nice and well maintained. we had the honeymoon suite right on the water and it was spectacular. What a view !!! The night shows were fun and the parties were good.

Terrible Service

Phone in room was not working, toilet was broken, screen door missing for patio, rusted bars and stains on walls and tub, toilets throughout resort were out of commision. Cafeteria service was terrible, had to chase down employees that were to busy chatting together then to services patrons, they ran out plates, cups, napkins, coffee was from a vending type machine, tables were rarely cleaned between customers, No signs to indicate what the food was, it sits out for hours in the heat, no fresh v [... read more]egetables, many lights broken along paths, fitness room equipment broken, the resort ran out of dark rum and straws and mojito mix ?????

Fun time with our teenagers

Staff was helpful, grounds were clean, food was good, Japanese restaurant was great, beautiful beach, lots of chairs available around pool and beach, bar service was good, room was clean and large enough. Canadian exchange for money is terrible, could not get $1.00 for tips, Italian restaurant was terrible, had to wait well over an hour and a half, cost of a holiday in Cuba getting too high, was once affordable and not any longer,

Good resort for cost

Resort was fairly well maintained, very large. Always lots going on and a ton of different people made many friends. Biggest complain would be the house keeping service , we tipped and left gifts daily and never recieved a proper room cleaning. Hardly ever fresh towels she would fold our old wet ones up and put them back, and on the last day left us with only hand towels. The food was pretty decent we suck with mainly fresh cooked chicken breast and rice for dinner.

Ok resort

Hotel was nice, clean,grounds could use a little cleaning & tidying up. The food was good and lots of it. The biggest complaint meal time was if you were late going to breakfast you could not find a cereal bowl. You always had to ask for a spoon. The milk & yogourt was warm should have been on ice. Bit of a disappointment really...

My wife and I, along with another couple, stayed at Memories Varadero from March 5th - 12th, 2016. We arrived just after 3 pm so we missed the buffet that day and had to eat lunch at the pool snack bar... Worst burger ever!! It wasn't cooked properly, pretty sure the meat wasn't 100% beef and I bit into 3 small bones nearly breaking a tooth!! It's quite a large resort but only 1 buffet which made mealtime a bit of a zoo. The food was okay for the first few days but they really didn't have a grea [... read more]t deal of variety. We quickly got tired of the same type of food every day. The beach was great and we had no trouble finding beach loungers under the shade huts. The main "party" pool was fun and the waterslide was great! It did get crowded at times and the atmosphere was totally ruined one day when about 100 university students from Nova Scotia on spring break arrived early and started drinking to the point that one guy threw up and passed out by the pool at 11 in the morning!! Our rooms were okay but kind of run down and the bathrooms need major upgrading. The grounds were not kept up as well as most other resorts we have been to such as Hotel Bella Costa in Varadero and several in Punta Cana, such as IFA, Princess Punta Cana and Gran Bahia Principe. Overall, this resort was a disappointment compared to other resorts we have stayed at and we wouldn't choose it again.

Worst vacation ever

Hotel was way to big. Rooms were dirty and bathroom flooded. Beds were so uncomfortable. Food was gross. Every time you walked up to the bars to get a drink all you could smell was throw up and poop. Waste of money

Memories

We tried to book our al a'carte the first day we arrived and we were only able to get one. On the fourth day at the buffet they ran out of red wine. The same night they ran out of white and red wine at the lobby bars. There were too many people for the facilities. The jeep safari was the best part of the trip.

Great Resort for families with Teenagers

With the resort being so large, it was ideal for my kids who are 16 and 18. We stayed at the quiet pool and they went to the activitiy pool. There was so many activities going on, that they were never bored.

Staff are great but stay away!

This resort needs a lot of work! First and foremost, the food was terrible. I likened it t when I was in boarding school, the food was better there. The room was clean but run down. Old mattresses, patio door and more importantly the screen did not close properly, bathroom where towel racks, safety handles etc were dangerously loose. I was told that this was a smaller resort (small with over 100 rooms?) golf cart transportation was only available when people were checking in or out, sporadic at  [... read more]best.With more than 2000 people, mealtimes at the buffet were a free for all, people grabbing food items, plates, etc. Very disconcerting first thing in the morning.

Feb 12-19 2016 - Fun & Safe

We went Feb 12-19 - Building # 40, which is centrally located on the Resort. The Buildings & Room are typical, just like any other Cuban Resort I stayed at. Our Maid was sweet. She kept the room Clean & Tidy. As long as the Rooms are clean, don't focus on the little stuff. The Beach was great. Lots of Chairs. Volley Ball, Fitness, Music, Bar & Food. The other Pool was very quiet. Pool Chairs - get up early & place your towel to save your spot. Food: Good, never got sick, cause we know what to eat. Also we brought our own Syrup & Peanut Butter, Snacks, Juice Packs. Diet: Breakfast - Fried Eggs, Pancakes, Sausage, Fruit. Lunch at the Pools: Spaghetti, French Fries, Shopsy Hot Dogs. Supper: Deep Fried Fish or Chicken(tasty coating), Rice 2 kinds, Pizza, Pasta, Deserts. Drinks very safe & plenty available. Grounds - lots of trees, flower bushes, it was very nice. Nightly music was pretty good. One night there was a Band that sang Rock, he was awesome. No Bugs. This is my 4th time to Cuba. People have to remember your not Staying in a New Holiday Inn. All Resorts are pretty much the same. Just don't look at the small repairs - enjoy the sun & the water & the people.

Beautiful Resort

Everything was as expected.Had a couple small problems when we arrived but resolved quickly.The location of our room was at the beach end which we had asked for. .a bit from the main lobby but we managed to get the golf cart when needed to get there..The lights on the pathways need to be repaired..so dark at night.our room was good and had a wonderful maid.. the lobby bathrooms were always clean and always had tissue and hand towels.

Good resort...needs some upgrades!

People were amazing & Leo from Diamond Club very helpful & accomodating. Food ok but who goes to Cuba for food. Beach was amazing...blue green crystal clear. Jeep excursion well worth the money! Jam packed day & a lot for your buck! Catamaran loads of fun & nice lobster lunch on a beautiful private beach!
