Better than we expected!

It was our first visit of this country and many people (our friends, reviews on websites) said, don't expect any luxurious hotels, clean rooms, good food, nice staff etc... So we were a little bit sceptic before we went there. But now after we came back, I have to say we were pleasantly surprised. Laguna Azul is really nice resort, with nice, smiling and helpful staff. Food was really good and there were lots of variants, so everybody can choose to eat, what he really like and doesn't matter if it was breakfast, lunch or dinner. I have just one night food poison, this was after dinner in Italian restaurant a la carte. These two guys on the morning shift in lobby bar were so funny and they did nice tricks when they prepared drinks for guest, so this was our first way in the morning there :) Animators were also really good, aspiring and making fun. Beach was beautiful, not crowded and no line up on beach bar. Plus you can go for a long walk on the beach to the one side or the other. Our best part of this vacation was probably catamaran trip on the small lovely island and during this trip we stop for snorkeling but above all, we could swim with dolphins, which was our best experience at all! We really enjoy one week at this resort and we would definitely recommend it to all of our friends and everyone who want to go to Cuba Varadero. Hopefully we'll be back soon. Thank you Laguna Azul.

Good but could be better

The hotel is really nice, one of the best in cuba but it falls short in a couple areas that could easily be fixed. The biggest issue we had was the pool is freezing. No one was in it, all week. When asked by a staff why we weren't in the pool we told them the water was too cold and they laughed and continued on. The food is cuba food, nothing exciting we lived on the pizza, pasta and fry diet all week. We were travelling with an infant and asked multiple times for a kettle. Like other reviews sa [... read more]id if you are asking for anything from the front desk it is a waste of time, we never received the kettle. The staff are great at this resort and really make it. Just watch where you step there are holes drilled in the concrete throughout the resort for what looked like umbrella bases but they are big and deep in tile and could easily cut someone. Overall nice resort and but simple things could make it great. We have been to cuba 6 times so have reasonable expectations.

Amazing resort!

The hotel is awesome. It has good a la carte restaurants, and a huge array of food at the buffet location. Great entertainment and a large variety of activities available! It is kept impeccably clean. The grounds are fabulously maintained. The staff are friendly, helpful, and very professional. The Guest Service staff are incredible. They will help out with any problem you may have, and make excellent recommendations for touring the area.

A Paradise Palace Resort

I would highly recommend Iberostar Laguna Azula Resort & Spa. The grounds at this resort are meticulously groomed. There are a variety of pools catering to all age groups. The service was excellent & the staff was very personable, helpful, polite, and most entertaining with there laughter & jokes. The buffets were also excellent. The food was excellent. The evening entertainment was also most enjoyable at the theatre. This resort has an awesome beach which you can go for long walks. Our room was very clean and the staff was very caring & genuinely sincere.The resort is very safe for tourists. Terrific Experience ! A home away from home.

Wonderful Trip!

The resort was great and lead to an incredible beach. The staff was very friendly and the rooms and resort were kept clean. The food definitely met our expectations! It was also very convenient that there was a bus stop just a short walk from the entrance of the resort. The only thing we did not enjoy was smoking in most areas.

Great Resort

- Very clean - Huge resort, but everything is really in close proximity - Internet connection was acceptable - Vacationed to more than 12 resorts in Cuba including Cayo Coco, Cayo Santa Maria, Holguin, Santa Lucia and Varadero. This resort was much superior in terms of quality of food. Loved this Resort

Resort was beautiful, well kept and clean. The food was awesome. The buffet lacked signage to tell you what the food was and the public washrooms could use a little TLC. There was no lack of food options. No complaints

Amazing resort

Had the best time food was pretty good and staff was very friendly will come back the only thing I didn't like they kept on running out of mint for mojitos and took half a day to restock but other then that perfect resort

Will not be Returning

We were at this resort from December 27th 2018 to January 3rd 2019. Beach was beautiful, staff were friendly and overall we had a great trip. However since coming home 3 out of the 4 of us who went on this trip have all been very sick. We have all gone to doctors and been diagnosed with gut infections, parasites and Salmonella and are now all on antibiotics. Due to this we do not reccomend this resort and we will not be returning. Better sanitary measures need to be taken with food and the all r [... read more]estaurants and buffet should be serving bottled water only.

An ok resort

It is clear that this resort was a beauty ,when new,but naw it looks and feels very neglected,wich is a pity.Graunds are amasing,clean well kept,beautifully desined,beach second to none,rooms a dated and furniture is broken,but bathrooms are very large and comfy,food was very bad at the beginning,improved by the end of our stay,housecleaning not good at all,had to fight for clean towels every day,staff is friendly trying to please.overall good vocation for the money ,also weather was amasing the [... read more] whole time,that helped.but will look for something different next time.

Nice resort

The resort was nice. Very astetically pleasing. The food was not all that good, for a 4.5 star. The Japanese restaurant was by far the best. The beach was beautiful, the pool area was also great! Overall good resort but for the money a little over priced as we went in January

Amazing day at Iberastart Laguna Azul

Laguna Azul is Amazing hotel. The service is fantastic. The food and drinks are great. The installations are always clean. The night shows are beautiful. The people are incredible, they always have a positive actitud and are trendily. My family and Me had a really good time. Actually, my soon asked us to stay there more days, but we couldn’t. Average Resort

I did not have high expectations going in when we booked our vacation at the Iberostar Laguna Azul. The hotels need renovations. In our room, the shower head barley worked, we had to use the tub to wash off. The flow of the bathroom sink was also very low. We went with a group of 8 people, 2 out of the 4 rooms were better in terms of shower heads. The beds were comfortable enough to sleep. The food was average but that is to be expected with all inclusive resorts. I highly recommend if you choosing this location to take advantage of these dinners. The beech and pool areas were beautiful! We spent most of, if not all our vacation on the beach. Not far from the shoreline there were little reefs that if you have goggles you could see tropical fish. We did not do any of the excursions as half of our group go ill but did hear good things. If you are going to travel in Cuba it might be wise to take Dukoral to try and avoid getting ill. Overall the experience was ok/average. I don't think I would go back but there were several people when we were leaving that adore the place.

Not worth the money.

Pools - 3 of them, one of which has a pool bar. They are good and clean. Decent amount of space for everyone and good service at all of them. The issue I had with them was the depth. 1.10m is the deepest they ever go. I just can’t enjoy pool swimming like that. Staff About 70% of them were nice and friendly. Restaurants/Food  [... read more] Now I really enjoyed the food in Cuba my first time there (at a different resort). This one had rather bland food. Very amateur and unseasoned food. But well, it was eatable and there were much worst things than food. The restaurants for example. First of all it took HOURS to get reservations at the restos. No kidding, we had to stand in line, while ONE FREAKING WOMAN, with a computer took 15-20mins per person/groups. And she was miserable, unfriendly, and slow. Now the restos themselves, require you to have a reservation to get in, which makes sense if they were full. But there were 5 empty tables beside us and I asked; even if half the place was empty, they would not have let us in if we didn’t have a dumbass reservation. Amenities Alright, now the juicy stuff. This place claims to be a 4.5 sometimes 5 star Resort. MY F#$&*&G A$$! The bathrooms stalls had no lock on them, the eating areas had very uncomfortable chairs and our room was just a total disaster. The safe did not work, the shower head had no hanging nozzle, the balcony door handle was broken, the fan knob was broken and the bed sheets were damp. We requested to change rooms and while the manager told us it was a done deal and to come bAck the next day to confirm the change, we came back and were told we weren’t on the list. So we had to wait another day to change. The next room was fine but with one major problem: the door. The mechanism for cards was broken or something and we could never get in. We always had to go back to reception and call a mechanic to come fix the thing and let us in. And by the way, each time, they were doing some half assed bullshit on the door instead if actually fixing it which is why the fix was temporary and we always had to go back to call them again. Absolutely ridiculous. Beach/bar Excellent. Fantastic sea, sand and sun. Short walk from resort centre. Beach bar was great. Bar tenders around the whole resort were great. This is my first time writing a review because I felt I owed it to other travelers. We paid 2k and this just wasn’t worth it. In no way is this a 4.5 star let alone 5. And don’t give me any bs about it being cuba and their rating being lower than anywhere else. If that’s the case, 1, dont pretend to be 4.5 stars when you’re no better than a 3. And 2, dont charge people like you’re a luxury resort when the experience you provide feels more like average. There.

Beautiful Resort.........

Beautiful resort but the food was terrible, dirty and unsafe. My girlfriend got food poising. Beaches were very nice and pool was very clean. Rooms left something to be desired but were not bad. Safe had no door, room key often didn't work had to change out 3 times. Atmosphere very nice.

Excellent staff, would make a return trip

We vacationed to this hotel over the Christmas break. The staff made a very conscious effort to ensure we were taken care of in every aspect. The only issue that we had was during our visit, the weather was a little o the cool side and were disappointed that neither of the he jacuzzi's were in operation.

Nice resort with good pool and great beach

The resort is clean ,food is good and great service. The pool is fun with lots of activities and of course the fabulous beach . For a change the food is pretty good. Most of the restaurants are ok and one should try them all. We loved hanging at the beach and bars ,where the service is excellent. The rooms are a bit run down but on request they moved us to a better one

Enjoyable stay!

The resort was good. The beach great! The food was fine (really liked the Gourmet restaurant). My friends and I enjoyed the nightly entertainment at the disco. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Overall, it was a great relaxing vacation.

Iberostar Holguin: Great resort in development

1) Grounds are flat with very freshly planted palms trees. You can see all resort from one place. 2) Public areas are great, nice design, soft, pleasant sofas, quiet music, caffe bar, drink bar, smoking area, all perfect! Very nice cigar bar with nice conditioning and selection of cigars. Main theatre is great. Disco-bar with high quality sound and light gears, music is your choice! Just ask DJ! 3) My room was very nice and king-bed was perfect, all new bath very pleasant. Safe, umbrellas, iro [... read more]n. Two bath robes and slippers! Nice balcony to smoke a cigar after long day! WiFi in the room, and all grounds, not only lobby! (you need to buy 1CUC/h card in the lobby). 4) The beach is in development as Dec 24, 2018. Most people go to Pesquero for Aquatic activities, most with kids. The shuttle is provided. But..,it is minus.. For me and my wife who is allergic to sea water it was not an issue!!! We enjoyed pools, very clean and nicely positioned. Great pool bar! A barmen is virtuoso! 5) I very pleased by attention of the management to clients needs, we required special food for my allergic wife and all stuff in food service was on alert, very personally!! Great Resort

Very nice facility. Well designed with every suite near the main pool and close to the restaurants. The buffet food is good and the fare at the a la restaurants is excellent. The grounds are well groomed and the rooms and common areas show no signs of deferred maintenance. As expected, the beach is terrific and the facility has all the amenities you expect at a beach resort. The staff is very friendly and efficient. RWM
