Buenaventura Grand Hotel and Great Moments: PV 2025

The Buenaventura Grand Hotel is located just minutes from the Malecon in a safe area in Puerto Vallarta. We have stayed at this hotel 4 times and like its location. The hotel staff are very friendly and courteous. We have looked at other hotels in PV but we seem to always come back to the BG hotel. There is so much to do in the area from site seeking to some very scenic hikes along the Bahía de Banderas shore line to some private beaches. Don't forget to visit The Palm Cabaret and Bar and see a show, our favourite was Miss Conception’s 25th Silver Anniversary Spectacular. Tammy from Tripcentral took care of all our travel needs.

Dreams Bahia Mita Surf and Spa: Thoughts on Secrets Punta Mita

The grounds of the property were lovely. Great dining options and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, we were not made aware that Dreams and Secrets were physically attached, so we were disappointed to discover that a lot of the pools and restaurants had many families with children using them even though we thought we were in an adults only resort. The beach was also a big disappointment. I would not recommend this as an adult only resort.

Fiesta Americana Riviera Nayarit: Puerto Vallarta Return Trip

Spent a week in PV after not being there in 20yrs. The bus transfer went smoothly and the staff and driver were excellent. Our arrival at the hotel went seem less with the valets and the check in staff. Our ocean view room with a jacuzzi tub was clean and well equipped. The bed and linens were comfortable and clean every day. The A La Carte restaurants were all fantastic and the wine flowed freely. The buffet and staff were very good and the selection was excellent. We did however have some bad  [... read more]timing with some outdoor renovations and a few days of jackhammering. We did not spend as much time in the pools as we normally would as the water temperature was pretty chilly for most of the guests. Kevin at Trip Central said it was a solid 4 star property and we would completely agree. Just a heads up if you’re looking to party and play games around the pool, this is not the place to book. We were there to take in the sunshine and enjoy the beautiful sunsets and it definitely happened. Worth the money and worth the time!

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Lovely getaway!

This resort has 6 buildings along the beach with a pool beside each building. The rooms are clean and well kept as are the grounds and public areas. The food is very good with many choices of buffet or a la carte. The staff are friendly and helpful. Next year I'm going back for a longer stay, can't wait!

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Very nice resort

This was our 4 stay at this resort. Resort is a little dated but kept very clean. The food selection is very good, you can always find something to eat at one of the two buffets or many snack bars. We were able to visit all five restaurants and found the food to be good at them also. The staff was very friendly and always acknowledging you even as you walked through the resort. Good value for money we spent. Couple of things I think could use changed are. The bikes, they are old and have not  [... read more]seen maintenance probably since they arrived. The second thing that needs to be addressed is the pool and beach chair reserving. We will be returning soon.

Paradise Village Puerto Vallarta: 5 Stars Plus !!!

Everything from the Food/Drinks,the Beach and the unbelievable staff made this Resort the best we have ever had.. Spotless every where you looked, washrooms and all restaurants were so clean at all times. Rooms were cleaned in a timely fashion and all the hot water you will ever need at all times.

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: My favourite resort

I have stayed at this resort many times - my all time favourite. I was worried that with the sale of the resort to the Wyndham group that it would change the true Mexican flavour - but if anything, it has changed very little. The entire staff goes to the extreme to guarantee your stay is exceptional. Thank you to the entire staff.

Hacienda Buenaventura Hotel and Mexican Charm: Old/new balance

Hacienda , a mature hotel, is a mixture of old school charm that has successfully bridged the old and the new by anticipating the guests needs very well. From the music they play at breakfast, mellow and classical to more lively in the evening, to the wide variety of dishes they serve. The night was MC’d by a songstress with a fabulous voice. They also serve traditional Mexican food from different states which is delicious. The hotel staff were professional , polite and went the extra mile to accommodate guests. We enjoyed our first stay so much, we came back the next year. We would highly recommend this hotel.

Decameron Los Cocos Guayabitos Ramada: Awesome stay

Hotel is slightly dated but very clean and lovely. The staff are incredible! We found the buffet food to be excellent and varied. Only one a la carte due to renovations however it was easy to get a reservation and the food was very good. Gorgeous beach!! Overall we loved this place

Hacienda Buenaventura Hotel and Mexican Charm: Awesome stay!!!

Had a great vacation and stay at the Hacienda Buenaventura!!! The authentic colonial style mexican hotel was perfect......friendly staff, clean and well maintained rooms, warm showers when needed and toilet worked fine!! Flower gardens and pool were immaculate....well done Jaime.....crystal clear water and heated to 88 degrees F.....perfect!!! Bartender and pool waiter kept us well hydrated and the snack bar cook kept us fed during the pool day....your BBQ ribs are to die for!!!! Had a slight [... read more] problem with the tv sound in the room but Nery, the receptionist had a repairman at our door before WE could get back......Awesome....very impressed!! Dining room staff were polite and accomodating and Pauline and America were very kind and pleasant dining room greeters!!! Food was great and varied, and proper food handling performed by staff and guests!! The only thing I think they could do better is entertainment every day instead of every second day and even though the Spanish dancers and singers were great maybe some English speaking entertainment, just for familiarity , and some organized pool entertainment!! Other than that ........ spectacular!!!!!!!! Very affordable and would definitely go back to our knew friends!!!! And will miss my Mexican Coffee in the morning without all their smiles!!!!

Fiesta Americana Riviera Nayarit: Wyndham Alltra Vallarta

We spent 2 weeks at the Alltra, We did book the Clubroom Junior Suite Ocean View King on the 6th floor, the view was great could see for miles, The room was large very good bed and quiet, the A/C worked good, The club is worth booking as they have hot meals 3 times daily and great salads, coffee and all drinks , and bottled water whenever you wanted, also you can book the restaurants with the concierge on the 7th floor, and check in and check out without ever having to line up. The food at the  [... read more]resort was great , drinks were good ,Dos Equis beer on tap, The staff and service was amazing everyone working at the resort seemed happy. We did have a few minor problems with the room the first day and the maintenance department were on it within minutes. Bars and Paradise Mall is within walking distance and if not Uber or taxi is a short wait. Pools are good and good shade from the trees and the south side of the Condo buildings on the property, beach is quite large. The Sunset and Lobby bar do need to have more seating as it is couches in the lobby for now, but I think this will change as most customers let there concerns known in a meet and greet optional meeting. We did tour neighboring resorts and for the price point the Alltra is good.

Melia Puerto Vallarta: Just okay

Grounds were nice. Rooms are very outdated, pictures online are not what you're getting. Need more food options, buffet was the same thing on repeat and only 2 other restaurants. Expected more. Area was nice, short walk to the marina.

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Awesome location

Beautiful grounds, excellent pools. Rooms are "tired" but clean. Food needs improvement, most items seam recycled, and all lacking flavour. Even the specialty restaurants, are lacking. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Frustrated by signs all over stating no reserving pool side loungers, yet all have towels, bags, etc on them by 8am, and folks often don't show up to use them for 3 or 4 hours.

Sheraton Buganvilias Puerto Vallarta Hotel: Lovely Hotel

This was a lovely location and hotel. The staff were excellent! Service was great! Food we loved. We only did one ali carte as we enjoyed the food at the pool (ordering from a menu) as well as the dining room. Mexican night on Thursday nights was fabulous! For improvement: More entertainment would be appreciated. Also the lobby bar could use some improvement. The music that they play is far from welcoming or relaxing. Not inviting at all. I would of liked more calm relaxing music. The [... read more] decor could use lift to make it more inviting. The staff at the bar were good, service was good. Just not a place to relax and visit over a nice drink. Music way to loud and not relaxing! I gave the beach/pool a 4 for the pool, the beach is rocking would only be a 2 to me. Lovely listening to the ocean though.

Decameron Isla Coral: Basic but Satisfactory

We are from Canada and booked this resort very last minute (just a week before we left) for our “babymoon.” We paid $2,200 each for the week which was a bit pricey for what you get, but maybe you can find cheaper pricing if you book far enough in advance. I would say this resort is probably worth spending around $1,800 for the week. The hotel is about an hour and a half ride on the bus from the airport in PVR and is mostly on a windy road. We were torn between which of the three resorts to choose from, and I’m glad we went with Isla Coral as it was the smallest resort and the beach area was the quietest. The Marina had the exact same layout. Los Cocos seems to be a different style/layout but is not on the beach (you have to walk across the street). Arrival: We didn’t realize that there was a time change from Puerto Vallarta - the time is an hour behind. Not a huge deal but good to know! Most of the staff don’t speak English, so there is a language barrier. We got checked in but nothing was explained to us. We were simply provided our ID, got our room keys and a brochure and were left to our own devices. Food: We checked out the buffets at all 3 locations and everything was the same. The only difference between the food at the different resorts (aside from the speciality restaurants) was that Los Cocos had an official snack bar - but you can get the same burgers etc at the buffets. Buffets were good, but pretty basic. The food was good quality and we didn’t get sick, it was just repetitive. We did have two Mexican themed nights which were the best. We tried to get into the steakhouse speciality restaurant but it seemed to be closed everyday. We now think that it was only opened on Fridays, maybe Saturdays? The problems were that 1) we weren’t advised at check in of the dates the speciality restaurants were open - it seems they weren’t all open everyday 2) you have to go to the front desk at 9am in the morning to reserve a speciality restaurant, which we weren’t told about. We just got lucky one day when I went to ask about the restaurant booking procedure as the Marina was open that evening and still had a spot open for the evening and they let us book it. We aren’t big seafood fans, so we only ended up trying one speciality restaurant at the Marina called the El Dorado (Mediterranean), which was decent enough. You get access to an app where you are supposed to be able to book the seafood restaurant at Los Isla but it didn’t work for us. I would venture out for some food as the buffet gets repetitive and boring. Also, the drip coffee at the buffet was pretty weak, and there is a cappuccino machine hiding in the back of the speciality restaurant area but was pretty nasty tasting coffee. Here are some off resort recommendations, all within 10 minutes walking distance from the resort: #1 Juan's Place - actually so good. You must go here. On the beach. Cash only. #2 Tonita - right beside the resort on the beach. Most authentic Mexican restaurant and also the guac is the best we’ve ever had. Cash only. #3 The Albatross - decent food, we had steak and salmon. It’s not a must go, but it’s another nice location on the beach. They accept credit cards. Coffee: #1 Cafe Nay - about 5 minutes from the resort. Great coffee. They accept credit cards. They aren’t consistently open though so check the hours on google. #2 - Coffee House - about a 10 minute walk from the resort. You have to cross the highway by the gas station. This is a modern/Mexican chain. Coffee is good and they also have sandwiches and pastries etc. They accept credit cards. There is also a convenience store a few steps away from the hotel for snacks/coffee etc. Rooms: You are technically getting an ocean view room, but the balconies are all facing the pool side so it’s noisy/uncomfortable sitting on your balcony because you don’t have any real privacy - we unfortunately didn’t use our balcony as a result. I’m not sure how you score the few rooms that are actually directly facing the ocean, but it may just be luck of the draw. Rooms are very basic. Beds and pillows are rock hard. I would suggest bringing your own pillow if you can (I slept with my airplane pillow). Sheets/linens are nice, although very thin - but it was hot so didn’t need anything more. We didn’t have face cloths on the first day but then they consistently brought us fresh ones everyday which was nice. They also provided us with fresh towels everyday, and one day when we needed extras we went to the front desk and they gave us some more no problem. It was also hit or miss when we would get a shower mat (hence we needed more towels). They have a mini split in the room so you can control the air conditioning which is great. They supply you with a big 1L of bottled water everyday, and you can ask the front desk if you need more. They also have a water cooler in the buffet area to fill up your water if needed. Beach/Pool: As all the reviews reflect, the beach is amazing and the resort is on the beach. It’s really nice because it’s easy to run back and forth to your hotel room. There was never an issue getting a chair on the beach, no matter what the time was. For some reason it was a common occurrence for many different groups of people to be blaring their own music which was frustrating when trying to relax/read. The buskers were very consistent on the beach and a bit annoying when you were trying to relax but they were nice and typically left when you said no without further pushing. The pool was decent, and even though it was shaded during the day, it was nice to escape the heat and go into for a quick cool down. In terms of the pool towels, do not panic about bringing your towel back before 6pm. You can just keep it in your room and exchange for a new towel whenever you would like. You can also exchange for your pool towel card at any point. We just turned in our towels at check out instead of our pool towel cards and we didn’t have any issues. Other: 1. There were bathrooms pool side/beside the buffet and a few steps up from the beach was great 2. We found the resort to be clean 4. Cash - this may be new, but US cash is not really accepted (we read that US cash was widely accepted in Puerto Vallarta area and because we booked last minute, we didn’t have time to get Pesos). The resort will only exchange Canadian currency and there are no banks within walking distance. 5. Market - there is a local market right by the resort on Monday. The town is also really close by and has lots of shops to explore. 6. The resort isn’t filled with your typical North American crowd. You have a lot of different cultures and locals which to us was a nice change. Overall, we enjoyed our stay although this resort wouldn’t have been a typical choice for us.

Tropicana Hotel: Loved the Tropicana!

The Tropicana is located in the Romantic Zone, amid the cobblestone streets and directly on the beach. The rooms all have a balcony overlooking the grounds and the beach. The room is large and spotless; housekeeping cleans it and replaces the towels daily. The tv has Canadian, American and Spanish stations. The restaurant is clean with very attentive wait staff. We had breakfast included in our fee but it wasn’t a great idea because there was little choice. We basically ate the same thing every  [... read more]day. No matter, the hotel is close to literally hundreds of restaurants. The hotel had two lovely pools but not a lot of room around them for chairs. People lined up before 9 when the chairs were put out and threw their towels on them to reserve them and sometimes didn’t come back for hours. Although this is against the hotel rules, they didn’t enforce it. Before 8 am, people lined up to get the best chairs on the beach. No matter though as the staff brought out as many as needed, and they were under regular or palm umbrellas. The scenery and sunsets from our balcony were spectacular. I really loved this hotel and Puerto Vallarta, and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. I should mention also that it is evident that PV is very gay friendly. I was happy to see our lgbt+ brothers and sisters enjoy themselves in a beautiful, safe place where they are catered to.

We have been going to Buenaventura for 20 years, we love the staff, the location and the vibe from this resort Each year we go and meet up with our many friends and reconnect and explore what new updates the resort has completed, each time we go there is always something new A concern from this trip was the food choices at the Buffet and the one and only a la carte restaurant Breakfast at the Buffet was delicious although it was noticed that the fruit selection was limited and the bacon wa [... read more]s hit or miss The hotel needs to embrace the coffee and tea drinkers of todays generation I had to go searching each day for a cup of tea Why don’t you set up a coffee bistro The menus have changed at the sunset restaurant since the last time we were there they eliminated the soup and salad bar at lunch and several of the staples , the club house sandwich the shrimp screwers We actually didn’t go to for dinner because there wasn’t anything that interested us on the menu several other guests said they were disappointed as well Our room was perfect and always clean One negative regarding the pool side The hotel needs to purchase more chairs and umbrellas The solution of “the pool cop” isn’t working People weren’t allowed to be away from their lounger for more then 15 mins or your stuff was removed We had to stagger our time away or notify that we would be going to breakfast where we were told we had 20 mins Not a relaxing trip Other then that we had a great time as always

Costa Sur Resort and Spa: Quiet location

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Costa Sur. Yes the property is dated but location is superb and clean. They are working on renovating! We had a suite on the 8th floor and views of whales and the sound of crashing waves could not be beat. This is the quietest resort we have ever enjoyed in the PV area. Bed was comfy and room was cleaned spotlessly every day by Yanet. Bathroom was large and shower worked well. Kitchenette came in handy for snacks. Daily bottled water would have been nice however [... read more] we had no problem buying a big jug at the mini market in the lobby. Loved that we could hop on the local bus for 10 pesos to go into town (10 minutes) and explored Mismaloya and Boca de Tomatlan (20-30 minutes). Lots of great restaurants not far away. The Cascada restaurant on site was good and we had great service from Rafael, Mauricio and many others. Staff are simply wonderful! Only suggestion would be to have gluten free bread and buns available for those who need them. Staff were good at accomodating gluten free requests otherwise. We loved being able to swim on the beach in the sheltered lagoon. Only thing missing was a walkable beach. Note that when tides are high the beach is closed off. This happened one day of our stay.

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Not What it Once Was

The grounds are very well kept. The rooms...you get what you pay for. The food is hit or miss. There is no pool side service, the beach bartenders are disinterested at best, the a la carts have become very difficult to book, and this is also the first time I've ever seen a cockroach scurrying under the lounge chairs by the pools.

Decameron Los Cocos Guayabitos Ramada: Friendly

It's a colorful place, I hope it stays that way once the renovation is completed. Beach is nice, food is good, atmosphere is friendly. Place is kept spotlessly clean. A bit noisy at times. Can get crowded on weekends.
