Great resort!

Grounds: beautiful and well kept Public Areas: clean, tidy and well maintained Entertainment: was okay, best night was International Dance night. Rooms: were clean and well maintained. Our room did smell musty though. Dining: Buffet - food was good, always found something to eat. The 24 hr snack bar had great chicken fingers, the a la cartes - Italian and Asian were really good. So friendly and everyone always said hi to you from the gardeners, maintenance staff, dining, front desk, bell boys, etc. Beach: the beach has a climb down to get to it but is manageable and we had small kids with us. The beach is not a wide beach. However, the water is the cleanest I've seen with no rocks or coral or seaweed just white sand under your feet. We spent every day at the beach it was that great.

Nice Resort

The resort grounds was well kept. Rooms were clean and all the staff were really friendly. The food was really good but the buffet kind of got repetitious. Some of the night time shows were less than desirable but the taste drinks made up for it. One of the downsides of this resort was that where was no market or vendors on site.

Excellent hotel - lots of activity

The grounds are very well kept and enjoyable just to walk around. The beach is very close with a bar and grill and the view is spectacular. There are many pools to use and generally lots of chairs available. The food was good but got a little repetitious after a few days. The staff was more than helpful and English was not a problem.

Not good

This resort had no frozen drinks, beach was terrible, beds were very hard, most food was terrible and we suffered stomach pain for a few days as a result. Service was good and most staff was friendly.... not impressed with the entertainment either.... would not go again

My stay in Cuba

The Playo Cayo was a very nice resort, the staff was fantastic!!! The beach was beautiful but was only able to swim in it one day because the red flag was up the entire time. Weather was wonderful but my one complaint would be the food it wasn't very good

OK resort

The best thing about the resort was the beach, the food was always under cooked and the rooms were very damp. A few of the people from my group got a little sick from the food.the service was pretty good. Outside of the resort their is nothing much to do and the shows they put on were the worst I've seen in Cuba so far.

Almost perfect!

Beautiful resort, in terms of location, beach amenities, food and certainly it's people. one red flag: they have a staunching sewer smell around multiple places of the resort, I was surprised They need to have a night club in the resort, nothing to do after 10 PM, hundreds of people gathered in the lobby during that time, which made it very loud and uncomfortable.

Way more than what I expected !!

This is my second time in Cuba after 15 years, but my first time in this hotel, also the first time on Cayo Santa Maria. Being one of the newer hotels on the Key, the Playa has a very clean and tidy look. My large and clean ocean view room also has an impressive balcony. I was very impressed by the people working there, how nice and how talented they are! Housekeeping staff made different animal and flower arrangement with towels every day; Each day I drank a big bottle of fresh coconu [... read more]t water, from three coconuts picked right from the trees by the gardeners; Waiters at the buffet remembered my drink after two days: water only ;-) I took Spanish lessons there and practiced with every Cuban I met. They were all patient and super encouraging; I went solo there, yet I had no trouble playing tennis with the pro there or with some staff in the entertainment team; The evening shows were very good. I was amazed by the highly technical dances: the dancers are all professionals with well trained beautiful bodies. I was most surprised, pleasantly, by the variety of food choices in the Buffet and how talented the kitchen staff were! I am a guava addict and I definitely had more than my fair share of that heavenly fresh fruit ;-) That being said, there are some aspects that need some improvement, for example, 1) it would be nice to equip some yoga mat 2) It would be nice to have a better arrival service.

Nicest place in Cuba

As soon as we arrived on the Tarmac in Cuba I was stoked ( mostly because there were dogs at the airport) but also we were greeted by a super nice guide named Alejandro he was informative funny and help, the bus ride to the resort took a little longer than expected but he made the ride fun, when we arrived at the resort were helped immediatly with our check in and brought to our room which was a main floor one king size bed close to a pool (very nice), we did how ever have to change rooms after  [... read more]3 nights because Mosquitos kept getting in and my girlfriend is allergic so she reacts bad to big bites this was no issue whatsoever to the staff and they gave us a room in a building across the path on he top floor with and awesome view. The food at the resort honestly wasn't the best I've had but my girlfriend is vegan and I really don't eat meat aide from fish but the restaurants and staff did all they could to accommodate us. I cannot stress enough how helpful proud and nice the staff were they are what make this resort as good as it is. Would definitely recommend this resort any day of the week. Only pieces of advice I would give would be to bring bug spray for the beach and your own travel cup so you don't have to go back and fourth to the bars for drinks as often. Only thing I would recommend to the resort would be to change up the variety of food at the buffet a little more. 10/10 resort though will try and return someday.

Beautiful, Well-maintained Resort

Grounds and gardens absolutely beautiful. Service friendly wait staff (Ariel, Yandy) and cooks. Bartenders and reception could use a hug to smile more. Entertainment dance crew were incredible, what's up with the standing 270 degree splits? Beach was beautiful, lots of loungers, water clear and warm with that awesome breeze making it a relaxing time. Workers continue to build more palapas, which will make 2017 guests happy. Food was the best out of the other Resorts we have been to in Cuba, but it's still Cuba. Rooms spacious and comfortable, but needs balcony furniture. We would recommend this resort to people who need rest and relaxation, the tours offered will kill most of the day and you'll either be on a bus or boat most of the time.

Great time

Beautiful beaches makes this the place to go. Great staff. Homemade donuts in the morning was a nice treat. The ocean can at times be quite rough but thankfully we got a few calm days of swimming. Bugs unfortunately ate me alive and am glad I brought some after bite. If you are someone who reacts to bites pack bug spray.

Playa Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba,

everything was very good, except for the room we ask for an ocean view, and this is not what we had, it was very hard to negociate, at first they wanted 300.00$ and the next day we had ti pay 140,00$ extra to get a room 3rd floor with an ocean view, and move every thing.

Mixed Feelings!

This is my 6th time to Cuba and my 4th time to Cayo Santa Maria so obviously I love the area. It was however, my first time at this particular resort. While I can not say enough great things about the absolutely stunning Beach, the amazing pools, the spectacular gardens and the truly lovely staff who went above and beyond for every small request we made, I was rather disappointed in the food. The buffet looked lovely, but... food frequently cold, extremely overcooked or just not to typical North American taste. I recognise that Cuban food is typically bland to our palate but many of the items served were beyond help. There are so many simple things that could be done to greatly improve the food but sadly I will look elsewhere for my next Cuba vacation.

Best resort in cuba

this was the best resort in cuba we stayed at and have been there a number of times. the food was great. rooms were clean and grounds were well kept. service was great and very friendly people that work there. the only negative was getting to beach. they needed new set of stairs to get down to water.

Playa cayo santa maria

it is a very amazing resort would go back again the staff people were very friendly and helpful when you needed something the food was very hot and good the hotel was kept very nice and clean so was the beach area they also brought the drinks to you while you were sun bathing we would tell others about this resort loved it very much wish we could have stayed longer wish to go back again soon.

Hotel Playa Cayo Santa Maria

Basically the hotel is a 3 star at best, food is very bland, that's the norm for Cuba, pools need to be cleaned more often, staff seem to only show interest when they see a tip coming. One possitive is the beach, we've been to many beautiful beaches all over the caribbean and this is one of the best we've ever seen.

Great family vacation

Our family of 8 stayed at pcm in November. The resort is very clean and modern. I sent a request to the resort before arriving and all requests were filled. The staff go above and beyond to ensure your vacation is great. The rooms were large and well furnished. The pools clean with lots of chairs and bars at most. Food was good for Cuba. The al a carte dinners excellent. The beach was fine white sand however we only had 4 days out of 10 when we could swim in the ocean as very rough and usual [... read more]ly high tide so little beach. May be just the time of year. Only complaint we had was there are no chairs on the balconies. Very strange for 4.5 resort.

Amazing

Everything was amazing the food the people the pools rooms where very clean , staff was amazing , very nice to everyone the shows where awesome the only thing that I didn't like was all the mosquitoes but either than that everything was amazing I am definitely going back again

AMAZING

I would defiantly stay at Hotel Playa again. The staff on the resort are beyond AMAZING and very respectful and meet your needs. The entertainment is perfect and the shows are my favourite part. Defiantly recommend going here!

Best Resort so far for Cuba

Very pretty resort. Grounds were well kept and food in the reserved restaurants was good. Grilled lobster at the seafood and the romantic restaurants was awesome. Food at buffet was not so great but OK for Cuba. Best to book your reservations directly with the hotel before your vacation as the line ups at the reservation desk is brutal. The rooms are nice and very spacious, but could have been a little cleaner. I had to clean our toilet a few times during our stay as they obviously did not. The [... read more] bathroom door was filthy. One nice touch was your beach towels were in your room so no towel cards or freaking out about losing them. All in all a good vacation. Would recommend to anyone who is OK with spending most or all of their time at the resort as there is not much to do otherwise.
