Not a 5 star resort

We thought the resort was dated. Rooms were dated. You only got good service if you tipped all the time. Not enough A la carte restaurants. You couldnt change your towels by the pool...you had to wait for the maid in order to get new beach towels. Beach is amazing. Food was ok but got boring after a few days. Would not go back to this resort.

Great stay overall

This was my second visit in this resort. Front desk staff are very helpful and professional. The landsacpe is very well maintained. Swimming pool, beach, and bars were clean and no complaints. The only issue was the cleaning the room. Housekeeping only chnage towles and not cleaning the whole room.

Not a five stars

Grounds well kept. Clean site. Upgraded to a privilege room for free since it was our 43rd weddind anniversary. Room big enough with bathtub and a separate rain shower. Most of the hand towels and bath towels are spotted with yellow spots ; really not appealing. And no booth to go change your beach towel ; the woman making your room is the one that will change them for you when she makes your room... You get only one bottle of water per day... Paint missing on headboard of the bed ; so not impre [... read more]ssive. Lots of ants at the entrance and the patio slab. We were unfortunately on groud level.The beach restaurant had excellent chicken and fish and fries. The a-la-carte italian and gourmet had very good beef ( amazing for Cuba ) spaghetti and chicken ; and the wine ( white and red ) were quite good. But the buffet had very poor variety for lunch and supper ; but the breakfast was good although there was no real fruit juices available, only yogourt juices...Magnificient beach and cristal clear water. Lots of chairs but some need to be replaced ; many palapas but they are too small to protect two people at a time.

Food must be improved!

We were at Ocean Varadero El Patriarca from May 17-27, 2017. Overall the hotel is very nice. It's a smaller size hotel so everything is near by. Vrery clean, modern rooms, nice, well maintained grounds. I don't think it is necessary to talk about ocean and beach in Varadero - it is absolutely perfect. BUT the food was horrible. We never expect much from the food as we go to Cuba every year. This hotel was the worst ever in terms of food. Very limited selections of food and everything taste [... read more]d really bad. Same applies to both restaurants. Milk is made from dry milk so it was impassible to drink, even cappuccinos and Latte coffee suffered due to that milk. All alcoholic drinks are watered down in the bar. That was the negative side. Another small disappointment was that swimming pool was closed at 6pm every single day. That is the time when the water is so warm and it's not that hot anymore.Lot's of people enjoying the pool. A worker stars walking around and telling everyone to get out of the pool for chlorine maintenance. However, everything else was pretty good. Music and people are simply amazing in Cuba!!!

Beautiful resort

rooms are ok , food is not so good, services are just fair. there is not much choices for food, almost the same everyday. A la carte restaurants are not that great. Beach and pool is good. Not much shade on the pool. Beach restaurant food is not good.

Dream vacation

The hotel was clean, modern amd beautifully laid out. The beach was outstanding with white sand and clear water. I loved the cuban people. The staff were so friendly, helpful and polite. I thought the food was very good. The only thing I missed was lettuce but it's just something they don't have there. Unfortunately I got saminella but non of my friends did. Don't know what I ate that they didn't. These things happen but it would not stop me from going back to this resort, I just loved it [... read more].

Nice Resort

Was our first time to this resort and 5th to Varadero. Buildings and rooms, showers were really nice and new. Clean rooms and gorgeous plants and grounds. Food was not met 4.5 star hotel. We are not fussy eaters, but food was the same every single day. Seafood was freshly cooked on grill but always same three kinds of fish, Not even a single shrimp or lobster, not even in their a la carte restaurant. Beach was great but we were soooo disappointed about the palapas. Even a 3 star resort would have had better palapas than this resort! All of them almost had big chunks out and sun was penetrating through to us and having sun burns. Palapas were not enough, people were going to reserve them at 7 am! All waiters and waitresses are awesome, our room cleaner lady, China, was very nice. Yohan and Lazaro from beach maintenance crew were the best. We might go back to this resort, but we also know that our friends at Iberostar Laguna Azul had much better selection of meals, including lobster and shrimps.

Second time around

this was our second time at this resort, the hotel was great, the grounds were laid out prefect, well kept, the people were the most friendly of all of the other resorts that we have stayed at, only thing that i found bad was the quality of the food had dropped a bit since the last time there, but over all the trip was great, would recommend this resort to anyone.

It was great

I thought the servers at the pool bar and at the beach were not that friendly but the bar at the lobby was fantastic service with always a smile. I was very please with everything else would consider going again.

Nice resort. Food was good, beautiful beach and service was good. Rooms could use a little cosmetic maintenance but were clean, have good shower and fridge. Great little coffee bar where you can have cappuccino and coffee drinks (included). I would return here definitely!

Friendly Resort

We traveled from May 4 - May 11 -beautiful grounds, very well maintained, great size, could easily get to everything quickly -beach and pool, amazing -food was good, but always the same -rooms, clean but dated

Nicest & newest resort in Varadero !!!

Great hotel ! We stayed in the privilege section with a lovely quiet pool area! Great service over entire resort with premium drinks in all areas with excellent wines at all times of day, not just dinner ! Beautiful beach!! and modern, clean rooms. The house band is the best and the Thursday night lobby party with them is more fun than we've ever had. Food was great in some areas (Italian and Oriental), good in buffet once you scope it out, awful in beach restaurant (should be a buffet, not [... read more] menu/table service for more variety and quick timing to be back at the beach) and very bad at the "gourmet" restaurant!, skip this one. Overall food was good with the highlights being omelet station, pasta bar, pasta dishes, breads !! Cuba always means lots of carbs. If you're looking for amazing food you need a cruise or Jamaica but for Cuba it was good. Cuba is all about the amazing beach, great people and great value. Most of the staff were very friendly, especially the gardeners (Noel !), the bar tenders and the maids in the lobby area !!

Nice place to vacation

The hotel overall was very nice. The buildings and layout of the property is beautiful and it is very clean, well maintained and organized. The rooms are beautiful, with large beds and nice bathroom. We preferred the a la carte options for dining over the buffet, especially the Asian one. The food is "okay", lives up to the stereotype of the bland, unseasoned food that is typical of Cuban all-inclusives. The beach and pool areas were both great, also very clean. They would be down on the beach in the mornings (about 9/10am for a few hours) and then would move up to the pool in the afternoons. Personally, I go down to the beach to relax in peace and quiet, read a book, listen to the waves and enjoy the water. 1 or 2 days of daily entertainment like that would be okay, but it was the same things every day. I was very impressed with the medical centre, they let me in after-hours on a Saturday afternoon because I was covered in heat rash and having an allergic reaction to something. Apparently this (heat rash-allergic rxn combo) is relatively common in Varadero, and the cause is still unknown (and esp unknown to me because I am not allergic to anything and have been to the tropics before), but be prepared with your $$ though. Overall, it was a good vacation to get away and relax and enjoy the warm weather.

Great Holiday !!! I want back!

I spent the greatest time at Ocean El Patriarca with my friends , everything was just perfect. I saw the nicest beach & the cleanest water in my life. The Animation team was amazing, organizing all kind of dancing and games on the beach during the day and shows and concerts during the night. Cesar and Jadira were the best animators! The rooms were clean and towels were changed each day. The staff was always friendly and smiley. The food was varied, you always can have fresh fish or meat  [... read more]prepared in front of you. Their fruits are something, I ate the best mango in my life there. The only thing that needs to be improved is more life music & dancing during the night. With all said, I definitely will go back to this hotel!

Good resort!

Hotel ground were very clean, restaurants and buffet were really good (especially the fish station at the buffet). Staff was really accommodating, polite, helpful, and always smiling. Now we've got to mention the rooms. The rooms were left to be desired. The first day we were in room 5521. Walls were full of stains, floors dirty, lamp broken, water tap in bathtub were rusted, shower door gross!!! (Even got pictures to prove it). On day two, I asked to change room. They sent me to room 5314. The  [... read more]walls were as dirty as the first room. In the bathroom, there was still urine (from the people before me I guess) on the bottom of the toilet. One thing I figured out by myself is that the lady that had the room before us had long black hair. I know this because there was lots left behind. Overall I would probably go back but only with a can of Lysol disenfectant.

Very clean resort

We just came back from a week at this resort, April 24 to May 1 2017. Over all we were very happy. They need more shade by the pool and at the beach, it gets very hot and for us white Canadians we need to protect ourselves in the shade. The food was good, I was a little surprised there wasnt pool bar service and beach service. Not that it mattered since I needed the excersise to get our drinks. A+ Amazing Resort! Great time!

This Resort was lovely! The rooms were clean and spacious with a filled mini-bar everyday. Lots of bars (beach bar, lobby bar, pool bar, coffee bar and more!) and restaurants all around the resort (which were fabulous). The "snack" restaurant by the pool was convenient and yummy for a quick pick me up. The restaurant by the ocean was amazing! Highly recommend! The staff at this resort were friendly and hard working! They held different events every night which were nice for entertainment. Friendly shuttle bus to and from the resort with great hosts! Just ... wow.

Fantastic time! Beach was gorgeous, staff was hospitable, room was amazing and the Transat excursion tours were safe and addordable ways to get out and see the rest of Cuba. Would recommend this hotel to a couples or families.

Incredible resort!

This hotel is unique as the two story units are spread out with flower lined pathways in between. This means that there is peace and quiet and no crowds. The only busier places are the buffet area and the main lobby in the evening. The gym is well equipped and the staff are exceptionally kind and helpful. The food is good and the a la carte dinner options are easily accessible, so much so, that we ate at a different location every night. All around excellence

The hotel, staff, food and entertainment were most excellent. I would highly recommend Oceans El Patriarca to anyone who wants to visit Veredaro, Cuba. With the helpful, cheerful and friendly staff it made out stay delightful
