Clean, modern, resort

View of the marina was really awesome and an added bonus. The hotel is very clean and modern by Cuban standards. Food was average. The French a la carte was fantastic. Other a la cartes very average. The buffet was quite good with lots of variety. Hotel grounds were immaculate. Pool area was very clean and spacious. No issues getting pool chaises or beach chaises. Beach area is very narrow but nice sandy beach. Beautiful beach like all Cuban beaches. Service was slow at resort. Half  [... read more]way through our stay we heard another hotel overbooked and they were sent to our hotel. From that point on there were lineups for buffet restaurant at all times and to get drinks. Lobby was spacious. Maid service was the best we've ever had in Cuba and we've been 5 other times to different areas and resorts in Cuba. Overall a nice resort but not a 5 star.

Good Resort.

We found that even though the resort was not very old, that it was starting to show some wear and tear. It was clean and the rooms were decent but the beds and pillows were very hard. The entertainment nightly was excellent on every level-something different every night-the best I've seen at an all inclusive ever! The staff were pleasant but there was a huge communication gap as hardly any of them spoke any English. The pictures in the advertisement on Sunwing/Trip Central do not reflect the actuality of the exterior of the hotel grounds. All in all, we had a very pleasant and relaxing holiday in Cuba at this resort.

Amazing and wonderful place

Very good place for families vocation. The variety of warm foods should be more but the quality was perfect. Fruits were good and also many kinds of salads and icecream and sweets were available. Also gulf cars were available all times with poliet drivers. Room services also were very good. I will visit this resort again.

Slightly above average

We enjoyed our time at the resort mainly due to the group we traveled with. The staff is excellent, room was good and food was adequate. The lack of shade at both the pool and beach and need to save loungers were negatives for me. The entertainment was quite professional in the evening but the venues for it were very crowded. Location is not the best.....furthest resort from Varadero. Enjoyable visit !

Recently visited this resort, this was my 5th trip to Varadero and all my stays have been at Melia Marina. This visit was just as enjoyable as most. My only negative would be the service in the buffet restaurant, have had great service in the past but noticed none of the servers were there anymore. Had trouble getting drinks, breakfast you are able to get juice on your own but lunch and dinner I would be finishing my meal before being asked if I would like a drink. Resort very clean and staff v [... read more]ery friendly. Lobby bar staff exceptional as always , never an issue getting a cocktail or beer. Beach area is small but no issues with service. Rooms are very nice and fridge refilled daily.Made a visit to the spa for a massage and dip in the pool always very relaxing. Food was standard for Cuba and I wish more seafood options were available. I still am a fan of Melia Marina.

Amazing resort

Staff were very friendly&steady to help when needed.The resort was very clean.Rooms were big& very clean.The food was great&a lots of variety.The weather was great .What more could you ask for.?The rest is up to you to enjoy your holiday.....& yes I would recommend this resort to any of my friends .....

Just OK

We have been to many all-inclusive resorts. I would describe myself as not overly demanding - when I'm on these vacations, I largely just try to go with the flow. I am just mentioning this because I find reading reviews a bit hilarious sometimes - it's clear some people have very high expectations. I am not one of those people. This place is just OK. I found the service not very friendly, nor attentive. I am not one of those persons who wants to make friends with the staff. I don't need much in this department, but some would just ignore you and then act like you were putting them out. There were long waits for things like drinks and whatnot. While the grounds are well maintained and clean, I found it to be a bit "industrial" looking for being on a tropical vacation. As well, the resort is quite spread out with the result that you might get a room very far from the beach/pools/buffet. If you are able-bodied, this isn't such a big deal. But if you have any problem walking around, this will be an issue. There are golf carts that can drive you around. The food was acceptable, but not very good. The buffet was the same everyday. A la carts weren't much better, but a bit better and more civilized than the noisy/disorganized buffet. It was very difficult to get enough water to drink at this resort. Most resorts I've been to had a place where you could fill up your own bottle, not here. They just delivered one bottle per day to your room, which I don't think is nearly enough for two people. Trying to get bottles of water was like pulling teeth. The beach is nice.

Poorest quality ever

We were prepared for tasteless food but this resort not only had poor quality food but often ran out of basic items eg hamburgers, omelette ingredients, hash browns, fruit etc etc. Beef was always tough, even at the a la carte restaurants. Chicken was dry and tough. Our room was never made up until between 5 and 6 pm and they often ran out of fresh towels. Difficult to shower and clean up for dinner! The pool towel hut was out of fresh towels 3 of our 7 days.

Terrible service, terrible food.

Pool grounds & beach ok. Food terrible, service terrible. Never again!!! Many people we talked to said the same thing. Al a carte restaurants worst ever. People left before they were served. This was sold to us as a 5 star!!!! Would not give it a 2 star

Great resort condos!

We had one of the apartment condos and they were very clean and modern. There were four people in our group and it was very spacious. Loved it! Food was better than we expected. Pool area was clean! Beach was terrific! The grounds were clean and well maintained.

Great resort

We stayed in the Melia Marina apartments.We really enjoyed the view of the marina watching the boats go in and out of the harbour.The apartments were really lovely, well furnished and fabulous maid service. It was a bit of a walk to the beach, but you passed a myriad of shops and restaraunts.The seafood one especially was really good.Have the paella! Great Memories

The main lobby is beautiful. The room was alright, it could've been cleaner. The food looked great but for vegetarian guests it isn't the most inviting. The staff was absolutely fantastic and made our trip much more exciting. If you are looking for a relaxing, super quiet vacation this is definitely the resort for you!

Melia Marina Appartement Review!!!

I was in the appartements and found it very well. The rooms were very clean, the staff was excellent.The service in cuba is everywhere very relaxed!!!! The entertainement was awesome.....very nice place and has everything you need to shop if you wish not to go out of the complex. What I would recommend though would be something to wash the dishes with, and another pot to cook with!!! The phone service is horrible though...you cannot get any calls comming in, but can call out!!!

A good resort for the money.

We were on "the level" 6th floor where the service was first rate. We enjoyed all of the restaurants and buffet although we would have liked a bit more selection at the restaurants for those of us who don't eat seafood. There was a lot of lobster, shrimp and fish available more so than other resorts we have been, which most people would enjoy. The rooms were clean, comfortable and had a lovely view of not only the pool area but the ocean as well. The nightly entertainment seemed to be good although we only went once as it was outside by the marina and a bit cold for us to sit and watch. There is not much I didn't like about the resort, even the walk to the beach was enjoyable and we often caught a ride with the driver who went back and forth continuously. However, I will say that I was very disappointed that the best sitting areas to eat and relax outside with the best views over looking the marina were plagued with a continuous stream of smokers. Unfortunately the umbrellas meant for shade held in the stale smell of smoke so we were unable to enjoy the great view as much as we would have liked.

Amazing Resort!!!

I've been to Cuba 4 times before and this resort was by far the best resort I have ever stayed at!!! Our room was clean and looked updated! The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful! Can't wait to go back!

Melia marina apartmento

It was a great experience amazing rooms and a great Resort. Warning to all of you who attempt to book melia marina apt European style (not all inclusive), it was extremely difficult for us to find any kind of produce to buy (fruits and vegetables). All supermarkets mini-marts and convenience stores in the resort area and outside the resort are very expensive and have no produce to offer. In fact it was more expensive than grocery shops in Toronto for example. To them anything from the Wes [... read more]t like canned food is a luxury which was very very bizarre to me. The quality of food in their grocery shops are extremely substandard. I recommend that you guys bring some kind of food along with you if you are going to book your vacation European style. Expect to pay tips everywhere you go. They are vicious when it comes to nickel and diming everyone. Be very careful and vigilant some cashiers might try to rob you. Count your money when they give you your change back. Moreover, bring along a roll of toilet paper, their restrooms outside the resort lack toilet paper. Believe it or not toilet paper is considered a luxury in their culture!!!!!! Very few can actually afford it. Don't forget your sunglasses and definitely sunblock lotions.

Great vacation place

We stayed for a week with our teenage daughters and had a great family vacation. The resort is amazing and the staff were aweaome. They made everyone feel special. Everyone warned us about the food in Cuba but we were pleasantly suprised...eapecially the a la cart resturants.

A Very Amazing Resort

Everything was clean and done with great precision. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable. The food was terrific and always a lot available. the drinks were not watered down and were professionally made. No line ups to anything. The only other thing to say was the resort charged too much for cigars. The rooms were clean and great.

Great Resort

This is a great resort, the location is perfect, the beach is a bit of a walk but worth it. The staff are lovely and the food was great! The room was spacious, shower was great, the beds aren't so comfortable but the rest of the resort makes up for it.

Practical & safe

I stayed in the apartments, a few minutes walk away from the main hotel. I would recommend this hotel if you don't mind walking around a bit to get to the beach, shops, & restaurants. It'a a great way to save money as you can buy an all inclusive day pass here and there, but not necessarily the whole trip!
