The service and bar tenders Vitor and Juan at the Beach bar is excellent.
The food and service at the Indian and Italian restaurants were very good.
The service and food at the International and seafood restaurants were horrible.
The service at the snack bar is also terrible. There is no organization at these three.
Majority of bar tenders are bad when they can not even do a proper Cuba libre mix when they do not add lime. Most of them except to get tips for lousy service.

Amazing people. Nice resort
The resort is nice. Decor is clean and modern. Rooms are nicely decorated, very comfortable beds, great bathroom, especially the shower.
We stayed in building 7. Had an ocean view room. They upgraded us without asking!
Wifi is $1 peso per hour. And it worked throughout the resort, even in the rooms.
The usable beach is off to the side of the resort. It has a great beach bar with the best mojitos!!
No complaints about the beach, who can complain about a beach anyway?
You can take a long[... read more] walk and pass a few other resorts. Grand Muthu seemed to be the busiest of the resorts in the area.
The food. There was always something to eat, however the selection was very limited. But once you figure when and where to eat, you will get by just fine.
The 24 hour snack bar offers a small buffet as well as a menu (look for it as they didn’t show us one until the last day) which is what I lived off of for breakfast and lunch most days.
There are many things to keep you occupied including tennis, soccer, basketball. As well as table tennis, pool and even bowling.
Beach activities include pedal boats, catamarans, kayaks and beach volleyball.
There is a disco at the resort, however we never made it there. I believe it just opened.
Now the people. The staff are amazingly friendly, kind and humble people. They alone made me love Cuba despite the food.
Bring gifts if you can. Cologne, perfume and clothing are much appreciated as well as toys for kids. Money is not as important to them as they are unable to find these things even if they have money.
The snack bar staff were amazing Alber treated us like honoured guests every time he saw us!
There were so many amazing people working at this resort I wish I could name them all.
Lastly you must visit the restaurant on the beach. It’s a 3 minute walk just past the beach volleyball net. There you can get a mixed seafood plate containing Lobster Tails, shrimp, fish, salad and rice and plantain for $20 Pesos.
Totally worth it!
Give Grand Muthu a try. Keep an open mind and remember they are truly working with minimal supplies.

Relaxing Vacation
The Grand Muthu is a a new resort located on the beautiful beach of Cayo Guillermo.
This is the place to go if you want to relax and walk for miles along the beautiful sandy beach.
The food was comparable to all the resorts we have been to in Cuba. The service was very good especially the rooms, beach bar and lobby.

Family Friendly but Overcrowded Grand Muthu...
Overall, my husband and son and I very much enjoyed our first ever vacation in the sun at the Grand Muthu Guillermo in Cayo Coco. However, because of overbooking (or maximum booking) at peak season, we often met up with very long line-ups at the buffet hall and had to wait sometimes 1/2 hour or more to get freshly cooked food, e.g. omelettes at the breakfast buffet, fried fish, meat or chicken, etc. I never once got a freshly cooked omelette, as I did not want to spend all my precious vacation t[... read more]ime waiting in line... I felt quite overwhelmed at first by all the crowds, but got used to it towards the end of our 1 week stay (Jan.20 to 26, 2019). I resent having to spend nearly half of my special vacation waiting in line and also waiting to make the A la Carte restaurant reservations which took at least 2 hours of our first morning in Cuba, and this occurred right after 1 hour in orientation class (in a classroom setting yet) which we were strongly recommended to attend by our 1st SunWing rep (a lovely blond-haired Cuban girl) on the shuttle bus from the airport to the hotel. She told tourists on the bus that if we did not attend this orientation class, it would 'be on her' and she could lose her job... We were extremely disoriented that 1st morning, having entered our room at about 1 or 2 AM the night before (i.e. that same morning) after our plane landed in Cayo Coco at about 11 PM, as the hotel and grounds appeared vastly different in the daytime than at night time (like 'night & day') and we had only slept about 6 hours in order to make it to the breakfast buffet (open from 7 to 10 AM only). In brief, I felt like we were all 'herded like cattle' in order to satisfy the hotel's structure and agenda. I felt quite stressed out and not like I was actually on a vacation to relax... After 2 days of making a big effort to get up early enough to make it to breakfast so around 8:30-9 AM, we just let go of that rigid schedule and at least made it to the lunch buffet which goes from 1 to 3 PM and is served (thankfully) in 2 different buildings at the same time. Unfortunately, I went hungry in between, as no food is served between 10 AM and 1 PM. There is a 24/7 snack bar that always serves food, but the food is not ' breakfast' material and consists mainly of fries and burgers, or ham & cheese grilled sandwiches, unless it is the lunch buffet, specifically (1 to 3 PM only). Also, the coffee served in the buffet areas is not very good, and is usually served cold as the waiters serve it to you from a canister. If you want milk (like I do), then it cools the coffee even further. Fortunately, there is a microwave oven that you can use to reheat it, that's if it is available to use... Overall, the food is ok. Cooked meat or chicken presented at the buffet (i.e.not freshly cooked) is tough & dry, in spite of being tasteful. However, once you are at the buffet hall, the food displayed is plentiful and it rarely runs out (as opposed to the freshly cooked food). All 3 of us really enjoyed the A la Carte restaurant food, and I would give it a 4 out of 5 star rating. Some tourists were unhappy with their meal choices, however, so it depends on what you choose on the menu. Please take the time to think & ask questions, if you can, before ordering. From what others have said, I would not choose the curried shrimp dish. Just stick to the fish, and you will not be disappointed. The food I enjoyed the most was the following: freshly cooked shrimp & calamari (excellent), fresh papaya & grapefruit, a large variety of beans & olives, blue cheese in large quantities, a large variety of wonderful cheeses, lamb (thin & tough, but tasty), the fresh bread (wonderful), some of the pastries (wonderful!), great salads & more. Re service in the rooms, I give it a 4 on 5 star rating. Our maid was very sweet and as helpful as she could be, so was the maintenance guy who had to fix a major shower issue. Talking of showers, don't run the water too long, they always flood and there is only a very small bath mat & maybe 1 used towel to mop it up... Re beach towels, good luck in getting them - one must get up at 6 or 7 AM and get in line for that...! They are large and beautiful, though, and we finally got ours about 1/2 way into our vacation. Towels are hard to come by, but our room maid tried to provide as many as she was allowed to on a daily basis. She also tried to replenish the shower gel and shampoo (no conditioner!!) daily. Bring your own washcloths, if you need to, as they only provide large towels. Re service elsewhere at the hotel, I would rate it 3 on 5 stars. Perhaps because of cultural & language barriers, I had a few 'run-ins' with some staff who displayed a 'haughty' attitude and ordered me around like I was staff! Example: "...Go sit down! You listen to me..!" I wasn't shy about giving them a piece of my mind! I also complained to the professional Sun Wing Rep(s) and managerial staff at the hotel, one of whom was a bit confrontational with me, but we later straightened out the miscommunication(s). We had a technical issue with our safe in the room, which was readily attended to, thankfully, but it took 3 days to fix. In spite of all the little daily issues (e.g. technical issues especially with toilets, showers, lack of towels, misunderstandings with staff, long line-ups, broken or non functional toilets everywhere but in our rooms, etc) and wasting precious vacation time attending to one or more issues, we enjoyed some free time at the Grand Muthu, walking on the beach or wading/swimming in the beautiful pools. Once, on our 2nd last day, we managed to arrive at the beach just in time to use the free kayaks as it was past 3 PM. The staff allowed us to use them for 10 minutes...
Re hotel grounds and our hotel room, I would rate them a 4 on 5 stars, as everything was brand new and very clean, and there were lovely gardens and flowers here and there. Big issue: not being able to find a working toilet in various buildings, except in the main lounge area and in our rooms. Once, I had to empty & fill up the wastepaper basket to flush a toilet. Most were broken. Once, a staff person said 'they are all closed', and I nearly had an 'accident' on my way to the main lobby to use the toilets there...
Re the weather: it was wonderfully hot and sunny on our 1st day, perfect for the beach and lounging at the pools (if you could find an unoccupied lounge chair, that is...) with the kids. That night, a wind storm was brewing and for the next 3 days, it was very windy and cool with huge waves so we could not go on any water excursions. We were able, however, to walk on the beach and in the grounds which allowed us to meet many, many people from all over the world who actually now reside in Toronto or in the province of Quebec. My son & I were also able to practice our French (my 1st language) as many tourists spoke French, and we all made lots of friends, a highlight of our trip. My husband loved meeting all those people and he will tell you that was a highlight of his trip. We also joined the bar party 3 nights in a row and had a good time (at the 24/7 snack & alcohol bar). All in all, our week in Cuba was a success and considering we escaped our usual winter cold weather in the -30 degree range, it was a wonderful trip!! Tips if you decide to go to Cuba: 1.bring coffee mugs (very useful and coffee bar servers are happy to fill them up with specialty coffees, very good BTW), bring gifts as opposed to pesos e.g. toys for the children (of room staff for ex), hats, caps, old T shirts with logos, old sweaters, makeup, nail polish & lipsticks, feminine hygiene products (very costly I hear), mint candies (they cannot get them in Cuba), shoes (costly) and other basic necessities, which the Cuban locals will appreciate more than money. An extra note on this subject: Logos are important to them. 2.Brush up on your Spanish first, it may come in handy. 3.Don't expect instant service or even any service at all, and you will be ok. 4.Practice being in crowds before coming to the Muthu 5.Pack very lightly if you can in order to have room to bring souvenirs in your luggage 6. Be aware of the beach bugs, e.g. sand flies and/or fleas. They bite at certain times of the day (mostly morning & evenings, I hear) and you don't see them as they are tiny crustaceans (less than 3 mm long). The bites resemble mosquito bites (or even bed bug bites...) and may not appear until 7 days later. They itch and sting and you must apply some cream (preferably medicated) to soothe your skin, or you will have trouble sleeping. Unless there is a parasitic infection (which is extremely rare), they will disappear in time with no sequels. 7.Expect long line-ups and waits, and you will be fine.
It is a great family escape! Try and have fun when you go there with your family, and remember how cold it is way up North, then you will enjoy every moment in the warm Cuban sun!

Good if they did food proper
Was here from January 17-24 - weather was windy and so not the best .
Most was really good , nice room most with ocean view , grounds lovely , bars well handled , ala carts not to bad , we got 3 reservations and that saved us from having to go to the most under designed buffet I ever came across with.
if you don't mind standing in line waiting for some joke of a cook to make your food with as much interest as a door nail then your fine , me being a 40 year food service manager was having the h[... read more]ardest time with their main buffet , also the staff tries but seems to be lacking direction and most definitely they are understaffed.
Believe me I know you don't go to Cuba for the food [ trip 35] but this was and note the worst food provider I have come across .
Don't get me started about their 24 hour snack bar , how could you need 30 minutes to serve me a cheese burger that is ,no lie ice cold .
Another time waited a hour [ at least beer was cold and arrived] for 2 burgers, they never arrived and complaining about this to manager and customer service does really nothing , they just stare at you like your a spoiled brat , maybe I am ?.
Again resort is nice , beach great , and with good weather maybe the week would have been better , not for us .
Enough of Cuba , pay the price and head to Mexico , I am .
Cheers

Fantastic resort
There was nothing we didnt find pleasing about the Grand Muthu at Cayo Guillermo. Beautifully maintained grounds, beach, and pools. The whole resort was immaculate. Staff friendly with great service always. Great sports bar, cigar bar, and the lobby was well suited for gathering and partying. All our needs were tended to. Would/will not hesitate to return here.

Nice Newer Resort
Resort is very nice as it is newer (open in March 2018) with friendly staff. Beach is very nice, although a little rougher in terms of the water than other resorts. Pillar Beach which is ranked in the top 15 beaches in the world is about 2 kms away and also worth spending an afternoon. Food was slightly better than some other resorts, but it is still Cuba. The A La Cartes were very good and booking was easy. All of them are highly recommended. Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo
I found the rooms lovely as well as all the staff who worked at resort, especially the entertainment staff. Ilan and Ilen were so friendly and always working hard to engage everyone pool side to take part in activities. I did find some of the food at times cold at the buffet, the grounds were lovely. The cleaning staff went above and beyond at times. There were some issues with not enough towels at times however it is Cuba and that is to expected. Beautiful & small resort
We would visit this resort, everything is minutes to get to which is great for anyone with problems walking/wheel chairs or age related. The pools are very clean and all the lots seating area's never a problem getting a lounge chair.A swim up bar with seating area also and stools in the pool. The beach is beautiful also with a bar, a area to book paddle boats and different water related things to use. No shortage of lounge chairs or shade, also a buffet lunch which turns into the Seafood ala car[... read more]te in the evening. Kids area has a pool and another smaller one with a great water feature in the middle of the large one, they also have a building with a inside play area and all are fenced in with lots of lounge chairs. No shortage of entertainment inside the lobby and outside or in the auditorium. Pool activities daily and I think at the beach they do exercises or some sort of fun things I was told. No shortage of food but the Snack bar is open 24 hrs with a buffet during the day and a menu with a bar, this is right beside the pools. The buffee area has lots of seating area's and the food had lots of variety and things do change so it's not a repeat of eating the same foods daily, they do have 1 micro wave to use. The rooms are very clean, we had no problem getting cleaning towels or toilet rolls like some say they did. Bring face clothes as they don't have them. All the staff we dealt with were great no complaints on any of them. They do have a hair place for $, cigar room and a gym also a pool table room with a bar also. A large sitting area & evening bar outside of the buffee where all these buildings are located and the auditorium. The grounds are very well maintained. No shortage of beach towels but you have to be there at 9:30 a.m when they come in and maybe bring some and leave them just in case you have to wait for one. Our building was 2A facing the pools, main floor and it was great and the views were awesome.

Lovely Resort
Overall the resort is beautiful. Service is lacking and they are not organized. Waiting in line for towels and restaurant bookings is not the way you want to spend your vacation. The staff at the beach bar were the best we have ever had!!
The beach and water were amazing and one of the reasons we go to Cuba.
Food was average for Cuba. We went to the lobster shack beside the hotel for a great meal for $18C each.
Nightlife was a bit disappointing for a new hotel. Shows were just ok.
We ha[... read more]d an ocean view room that was worth the upgrading. The views were amazing. The room is nice and modern.

Not Bad or Spectacular, Average
We’ve never been to Cuba, and the country is lovely, the beaches are beautiful, and everyone is very friendly and smiling.
The resort, however, has a few issues. It’s too big, I think, and they obviously weren’t ready for it to be full. There are too few staff at the buffet so the lines are long, and the ready food is where the lineup is for freshly cooked items, so it’sa mess. We got towels, but many people didn’t, and that’s kind of important at a beach resort.
We went on 2 exc[... read more]ursions, both run very efficiently. The 2 city tour was the best, really showed us a lot of the culture, poverty, unfortunately, but was very interesting.
One tip-bring cash! I couldn’t get money at the bank at all, had to go to another resort that had a bank onsite, which I heard about after trying the bank in the city, with nothing to show for it. A nice employee took me to the resort with the bank in his car, so it felt safe to do so, since he let others know what he was doing and wire his name badge.
Souvenirs at Moron we’re cool by the carriage ride, and at the airport as well. Not much available on resort, but I still managed to get s couple of things.
A great relaxing trip, I’d recommend Cuba and Cayo Guillermo, but another resort.

Grand Muthu-Needs a lot of improvements!
Let me start with the 5 star this resort claims to be. In my opinion in order for a resort to claim 5 stars it really has to be the best ! This one however missed the mark. Everything that could have gone wrong in my one week did! This particular week happened to be its busiest since it opened less than a year ago. It was very unprepared to meet the demands of so many guests! Beach towels were always an issue -I arrived Sunday and didn’t get mine until Wednesday simply because they didn’t h[... read more]ave enough. Although one is aware of the food in Cuba it still isn’t an excuse for the inconsistencies of one day trays always being filled and another where they would be empty for far too long before being replenished! Not to mention the lineups! Calling reception to get something like fresh towels or toilet paper to your room isn’t happening unless you go to customer relations and complain how long you’ve been waiting and finally the girl at the desk just gets it for you. Restaurant reservations were also a major issue. Even though ours were made 2 days before, it wasn’t until we went to confirm the day of that we were told there just wasn’t enough room at the restaurant of our choice and only happened to get into another of the restaurants simply because somebody cancelled. By luck we did get into the other restaurant but nothing special!
The staff and workers were very friendly and accommodating. They really tried to make it a positive experience. However these issues and I’m sure many more that other guests experienced really need to be dealt with at the managerial level. In order to claim a five star rating they really need to deal with the many problems that unfortunately plague this resort. So if you’re planning to visit this resort all I can say is Vacationer be aware and be prepared!

Great resort!
Brand new resort. The location is excellent, with most of the villas with rooms that have a ocean view. The rooms are new with all the amenities. Great AC, fridge was stocked daily.
The beach is nice, depends a lot on the weather, the water can be crystal clear or with lots of waves and weeds from the mother nature.
The restaurants can be very busy at certain times, special on high season.
The working staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Great drinks in the lobby and lots of coffee spec[... read more]ialities.
I would definitely recommend it!

Better than i expected but not great!
Other than the food and public bathrooms we still managed to enjoy our holiday. My husband and i are very simple eaters and we had a very hard time finding stuff to eat we liked. The public bathrooms didn't flush as they were on the back of the toilets made of plastic and they were all broken and the poor girls had to keep cleaning them out. The bar tenders in the sportsbar were great but the ones in the lobby seemed to bypass you if you didn't have money in your hand to tip. Beautiful facility that needs some changes
The positives of this resort are the rooms(one of the best I have stayed at in Cuba), the beach which is awesome with plenty of chairs to go around and the three beautiful pools. The grounds are well manicured with lots of friendly staff.
The downside to this resort is definitely the food, specifically the buffet. I have never complained about food in Cuba, because you are in Cuba, but the kitchen set up and lack of hot food was definitely a let down for an otherwise great resort. You have to b[... read more]attle to get to the food, and, when you finally get it, it's cold. Also, the kitchen tended to run out food items like rolls and fruit and forget juice because it was always empty. This would keep me from returning again.
