My family and I stayed at the Royalton Hideway Resort Diamond Club. I want to say that our service was amazing. Our butlers were outstanding and were there for all of us when we needed them. Out of all the restaurants, the Mexican was outstanding, I can’t say enough about the service we received there. It was so amazing that we ate there twice and we we not disappointed.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Huge Resort with lots of variety for food!
We had an amazing week at Bahia Principe Akumal. Its our first time travelling with our 20 month old so we had alot of concerns and requests to make our stay more convenient. We requested to be on the ground level as I found out doing my research that there are no elevators so it would be really hard to get up and down with stroller and everything else. It was really thoughtful they did place us somewhere convenient and close to the station where u take the shuttle. We were in 6501 ocean front ,[... read more] which was upgraded for free due to re-scheduling because of the hurricane.
Everyone is really nice and friendly in the hotel. The kids club people were really awesome, they let us drop in with our baby just to hang around because she is still too little to be dropped off. Our servers Eric, Jesus for breakfast and Jose and G for lunch and for dinner Hector.
They were all very attentive and had a high chair ready for us soon as we walked in.
Our hotel room was dated but it was very well maintained. Our mini bar is always fully stocked. I requested to have lots of water so i can make a bottle for my daughter every night and also our room was kept clean and with fresh towels daily.
The resort is huge so studying the map is necesarry because the signs are fairly small and easily missed. Especially since you will have access to all other resorts such as coba, tulum and sian kan adults only. My baby loved the waterpark in tulum. There are no kids waterpark in akumal but there are plenty of swimming areas with shallow ends.
The beach is amazing! But dont forget your water shoes. Glad i did my research and got my family aqua shoes because oh boyy the rocks are not fun. There were kids and people getting cuts on their toes and some lady even got a really bad one, it got infected. Otherwise, the ocean is beautiful, its got a man made barrier so you dont get the huge waves. It was the highlight for me! As im a beach person. Be careful with the sand my daughter had a lot of sand flea bites by sitting on it for too long. I should have made her wear a body suit. On that note, the bug bites! There are lots and also mosquitos at night attacking our feet while we hang out in the lobby as well as theatres. Bring lots of good bug spray. Its really really warm this time of the year i got me one those tiny electric fans from amazon. They were life savers.
The food in general was amazing! Lots and lots of variety. I ate fish and seafood everyday. They were so fresh here. The meats are hit and miss sometimes it tends to be too dry but over all flavours were still really good. Lots of fresh fruits and desserts daily and the best iced coffee at the coffee shop! Breakfast has so much variety.

Planet Hollywood Adult Scene Cancun by Royalton: Lackluster and Catfished
Our recent stay at Planet Hollywood Cancun, unfortunately, did not live up to expectations. From the outset, we encountered numerous issues that marred our experience.
Firstly, room accommodations were a major concern. We were moved not once, but three times during our stay without much sympathy or apology. This disrupted our vacation and caused unnecessary inconvenience. Despite these inconveniences, no compensation (room upgrade) was offered, which left us feeling undervalued as guests. We [... read more]did although receive 2 chocolate covered strawberries, 2 stale macarons and a bottle of sparkling white wine as a gesture to the inconvenience.
The lack of empathy from the staff was particularly disheartening. Customer service representatives appeared dismissive and distracted when we raised our concerns, failing to provide satisfactory resolutions or even acknowledge the extent of our dissatisfaction.
Another significant disappointment was the water quality and culinary offerings. The water, crucial for any resort experience, was subpar, affecting our ability to fully enjoy amenities such as in-room facilities. Additionally, the food quality was mediocre at best, with many dishes falling short of the expected standard for a 5-star resort. Most notably, several drinks tasted peculiar, resembling the flavor of soap rather than the advertised ingredients, which was highly disappointing.
Despite these shortcomings, there were a few bright spots in our otherwise lackluster stay. Alejandra, the pool waitress, stood out for her exceptional service and attentiveness, making our poolside experiences very enjoyable. Her kindness helped to alleviate some of the resort shortcomings. Similarly, Wilbert, our waiter at Gusto Italian restaurant, provided exemplary service, demonstrating genuine care and professionalism that was sorely lacking elsewhere in the resort.
In conclusion, while our stay at this resort had its moments of excellence thanks to individuals like Alejandra and Wilbert, the overall experience fell short of expectations due to frequent room changes, poor water quality, mediocre food, and disappointing customer service. For future guests, we hope these issues are addressed to ensure a more enjoyable and seamless stay.

Worst food ever. Worst service ever. Treatment of guests is atrocious. Half the time only 1 of 4 elevators was working the whole week. All inclusive package doesn't allow you to use adult only pool. They wanted extra $$. Beach is amazing just shame about the resort

Krystal Grand Nuevo Vallarta: Great Resort
The public areas where kept very clean, the adult infinity pool was amazing, complete with the swim up bar. Always great service in all restaurants and bars. The rooms are spacious and clean, nice bathrooms with large showers, towels replenished regularly, good daily housekeeping with mini bar stocked daily. We had a room in the main building on the 10th floor, amazing ocean, pools and grounds views. The grounds are lush and well maintained. Nice lighting for walking at night. The rooms are spacious, clean and beds comfortable. Enjoyed the patio, which had comfortable furniture. The pools were great, lots of chairs and shade. The beach is nice although not great for a lot of swimming. The musicians were very talented and we really enjoyed them all. Occidental at Xcaret Destination: July 2025
So our overall experience is say was a 2/5. The resort was clean, the staff was friendly and helpful when asking for directions. The beach is man made which was lovely bc you could still see the ocean while swimming in the beach area as there is no access to the ocean as it’s rock faced. You got to swim with the fish in the beach as well which was super cool. However we experienced hurricane weather as Beryl hit near by, causing the resort to basically close down for safety purposes which wa s c[... read more]omepltelt understandable however trying to get food was a nightmare! The buffet was open for a period of time and it was utter chaos everyone treated it as if we were going through Covid and the toilet paper incident!! It was madness and utmost disgusting as I had a little one to feed… and the morning after the storm we were given food but it was refried beans, tortillas and watery eggs! It was nasty! The buffet was nothing special- kinda gross at times however the al la cart meals were excellent! I’d deff reccomend paying extra to eat there each time!
Also don’t get scammed into the VIP tour they failed to mention was a speech about there clubs and to get you to buy room from them in order to get cheaper tickets to Xcaret… a waste of 2 hours of our day!!

Riu Palace Costa Mujeres: Stunning & Friendly Resort! Even with the hurricane
Amazing! We stayed at the Riu Palace Costa Mujeres. We were a family of four with two teenage boys. I can't say enough about this beautiful paradise and its friendly staff. The layout of this hotel is stunning. Warm beaches, clean ocean, on the shore the sand looks like smooth paste and feels like sponge. There is a 24 hr buffet in the lobby lounge, 3 restaurants for dinner to choose from and a large buffet area - all delicious! and a beautiful stunning lounge.
The hotel/beach/pools was a b[... read more]it overcrowded there were alot of people and many kids but plenty of food, chairs and beach chairs to go around. They also serve you drinks along the beaches and pools. We loved Pepes Food along the pool side it was our/my boys favourite since you get hungry fast.
The hotels are very clean, free mini bar, service for hotel towels were always delivered promptly, Although, bring your own facial soap . All the workers serve you with friendly smiles. My husband and I were happy we had our own rooms and our boys were right in the next room, just close the door, turn and knock, everyone got their privacy.
We arrived on June 27 and were supposed to depart on July 4, but we couldn't because of the approaching hurricane. Despite this, we were informed in the early afternoon that our flight was delayed and we were allowed to stay that day/night. The resort staff treated us wonderfully, allowing us to stay an extra day and a half. They continued to allow us access to all the restaurants, lounges, bars, desserts, coffee, internet, pools and beaches before the hurricane hit in the late evening to early morning July 4 & 5.
The staff took every precaution to ensure our safety. They notified us about moving furniture in our rooms to block the sliding doors, informed us of the restaurant hours, and stationed security with sandbags in the hallways to prevent water from seeping into the rooms(we were on the first floor, no water came). They also worked incredibly hard to clear and remove all the pool and beach chairs, which was no small task given how many there were.
We appreciated everything they did, we felt very safe and comfortable and we will definitely be going back in the future! Please do not forget to tip them, they work hard!
We loved the Riu Palace Costa Mujeres. Thanks again!

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Beautiful resort!
The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences in Playa del Carmen is a truly beautiful resort. We spend our family vacation almost every week there. We love the jungle area and the beach as well. They have also recently started taking care of the cenote near the restaurant area and it is really beautiful. The rooms are spacious and have a kitchen area as well. We also enjoyed the spa with a 30 min hydrotherapy cycle including sauna, jacuzzi, cold water plunge, body scrub. This was very relaxing to finish[... read more] every day. There are also many activities every day such as yoga and pilates and beginners tennis lessons in the morning, as well as aquagym and beach volleyball in the afternoon, and a variety of evening shows. The restaurants serve delicious foods and accommodate for dietary restrictions. We have recently become vegan so we cannot have everything on the menu, but we were able to ask to remove what we couldn't have from menu items. Restaurant menus also have vegetarian and vegan symbols to identify which items are vegetarian or vegan. Our ambassador (butler) was very helpful to make restaurant, spa and bali bed reservations. It is also important to note that the beach is very nice although there is some seaweed which affects this area of mexico, but it is cleaned up every morning by workers. We really like the size of the resort for walking and running as well as the monkeys and coati (racoons) you can see sometimes going through the jungle boardwalk. We had mostly sunny days and a day or two of rain so it was an amazing vacation and everyone was super friendly and helpful.

Catalonia Riviera Maya: Amazing stay
Everything was awesome. Couple of suggestions. Add some more traditional food items in buffet . Some Indian, Chinese and Middle Eastern dishes . Need to work more on dampness in the rooms . Oh also juices especially orange juice should be freshly squeezed. ( if possible) . And also it’s a bit expensive when purchasing something. Us $ is not cheep when we convert Canadian $ in us . Prices were very high .

Catalonia Riviera Maya: Could've been better
My family and I stayed at the resort from June 26th to July 3rd for a week. The resort itself is aesthetically pleasing, and the dining options, including buffets, a la carte restaurants, and snack bar, were quite enjoyable. The pools were meticulously maintained and consistently clean. We found ample seating available at both the buffets and snack bar throughout our stay.
However, we encountered challenges with our accommodations. Despite my prior request via email two weeks before our arriv[... read more]al for our room to be near my mother's, we were allocated a room on the 4th floor while hers was on the 2nd. Given that we were traveling with our 5-month-old, proximity to my mother was important for us. Although the front desk assured us they would relocate us by the second day, we were never contacted. Furthermore, upon check-in, we discovered that the air conditioning in our room was malfunctioning. Despite notifying the staff immediately, and multiple attempts by technicians to fix it, the issue persisted, leading to an uncomfortable first night for us and our infant.
After enduring three days in a sweltering room without resolution, we escalated our concerns to management. Subsequently, we were relocated, but this delay consumed a significant portion of our seven-day vacation. Additionally, we found the resort's booking system for a la carte dinners overly complex, as reservations could only be made on the day of dining, requiring us to wake up early each morning to secure a spot.
Due to these specific issues, I am unlikely to choose this resort for future stays.

Haven Riviera Cancun: Not good
People were awesome just one detail someone came to visit me for the ni that I paid the night pass and went for dinner. Now they asked her to leave at 2 am in the middle of nowhere. I had to leave with her since this lady was a very good friend of mine. There is no actual beach and the sea was full of seaweeds, I knew there are seaweeds, but did not expect that much.

Except the beach and seaweeds, resort was pretty good.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Great resort
the hotel is good and the room sizes are good. The pools are amazing and the kids pool as well. Unable to access the beach as there is rocks. The food seems to be abit on the low side as missing flavor. but one thing is the pool bar, how they make the drinks is like watered down or something as you get the taste at all. and if you ask for a different drink with the bottles they have on the shelf they dont want to make it.
and one thing did not like is, they have the pool restaurant by the kids[... read more] pool, and the kids are hungry and want to go eat they want you to change cloths and come in to the pool restaurant. that is something does not make sense.
