Playa Pesquero: Beautiful Resort. Great food.

Fantastic resort. Service was great. Loved the atmosphere at the beer garden. Kid friendly but adult fun at the same time. Food was great for Cuba and they had ketchup, salt, and pepper at the tables. One thing is they were renovating which was a bit of an eye sore, but just means this will be an even better resort in the future.

Playa Pesquero: Just perfect for us!

Found the hotel to be perfect for a relaxing, do nothing, vacation! Food was very good...lobster and shrimp every day, but a good steak difficult to find. Beach is fabulous, pool is just as amazing! Drinks were better than expected especially the coffee coach and the liquor cart in the lobby. I would not recommend this resort to anyone who wants to be touring a lot from the hotel....not much in the area. Water sports are limited as well...big swells not far off shore so novice sailors, like [... read more] my husband and myself were a bit intimidated. All in all, we really enjoyed this vacation and will definitely be returning.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Excellant hotel

Although it is classified as three stars but it is better than four stars. Everything is above and beyond expectation. Such a great deal for economy minded travelers I would not hesitate to my recommend it to my friends.

Overall a great vacation! Beautiful beach and friendly staff. Multiple pools, bars and restaurants to choose from. Renovations and upgrades currently happening to brighten up the different style accommodations. Close to market and water sports available. You won't be dissapointed!

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Nice to be Back at Club Amigo

This was the fourth time we have visited Club Amigo but the first time in five years. We met a number of guests who had been there many more times than us. Most of us have formed personal relationships with staff members and this makes for a family atmosphere. There is no doubt that the physical plant at Club Amigo is aging but the setting is to die for. Playa Pesquero: So much fun!

The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We were spoiled for our honeymoon; bouquet of flowers, bottle of champagne, breakfast in bed (so much food), special a la carte dinner, etc. The resort has so many activities available to do, we didn't bother with any outside excursions. There is a cute market down the road, about a 5 minute walk.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Beautiful resort

This is a lovely resort. It was my fourth visit, the past two stays being in the Royal section. The grounds are lush gardens which are a delight to walk around. The staff are amazing, always smiling and eager to assist. This is an adult only resort that is ( especially in the Royal Section) very peaceful. Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Rest & Relaxation At A Reasonable Price

When comparing Cuban resorts using Trip Central's comparison grid, one of the places that usually show up when looking at value for money is Club Atlantico Amigo. You can get the same amenities and meals as at the more expensive resorts .... if you choose your rooms carefully. Selecting your rooms in the main "hotel" section where you're in the middle of the main action or the older "motel" section won't give you the same experience as a room in the "villas" or the "bungalows". And that's where the value-for-money is if you're on a limited budget and are watching your pennies. Many folks complain about the food at Cuban resorts, principally because they stick to the buffets and haven't discovered the à la carte restaurants. With several hundred people eating at the same time at the buffet, dining can become an unpleasant experience regardless of which resort you stay at. However, it's very easy to enlighten your dining experience, whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, with the à la carte restaurants, Club Amigo Atlantico was one of the first of the Cuban resorts to open to tourists. It's often described as being "tired". But it's not so much "tired" as a lack of attention to the small things .... like doors that don't open all the way (something simple to fix), or diverter valves on the showers that don't work, or sidewalks with chunks missing that could be easily fixed, or handrails that need to be replaced along the shoreline..... it's a lack of attention to detail on the part of housekeeping and maintenance management that tends to give Club Amigo the 3 stars instead of the 4 stars. Other than that, if you're looking for value-for-money on a limited budget, and you keep your eyes open for the villas or the bungalows, it's a good place for your Cuban vacation.

Don Lino Hotel: Authentic through and through.

A most wonderful and special place. Looking so very forward to going there again. The upper level of the wood framed bungalow is where I stayed. I awoke to the crowing of a rooster and fell asleep to the crashing of waves. The people, particular area and land captured my heart.

Playa Costa Verde: Great Visit To The Playa Costa Verde

My Mother and I had a very relaxing time at this lovely resort. The rooms are very spacious and the grounds are always well kept. Probably the most pleasant thing about this resort is the friendliness of the staff. Cuban hospitality at its finest. It looks like they are making an effort in updating the hotel (new patio around the pool, many new furnishings in the hotel lobby as well as our room). Hopefully new mattresses on the beds are in the plans as the ones in our room really need to be rep [... read more]laced. We enjoyed all of the a-la-cartes, especially the Japanese restaurant. All in all, an enjoyable holiday.

Brisas Guardalavaca: Hotel Review

The hotel was nice, the rooms could use some upgrades especially the washrooms. It looked like there was either black mold or dirt on the ceiling in the bathroom in our room. You can't drink their tap water, so you need bottled water. Only one is provided upon arrival in your room, after that you must either go to the bar to get it filled or pay for more bottles. The water in the Dominican last year was provided for free. Also there is no stocked fridge in your room.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Some Positives Some Negatives

Grounds: The grounds are nice, many places to walk and explore. 4 beaches to choose from. No weeds and nice sand. Bars: Many around the resort. Mojitos only at the pirate beach bar. Best pina coladas at the lobby bar where they will actually use milk in their mix. Ask for the better rums in your drinks otherwise your getting the low end rum. Havana club or Ron Cubay. Rooms: [... read more] Tropical rooms are a bit small, no blackout curtains but they have everything you need. Was in a good location though, first floor not to far from lobby and buffet. Dining: Food is not the greatest. Avoid the Spanish and Cuban restaurants and go for the Mediterranean and Italian restaurants. No one told us, and we never got to try it but they serve roasted pig for lunch at the pool 2 times a week at the main complex which has the tropical rooms. Looked like the best lunch you can get all week. Pig is roasted outside on charcoal. There are 2 buffets to choose from the buffet close to the evening stage has great roasted pig for dinner, is quieter with live music but a bit less food selection than the buffet at the main complex. Evening shows: They had 2 good shows out of the 7nights. One was a dancing show the other was a show in the water. Service: It was ok but could have been better. Bartenders could have served faster rather talking among each other or doing something rather than serving. We asked that our room not be cleaned for the week to save them on cleaning yet it took us 3 times and 3 different ppl to tell before they finally got it. The wait staff was good at the buffets and restaurants. They have a lot of servers at the bars and shows which is a plus. Tours: Don't take the bus trip into Holguin for 15cuc that the hotel provides. It's a rip off, Its should be a free shuttle or 5cuc at the most, nothing to see there. Your better off spending your money on an official tour. Also, seeing how bad of a shape the country looks outside the resort is hard. Majority of ppl live in poverty and the infrastructure is falling apart. Talking to some locals, the communist government does not give them enough to live and some are forced to steal to survive. Their wage is 1.30 canadian a day. I'm boycotting Cuba all together until the government makes some positive changes for it's people, gives them more freedom and more money. Spend your money on another island.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Favourite Resort

Just got back home from spending 7 days at Club Amigo Guardalavaca. This has been my second time at this resort, and it's still my favourite. The beach is beautiful, 4 pool choices, depending if you want a quiet swim, or a friendly get together. The staff are amazing, if you ever go to the lobby bar ask for Eddie. He's amazing, we were regular customers every night, and when he saw us, he had our drinks ordered ,and served them with a smile. The food is what I expect, it is Cuba. They don't have [... read more] ingredients and spices like we do in Canada, but I must say, they try their best to please everyone. If you ever go to Panchitos Buffet in Standard Section, ask for Miada. She is a wonderful woman who always has a smile on her face. Both myself and my husband love this resort, and we will be back next spring, 2018.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: gorgeous beach, great scuba diving and wonderful people

Club Amigo is a age worn resort that might have been quite nice in her yesteryears but it is in need of some tlc. If you're looking for a varied cuisine I'd suggest looking elsewhere. But where the resort scores big is the gorgeous expansive beach, aqua marine shallows to Wade in and the warm lovely people who staff this resort. I went scuba diving and was not disappointed by the marine life, colourful coral and caverns and huge walls. Playa Pesquero: Playa Pesquero 3.5 - 4 Stars

The hotel rooms was very clean but dated, the grounds was being worked on but required fixing up. The staff was outstanding and service was excellent. Overall this is a very nice resort just requiring up updating and repairs to the grounds. The was food was excellent and plentiful. The statement you hear being used "remember it's Cuba", this is an old statement which no longer applies in most cases as this resort does have a segregated area which looks as if would be equivalent to 4.5 - 5 Stars  [... read more]in North America which makes it evident that the resorts can be compared to the rating scales for the resorts everywhere.

We loved it. And it really is all inclusive-nothing except whole lobster and specialty whisky has an extra cost . The beach is the most beautiful I have seen, with turquoise water (really), powder white sand, lots of shade areas and lots of sun to choose from. The beach is a long strip closed at each end with a rocky hilly spur going into the ocean, and shared by one other resort about a kilometer down. It is never crowded. The two bars on the beach are friendly, attendants are spaced every 150 meters to bring out beach loungers for guests, a towel exchange is handy, the water is soft and friendly. There are very friendly feral cats and kittens about in all hotel's extensive grounds, beautiful gardens, pitch and putt, pools, bars galore and lots of space. It is never crowded anywhere. The hotel itself has two centres, in Luna (our side) and Mares( our daughter's and her husbands). We both had stunning ocean views. Our room was on the top floor, airy, large, and comfortable. Only the extra pillows on the bed that weren't covered with a case were a bit strange-they seemed a bit too exposed for a bed. There are a few weird placements of plugs, some temperature changes in the shower water.... The food was really good. I was warned it was monotonous, and it wasn't at all. The buffet stations are plentiful, with freshly cooked chicken, beef, pork, seafood of all sorts to your taste. Pasta stations are delicious, and morning eggs-omelettes, poached, over easy are quick and yummy. There seemed a special changing station every evening, with Japanese Onigiri and tempura one night (yum), a roast pig another, a turkey another and so on. The fresh salads weren't as varied, but the fruit and juices were scrumptious. We loved the fried bananas flamed with rum. More yum. Small restaurants with servers are about-one close to the buffet area in Luna with a romantic sea view for breakfast, specialty ones to be booked (do it in the first few days ). We loved the Italian, and found the French mediocre. Perhaps the most outstanding features for me were the complete safety I felt in Cuba (this is in contrast to the unease I have sometimes felt in other countries) and the friendliness of the staff at the hotel and the people we encountered on our little outings . Staff remember your preferences for food and drink, clean the areas constantly (the hotel is spotless), and seem to like people. No tips are required or expected, though we left pesos for the room cleaner and our servers at meals and the odd bar drink, and many specialty coffees at the coffee bar. The coffee is, by the way, the best I have ever tasted. There are lots of outings you can sign up for at the hotel, scooters you can rent, horse and buggy (or just horse rides) you can arrange. Money can be changed easily at the government bank station in the Luna side, the gift shops don't charge more than any other area we saw, and there is no persistent pressure to buy trinkets or wandering vendors. I like that a lot. I will go again.

Sol Turquesa Beach: Wonderful family time

We had such a great time. Staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely a kid & family friendly resort. The room and resort was not fancy and could use some updating but it's clean and comfortable. Food was plentiful and great for kids; adults might find the food a little basic; not for foodies. The beaches were incredible! The water is a deep turquoise and the sand goes on forever. Cayo Coco is an unbelievably beautiful place.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Best bang for your buck

The resort is very cozy some parts are a little dated still fine The grounds are kept very nice and all staff are exceptually nice the food is great ther are various snack bars around the resort one buffet resturaunt has a little more to offer then the other so all in all you wont go hungry

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Great vacation

First time to Holguin area of Cuba, not disappointed. Well, maybe by the weather unfortunately. Still, I was able to find a nice place to relax even with the rain. Food was easily the best of all the resorts I've been to, but I'm not overly picky on that. Always a nice selection of fish and meats to be grilled. Service for drinks at the buffet was varied, sometimes they were spot on, others not at all. The Japanese a la carte was great! Room was very spacious and well kept. Though the door loc [... read more]k had problems. I had to go to the lobby 4 times in my stay to get my key checked/changed. 3 times back to back within an hour. The beach was perfect as are most cuban beaches, decent stretch of sand. . Plenty of coral life close to shore for snorkling. Last day was a bit of a let down, lots of rain, no late check out, no room for changing. But I managed to find a nice spot near the beach to relax in, even during the rain, turned out to be the most relaxing part of the trip.
