We have been travelling to Mexico for 25 years and this was one of our best. For our 50th wedding anniversary, we brought our 3 kids, their husbands and wives and our 7 grandchildren, ages 12 to 18. One of our friends recommended the Grand Sirenis for children and they were right on target.
The rooms are modern and bright. We were happy with the jetted tub and the shower. White tiled floors were easy to clean and house keeping kept them bright.
The resort is huge. My wife's step counter reach[... read more]ed 13,000 one day. Well distributed so that each of the pools were available, but not over crowded. The two pools popular with our grandkids each had nets for volleyball and water polo. The pool nearest our room had an ice cream shop, that was well used.
Buffet options were great. From breakfast to supper, we always had great choices.
While there we were able to book both the Japanese, and the Steak House for all 15 of us. My wife and I also ate at the Mexican, the Italian and the Mediterranean, which we really enjoyed.
The Lazy River was very popular with all of us. It became a place for everyone to relax.
Our only wish would be for a better beach. It is not only rocky, but very small over all. Snorkeling was fun, but walking miles on the sand was not a thing. My wife and I went to the "secret" lagoon. It was too wavy that day but a very interesting site.
During our 2 weeks there, the elevator for our second floor room died and was out of business for a couple of days. The elevator to the main buffet/reception, worked the first day and not after that.
Staff were great. The concierge people were very helpful. Isaac was our guy and he was friendly and greeted us every time we passed. The bars and restaurants were well placed and we made good use of them all. A number of us liked to finish our swim day with cappuccinos at the coffee bar. Toward the end of our stay we had rain and that turned the tile floors into skating rinks.
We would certainly recommend this resort to others.

Platinum Yucatan Princess: A little tired - food was great!
We enjoyed our time at this resort, but felt that the resort is a little tired, and the staff are not very knowledgeable due to being newly hired. The majority of the staff are brand new, due to covid. They were very nice, but needed lots of training!
The beach area of the adults only resort was absolutely terrible - don't even go there. Full of seaweed (which they do not remove), and sand bags, trying to hold the buildings up. We went to the Beach of the sister hotel and it was much bett[... read more]er, but did have a strong sulphur smell.
The rooms are okay! Our friend got locked in her toilet room for 1/2 hour while her husband and maintenance tried to get her out. She was also electrocuted by the makeup mirror in her room - not properly grounded. When she tried to speak to Management, they would not return her phone call, and finally someone talked to her and offered her a bottle of wine! She should have been offered a spa day at the minimum! I would recommend asking for a swim up room, in Building 1 or 3, as those pool areas get lots of sun. The Platinum swim up rooms were mostly in full shade, so quite cold. The main adult pool with swim up bar, was fun, but loud, and water a cesspool at the end of the day from no one going to the bathroom, instead using the pool as their personal toilet.
The restaurants were good, but their pants only policy for men is a joke. They do not allow a nice pair of dress shorts, but you can wear your old track pants, or holey jeans. Does not make much sense.
I would give this resort a 3 star review. They do not deserve to have a 4.5 star rating.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Beautiful resort
We had an amazing time. The resort was clean, food was good & staff friendly.
The only things I was disappointed with was it took us 2 hours for 11 of us to check in. There was another group that arrived at the same time. I would have thought Sunwing would have advised the hotel & there would have been adequate staff to accommodate but there wasn’t.
It was also disappointing to discover we could only reserve from one restaurant (Japanese one) unless we were preferred. Each morning we[... read more] went on the app at 8:00 but that restaurant was booked. Thank goodness we did manage to get in our last day. We did manage to get into a couple others but went early.
We discovered our departure flight was delayed by a couple hours but unfortunately was told the bus was picking us us at 6:30 am. It wasn’t til we were waiting in lobby twice that the bus was delayed by an hour each time. I would have thought they would have communicated. If the flight was delayed so would the bus. Would have been nice to sleep longer & able to have a relaxing breakfast.

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: A beautiful place rich in culture, music and beauty
The rooms are modern, clean and comfortable. There are staff on site to provide information or to assist you. Three main pool areas, depending upon your preference, these areas are constantly being cleaned. Main buffet has lots of selection, with 4 alternate restaurant options. It was clean, well stocked, the staff are friendly, courteous and respectful (all of them). This is a place where Mexican families come to visit Excaret Park, so you aren't 100% tourists... I also enjoyed this experi[... read more]ence. There is lots of wildlife, and the main beach area has fish swimming alongside you. The park is a short walk away, with a spectacular Mexican show, much to see and do. This country is rich in culture, music and beauty. If your an outdoors person, the unlimited park pass is recommended. From swimming with dolphins, seeing giant sea turtles, the aviary...you can't see it all in a day. Its not far from the airport. One of my best vacations.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Nice place
We recently spent 9 days at this resort and had a great holiday. The resort was beautiful and the staff were exemplary. I hope this review is helpful to anyone else considering a vacation at the Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal.
Beach: The sand was a little rough and not comfortable to walk on with bare feet. There were hard-packed stretches of sand that were comfortable, as most of the sandy areas were quite deep. The staff worked to keep the beach clear of seaweed, but most of the beach area h[... read more]ad seaweed along the shore, and it was rocky in the water. If you're looking to spend a lot of time at the beach on your vacation, Cozumel's sand/water is a lot friendlier.
Pools: The pools were great...lots of pools to choose from, and very clean with lots of room to swim/float around. Swim-up bar is a little small for a resort of this size. Infiniti pool is beautiful, but water was really cold - much moreso than the other pools.
Service: All of the staff were fantastic at this resort. Lots of staff available, and everyone was happy to answer any questions. Servers in restaurants were particularly friendly and attentive, and confirmed how much the Mexican people are the most hospitable in the world.
Food: We ate at the buffet for breakfast and lunch, and occasionally for dinner, and we enjoyed it every time. Tables were always clean, and the food itself was nicely displayed. Most food tasted great at the buffet, although it was often a little on the cool side. The a la carte restaurants offered excellent food (especially the steak house) and fantastic service, as well as beautiful presentation of the food and great drinks.
Rooms: Our room was large and comfortable, and we made good use of the balcony. The mini-fridge was stocked with water, beer and chips every day. Housekeeping was a little inconsistent. Some days, the room hadn't been cleaned by 3pm (when we returned from pool for a siesta), so we went without housekeeping on those days. Bathroom had rainfall showerhead and a glass half-door - not my favourite, but there was lots of space around the sink for our toiletries.
Value: Although we had a fabulous time at this resort, I feel it was a bit overpriced. We stayed at a much more affordable resort in Cabo last year and that resort's room/food/amenities were just a little better. I wouldn't call this resort "luxury" although it is very nice. There were a few spots where repairs were visible and poorly done (in the shower, for example). I would stay here again if the price was lower, but wouldn't pay what we paid for this resort again.
Location: Beautiful waterfront location and lots of lovely views. It's about 90 min from Cancun airport and an hour from Playa del Carmen. Excursions seem to run out of Playa, which made for some long days with the bus ride and picking up/dropping off at other resorts along the way.
Other notes: I loved the design of this resort and thought it was well-planned. For example, the rooms are in small apartment complexes that are located away from the pools and common areas that can be noisy. They're also positioned so that from your balcony, you aren't facing anyone else on their balcony - nice for privacy. In front of the lobby, there are 3 levels for golf carts, buses, taxis to pick up and drop off - 1 for on-resort transportation (golf carts), 1 for transportation to other connected resorts, and 1 for outside resort. Smart, and very effective at keeping congestion to a minimum out front. Golf carts are everywhere and it's easy and comfortable to hop on/off without ever having to wait more than a few minutes. There's a central shopping area on the grounds (Hacienda) that has some bars and lots of places to buy souvenirs. Good selection of products, although a little pricey, as expected.
The flooring throughout most of the resort is smooth tile. It looks really nice, but is very slippery, and we almost wiped out several times. It's a problem around the pools, mostly, where the tiles are wet, and also on stairs and ramps. I hope they replace this flooring with something more suitable around the pools, and across the entire resort. After a rainfall, just walking through the lobby in everyday flip flops was treacherous. HOWEVER, although I've brought up some less than favourable points, this is a lovely resort where we had a wonderful holiday, and I'm sure anyone who visits here will have a lovely holiday too. I hope this long-winded review is helpful!
I am writing this review of the Barcelo Maya Beach Resort in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. I have been vacationing in Mexico for many years and this is my first stay at this resort. My travel agent advised me that she had a better experience at this resort than the one I have been going to for many years. Unfortunately it did not live up to my expectations. That's not to say that it is a beautiful resort, however, there are a few improvements that must be made to the resort. Before going on my vacat[... read more]ion I read numerous reviews about the resort. The negatives that were reviewed were present but not as severe as most mentioned. Again, Barcelo Maya Beach Resort is a beautiful resort. My first disappointment was the food. Not the variety, but how almost all the food displayed in the buffets were cold. Even as they were brought out. I have never experienced that before on a Mayan Riviera resort. Almost all staff was amazing, although a few servers seemed like they gave some attitude (but that's understandable considering the amount of staff they have). I was very kind, thankful and left tips, so it definitely was not from any vibes I was sending to them. The second was the musky smell coming from our room as we entered for the first time. I expect those conditions because of where we are, however, it would make a great first impression if the room smelled better. The grounds were amazingly kept. Very clean. The front desk staff was always very helpful. Thanks Alan. And the pool bar staff was great as well. Shout out to the amazing Rosy. All in all, it was a great stay. My views about this resort are just to make some suggestions on where they could improve, that's all. If it's your first time to Mexico, you can't go wrong staying here. You will be impressed. Unfortunately I have been exposed to a better resort.

Riu Tequila: Beautiful Resort
This was our first trip to Mexico in 30 years. We didn’t know what to expect especially after COVID.The resort is well maintained ,extremely clean and well layed out.The fact it’s located in a secure gated community was an extra measure of comfort and it’s a 20 minute walk to main Shopping Area(5thAve).
There are 3 restaurants with no reservations required as well as a buffet and all in all the food was good especially breakfast.
Lunch was also available near the pool area serviced by a b[... read more]arbecue which was beyond fantastic.Best burgers around and the variety of barbecued meats, steak, chicken and pork was great. We pretty much ate there every day.
Our favourite part was the 24 hour sports bar that had food available and we were able to watch most of our football, hockey and soccer games.
My only criticism is the fact there was only 1 swim up bar.Being a popular location it became very crowded as the day went on .
The beach which is located across the street was beautiful and well maintained as well. There is a shuttle every 10 minutes and also a lunch buffet/ bar available there too so you can easily spend the whole day down there.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Very pretty resort
This is my 5th time at this resort. This was my first time back after Covid and things have changed quite a bit. We used to have access to the other resorts and now you don’t, house keeping was poor, and did not restock items. Friendly staff and food was still good. Grounds are beautiful and still very well kept. For the price i was just disappointed in the lack of access to other resorts and the lack of extra services we used to get. Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Very nice resort.
The grounds were very clean. Staff were friendly and very accommodating. There was a variety of food at the buffet--too much to choose from-all delicious. Not being close to the beach was disappointing--It would have been nice to be walking distance. Overall, our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. Being a 15 minute bus ride to Tulum was a bonus. We ventured out one day.

Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: Good escape from Toronto
We overall had a really good time, but want to highlight some areas below that prevented this from being 5/5.
The beach was unfortunately seaweedy and not clear as advertised. We thought we booked the swim out pool but got a garden view of smelly swamps instead.
There were many kids running around the resort, especially in restaurants despite us thinking we booked an adult only experience at the Hideaway as advertised. Liqour offered was not premium as advertised.
Food was great, service wa[... read more]s great, and weather was great. Resort design and size was also very upscale. For us the beach, food & service will make or break the experience. We had hoped to get all three considering we spent 2.3k per person.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Exceeds Expectations
Clean cozy rooms, beautiful facilities, restaurants are amazing. Two notes to share, it involves a lot of walking to get from A to B, there is a shuttle but it would be great if there are a couple more. The second note is, the entertainment is on the shy side during the day but still a lot of fun, highly recommend this hotel especially for families with kids.
