The Bahia Principe Grand Cayacoa
Very clean rooms , restaurants, pools and beaches! Grounds are well cared for and attractive. Staff is extremely friendly and goes out of their way to connect with guests and provide service. Small buffet area which we liked! Clean, attractive, fresh foods! Well prepared to accommodate personalized choices. Would definitely return!!

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Overall amazing time!
Overall I had an amazing time at this resort and I would go back to this resort!
PROS
-the resort was safe! As females, we had no problem wandering the resort and beach solo. Even going into the town on a city tour, it didn’t feel dangerous for us. This was the main factor I was looking at when booking this resort.
-the demographic was mostly older adults and families. We both loved it. Added that extra level of safety for us. We weren’t looking to party so this was perfect!
-the food was[... read more] good with lots of variety, even for vegetarians. Never got sick or felt ill with the food. The a la carte options were delicious. Great service there. Book early though! They fill up fast.
-there are a lot of excursions nearby! I ended up going on 4 during my 7 day visit. Two of which I did solo. Highly recommend zip lining at Country World Adventure Park, a city tour with the cable car, and Monkey land.
-you can book offsite excursions at the resort as well. We booked a snorkeling tour in Sosúa for half a day. It was only $40 US. Speedy, the worker at the booth, is super nice! Afterwards he asked how I liked the excursion with a smile on his face.
-the mall is a 2 minute walk away with many souvenirs options. It’s full of other tourists too exploring the resort plaza.
-the resort has a variety of activities throughout the day, such as morning yoga, aqua Zumba, Zumba, bingo, bike rides, and more.
-nightly entertainment had a different theme daily such as a silent disco, karaoke, couples games, boys vs girls challenge, live music, hula hoop contest, magician, a white attire party. The shows are not high quality but still entertaining
-lastly, the resort is a very quick ride to and from the airport.
CONS
-some of the staff were rude to us. At one point I was yelled at aggressively for trying to help to move a chair as I was leaving the quiet pool. It was very strange. When the entertainment staff were trying to get females up to do the hula hoop contest, one guy (not in uniform but I think worked there) aggressively grabbed my wrist to go up. I firmly pulled back. Out of the 7 days we were there, we were only offered a drink once at the buffet. I flagged someone down near the end of our stay for a glass of wine (she was serving others wine), she served me white wine and said she’d return with red wine for my friend but never did. The housekeeping service took away our towels and never returned them. I asked the front desk twice for towels. They told me housekeeping eventually comes back with the towels but they never did for us. We ended up just keeping the do not disturb sign on the door. Front desk seemed irritated anytime we had questions. It was our first resort trip so we didn’t fully know what to expect or where things were. Half the bartenders were not friendly (mostly at the main bar. The quiet pool typically had nice bartenders, especially one guy was always smiling). We did tip all the service well and were friendly. Other resort guests I chatted with (who were retired) had such positive things to say on their experience with the staff so I’m not sure why our experience unfortunately was this way.
-the beach is full of salespeople! My last morning there, I laid by the beach for 10 minutes. During this time, 6 people came up to me trying to sell stuff. A few were pushy. I left out of annoyance. When I went to the beach in the afternoon earlier in the week to read, salespeople weren’t pushy. However, the wind is very strong and blew sand in my face a lot.
-we noticed some locals do stay there Saturday to Sunday. Two guys were hitting on us using Google translate and not taking no as an answer. This of course could happen anywhere though and thankfully they left us alone eventually.

Lifestyle Tropical Beach Resort: Sub-par hotel
The food, although somewhat bland is the only thing I can recommend. From the high-pressure sales for the timeshare to the lack of hot water in the room to the un-enthusiastic waitstaff, I would not recommend this hotel to my friends. I have been to the DR about 10 times and this has been by far the worst resort.
Very beautiful, recently renovated resort. Nice beach with lots of seating and food and bar nearby. Poolside seating limited to those that wake up at the crack of dawn and throw down their towels. Resorts not that big. Food and service was ok.

Riu Republica: Great resort for adults only!
Riu Republica is a great resort for adults only. Of course if you travel in March like I did there will be thousands of teenagers from the US universities spring break, so get ready for LOUD! That being said, these teenagers where all very respectful and it was nice seeing them bonding and having a great time. The resort is super clean, rooms are quiet, many restaurants to choose from, food is o.k. (I'm from Montreal, nothing beats our food) clubs every where, lots of entertainment. There is[... read more] theme parties every second day bringing you by bus to other Riu hotels. If you want to dance, get drunk, then you get on the bus! The water park is always fun, but the beach is beautiful, and where you want to spend your time, depending on the day, you can get a calm beach or vary waivy, which is always fun. The Riu casino is small, really small, out dated, and depressing. If you are in to casino's I recommend you pay the $20 US to go to the Hard Rock Cafe Hotel Casino. It is really nice, very big, and there is a lot of shops down the strip from the casino. The employees are friendly, so please bring a lot of $1 bills so you can TIP (To Insure Promptness) as it is always appreciated. I would always tip $1 everytime I grab drinks at the bar or served a drink, a couple dollars when I went for lunch at the buffet, and $5 for a sit down dinner. It is so important to tip, giving back.
All in all, it was great to relax at this beautiful resort. I'm happy I booked with Louise Endean from Trip Central, she was amazing with her service from start to finish.
Have fun, bon voyages!

VIK Hotel Arena Blanca: Nice resort
Beautiful grounds, nice beach. Not much in the way of night life, just their Dominican shows. So if you like the more quieter resorts, this is perfect. Food was great. They switch up the food at the buffet each night, surprised one night that they even had sushi.
Would definitely go back again.

Lifestyle Tropical Beach Resort: Wonderful Vacation if You Have Reasonable Expectations
We went to the Lifestyle Tropical Beach Resort for a two week all inclusive vacation. It was a positive experience on the most part. We had requested a ground floor room with pool access and that's what we got. The room was a basic hotel room with nothing special. King size bed with no sitting area. The bathroom (shower and toilet) are individually enclosed with frosted glass without any partition between the sleeping area. Sink is open between the two enclosures. This wasn't an issue for us oth[... read more]er than a night time run to the bathroom meant the whole room was illuminated when the light was turned on. The safe in the closet was not working, but we didn't really need it. The room was not squeaky clean but was passable. Things like the ceiling fan and air-conditioned vent needed to be cleaned and corners in the bathroom really needed to be scrubbed. Linen and towels were clean and the room smelled fresh. Pillows were good which is not always the case in hotel rooms. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion as well as soap and basic amenities like a small sewing kit, shaving kit and even toothbrush were all provided and packaged nicely. The room was cleaned daily, fresh towels and linen were provided as often as requested. The cleaning and dining room staff were wonderful and very happy to help in anyway they could.
The food in the main buffet restaurant and the al-a-carte restaurants was good to very good. Moonlight restaurant in particular was awesome (great food, service and located right in the sand on the beach). The fresh grilling stations around the buffet always had great options and the cooks were happy to grill your bacon a little longer if it wasn't crispy enough from the buffet. Salad and fruit bars were clean and well stocked at every meal. Desert section was a real treat every lunch and dinner meal. Table servers were very attentive and courteous (just a side note: when you arrive at the buffet restaurant find a table before you head to the buffet, the staff will come with your cutlery and take your drink orders, then when you come back to the table with your food everything will be waiting for you).
The pool areas were clean and well maintained. There is a large multi pool area that is open to everyone. We were located next to the adult only pool which is smaller, but also every nice. Pool areas were monitored by lifeguards and security staff regularly throughout the day. Cabanas and lounge chairs were cleaned daily (and as at other resorts you have to get there early if you want something).
The beach access was limited (you had to go through the VIP membership area and down multiple sets of stairs to get to the water level. Not the nicest beach (it is the Atlantic side of the island and to many shops and vendors to really be beautiful). However the view out to the ocean and the sounds of the surf are captivating.
Travel to and from the airport was on large air-conditioned buses that were clean.
While we really enjoyed our vacation and came home rested and refreshed there were some things that made our vacation less than ideal. The constant badgering by the Lifestyle sales people (don't get suckered into the welcome tour, it's just a 3 hour long high pressure sales pitch for membership into Lifestyle timeshare stuff) was a pain in the ass. The hustling for cigar sales, spa treatments and everything else really gets tiring after a few days. Everywhere you went there was a tipping box or jar prominently displayed. We're generous, but after two weeks of everyone with their hand out it just got to you.
Night time entertainment was pretty awesome. Incredible dancers, costumes and staging. Sometimes the music was too loud. Daytime entertainment and activities around the main pool were fun and loud with lots of laughing and sometimes live music.
Lastly, we found that the clientele of this resort seemed to be friendlier that other places that we've been. Lots of people were happy to stop and visit and introduce themselves. We met a number of very nice folks and families that were enjoying their vacation just like we were. I would recommend this location to others as long as you go with reasonable expectation (you get what you pay for - it's 3 star, not 5 star).

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Another 10 days in paradise.
This was our 3rd visit to the Senator this winter and each time the staff out does themselves. Love the hospitality and friendship we receive each visit. On a sad note we will sure miss our friend Alejandro Castillo who will be leaving the Senator next month for Morocco to manage another hotel. As general manager he has worked hard to make the Senator the wonderful facility it is today. We are already planning another 2 week tour in November. Looking forward to seeing all our family then

Grand Sirenis Punta Cana Resort: Amazing every time!
This is our 4th time returning to this resort. First of all, you are going to find mixed reviews about every resort you look at, so take each with a grain of salt.
The workers at the resort will go out of their way to make sure you have an amazing stay! Shout out to Rosa for her wonderful service, as well as Karla, Maria, and Pedro R. Those people had made our trip memorable!
Just returned from here only a few days ago and we are already looking to book our 5th trip to the resort.

We have recommended this to our friends and family who have also been to the resort who now say they "have found their resort!"
So many little things to go here that you will never be bored. The layout is great as it allows folks to be spread out and not be falling over each other.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Relaxing trip
The hotel and rooms were very clean. Front desk was very helpful in arranging a appointment with a dentist and transportation to get there and back. Restaurants were nice and the food was good. The guests at this hotel seemed like a older crowd and the staff were very attentive. The only thing it lacked, was entertainment. But would definately recommend.
We stayed in Villa 91 with a pool view on the ground floor. This was an ideal room for us. This was close all amenities. Beach, pool, buffets and sports bar were all within a 2 minute walk.
The Room: these beds are the most comfortable that I’ve ever had at a resort. Plenty of pillows, lots of closet space, very spacious room with a pull out couch if needed. Be sure to use the room service as they are very quick and efficient. We ordered the smash burgers and had them within 15 minutes as we[... read more] arrived to the resort after the lunch buffet closed and before dinner was open. The bathroom is spacious as well and had full size shampoo/conditioner/soap available. The resort wristbands are great as they act as your room key too. No more forgetting it in the room!
The Pool: There are 3 pools available, we spent all our time at the one closest to the beach. This is where all the activities are held. Great swim up bar with friendly bartenders making you whatever you wish! We enjoyed the mango daiquiris! Pool is very clean and lots of chairs to be had, no real need to reserve very early.
The Beach: the beach is very deep and if you enjoy walking the beach you can go for miles! Lots of beach chairs and palapas available. If you enjoy sunrises, they are beautiful around 6:30 at the end of March when we were there.
Restaurants: The beach buffet for breakfast and lunch, Caicu, is very good. Not as big of a selection as the larger buffet at the back of the resort but a quieter and less busy location and you can’t beat the view! Winston our server most days is amazing ! The food is never running out, lots of bacon, crepes, fresh omelet and egg station.
We also went to MEAT restaurant in the Ambar section for adults only. This is the steakhouse and it was good. Service was a little slow but they were very busy.
Yurta is the Mongolian restaurant and we enjoyed it very much. A nice quiet atmosphere and very good food. We got the choose exactly what went into the dish and the sauce to prepare it with. Very nice to be able to customize your dinner.
Mikado the Japanese teppanyaki restaurant was great. Dinner and a show is always good entertainment.
Sports Bar: this is an excellent choice for lunch or snacks all day. You can watch the TV’s with all kinds of sports and enjoy top shelf drinks. While you’re there be sure to order the smash burger and sweet potato fries and the mozzarella sticks. The best!!
Staff: From check in to check out all staff is very welcoming, accommodating and friendly. They introduce themselves as ask to let them know if you need anything. Keep in mind that there is also a concierge on the main floor of each room building to ask and assist with any concerns or accommodation requests. If a restaurant is full they can help to try to get you into it. Top notch service.
There are lots of trams to take you between resorts as there is a lot of walking between all sections.
Remember that staff does appreciate tips and they are very grateful.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Amazing Resort
We love the resort. Very clean and staff was very friendly. Beds in our room was very comfortable that we slept in everyday. Food was excellent and tasty, never was hungry. The Italian and Steak house were our favorites.
