Beautiful hotel , one of the most modern resorts we’ve stayed at, very clean, staff friendly.
Downside was there appeared to be a beach buffet that wasn’t operational except for a wedding that was happening. There was a snack bar but you sat down and ordered - one lunch time we waited an hour for burger and fries. Really would have liked for a beach buffet style (nachos , pizza, burgers, hot dogs , ect) . We got sick of the buffet but the a la carts were Awesome .
Beach and pool side acti[... read more]vities were okay nothing great. But was had a nice bit of rain while we were there seemed to take awhile to get inside activities on the go , which wasn’t too bad.
Entertainment was good in the evenings different musical acts , theatre entertainment seemed mostly dancing and singing in Spanish . We’re a young couple so we missed not having a disco on the property but on Saturdays a bus came to the resort and took you to the marina bars for free.
Overall great stay

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: I liked the hotel and I am coming back
This was my first time in Cuba and I was told many scary stories about the food so I was little bit scared before my trip as I had my kids coming with me. I will talk about the food in this resort as it was my first concerm .So I enjoyed food so much,as it is all organic, that's why it goes bad very quick. You just have to watch what you eat . There were always fresh fish, chicken, beef and pork, grilled right in front of you available lunch and dinner, organic vegetables , tasty rice etc . Fo[... read more]r breakfast- fresh eggs cooked in front of you and natural yogurt omg so good. Japanese restaurant is so good ( no suchi) they cook fresh teriyaki in front of you too. Gormet is nice rest too, food was very good. Italian rest is nothing special just normal . Staff was amazing, lots of entertainment for families , rooms are clean but some things ( closet door ex ) can be broken, but not a big deal . Everything is located close, so no need to walk too much .

Iberostar Waves Paraiso Beach: Almost perfect resort
It's a beautiful resort with lots of lush tropical greenery, exotic birds, swimming pools and fountains.
All buildings in the resort are neatly incorporated in the environment, both exterior and interior design of the main lobby and restaurants are really amazing. The rooms are spacious, clean and pleasant.
The hotel staff is friendly and the service they provide is impeccable.
On the flip side, the food was not always that great, a blemish in the overall very good impression.
Also there w[... read more]as a lack of shuttle vehicles to transport you to and from the beach.

Iberostar Selection Ensenachos: Excellent second stay at Iberostar Ensenachos
We stayed at Iberostar Ensenachos for the first time from Jan 25-Feb 10/2018. Previously we’d always stayed at Melia resorts, both in Cayo Coco and Cayo Santa Maria. However, this time we made a last-minute change to our 2018 trip on a very high recommendation from a repeat Iberostar Ensenachos guest we’d met.
We tend towards smaller resorts (as in fewer rooms), and those well integrated into their natural surroundings. Iberostar Ensenachos could not have possibly suited our requiremen[... read more]ts any better. In fact, we had such a pleasant overall first experience that we could not wait another year to return, and booked a second visit from May 4-12, from which we have just returned.
Wondering whether or not our first experience was out of the ordinary, we needn’t have worried.. The return visit in May was even better than the Jan/Feb trip!!
From our initial very pleasant welcomes at reception, to checkouts, everything met and exceeded our expectations throughout both our stays. We’d sent room requests ahead of our arrivals, and all were met. Staff here are remarkable, and do an exceptional job at making you feel at home, if not like family in most cases.
The resort is an older one, done in a sort of French Colonial style. Much warmer than the newer, modern block architecture resort style becoming so prevalent now. The resort surroundings & grounds are beautifully lush and groomed. The gardeners have done brilliant work. Like most of this region, they suffered extensive damage to larger trees in hurricane Irma, which will take years to fully recover, but nonetheless Cayo Ensenachos, and the resort, have done remarkably well.
The resort is very well integrated into the natural habitat, and the Cayo is a nature preserve, so expect an abundance of wildlife. Birds, geckos & larger lizards, crabs, frogs, iguanas, the most dragonflies we’ve ever seen, butterflies, and snakes (saw three beautiful ones our first trip, though none at all on the second). So, if you’re at all offended by the presence of wildlife... might not be the best resort choice.
The resort is spread out over nearly the entirety of Cayo Ensenachos, so be prepared for a lot of walking. Those with mobility issues may want to consider a more compact resort, though porters will take you via cart anywhere you like on the resort. In our case, we love walking and taking in the beauty of the grounds, so loved this aspect of our stay.
Rooms were very good, and spacious. We stayed in three different rooms across our two visits, and all were fine. It’s an older resort, so normal wear & tear was apparent on some things, but very acceptable. Air conditioning always worked fine, and all the room equipment and fixtures worked properly.
Beaches are, in a word, stunning. Megano Beach is closest to the main section of the resort, and Ensenachos Beach is a much further distance away, though we found Ensenachos to be our favorite of the two, and spent the majority of our time there. Both beaches have snacks (Megano has an actual small restaurant, while Ensenachos is more a BBQ-style lunch), and each has a full bar.
The beaches are both gently sloped (Ensenachos more than Megano), so great for wading / swimming. Lots of shade available at both, though definitely more crowded at Megano (so get there early if you need a palapa). Some great snorkeling can be had around the rockier areas between the two beaches, as well as at the sunken barge on the sandbar off Megano. Saw a huge variety of tropical fish, conch, starfish, corals, stingray, and barracuda ranging from under a foot to a massive 4-5’ specimen one day.
The beauty of Cayo Ensenachos is that it tends to be much more sheltered than Cayo Santa Maria’s main beach, so a rough or windy beach day at Cayo Santa Maria resorts can still be a great beach day at Iberostar Ensenachos.
Pools seem beautiful, and also have bars / restaurants available, but being beach people, we only visited them twice. Snacks at both the Park/Family & Spa/Adult section were very good. Service was excellent, as always.
We only ate at one of the a la cartes during our stays (and it was excellent), since we were always content with the service, selection and quality of food at the buffet. The buffet mixes things up regularly, and there is enough selection & variety to not get bored. Chef stations are also very good, and will custom cook foods to your request.
The resort always had a large variety of seafood available. Frequently there were fresh shrimp, lobster, assorted kinds of fish including salmon & tuna, etc. Vegetarian / vegan selections are a bit more limited, but no one should have trouble finding food to meet their tastes. The pastry chefs are to be commended as well, as some of the pastries and desserts were wonderful.
Some of the pork selections are absolutely fantastic, definitely the most delicious we’ve ever had, anywhere. And, if you’re a fan of ice creams, their coconut flavour is to die for, and the dark chocolate is a close second. There is also a type of caramel / coffee ice cream that’s delicious.
As much as we loved the resort, beaches and food, the real gems of Iberostar Ensenachos are the staff. On our return visit, we were welcomed as returning guests, often even by staff we hadn’t interacted with the previous trip. Everyone we met was pleasant, friendly and professional. Though everyone was great, some in particular stood out for us however, and felt like family after such a short amount of time spent together:
Buffet: Armando & Yaima, wonderful, wonderful people. Always welcoming Marianki. The amazing & professional Carlos, always keeping us entertained & happy. The ever pleasant-spirited Daidenys. The remarkable wife & husband duo of Daily & Yuri (watching them work together in a busy buffet is like watching a dance, they’re so coordinated to their guest’s needs).
Cleaning/housekeeping: Yudi, our chambermaid did a fantastic job, and always met us with a smile and a friendly chat. Belkys, always pleasant and singing, always made time to welcome us and ask how we were.
Bars: My wife and I aren’t big drinkers, but Giselle in the lobby bar was always great. Zaidy at Ensenachos beach was a standout as well, as was Yadima there.
Ensenachos Beach: The entertainment team here does an amazing job, Yisel in particular was always fun, and great at getting people active. Yuri met us with a heartwarming smile and greeting every morning, always finding us a good spot to set up loungers, and was wonderful to sit down and chat with during quieter times (not to mention exceptionally patient with our very limited Spanish). Mario, catamaran captain; my wife cannot swim, yet Mario always made her feel very safe & welcome, especially on rougher days if we went out. He always provided excellent guidance and info during our trips with him, and was a pleasure to spend time with.
Customer Service: Geysi, the customer service manager… prompt, courteous and extremely professional.
All in all, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed our stays at this resort, and cannot wait to return again. It rapidly became a place that feels like a second home to us.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Mixed
Overall a great vacation, staff was super-the best I have encountered on a southern vacation. Facilities were clean, beach was beautiful. Overall appearance of resort is striking as long as you don't look at the little things. There were some little issues...the chairs in the theatre are super uncomfortable, our party commented we couldn't appreciate the incredible onstage skills because it was so uncomfortable in the seats. Our patio door didn't open and the shower water was cold more than w[... read more]arm, but we didn't complain...may have been fixed if we had asked. Rainy season presents some challenges with leaks in ceilings and water removal, but given the circumstances, overall staff dealt with it very well. The buffet was my least favorite thing, the layout is congested and mass confusion, the food was not appealing to me at all and was the worst buffet I have experienced at a Cuba resort. Having said that--I didn't starve and I no member of our party of 10 got sick. We all enjoyed the a la cartes. The food will prevent me from returning to this resort, but otherwise, it was a great resort and I sincerley give a full star rating to the staffing.

Hotel Mojito: Soooo nice!!!
Maybe a little old but charming. What makes the magic of the Mojito is the employees, the cleanliness, the new and large beach with more than fifty palapas and a new snack bar and bar with toilets. The bedrooms would need love but we stay most of the time outside... Actually, they are changing the mattresses and it will be perfect. The best food of all Cayo Coco, the master chef is present at every meal and makes sure everything is under control. Iberostar Origin Bella Vista Varadero: Nice Resort
Our group just returned, May 2nd. The grounds where nice and new but could have used more ground maintenance. The resort was clean, and the rooms were nice. We booked Elite swim-out rooms …. just be careful when entering your room with wet feet, tiled floors are very slippery. Room 10022 now has a broken hurricane proof glass sliding door.
We tried the general buffet one night just to compare Elite restaurant, we were disappointed and went for the 11th floor Elite experience with stunning [... read more]view and great food. Book your el-a-cartes early and make sure you eat at the Japanese restaurant.
Beach was nice, and bar was nearby. No more strews allowed at resorts … good idea. No bar blinders were disappointing, except for the 11th. floor Elite bar. The same thing goes for alcoholic drinks …. The 11th. floor bar had the upper sleeve selection and not the Cuban bands.
The Beatles bar in Varedaro was still rocking and a few great nights out.
All and all, we enjoyed our stay at this resort.

Iberostar Selection Ensenachos: Relaxing vacation
The Iberostar Ensenachos hotel in Cuba was good. I have personally experienced another resort in Cayo Coco and was pleasently surprised at how much better the food was at the Iberostar Ensenachos. They always had multiple options and they were very accomodating if you needed anything different or extra. The grounds are beautiful, everything is well maintained. The two beaches are gorgeous and there is plenty to see there in terms of wildlife such as crabs, and fish. Everything about this resort [... read more]is great other than the layout and the length but that is definitely unavoidable, we were located in the spa section in building 27 so the walk from our room to the both beaches were longer than we’d prefer and a lot of the time the carts that I think were meant to bring us around were unavailable even if you tried and looked for them at the lobby or anywhere else. Other than the walking which we personally weren’t a fan of, this resort is great and provides you with most of the tools for a relaxing vacation.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: had a wonderful time!
Daiquiri is a great resort, the entertainment staff including the dancers are all wonderful people and very welcoming. at the hotel i had to wait a few hours for towels as there was an issue with laundry. The power also went out for a day which caused some blips in my plans. all in all, I had a wonderful vacation. This was my second time at iberostar daiquiri and it was better than the first. can't wait to plan my next adventure.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Think twice if you are looking for a 4 star or better
Based decision on reviews. Resort is run down and service is hit or miss. Food was not great, cooks very accomodating, working with what they have. Some genuinely great staff, many walk around looking miserable. As a woman I found many of the male staff to be unfamiliar with respectful interaction with women, other female guests noticed this also. Weather was great. Punta cana is much better.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: I will give it no more than 3.5 stars.
Pools and beaches were great. Easy to find a lounge chair, but the pool area needs more shady covers. It seemed to be not too busy and the hotel wasn't full.
Room was spacious. Balcony was great. Our room was located in the third building from the lobby; I could walk through the other buildings to get to my room; no need to walk outside in the sun or rain. AC in the room was cold enough; but difficult to control the temperature. I don't think the thermostat was working. I had to turn on and [... read more]off the AC in the middle of the night. Soft drinks and water in the fridge supposed to be replaced every second day; but in the 7 days I stayed, they were only replaced once.
Buffet is not that great. You won't starve, but don't expect too much from it.
I only tried the Italian specialty restaurant. Not thrill about it. Probably can get the same food from the buffet; except the smoked salmon (appetizer). I gave up and cancelled the Gourmet Restaurant reservation.
Smoking was an issue. People were smoking everywhere, by the pool, in the lobby. Can't avoid it.
I will recommend this hotel only if the price is under CAN$1000. I will probably try a newer hotel next time.

Iberostar Origin Playa Pilar: Excellent family or group vacation destination
Hotel is located in an amazing large shallow lagoon that can be considered a private large swimming pool with ocean water but no waves and no rocks.options are to swim or walk or just hang atound with a drink or play with the ball. Gym classes in this marvelious secluded lagoon are amazing experience for seniors, middle aged people or youth program is made for all generations.
Staff is pretty extraordinary when compared to other exclusive resorts. Nobody is asking for tips or “ too much into[... read more] your faceâ€. Entertainers are there and in hood number but if you feel you should be left alone, it is well respected. The amazing staff in the restorants is however exceeding all expectations. The three guys grilling fish on o n order and all the staff in the restaurants are not only the best I have seen in Carenbeans but even in all Iberostar resorts. There is something in the water of that town they all come from. They all feel like family and pretty quickly one feels like their own family.
Rooms are clean and well lit unlike usual not very good lifting insides even dining room and redemption are nicely lit with new leaf lights so one has a feeling of a modern new facility.there is no luxioury, it is a small “ everything is close†type of a resort, you would not want anything else as the size matches wild rare beauty of the bay, it’s natural sand dunes and rocky parts. It is that such resort also attracts nice middle class audiance that does not need to be reminded not to litter. Everything stays clean all the time including the public bathrooms. If weather gets stormy it is a pretty dramatic skies we all watch from the lobby. Staff gets us into some sort of entertainment immediately. One takes loving memories from this amazing location and the team that hosted us. I have not used the pool but the largest group was always there and I have not heard one complaint.
We had everybody in the resort from babies and toddlers to seniors and invalids. Total healthy happy mix. I would go again and happily recommend to friends.
