Brisas Guardalavaca: Status Quo and then some!

We've been going to the Brisas for many years. More recently I read a few reviews indicating that things had gone down hill. After much deliberation we decided to book a week. The hotel is 20 plus years old and certainly it does require updating. The beds are typical "cuban fair". More recently I stayed at a 4.5 star and the beds were no better. Hard. The hotel rooms do smell musty and lingering odour of smokers from years past exist. We had an upgrade to ocean front however the nightly/daily [... read more] poolside entertainment was too much to handle and we moved to the quieter villa's. The resort is very well appointed and far more user friendly than the other hotel I referred to earlier. If you have mobility issues then the hotel is best for you. It has elevators, unlike the other hotel in Santa Maria. The villas are also showing their age but the rooms are cleaned fairly well so if you aren't upset by older amenities then you will be fine. The television channel selection is VERY minimal. The pools are clean. The bathrooms generally have soap, unlike the other hotel I was at, and the cleanliness was really exceptional. Staff are super nice and all work very hard. The buffet breakfast is very good. Lunch was hit and miss. Snack bar/ice cream/churros kiosks super! The hotel has worked very hard to increase their star rating however in all fairness I think they need to update the rooms to really deserve such. The al a carte options are very good. Ultimately I am really glad we went back. I wouldn't hesitate to go again. I think we need to remember it is Cuba and at times their standards don't match ours. If you can over look a few things you are sure to have a good time. The staff really do their best to help you out with any issue you may have. Our air conditioning didn't work in the villa and the guy never did come back to fix it but we didn't let that ruin our vacation.

As usual Brisas doesn't disappoint. Weather was spectacular. Staff wonderful I did feel they didn't have as much entertainment each nite. Food good as usual. Need new beds though or maybe we are spoiled

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: great resort

Good hotel.Clean and well maintained grounds. Room was clean, but the bathroom needs a new bathtub(in a very bad shape - stained and chipped) Housekeeper did a great job. More hangers in the closet would be helpful

Sol Turquesa Beach: Fun time!

Built on a hill, lots of stairs but didn't mind them (good exercise!). The staff are pleasant and fun, they are always smiling and ready to help you. Would highly suggest to check this resort out! We had a great time.

Playa Pesquero: Great time

Great large resort. So many choices to eat or drink. Buffet food was good with lots of choices. Cooking stations are sometimes slow so you decide if you want to wait. I like to eat like I do at home, choose a protein and then add a couple of sides, if you can stop there. A la cartes were all delicious. Got my fill of lobster. I'm an early riser so was at the beach by 7ish to get a shady spot and go for a nice beach walk before it got too hot. I'm not a pool person but the pools are huge and a bit chilly this time of year. I could easily have stayed more than 1 week.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Great beach

The beach is beautiful here with a bonus of 2 little other beaches. 1 of the little beaches has a pirate bar and trees for good shade. Enjoyed seeing local Cuban families on the main beach, especially on Sundays. The food at this resort was better than last year. Would like it if Mohitos and Margueritas and diet Sprite were available. Towels in our rooms were not big enough and would appreciate having a shower mat(small towel) every day. We were in gardenview(barracks), ground floor, near the en [... read more]tertainment stage and rectangular pool, which also puts you close to checking desk and one of the buffets so pretty convenient.However, the music is loud in that area until 11pm. Don't put anything outside your patio door to dry...we lost t -shirts, 4 bathing suits and our neighbours lost sandals and shirts. Saw some nice evening entertainment-1 was outstanding-a group of young men from Holguin City-doing break dancing-we were in awe! Everything worked in our room-hot water, toilet, sink, shower. A place for suitcases would be good. Our flight with Sunwing-pleasant staff but not easy to get to washroom-kept asking people to keep aisles clear- for selling duty free products and then for staff change in Fredericton, where there was an hour delay. We left Holguin around 2pm and got to Halifax around 10pm. We were only offered a drink once-somhow we got missed in our area when water was passed out. We should have asked but kept thinking they would eventually come to us. After going through customs on arrival and departure, no organized lineup so not a good situation with so many people.Very few staff scanning and checking carry on luggage. They scanned almost everyone on departure. Seemed to be malfunctioning equipment. Nice bus ride to and from resort...always interesting. Took a very enjoyable "train" ride from resort to a little community one morning for 10 pesos-2nd time I did it. Good chance to see the local communities and to take photos, distribute gifts if you like to...along the way. A few safety concerns at the resort-walking along towards Brisas...some of the wooden structure.. fencing...is broken down and so now is open to high drop off areas.We love this area but it needs a lot of work done. Also need some pool ladders replaced. Enjoyed the pool near the beach with swimup bar and later in the day...the big rectangular pool. We had a lovely 2 weeks overall...the weather was beautiful with that lovely breeze and gorgeous water... Our room was kept clean and tidy. This resort is good value for the cost.

Playa Pesquero: Fantastic holidays

The resort was more then expected. Clean room the staff was very curteous and with always a nice smile. So many chairs at the beach and pool and almost new. The food was soooo......good. Lots of restaurant à la carte the service was just amazing and the food was great. We finished our week at the restaurant Romantico could not have picked a better restaurant. For the size of the resort there was more then enough room for everyone without being crowded.

Playa Pesquero: amazing time

want to thank Jennifer again for an amazing vacation. all our request for our room and it's location were met. food was good beach was great weather was amazing. building 57 was perfectly located for everything. steps from pool 2 minute walk to beach. would recommend this resort to anyone.

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: Had a Blast

The hotel was very nice and clean. Food was great. Always had something special going on in the buffet. I loved the salad maker in the evenings at the buffet. She mixed all the ingredients together that you selected. The property was well maintained. We had an excellent maid named Ruby. She always had special animals made up on our bed everyday with the towels. If you gave a bit of a tip for various services you were treated like a queen. Found a grasshopper in my underwear drawer. Mad [... read more]e me jump. It was my first time there but my partner was there before so him being a repeat customer was invited to a special by invitation only dinner. It was a wonderful evening and really impressive. The beach was one of the most beautiful beaches that I have ever been on. The water was so crystal clear. There was awesome snorkeling by the coral reef to the right of the resort. Amazing fish to see. Took a horse in buggy to the Bat Cave. That was awesome. Look for Mr "A" in the yellow buggy. Big "A" on the back of his buggy. Went deep sea diving and rode scooters all over the place. Went to Banes one day which was 3 hours round trip on the scooter. I would go back again

Brisas Guardalavaca: Love the resort

Can't say enough about the resort. Unfortunately my experience wasn't what I had planned. I have been to this resort many times. I booked back in October and stated that I was a returning guest and requested 5th floor Oceanview with king bed but somehow my request never got to the hotel. So i was stuck in the 3rd floor with 2 double beds and the hotel didn't know I was a returning guest which means I did not enjoy the privlages that come with being a returning guest. Friends booked last minute.  [... read more]Their travel agent requested a 5th floor Oceanview room. Guess what, they got their request yet I did not although I had booked 5 months in advance. Terribly disappointed. I even had my daughter book her upcoming trip to this hotel thriugh trip central. Thankfully I was able to talk to the hotel during my fiasco so that she will not go through the same treatment I did. Hopefully she will get her request and be treated as the returning guest that she deserves. The hotel assured me everything will be good for her.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Such a nice resort!

As a repeat customer I can say I was very pleased with this resort! It is the people who are more important to me rather than the building or things in it.However, we did have to move once as the main building can be a bit noisy. (we moved further down the hall away from the bar) Once we were unpacked and settled we were both happy and content! There could always be room for improvment but this is Cuba! We did bring our own towels just in case ours went missing. The a la cart dinning was supurb!, and the buffets had plenty to choose from...we never went hungry..(I'm up five pounds.) Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Great service and value for money

Second time to Cuba, first time in Holguin. This was definitely superior to our first trip to Varadero in an equal start rated hotel. The hotel was better than we expected, well maintained, clean and refreshed. Evening entertainment was very good with great variety each night. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Travelling with my daughter, felt very safe and not worried about her alone at night on resort grounds. Activity staff could do a better job of involving more guests; the [... read more]y almost seem shy and only approach the same people each day. Only complaint is that there are not nearly enough lounge chairs at pools or beach for the number of guests and many guests 'reserve' with towels and leave the chairs for hours. Perhaps hotel staff could periodically do a sweep and remove belongings where it is clear nobody has been for over 2-3 hours.

Sol Turquesa Beach: Fabulous Vacation

We recently returned from a week away at memories Beach resort Holguin. It was a beautiful resort with tonnes of helpful and friendly staff! The beach was beautiful, and the pools were plentiful! Food was OK -- but typically Cuba food.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Too big!

While I did enjoy my stay here, I found it too big and our bungalows were too far away from the ocean! The food and our room were typical. The staff were friendly and helpful. On the plus side, there were 4 pools and lots of variety for dining, including at least 3 al la carte. The weather was great! If you like big resorts, then you will like it here!

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Beautiful People - Amazing Beaches

Breath taking beaches - beautiful people, rooms need a little work. At Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca in Guardalavaca Beach the water is so crystal blue you can see the bottom, the sand is white and soft on the bottoms of your feet. Spent 2weeks and had a great time.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: good value for the price

we were in a bungalow the room was clean and maid service was excellent however the bath room tub had been painted with white pain an was peeling off the tub..both main door and bathroom door were hard to close they scraped the floor and the night bolt did not lock the door. I needed a bar or miny fridge to keep my insulin cold so that it would not spoil in the heat it took 3 days and a constant promise to get a miny fridge which I had to pay for.the bathrooms in the hotel were 50/50 some we [... read more]re smelly and no way to dry your hands as the dryers did not work the other half were better condition.there was a constant smell of sewer in the main loby the food in the alacart restaurants was quite good.the buffet was well supplied most of the time.breakfast and lunch restaurants were very good.the drinks at the bars were below standard, no mohitos watery pina colada. the pool area at the bungalows was excellent and clean as well as the other pools except the pool at the villa section it was green and slimy on several ocasions

I recommend the hotel I have been there three times. It is nice to see that they are fixing up some of the areas that need to be spruced up . The hotel is a little out-of-the-way you can only get to other areas by cab pretty well but that's one of the reasons I like about it. The beach is one of the nicest beaches you'll ever go on and it has plenty of shade to get out of the hot sun . The food at the resort is really good I never had no complaints. Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: club amigo met our families needs

our family of 11 enjoyed this resort, Benny's for breakfast and the buffets at night worked out for us, always found something we liked to eat. will return to Club Amigo beaches amazing, childrens pool also very good. Cuba has the most friendly people ever.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Wonderful Resort!!!

My husband and I spent 11 days at Club Amigo in Guardalavaca, and we loved every minute of it!! All staff members were very friendly, and willing to help us if needed. The food was great, and the evening entertainment didn't disappoint. The entire resort was always clean. I would definitely stay there again! If anyone ever asks me if I know of any good resorts to stay at, I will recommend Club Amigo!! The cost for that trip was really reasonable too. This resort is very nice.Staff overall was fantastic,grounds ,common areas, rooms and restrooms very clean,rooms are dated but very clean,beach very nice,need more shade areas ,pool area fantastic,food on buffet has large variety but its Cuba and buffet ,alacart restaurants great ,entertainment was good
